One of the things I love about For Answer is how it deals with hard mode missions. It doesn't make the enemies tougher or make you take more damage, but instead causes some kind of unforseen complication to happen. For example, in the destroy Giga Base mission, the VOB malfunctions partway through and you have to go the rest of the way by your NEXT's standard boosters. It's a really good way of handling that sort of thing.
Cuz the 4th series is made by Miyazaki. To be fair, AC titles have been known for its logical approach. No rubber banding like you see in sports or racing games. No bullet sponge bosses in higher difficulty or any difficulty setting at all. Its all about whether or not you understand how to play the game. The git gud thing.

Fromsoft is my favorite dev because of the Soulsborn games, and I've never played an Armored Core game, but the new Armored Core 6 reveal has me BINGING content from these games, and FA and 5 both look SO FUCKING SICK I cannot wait to play 6.

The Moonlight blade in AC:FA is the best thing ever. I run a max mobility mech with 2 of those bad boys and boosters all over. Noone can withstand that kind of punishment.
MrHuopatossu I use what's fun. I also have a really Weird high mobility but super heavy weapon build that I use for long missions. I use the double blades when I feel like messing around.
You CAN do a 180 degree turn by holding (only) the right analog stick either left or right, and then activating your quick boost function (whatever key you have it mapped to). Idk why this information isn't provided in the tutorial, but 180 degree turns are quite possible.
Kuch _ The degree of the turn angle varies based on your legs turn ability and your side boosters quick boost stat. You can have as low as 90 or high as 270, even.
If you boost forward then let go of move stick and boost you can do a more potent quick turn while moving forward. Its pretty godlike once you get it down. Nothing gets behind you anymore.
I actually hate it. I qb like a maniac and occasionally I will have my stick at neutral on accident and all of a sudden Otsdarva is to my back, shooting me in the ass while I have a staring contest with a building.
dragonbrad98 I never played it online, but I put about 100 plus hours into it. A wonderful mech game. Fast combat, TONS of weapons and parts. It's only as deep in the customization as you want it :) It's a lot of fun making a team of mechs, all with different strengths and abilities for the 40 or so missions, and the missions change slightly depending on the difficulty! (Mostly a sudden reinforcement or rival pilot(s) entering the scene at the end) It's better in a MASSIVE amount of ways, I think, than AC5(too slow, online required, smaller scale all round). If you can get it for a good price, I highly recommend it, for whatever that's worth :p
dragonbrad98 I've S ranked all missions on both difficulties, so I'll tell you if you that AC:FA is a very strong single player experience as far as the more recent entries in the series go. It's got multiple endings, branching mission paths and lots of parts to unlock by completing missions on harder difficulties. People who want mecha porn, really fast mech games, or stat management would be right at home with it. For instance, if Woolie or Pat pressed triangle/Y when they were browsing parts they would get full pages of stats and graphs instead of the just the major 3-4 stats they were looking at. Difficulty can be off the walls too, there is an ending which pits you against 5 top tier pilots from all factions in the game (6 on hard), and I'll readily admit I had to cheese the AI to S rank that. I'd recommend getting it and AC4, and playing AC4 first if you're interested in the series though. AC4 is harder to go back to because everything was improved upon in For Answer from the parts list down to the menus.

+FreelancerRaiko1 AC VD was a greatly improved version of V. It was the balance between 4A and classic AC. 4A is good, but the only viable builds are constant flying builds. It was way too different from previous Armored Core games and alienated a lot of people. Classic Armored Core was slower yet more fun imo since I'm piloting a slow machine instead of a Gundam like AC4A. And FROMSOFT has stated that they'll make a new Armored Core if there's enough demand.
+FreelancerRaiko1 its all on the player's abulity to counter balance. In VD, if your going for a heavy build it might be a good idea to have tanks threads anyway since they let you use heavy weapons without deploying them (basically means you wont be immobile while shooting them)
You guys should probably check out AC5/Verdict Day as well. The amount of stats and how important they are is insane. I bought it because of this video and it's literally one of my favorite games now.

