I saw Styx in my HS Gymnasium (Mother Guerin) River Grove, suburb of Chicago in the mid 70s and caught a drumstick John Panozzo threw out to the audience that I treasured for many decades thereafter. ❤❤
Met a guy in the mid '70's who sat in on garage sessions when Tommy and the boys got started. He said he didn't have a clue at that time what he was witnessing.
I saw the original Styx in concert in New Jersey when I was in high school they were amazing and I think they still are one of my favorite bands to this day
I seen them twice once in Johnstown PA and once in Pittsburgh PA. Awesome group always was always will be. This bar far is my favorite song in the whole world. I got hit by one of Tommy's picks at the Johnstown concert. I knew right away what it was I yelled to my daughter quick turn the light on your phone and there it was. I now have it framed Next a set of concert used drumsticks signed by one of the best drummers in the world Todd Sucherman!!!
Lawrence Gowen was probably the best possible replacement for Dennis DeYoung, BUT he can't replace him. NOBODY could sing this song like Dennis live in concert. When he would say "You're Turn" and the crowd would sing "Carry On", such a powerful LIVE moment that would send chills up your spine 😉

This was a great show. I saw them in Laughlin in September also with REO Speedwagon. This set was longer since they were alone (and Chuck was there!). I first saw Styx in the late 70's. We've all gotten a little older, but they still rock it.

He didn't leave. They kicked him out of the band. It's ridiculous that they won't let him come back, not even for one tour. He has stated publicly that he'd like to come back, for at least a final farewell tour.
My very first rock concert was Styx's Kilroy Was Here Tour in 1983. I was 14. My mom let me go with my friend, also 14, and his older sister who was like 23 at the time. My mom thought the sister would be responsible for us minors at the concert. So we went, and my friend's sister hooked up with her boyfriend and they had different seats, and left us on our own. It was an amazing concert. After the show, we could not find my friend's sister, and walked around the venue for about 1 hour or so, until we found my friend sister, who was quite drunk with her boyfriend, also wasted. He drove himself away, but the sister was too drunk to even get behind the wheel. My friend was a lot bigger and looked older, so he took it upon himself to drive us home. He did like 55 on the freeway LOL. Good times and memories
Saw Styx in 78, 79, 81, 83, 99 and 2015. You all were my band for a lifetime, love the music, why me has been my theme song since it was released. I wish you guys could all make peace with each other. JY take care my friend.

Vegas local respect: That's Liberace's Dancing Waters Steinway Piano. It dates from about 1900 and was played in Vegas and NYC by the old Mr. Showmanship, whose estate loaned it to Gowan.

It's up to them what songs they do. Lawrence Gowan does a great job singing them. It's not like Styx was Dennis' band, it was formed by Chuck and Jon Panazzo. Dennis tried taking over the band. He also didn't want the band to continue without him. We all know how that went.

I recall hearing that Larry Gowan opened for Styx at a show in Montreal (probably the tour before they broke up.) Solo, just himself and his spinning keyboard. The band couldn’t believe one guy was going play in front of them and then watched this guy they had never heard of work the crowd like a master. When the rest of the band parted ways with Dennis the first guy they thought of to take his place was Gowan. I think it’s been like 25 years now.
I'm a big Gowan fan (his solo music) but anytime an iconic band (like Styx) gets a replacement singer it just has that cover band feel. Same with Journey and Foreigner. And there's some bands that have that same cover band vibe when other irreplaceable members are gone. Like KISS and The Rolling Stones.

the older of the 2 bassists is chuck panozzo. He was the original bassist who formed the band many years ago. Health issues limits his ability to tour, so ricky phillips is the regular bass player and chuck panozzo joins in when he can.
DENNIS Left STYX and went on his own. Dennis was always signed for the Annual "Rib America Festival" in ST. Louis, MO every year. Let me describe Dennis's band selection and quality of the show. AWESOME !! like I got in a time machine and went back in time to there peak. The passion and quality in Dennis DeYoungs voice was almost tear Jenkins 😢 it was so perfect ! His band members where a dream team quality. The guy who replaced Tommy Shaw was his visual and vocal twin... But the set selection was superior...Lady, Come Sail Away, Wanted man, Babe, Grand Illusion, Mr. ROBOTO and on and on...Dennis talked about his life of sobriety, never drank or drugged. Thats why he looks so young and his voice is as strong as ever. He stil does shows now and then just Google it you'll find one of his shows. We where all so blessed to grow up in this time period and get to see all of these incredible bands. Thank you God !!! I loved them all.

It's not all distorted. He's shooting it horizontal widescreen. The exposure looks good. The sound ain't bad. For a camcorder recording. That's not all distorted.. This guy knew what he was doing. He's a little like me. You can see it! He's moving the camera well. He's got good shots. He's stable. He's a little like me. I remember playing this on the radio. When it came out.. It was Great! My request lines would light up for it. As I was working for Baltimore's #1 Album Rock Station. Back in the mid-1970s. Nearly 50 years ago. Oh my God where has the time gone!? I still feel like I'm 25! But my body is telling me, Schmuck! You are 68! Stop it! Sit down! Before you hurt yourself! Oh right? I'm 68 not 25. I forgot. Yes this certainly takes me back to my youth. I’ve seen Gowan a couple of times on his own. He’s a fantastic performer on his own but an awesome fit for Styx. Saw them also. My absolute favourite band!

Why is there two bassists and who are they?
I had the same question
the older of the 2 bassists is chuck panozzo. He was the original bassist who formed the band many years ago. Health issues limits his ability to tour, so ricky phillips is the regular bass player and chuck panozzo joins in when he can.

"Rib America Festival" in
ST. Louis, MO every year.
Let me describe Dennis's band selection and quality of the show. AWESOME !!

The passion and quality in Dennis DeYoungs voice was almost tear Jenkins 😢 it was so perfect !
His band members where a dream team quality.
The guy who replaced Tommy Shaw was his visual and vocal twin...
But the set selection was superior...Lady, Come Sail Away, Wanted man, Babe, Grand Illusion, Mr. ROBOTO and on and on...Dennis talked about his life of sobriety, never drank or drugged. Thats why he looks so young and his voice is as strong as ever.
He stil does shows now and then just Google it you'll find one of his shows.
We where all so blessed to grow up in this time period and get to see all of these incredible bands.

Hey! This guy had a great seat! And I think he's a little bit like me? I worked for NBC-TV for 20 years. As an, Engineer. At this looks like another guy like me. Shooting this thing. It's not all distorted. He's shooting it horizontal widescreen. The exposure looks good. The sound ain't bad. For a camcorder recording. That's not all distorted.. This guy knew what he was doing. He's a little like me. You can see it! He's moving the camera well. He's got good shots. He's stable. He's a little like me.
I remember playing this on the radio. When it came out.. It was Great! My request lines would light up for it. As I was working for Baltimore's #1 Album Rock Station. Back in the mid-1970s. Nearly 50 years ago. Oh my God where has the time gone!?
