Hi Lucy Bella Earl. I am a guy from India. I have been seeing your channel since January 16. After seeing your channel my English ameliorated by leaps and bounds. Thanks a lot Lucy Bella Earl. That’s not true! The risks of lasik are way higher than the risk of ibuprofen! They’re not even comparable! 1. The LASIK flap never heals. Weak scar tissue around the flap edge holds it in place -- like a Tupperware lid. But the flap itself is not attached and can be accidentally dislodged for life. Moreover, the LASIK flap creates a permanent portal in the cornea, which exposes patients to increased risk of late onset corneal inflammation or infection. 2. The cornea is permanently thinner and weaker after LASIK. Corneal biomechanical failure (ectasia) may occur shortly after LASIK or many years -- even decades -- later. Young women of child-bearing age are at increased risk during pregnancy after LASIK. 3. Researchers have found that LASIK patients may need cataract surgery up to 15 years sooner than people who avoid LASIK. To add insult to injury, the LASIK-altered cornea causes problems with cataract surgery. 4. Osman et al. (2017) found that LASIK using the latest blade-free technology leads to posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) (floaters) in 85% of eyes that did not have pre-existing PVD. 5. LASIK leads to falsely low intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement, exposing patients to permanent vision loss from undiagnosed glaucoma. 6. Corneal nerves responsible for tear production are severed and destroyed during LASIK. No study at any time point has found that corneal nerves fully recover to normal densities and patterns after LASIK. Damaged nerves may lead to chronic dry eyes. 7. Injury to corneal nerves during LASIK may lead to incapacitating neuropathic eye pain. 8. Since LASIK does not eliminate the need for reading glasses after the age of 40 and studies show that visual outcomes of LASIK decline over time, virtually all LASIK patients will end up back in glasses - sometimes sooner rather than later. 9. The FDA's latest LASIK study found that up to 46% of subjects who reported seeing no visual distortions (halos, starbursts, glare, and ghosting) before LASIK reported visual distortions after LASIK, and up to 28% of subjects with no symptoms of dry eyes before LASIK developed dry eye symptoms after LASIK. 10. LASIK complications have led to corneal transplants, blindness, loss of eye, disability, unremitting eye pain, suicidal thoughts, and a number of actual suicides.