4/Answer's gameplay was the first time Armored Core didn't full-on suck in that regard, and it's one of those areas where the purists should actively be ignored if Armored Core comes back, because simply put, listening to the people who whined about 4/Answer is going to throw the series, and From Software, right back into unknown obscurity, and if that happens, Armored Core is dead for good; From Software is now regarded as a top developer, making a lot of money, and they can't afford their old reputation, even if they gained their new reputation doing the same thing they'd always done to that point. Armored Core needs to advance, not look back, to enjoy similar success, because it won't have the same hook Souls accidentally developed. It needs to have exciting, strategic combat to entice people into its god-damn-better-be improved customization. Bringing back some form of V's squad-based multiplayer will probably also be popular now that people will be inclined to know it existed.
Well, it did. No quick strafe, no quick turn -- literally no quick movement options at all, actually -- and awful energy management, resulting in extremely slow movement speed unless you boost-hopped everywhere like a dumbass. The only way to evade enemy fire was to randomly change your movement at huge distances to throw off the opponent's auto-lock, because you moved so slowly that actively dodging most projectiles was _literally impossible_. Which isn't to say 4/Answer didn't fuck some things up of its own, like the fact that that a good 70% of the weapons are _still_ fucking useless, but if you honestly think a game in which circling the opponent while jumping repeatedly was the top strategy resulted in a good game, you're objectively, provably wrong. Fortunately, you're probably just speaking with nostalgia bias, rather than suffering from a _hemorrhaging brain injury_.
After having played through all of the Armored Core games, I don't think that any of them are bad. In fact, most of them are very similar in quality. To me, and many others, 4 and 4A stand out in quality, but as far as 5 and VD goes... I just think that people hate on them because they're different. Not everyone does that, mind you, but only the ones who refuse to admit that they can be good games. So again, no AC game is bad.
I'm expected quite a few needless references..... a couple...... at least one..... maybe they'll say the word "needless"..... i at least hope the word crosses their minds..... one of their minds at least.....

Also, the thing with most of those "dogshit" arms/parts. Is that if you press triangle to access detailed information. You will find that they are most useful than you may think.
Depending on your quick boost (3rd)stage consistency and quickboost power you can turn around faster. Quickturning is letting go of all other inputs except for turning and then quickboosting, rotating either direction. Stabilizing in a specific direction can help as well.
I really like the world of Armored Core, or at least the concept of the world being fucked up with Super Corporations and Countries fighting against one another, but there's also PMC running around, where you're competing to see who is the best soldier by killing each other and doing high-class missions.
***** My thought is nothing past the PS2 era exists, fuck that shit. I wasn't a fan of most of the expansions (because ill admit, i wasn't good enough to beat them in most cases, they just dialed up the difficulty too much to the core games) for the PS2 games, but loved the main series enough that i couldn't wait for MoA after having played PP, to the point i modded my PS1 and imported it... then absolutely struggled my way through finally 100%ing it through pure trial and error in most missions since it was a 50/50 chance whether the mech they showed you in the briefings were what you were supposed to kill, protect, or outright avoid. Starting from scratch since i couldnt carry over my saves hurt too, i was really Plus dependent in my builds.
Silent line was pretty good and this AC was probably my favorite out of all of them. The current AC5 series is okay but I hate how much slower it is compared to pervious games.
The Full Metal Panic music hit me hard. Armored Core did remind me more of FMP than any other mecha show. Except I think it does remind me of something else but I can’t remember it.
@@omega73115 Which ones? Emulation is the answer for most of them. I know all of them up to the PS3/360 era can be emulated quite well and easily if you have a PC made in the last five years or so. The PS2 and PSP games have a godawful blurring effect built into them that I've never managed to fully remove, however.

super late to this party but for skating mechs, check out the anime series Armored Trooper Votoms (I know gundam inspires this series of games alot but ATV FOR SURE had a huge role in these guys minds, powerful but paper thin mechs, nothing so overpowered it can't be taken out with a slightly better loadout than your opponent, heck even the overboost has a weird similarity to the AT units revving sound.) and for some more fancy stuff, Panzer World Galient. Heard the comment on skating mechs and had to put in my two cents.
I ended up returning here because YT recommended this again by chance due to my desire for more Armored Core since the AC6 announcement. Always loved AC4:FA and hope AC6 is the beginning of a new era for AC. I just hope the boys are willing to re-enter the fray of mecha on their respective channels.
so I just started watching the video, and I love that its saying these robots are taller than what is currently the tallest building in the world which is the 830 meter tall Burj Khalifa. Can't wait to see these robots fighting in New York with buildings taller than them because I fucking doubt they actually paid any attention to just how big 1000 meters is.

I think one of the first instances of a "skating" or "hovering" mech? the Doms from mobile suit gundam. They had big ol' hover feet. It's why they were so terrifying in any land engagement. They were fast as hell, and they were heavier than zakus so they could take more punishment.
Armored Core 2 is one of my Playstation 2 nostalgia games of choice, I remember trying so hard to get the parts to replicate the front cover Core. Local multiplayer was super fun too, well for early 2000s.

