Picked up a bottle of this just yesterday (New Year's present to myself). I love Laphroaig 10, and was intrigued by this more refined, subtle version. It did not disappoint. I actually get a raisin/date nut sweet note on the nose that I really like (behind the smoke and ash, of course).

So, if I am around 80 years old and I "fall" into a vat of whisky.... it was because THAT was the way I wanted to go out! My Laphroaig 10 is almost gone (thanks to drinking with you and Scott last night) so I'll probably pick up a Laphroaig Quarter Cask next.
Tried looking for it today, but got Laphroaig 10. Boy oh boy, it was quite experience for sure. I'm looking forward to try the quarter cask too. Keep up the good work! 😊
Great review! I started my Scotch journey started with Johnny Walker black to Laphroaig Q cask... And never looked back. I do wonder if you know what kind of barrels Laphroaig and other Islay distilleries used prior to having access to Bourbons barrels. The time period doesn't seem to include American distilleries open and shipping empty barrels to Islay for maturation. I could be wrong though. It would be interesting to know what the earliest Islays barrel notes were. For science.

Hyvä Markus. Waiting on a shipment from Italy ETA the 15th. Order contains QC, Ardbeg Corry and Uige and a Sm,oke head. QC was my first peat bomb and I never looked back. Last week from Italy I got the Ardbeg Ten in the container shaped like the ware house. I´m on an waitig list to get the An Oa and Laph Ten. Can´t wait for my QC to come. It´s been so long since i last had it. Funny how you have to order your booze from Italy to get it cheaper. It comes to yur door step and you can order up to six bottles for one shipment price. Now I won´t have to to Estonia to get my whisky. Islay is my heaven ans will try to go there inside two years. Markus the SavuPää, in the good way:)

If you order more than 1 bottle you have to contact the comapny in order to get the shiping cost correct. Ebay will show shipping price 18€ for all bottles individualy but when you contact Francesco at the company he will give you the right price. I payed with pay pal with no problems. So shipping for 6 bottles is arround 18€. Pretty sweet. QCask cost 35€:) I´ll see if I can find kuitti and confirm the co name. Will post it here if I do. Go to ebay and write what your looking for. I searched Ardbeg.
I find this more rounded and not as in your face as the ten. This like talisker ten is more balanced than the other expressions. I picked it up for 768 taiwan dollars.... Which is cheap compared to other high end scotches...very good value and excellent flavour. Good stuff as usual whisky dic.
Great review. I've been thinking about branching from bourbon a bit more and almost picked this up the other day. Your thought between this and standard 10 year? Worth the price difference?
I've not had Quarter Cask in a long time. Lagavulin is my favorite. I have four expressions on my shelves (8, 12, 16, and the new 9-year GoT, which I've not tried as I bought it just today). Perhaps I was immature, but Laphroaig didn't impress me. Lagavulun seemed more balanced. Maybe I'll try Quarter Cask again and my mind will change.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary But I don't consider Lagavulun expressions smoke bombs. Of the Islay style, I consider them balanced and sublime, not rough or crude.
There is a realy good one!!! But for me it has, beside all those smoky and briny, a note that people often call as "medicinal"... For me it is more like some sweet algie... I realy can't explain, but is unique and so good!!! Cheers!!!

I haven’t ventured into scotch yet, but the Quarter Cask and the 10 are a 3$ difference where I live, guess I’ll have to buy the 2 if I’m into peated/smoky scotch eventually! 🥃
I went to my local liquor store (in the US) and it's $69.99 a bottle! Given that the regular 10 years is half that, I'll stick to it for now. Maybe your reviews are driving the prices up :)

Maybe I am getting to used to bourbon , but the notes don`t sound all that tempting , of course having a taste may completely change my mind. Introducing someone to Islay whiskey with Ardbeg is cruel. Go easier if you want folks to explore. Ardbeg is great, but it’s like drinking a fireplace the first time you have it.

I misspoke when I said "Lagavulin 10 year". I meant "Laphroaig" 10 year. All that talk about Lagavulin's business practicies got my brain confused!

The quarter cask is REALLY good... I'd go for it