I went through the same procedure and now I can see clearly 😊😊😊 firstly, it was a shock for me to see how dirty the streets were ahahahah I remember I couldn't do any sports for about 1 month. I couldnt wear my make up for a month either. But it's totally worth it.
The kind of surgery that really scares me but still I've managed to watch the video from start to end without looking away) Made me think about the laser.
Hi Lucy I hope your visions keeps getting better. I had lasik eye surgery in 2008 at age 31 and it was good it does change your life with me i played a lot of sport so not wearing glasses was great. Although I had to have my right eye done again about 9 years later so I can see good long distance with both eyes but my short vision now is not so good, but as you age your visions slowly deteriorates :( but you are young so do not worry.
Well, I don’t know what to say☺️ I am short-sighted, so I’m made to wear glasses Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to follow Lucy’s example of courage Cheers, I feel so happy for Lucy’s life. So nice to see she never ceases to find her happiness
Hi Lucy , I did the same surgery ( I also had longsightedness), and I agree with you , it one the best thing that I have made in my life :) that changed my life !
Wooooow, the possibility of todays medicine are just amazing! I am happy for You Lucy, thanks for sharing your expierience - it was such an interesting video
I had laser eye surgery 22 years ago when i was 25 in China. In the first month after the sergury, my vision was 1.5. After 3 months, it dropped to 1.2. Now, i tested today, it is still 1.2 although i play smartphone all the time. The total surgery cost was RMB 15000 about us$1700 at exchange rate of 1998. The surgery took only few minutes, and no pain at all.
i'm having the same problem with my vision and i've had this since i was in the primary school, that was -2,5 at first and it's getting worse untill the last time i got my eyes checked i had -5,5, (that's more than a year ago). And this time since everything is done online, i have to spend more time starring at my laptop like attending lectures, doing assignment etc, which cause even worse vision to my eyes. I actually have been thinking about getting eyes surgery but kinda scared at the same time so many thanks to you Lucy for sharing your great experience!
If you are considering laser eye surgery, please, please think very carefully. The fact is laser eye surgery is extremely dangerous. I've had it done myself and it has ruined my life. Years on, my vision is the worst it has ever been and I am still in pain. In fact, most people who have told me they have had it done, have also had some kinds of problems, many of them serious and life-changing. Research seems to bear this out, suggesting that problems are the norm, rather than the exception. Companies providing such surgery have little or no scruples, withhold information about the dangers and pay their staff commissions. Surgeons who carry out the procedures should also not be trusted. The fact that they act in contravention of guidelines laid down by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists should tell you enough. If you are still tempted, make sure you seek advice from an independent optometrist or ophthalmologist who has nothing to gain from you having surgery. The industry is unregulated and that is a serious problem.
That means have you been having this eye issue for a decade? Thank God nothing happened to you amidst this COVID 19 global pandemic. How did you bear this for such a long duration? Your husband helping you during your convalescence also really motivated your speedy recuperation. Both Lucy and Will are mutually fortunate to have each other. Both of you are an incredible pair.
I have had an Astigmatism for years and before this video was posted I didn’t know what the word astigmatism meant I’m a native English speaker who sometimes can’t always get what people say because of my learning difficulties So thank you for sharing your story Lucy It was very informative and helped me understand and learn about astigmatism in a more simpler way .
Oh my god!!!! Surgery? Okay but I'm very happy to see all your videos You are my favourite English teacher! I trust on your way of teaching infact I practice English everyday As according to your suggestions till now and seriously!!!! It is very productive for me. Now, feel so happy❤️
Hello Teacher Lucy Bella Earl. This upload is truly something very helpful. Good awareness upload. I never realised you had this problem. Any issue related to health is really scary. Issues related to eye is really scary. When you mentioned about astigmatism it gave me a vicarious feeling. I must say I feel frightened to hear that. And you managed to get over such an ordeal is really heartening. Thanks for sharing this Teacher Lucy Bella Earl. Any issue related to health scares me. It motivates me and many to consult about health issues. I have been seeing many of your lessons during this ongoong COVID 19 Pandemic and it has been really helpful. Your lessons makes me happy amid this dark period. Thanks a lot Teacher Lucy Bella Earl.
I had cataract Extraction artificial lens implant surgery in 1993 in Philadelphia PA USA. My surgeon was Myron Yanoff. Eye surgery is amazing! Such a blessing! Now please wear those sunglasses and protect your eyes!
You're very brave! I'm also thinking about the operation but it's scaring. And you were absolutely right speaking about miths around the eyes operations!
I'm very happy to see you again.😍😍😍.. Love from Pakistan. I really like you. Youvy changed me in different ways.. And this is positive change. And credit goes to you🥰❤️
I have used glasses for about 14 years since I was 8 and I really want to have laser surgergy. I went to hospital last year to check and have test for eyes but doctors said I couldn't take the surgergy because my eyes are too weak and dry and couldn't stand the surgergy. I am happy that you had successful surgergy and get your eyes better ❤
Thank you Lucy. This video is not only interesting but also useful. I learned so many words and expressions and I deeply appreciated the scientific subject you brought up. Honestly, you should do more videos like this! Hugs from Italy
God heavens, i do also have an eyesight issue, planning a surgery for the next year because doctors say it is possible after one gets 18 years old. If u are confirming it is reliable, i am ready to undergo it anytime now. Thank you for sharing personal experience, dear Lucy.🤗
Wow - I'd never really considered eye surgery before - but also can't wear contacts ( nausea & headaches) and specs always seem to slide off my nose or hurt my ears, even after they've been fitted. How soothing is Prof Reinstein's voice - I bet you felt very safe under his care. Food for thought Lucy - thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing Lucy. I've always been interested to hear someone's experience getting laser eye surgery and your video provided lots of information that is new to me. Thanks for putting this video together!
Dear Lucy, I have just discovered your videos and they are fantastic! When I watch I feel this bright atmosphere. Love your couple, pets and surroundings. Please, please upload more videos. I doesn't matter what. Even watching your dog is so interesting ;)) Thank you for all! :) Greetings from Lithuania ;)
I had my lenses exchanged to multifocus lenses two and a half years ago. No more contact lenses, no reading glasses. Perfect vision at any distances. This at the age of 60.
@@manuellayburr382 I went to the eye clinic in Essen, Germany, since it was in my vicinity at the time. I had the surgery done without the indication of cataract. The surgery itself took only a couple of minutes per eye. The right one was done on Monday, the left one on Wednesday. Some check up visits, and everything was done. No complications.
Oh that’s why!!!😀 I was waiting for your new videos or new lessons a lit bit long! Finally and I’m so glad for your eyes getting better🙏🏻👍🏻 thank you Lucy! God bless you always
OMG Lucy... I feel like I have been waiting for this video my all life and I feel like I am now finally ready for my laser treatment. I have almost identical problems with my vision, and even though I don't mind wearing glasses (I've been wearing them since I was 16, so basically for the last 17 years of my life), I would love to go out one day without having them on. Thank you for sharing this incredibly useful content. I have done so mush research about laser surgery, but this video contains absolutely all information I needed. Best wishes to you!