A lot of Armored Core games were letdowns for me though I loved the original trilogy on PS1. I didn't care for 4 which was frustrating and kind of boring and 5 didn't have a big enough online community for it to be a half-online game. I passed on this game entirely until another mecha loving friend convinced me to get it and holy shit this game is rad. My favorite Armored Core and one of my top 10 mech games. I hope From Software sits down and makes another really amazing Armored Core game sometime.
I got AC4A and Front Mission: Evolved as christmas gifts one year and I played Front Mission first and I felt I had caught a glimpse of mecha hell itself. Then, I played AC4A and I felt I was delivered straight into mech heaven where I spent countless hours on this game customizing and having fun fighting the Arms Forts and other ACs. If I was charged with making my personal ultimate game it would be AC:4A with a huge open world, randomized instances with the Arms forts and enemy ACs, and more city environments. Also, fun fact: The pile bunker Pat uses is referred to by some of the online AC blade players as a 'donkey punch'
Oh man, the cut scenes are fucking amazing. I remember watching the Armored Core V intro cut scene and it looked so fucking real in certain scenes. I thought I was watching a movie for a second. The soundtracks are also godlike.

the scale of velocity on this mecha is BS! 0 to 1350km/h in a second? this wold be like a jet taking off at mach5, the acelleration wold kill any pilot and destroy the entire craft unless it is made of adamantim and the pilot is wolverine, than it is totally legit. Robin apparently it is explained in the lore that the pilots of the nexts don't sit in a traditional cockpit. that it is full of goo or something to allow the pilot to survive the maneuvers. can't remember the explanation for the armor though.
NEXTs use a Allegorical Manipulation System , which allows rapid reaction times which also doubles as their life support system and how they can survive the G-forces pilots experience when controlling one. Also, only certain people can pilot the NEXT, depending on a psychic trait.

You have to play Omega Boost for the PS1 for the Mechaweek. This game is such an underrated gem. I remember playing the shit out of it when I was a little me.
I went as far as to make custom decals from little warning messages, to stripes and patterns (as well as "shiny black" by taking a logo with black on it, and making the front of your AC small until the black covers it all. It looked a lot cooler than just changing the regular color and had this sheen to it.). Got the balance of the stabilizers just right, made mid to light weights of various weapon layouts that could near infinite boost (unless you went tank, then you just commit to that.) This was the last AC game I went really all out on. I tried with AC5 but I just couldn't get as into it. Also speaking of the Moonlight sword, I wonder if Bloodborne's going to have some sort of equivalent.
Man, this game was like the Gundam SEED of the Armored Core series, imo. Still glad to see the Best Friends doing something Armored Core related. My personal favorites were the third Generation (3 to Last Raven)
I only ever played the AC1 series, but I was a nut for it. I only ever used the Moonlight Blade, no guns. No rockets. I had a super fast AC with radar jammers, and in the arena, PVP or v the computer it was all you ever needed. My slowest fight was only ever about 30-45 seconds. I'd figured out a one-hit kill that drove my friends insane, no matter the armor they used. You had to boost forward, then just slightly jump and trigger the blade so that it hit at a downward angle; dead.

dragonbrad98 I never played it online, but I put about 100 plus hours into it. A wonderful mech game. Fast combat, TONS of weapons and parts. It's only as deep in the customization as you want it :)
It's a lot of fun making a team of mechs, all with different strengths and abilities for the 40 or so missions, and the missions change slightly depending on the difficulty! (Mostly a sudden reinforcement or rival pilot(s) entering the scene at the end)
It's better in a MASSIVE amount of ways, I think, than AC5(too slow, online required, smaller scale all round). If you can get it for a good price, I highly recommend it, for whatever that's worth :p
dragonbrad98 I've S ranked all missions on both difficulties, so I'll tell you if you that AC:FA is a very strong single player experience as far as the more recent entries in the series go. It's got multiple endings, branching mission paths and lots of parts to unlock by completing missions on harder difficulties. People who want mecha porn, really fast mech games, or stat management would be right at home with it. For instance, if Woolie or Pat pressed triangle/Y when they were browsing parts they would get full pages of stats and graphs instead of the just the major 3-4 stats they were looking at.
Difficulty can be off the walls too, there is an ending which pits you against 5 top tier pilots from all factions in the game (6 on hard), and I'll readily admit I had to cheese the AI to S rank that. I'd recommend getting it and AC4, and playing AC4 first if you're interested in the series though. AC4 is harder to go back to because everything was improved upon in For Answer from the parts list down to the menus.
We need Fromsoft to work on a new Armored Core game after they finish up Bloodborne.

