As a guy in his very early 50's, just seeing this brings back so many memories of the car audio scene back in the late 80's early to mid 90's. Sparkomatic, Kraco, Craig, Realistic, etc... All the budget stuff. And with the right stuff paired together, it would actually sound pretty decent. Ive been doing this car audio stuff entirely way to long, and I still love it.

Cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this video BigD!! I had 4 of these where I used the subs in an infinite baffle configuration, even used their little amps, and these things pounded! Drove a 79 Monte Carlo with these 4 8s banging away, eventually moved up to 2 Pyramid free-air 12s with a Pyramid 800 watt 4 channel, I was in heaven then! I still think of these setups to this day!! Thanks for the flashbacks!

I do remember seeing these all over back then! For the price it was at in the early 90s, that wouldn't have been terrible if it wasn't for the port noise.
I'm glad I managed to get my hands on a pair of non-powered 6.5" Bazooka tubes in the mid 90s which I used with a 75x2 amp in a couple different vehicles until 2000.

Thank you for this incredible video! I got two of these for £20 in the UK during the late 90s and run them in my Ford Capri. They were my first subwoofer setup. Once running through a Longmill crossover network and receiving just low frequencies they actually sounded pretty decent!
I’ve been after one for years now for nostalgic purposes but can’t find any in the UK today. They also weren’t labelled Sparkomatic over here but were in every motorfactors (auto store) in the UK during the 90s. Thank you for the serious nostalgia and hopefully I’ll get my hands on one soon.

Back in high school, early 90’s this guy was telling me about his new Bazooka 10” sub he had just put in his Toyota MR2. After school we went to his car to listen to it and I remember being highly impressed for what it was. No really low bass to speak of, but the amount of mid bass that hit you was pretty astounding. Super hard hitting sub. First time I ever experienced nose flex at the time. Not the type of bass I was into, but impressive nonetheless.
Now ask me about the guy who had two old school Savard 12”s in his Honda Accord and I will tell you that system set the standard for me back then. Those Savards were no joke.

We're spoiled today with the amount of watts that are available to us at such low prices. I love hooking up old low powered stuff to remind me how far my car audio adventure has gone, but also to show others what 10-20 watts is actually capable of. Heading to a car audio meet in a few weeks with 120 total watts. It'll be like showing up to a track day in a Miata and chasing down Corvettes!

I had two of these in my Vega rig back then. They weren't strong enough with everything else so I yanked the internal amps out, wired the coils in series, and used a properly crossed over real 100 watts per channel amp. I also had to reinforce the port end to kill that exact noise he was talking about. The speakers really were good for the money. The amp was crap and the cabinet was under engineered. I solved all that. Used them for quit a while.

I ran 2 of these in my boat back in the 90's. I had them under the swim deck, on each side of the gas tank. Because of space limitations, and the fact that I didnt care too much if they got wet, they fit the need pretty well. I also had a dual 8 Bazooka tube in my Mustang Gt, then in my S10 convertible. I still have all of these things in my capped garage, the bass cannons, bazooka, mustang and s10, but not the boat. Lol

This was my first subwoofer given to me by a friend of a friend back in the early 90s. I was only 11 years old and tinkering with electronics amplifiers and stereos dreaming of one day having a car with a bad ass stereo. This was a real time-machine video for me today, and has certainly altered my mood for the better. I hope someday to come across one of these again, and restore it to its former glory.

The amp mounting to the speaker magnet is actually smart design, they can add all the acoustic damping around the tube and the speaker should help cool the amp with it's voice coil venting on the magnet besides it pushing air all around it. I actually was thinking of these a few days ago lol, and wondered about having the speaker fire into the tube instead of out of it, then have a small compartment for the magnet and amp with a mesh back or something like that and no acoustic damping or port, just an open tube. I think there was versions like that.
Another thing I just thought of, have speakers firing into both ends of a tube, then have bass ports along the side of the tube. Or maybe 3 drivers firing towards one another in 3 tube ends, then the tubes merge and curve into another tube that acts as a port. Not quite towards one another but facing a similar direction but angled slightly towards one another in their own tube openings, where those tubes merge, I hope that makes more sense lol.