@@vicrichards6380 Thank you for your comment, it means a lot! x - I will definitely reconsider all of the aspects. I can still manage with the glasses, therefore before I make any life-changing decision I will make sure that the risk of the surgery is as low as possible.

Hello, Lucy! You filmed that right on time. I am about to fix my eyes as well, I have - 3.5. It’s a nightmare to wear contact lenses, and I can’t stand glasses. The thing is a lot of people around me are trying to deter me due to the possible side effects. I'm totally pround of you! I reckon that i will have the same surgery in the future (when i will earn money by my own and will be able to do it) Good luck!
Well hello! Fellow dry-eyed, contacts-user, gal here, I feel your pain! Also, thank you for this video, I have never taken into consideration having laser surgery but I'm definitely doing some research from now on :)
Laser eye surgery is fantastic! I had a myopia and had been wearing contact lenses for 6 years, than specs for 4 years. After having a surgery my life changed drastically 🙌 every day when I open my eyes, first I say thanks to God for another day and then remember my doctor who helped me to have perfect vision 🤗❤
I'm also a quite near sighted young boy who struggling with this issue in his early 20's. The age when I meant to be enjoying cricket :P. And I'm going for ICL surgery. This video motivated me so much and declined all my fear. Thanks ever so much Lucy... :)
Thank you for making this video. I recently stopped a prescription med due to losing partial vision in one eye (the other eye started to go too). It turns out the med worsened an existing astigmatism so I’m happy to know that laser eye surgery is an option were my vision to worsen.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Astigmatism as I had previously struggled with blurry vision for years and that’s when I was prescribed to wear glasses. Sadly, I don’t wear them anymore since I am always forgetting to do so and it seems that my vision has gotten worse so I started wearing them again. I can totally relate to you, Lucy.
Sorry to hear that Rosti. As I said in the video, I hated wearing glasses! One thing I especially hated was the little red marks they left on my nose :'D

I have had an Astigmatism for years and before this video was posted I didn’t know what the word astigmatism meant
I’m a native English speaker who sometimes can’t always get what people say because of my learning difficulties
So thank you for sharing your story Lucy
It was very informative and helped me understand and learn about astigmatism in a more simpler way .
Lucy congratulations for 5 million subscribers in your first channel English with Lucy .
I agree, Best decision ever! I had laser eye surgery 10 years ago and it had completely changed my life for better :)

