  • My eyes are still doing really well, more than two years after my initial PRK surgery to correct my vision. I'm happy with the results still, though I am experiencing some minor side effects I thought I would pass along.

    FAQ's:
Q: I just got PRK recently, and still can't see. How long did it take until you could see?
A: Personally, I felt my vision was completely cleared up around the 1 1/2 month mark. For the first 2 weeks following surgery, I still could hardly see, between 3-4 weeks it got mostly better, and around 6 weeks was when I felt I could see perfectly.
Q: Were you in a lot of pain following your surgery?
A: I spent maybe 2-3 days in discomfort, with my side effects including dry, irritated and burning eyes. I never was in pain per say, but felt highly annoyed at the sensations I was experiencing.
Q: How soon did you go back to work if you couldn't see anything?
A: I returned to work immediately following my post-op care, which was around 1 1/2 weeks after surgery. I could not see, which was frustrating as I work a desk job, but I was able to squint and figure it out with extra effort.

Elora thanks for this video, I had PRK about 18 days ago, Initial 3-4 days were good. Later I had this double vision and tough to see laptop and emails, I had consultation done and doc said everything seems cool and good recovery is happening. But I still have these halos during night time and difficulty seeing laptop. I have been searching all the internet to see if people with Prk done had these problems or not. With your video I am feeling little confident that I could regain my sight clearly with little more patient days. Cheers to you!

Thanks for your post EJ! It took you a month and a half?!? Damn this is supper annoying, it’s been 3 weeks and my vision is still blurry. Using the preservative free drops help a lot. I actually had Lasik done in both eyes but had to get a touchup in my left eye so I’m only partially blind in my left eye right now. Got a little stuffed up from lots of drops but thats going away lol using ice packs helped a lot with the irritation along with the moisturizing drops. My prescription before surgery was about -6 in my left eye and -5 in my right lol so it was pretty bad. My vision on day 5 is still blurry but not as bad as before surgery. Looking forward to the end results!! 😊

I had PRK at Lackland in 2016. Before the surgery my vision was 20/400 (legally blind) in both eyes. My eyes didn’t heal to 20/20. I’m about 20/25 in the left and 20/30 in the right. I generally don’t need my glasses, and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. From what I understand, the worse your vision is the harder it is for them to predict the right setting for how much to take off because everyone will be different even with the same vision.

@@meirtouson1000 I did it yeah: I’m great, can see perfectly, no issues, no glasses, no drops needed. I don’t get light sensitive or dry eyes.
Everyone’s experience is different but to me it wasn’t as bad as what some people seem to have experienced. As a whole it was easier than I anticipated but there was a period of time between days 2-5 where things were a bit trickier, but it was always manageable. There was only really 1 day which was challenging but again I didn’t find it that bad.
I think after a week you could see a screen but maybe not full time hours, might be a bit soon. Things kind of look like they’re underwater a little bit when you’re ready but goes away on it’s own organically. I took 2 weeks off but could have taken 1 realistically.

LASIK is not permanent so you have to go in after so many years to get it redone. Army(or any branch) don't wanna be paying that money 10 years after you got out.
Also, if you looked on the Tricare page then it will not say it's covered. This is because that page is primarily for dependents and not active duty service members.
Check with your optometry clinic, they know exactly what you need to do to get the ball rolling. Keep in mind that everything will still have to go through your unit as well.

But I still can like ”focus” and see noticeably better for like 1 second and then go back to like a blurry 20/20 vision. Before the surgery, I was way better than 20/20 with glasses tho. My eyes feel like there just slightly out of focus like a camera lens when the auto focus is nit working lol.
Also at night I still have bad halos and starburst. Hope that will fade away too.

@@ahmeydoo2328 I am okay. Still at 20/20, my vision stabilized a bit. But I am still nowhere near my eye sight before the surgery with glasses. In Germany, we use percentage and 100% is like 20/20; it is considered the perfect standard (everyone tries to get that). Now, I don't want to sound ungrateful. Beeing at 100% is great, I don't need glasses for anything in my daily life including working, driving, reading etc.
However, knowing in the back of my mind that beforehand I was at 70% without glasses and 130-150% with glasses and now I am at "only" 100% without glasses, it feels weird. Knowing I could potentially see better if I got new prescription glasses.

I had PRK and it destroyed my vision. It was the worse decision I ever made and it destroyed my life and has destroyed the lives of so many others. I didn’t develop any vision issues until about a year after the surgery. You may be fine now but you can develop vision issues and/or severe eye pain years after the surgery. You are also more prone to all sorts of things like corneal ectasia, detached retinas, early onset cataracts, etc. Even if you don’t develop noticeable symptoms, your eyes are still damaged structurally. The cornea was never meant to be cut open. I wish every single day I could go back and not have it and be able to have perfect vison with glasses and soft contact lenses again. Unfortunately, I can’t go back in time but at least I can warn others about how dangerous these procedures are so maybe they won’t have to suffer like me. Please do not promote these horribly dangerous and completey unecessary procedures. All you’re doing is potentially hurting others by encouraging them to go through with it.

    • @shmit14
      @shmit14 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

They don’t cut your cornea open with PRK. They do that with lasik. With PRK they remove the top layer of cells with alcohol and that’s what needs to heal. No incisions at all.
