He is, but he tends to “over drum” the songs. He’s not bad in this, but he just murders some of the other songs.

@@MrBostonrobb Yes he is. I am friends with a VERY respected local independent drummers in St. Louis. They're band is also in high demand and have warmed up some good national bands before. He says Todd is one of the BEST drummers he has EVER seen and studies his work online to gain knowledge 😉

I saw Styx in my HS Gymnasium (Mother Guerin) River Grove, suburb of Chicago in the mid 70s and caught a drumstick John Panozzo threw out to the audience that I treasured for many decades thereafter. ❤❤

Met a guy in the mid '70's who sat in on garage sessions when Tommy and the boys got started. He said he didn't have a clue at that time what he was witnessing.

I got hit by one of Tommy's picks at the Johnstown concert. I knew right away what it was I yelled to my daughter quick turn the light on your phone and there it was. I now have it framed

Lawrence Gowen was probably the best possible replacement for Dennis DeYoung, BUT he can't replace him. NOBODY could sing this song like Dennis live in concert. When he would say "You're Turn" and the crowd would sing "Carry On", such a powerful LIVE moment that would send chills up your spine 😉

My very first rock concert was Styx's Kilroy Was Here Tour in 1983. I was 14. My mom let me go with my friend, also 14, and his older sister who was like 23 at the time. My mom thought the sister would be responsible for us minors at the concert. So we went, and my friend's sister hooked up with her boyfriend and they had different seats, and left us on our own. It was an amazing concert. After the show, we could not find my friend's sister, and walked around the venue for about 1 hour or so, until we found my friend sister, who was quite drunk with her boyfriend, also wasted. He drove himself away, but the sister was too drunk to even get behind the wheel. My friend was a lot bigger and looked older, so he took it upon himself to drive us home. He did like 55 on the freeway LOL. Good times and memories

    • @thethirdgeneration1738
      @thethirdgeneration1738 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jlbrpt I don’t think you read a word I wrote up above at all. In addition to what I wrote already above, the guitar players are the definition of prima Donna!! Anyone who has does what they’ve done, goes beyond the term.
They highjacked the band, on tour, trashed the man, he was the founder of the band, who hired them! They got sued in court over it. Then, they’re desperation for money (which is what brought Shaw crawling back to the band; after he walked out, because he was broke!!) Then, when Dennis, falls ill, etc
Shaw goes running to Charlie Brusco, manager, concocts the story of how Dennis is unmanageable! But, when Dennis pioneered the band with 7/8 of its Top 10 hits, both music, lyrics, vocals, etc. They thought it was all fine then! What about that?
But, after those conversations Shaw had with Sammy Hagar, and Ted Nugget, the house wrecking was on! Those two are known for breaking things up!! King prima Donnas! But, Shaw got his advice and direction from them.
So, Brusco himself even published online that they made the deal, they wanted Dennis out; and steady PROFITS coming in from all those old songs that Dennis made those years Dennis pioneered.
That’s how guitarist are. By definition, they are prima donnas! Most are!
The truth is, they are all vultures in the end! The Capitalist music industry with their egos, turn them into greedy carnivores pigs.
I wouldn’t pay 10 cents, my gas, time to bother seeing the Cover Band calling itself Styx.

I recall hearing that Larry Gowan opened for Styx at a show in Montreal (probably the tour before they broke up.) Solo, just himself and his spinning keyboard. The band couldn’t believe one guy was going play in front of them and then watched this guy they had never heard of work the crowd like a master. When the rest of the band parted ways with Dennis the first guy they thought of to take his place was Gowan. I think it’s been like 25 years now.

I'm a big Gowan fan (his solo music) but anytime an iconic band (like Styx) gets a replacement singer it just has that cover band feel. Same with Journey and Foreigner. And there's some bands that have that same cover band vibe when other irreplaceable members are gone. Like KISS and The Rolling Stones.

the older of the 2 bassists is chuck panozzo. He was the original bassist who formed the band many years ago. Health issues limits his ability to tour, so ricky phillips is the regular bass player and chuck panozzo joins in when he can.

DENNIS Left STYX and went on his own. Dennis was always signed for the Annual
    "Rib America Festival" in
    ST. Louis, MO every year.
Let me describe Dennis's band selection and quality of the show. AWESOME !!
like I got in a time machine and went back in time to there peak.
The passion and quality in Dennis DeYoungs voice was almost tear Jenkins 😢 it was so perfect !
His band members where a dream team quality.
The guy who replaced Tommy Shaw was his visual and vocal twin...
But the set selection was superior...Lady, Come Sail Away, Wanted man, Babe, Grand Illusion, Mr. ROBOTO and on and on...Dennis talked about his life of sobriety, never drank or drugged. Thats why he looks so young and his voice is as strong as ever.
He stil does shows now and then just Google it you'll find one of his shows.
We where all so blessed to grow up in this time period and get to see all of these incredible bands.
    Thank you God !!!
    I loved them all.

Hey! This guy had a great seat! And I think he's a little bit like me? I worked for NBC-TV for 20 years. As an, Engineer. At this looks like another guy like me. Shooting this thing. It's not all distorted. He's shooting it horizontal widescreen. The exposure looks good. The sound ain't bad. For a camcorder recording. That's not all distorted.. This guy knew what he was doing. He's a little like me. You can see it! He's moving the camera well. He's got good shots. He's stable. He's a little like me.
I remember playing this on the radio. When it came out.. It was Great! My request lines would light up for it. As I was working for Baltimore's #1 Album Rock Station. Back in the mid-1970s. Nearly 50 years ago. Oh my God where has the time gone!?
I still feel like I'm 25! But my body is telling me, Schmuck! You are 68! Stop it! Sit down! Before you hurt yourself! Oh right? I'm 68 not 25. I forgot.
Yes this certainly takes me back to my youth. And when these guys were also in their 20s. It almost feels like yesterday! Yeah baby!
Great job on this video my friend! I know you and I came from the same place..