We used to pick on him and we drew "sparkomatic" logo's on his window with a window marker one time but it was all in good fun. My old fairmont had 4 MTX terminator 15s on a wall in the back on an old 800w Linear power amp. It was a great time in life for car audio people back in the day

I've always liked paper cone speakers, even some high-end ones use higher quality ones. The issue is when it's also the surround, or really cheap and deterioration prone. It's funny how it can be both one of the best and one of the worst materials for a speaker now that I think about it lol. Dali is a speaker brand that comes to mind, but they call it wood fiber.

I helped a friend install one of these in his single cab pickup in about 1998 or so years ago. I remember getting it tuned up and being disappointed at how it sounded, but it was still better than what he had. 13 watts sounds about right from what I can remember about how it sounded.

Big D this brings back high-school memories. A buddy of mine had thw same one in a Plymouth Lazer. Someone broke his hatchback glass and stole his bass tube. The 100 dollar tube cost him 400 dollars in glass.

I Asked..And you delivered, BigD! This was the one I was waiting for. I had both this one and the Radio Shack carpeted version. I still have the RS version (that has the gray carpeting) that I hope to put in the cargo area of my now outdated Suzuki SX4. I’m wondering if the guts of these tubes are the same 🤔. I’m going to have to say, no. Reason being is I’ve had this in the back of 4 cars/trucks in the time I’ve owned it (1993ish) and it’s always added serious bump and believe it would still turn heads towards the blacked out windows. The funny part is that each car I’ve put this in I’ve just added or spliced to the existing wires. Yes, even the relay wiring. My friend kept buying these and asking me to install them trying to ride the end of the “box wave” of the mid 90’s. Now you have me thinking that in the 13 years I’ve been driving stock that the caps may have dried out and you showing that it may have been the issue here is very concerning. 99 bucks was a good price for cheap bass at the time and the Sparkomatic I sold still NIB for around 75 in 97ish. Thanks for the memories and the upload!

I fixed one of these for a friend many years ago,it had some broken tinsel leads. I wasn't expecting much from it,but it was a bit better than I expected. It was good enough to add a bit of low-end in the trunk of his Caddy for several years. Not too bad for a $5 yard sale find.

We had one in the ford XR2 car back in 1992 to 1994 in the UK.
These were sold in the UK 🇬🇧 around £100 to £120 in the UK.
I got a feeling I still got the amplifier sitting in the wardrobe at home for that Sparkomatic Bass bazooka tube.
That amplifier has got two TDA7360 ICs that drives a 8in dual voice coil subwoofer.

great video Big D. I have a set Sparkomatic ASK 3000, NOS., probably from the late 80s. They are a 4" Bi Amplified set of component door speakers. Each speaker has a 45 watt ( allegedly) amp built in to each speaker. The seperate tweeter has it's ow level control.I had these when I was young. I saw them on eBay, so I bought them. If you are interested, you may have them....I actually have a couple sets, but only one set new in the box. These were sort of where it all began for me Big D. I remember these and it is possible to change the port to eliminate that i remember building our own with plastic buckets with a 12 with wood front glued and screwd in and placed wood in the back it took awhile to figure out the length and placement of the port but once we did it worked amazing noe some of the buckets we had wasn't a standard 5gal can't remember what exactly was but we even done some as a ban pass style it was cool for mid 90s for what was feasible for some broke teens with our fors cars but we did manage to come in 2nd at a comp with some crazy setup and having some big timers give us compliments on the box and setup that we did in a escort exp and 15in sub home built box and some crafty components back then was fiddling in to electronics and learn what they did swapping things in a amp and just messing around with stuff was the fun days before adult hood full took hold now we were already working full time and most my cusions and my self already were out on our own by 17 but that was how things were back then some people had grow up quicker do to some serum stances thats personal matter and that wasn't always the greatest thing but now mid 40s telling my mistakes to my kids and wasn't never one to blame but myself for poor choices just kids today take no responsibility keep up great work and have wonderful day

The loudest was 2 kicker cvr 12's with a hifonics, he was losing his hearing early 30's. The guy with the jl setup was also going deaf. It's unusual to see the sparkomatic being built halfway decent