You should record audible books! It’s so hard to find readers with your young British accent.
Yea I agree with you
Could you explain what are you trying to say, please?
I've been waiting so much for your new vlog! It brings me so much joy 💘😍
These days I become late at Lucy's school but she's my fav teacher
Happy it's worked out for you. Best of luck to you Lucy! 👍🏻😊
Dear lucy...best of luck to you!!! Leo.
Miss you Lucy, can’t wait to see you in your new vlog :)
The halos and starbursts are my main reason for wanting surgery. Thank you for the honesty. This may just be what I deal with in my life.
I have my first appointment with london vision clinic on Friday! So excited!
You're very brave! I'm also thinking about the operation but it's scaring. And you were absolutely right speaking about miths around the eyes operations!
She got lucky. Getting this procedure is like playing Russian roulette with your eyes/sanity.
Exercise can help....
I'm older than you. I've already had cataract surgery but with fixed lenses. Where did you go for multifocus? What was the procedure like?
@@manuellayburr382 I went to the eye clinic in Essen, Germany, since it was in my vicinity at the time. I had the surgery done without the indication of cataract. The surgery itself took only a couple of minutes per eye. The right one was done on Monday, the left one on Wednesday. Some check up visits, and everything was done. No complications.
@@HolgerJakobs Thanks - I'll investigate further.
Oh that’s why!!!😀 I was waiting for your new videos or new lessons a lit bit long! Finally and I’m so glad for your eyes getting better🙏🏻👍🏻 thank you Lucy! God bless you always
I'm so happy for you Lucy. Take care of yourself
Congratulation Lucy, you are such a great person indeed. I wish you the best of the best in your career and your personal life.
thank you for sharing your experience, I'm so happy for you! 🥺☺️ I wear contacts so I can only imagine how life changing this was

@@vicrichards6380 sorry to hear this, but what was your eye power before surgery and how worse it gets after surgery?

I've got an appointment for November 4th. Aaaand here is the video. Still scared, but it really helps to calm down while waiting.
Hello, Lucy! You filmed that right on time. I am about to fix my eyes as well, I have - 3.5. It’s a nightmare to wear contact lenses, and I can’t stand glasses. The thing is a lot of people around me are trying to deter me due to the possible side effects. After your video I am full of confidence and very decisive to change my life and make the dream to relish our beautiful world come true. Greetings from Poland ;)

I've been struggling with my vision for 2 years (it began when i was 15 years old) Unfortunately, my eyesight has deteriorated this year because of my preparations for exams. I'm totally pround of you! I reckon that i will have the same surgery in the future (when i will earn money by my own and will be able to do it) Good luck!

Lucy missing you and your vlogs so much...! Please upload vlogs missing Diego and Alfonso too! 😔
What's myopia?
What was your eye power before surgery?

Ooh!! How much pain did you feel! I'm sorry for you.
My eyes were numbed - there was NO pain. Just slight discomfort as it was strange to not feel my eyelids!
oh and I did feel pressure!
Hope everything is fine with you now. A good health is always the wealth that we gain in our lives
Omg the voice of the doctor 💘
I'm also a quite near sighted young boy who struggling with this issue in his early 20's. The age when I meant to be enjoying cricket :P. And I'm going for ICL surgery. This video motivated me so much and declined all my fear. Thanks ever so much Lucy... :)
How did your surgery go? Any updates?
Thank you for making this video. I recently stopped a prescription med due to losing partial vision in one eye (the other eye started to go too). It turns out the med worsened an existing astigmatism so I’m happy to know that laser eye surgery is an option were my vision to worsen.

Happy New year! I wish you a happy and healthy year, to you and your close ones! Hope to see you soon in your vlogs! 🙂 I really miss them! ☺️
@@lucy Oh, God, the red marks :D that was certainly the most annoying thing!
@@lucy hi, how much it costs this surgery? Thanks