+FreelancerRaiko1 AC VD was a greatly improved version of V. It was the balance between 4A and classic AC.
4A is good, but the only viable builds are constant flying builds. It was way too different from previous Armored Core games and alienated a lot of people. Classic Armored Core was slower yet more fun imo since I'm piloting a slow machine instead of a Gundam like AC4A.
And FROMSOFT has stated that they'll make a new Armored Core if there's enough demand.
+FreelancerRaiko1 its all on the player's abulity to counter balance. In VD, if your going for a heavy build it might be a good idea to have tanks threads anyway since they let you use heavy weapons without deploying them (basically means you wont be immobile while shooting them)

Tip 2, if it's over twice your size, when in doubt, use a laser sword. That shit kills them. Tip 3, Odstarva is an asshole. Reiterpalasch best bro-who-is-also-a-gal.

Im sorry but mech designs aside the slower combat just felt underwater and slower.
The only good thing about V-Day was the Online stuff.
4/Answer's gameplay was the first time Armored Core didn't full-on suck in that regard, and it's one of those areas where the purists should actively be ignored if Armored Core comes back, because simply put, listening to the people who whined about 4/Answer is going to throw the series, and From Software, right back into unknown obscurity, and if that happens, Armored Core is dead for good; From Software is now regarded as a top developer, making a lot of money, and they can't afford their old reputation, even if they gained their new reputation doing the same thing they'd always done to that point.
Armored Core needs to advance, not look back, to enjoy similar success, because it won't have the same hook Souls accidentally developed. It needs to have exciting, strategic combat to entice people into its god-damn-better-be improved customization. Bringing back some form of V's squad-based multiplayer will probably also be popular now that people will be inclined to know it existed.
The gameplay in Armored Core before 4 and 4A sucked? lol, yeah okay, mate.
Well, it did. No quick strafe, no quick turn -- literally no quick movement options at all, actually -- and awful energy management, resulting in extremely slow movement speed unless you boost-hopped everywhere like a dumbass. The only way to evade enemy fire was to randomly change your movement at huge distances to throw off the opponent's auto-lock, because you moved so slowly that actively dodging most projectiles was _literally impossible_.
Which isn't to say 4/Answer didn't fuck some things up of its own, like the fact that that a good 70% of the weapons are _still_ fucking useless, but if you honestly think a game in which circling the opponent while jumping repeatedly was the top strategy resulted in a good game, you're objectively, provably wrong.
Fortunately, you're probably just speaking with nostalgia bias, rather than suffering from a _hemorrhaging brain injury_.
After having played through all of the Armored Core games, I don't think that any of them are bad. In fact, most of them are very similar in quality. To me, and many others, 4 and 4A stand out in quality, but as far as 5 and VD goes... I just think that people hate on them because they're different. Not everyone does that, mind you, but only the ones who refuse to admit that they can be good games. So again, no AC game is bad.
Please let mechaweek end with a let's watch of Gurren Lagann.

Depending on your quick boost (3rd)stage consistency and quickboost power you can turn around faster. Quickturning is letting go of all other inputs except for turning and then quickboosting, rotating either direction. Stabilizing in a specific direction can help as well.
Whatever the last game is for Mecha Week is I hope they use Libera Me From Hell for the intro. I think that'd be sick.

I really like the world of Armored Core, or at least the concept of the world being fucked up with Super Corporations and Countries fighting against one another, but there's also PMC running around, where you're competing to see who is the best soldier by killing each other and doing high-class missions.

***** My thought is nothing past the PS2 era exists, fuck that shit. I wasn't a fan of most of the expansions (because ill admit, i wasn't good enough to beat them in most cases, they just dialed up the difficulty too much to the core games) for the PS2 games, but loved the main series enough that i couldn't wait for MoA after having played PP, to the point i modded my PS1 and imported it... then absolutely struggled my way through finally 100%ing it through pure trial and error in most missions since it was a 50/50 chance whether the mech they showed you in the briefings were what you were supposed to kill, protect, or outright avoid. Starting from scratch since i couldnt carry over my saves hurt too, i was really Plus dependent in my builds.
AC2 is also my favorite. I think it had the best story.
Most would likely say AC 2, but for me personally, it's a tie between Silent Line and Last Raven.

Silent line was pretty good and this AC was probably my favorite out of all of them. The current AC5 series is okay but I hate how much slower it is compared to pervious games.
The Full Metal Panic music hit me hard. Armored Core did remind me more of FMP than any other mecha show.

@@omega73115 Which ones? Emulation is the answer for most of them. I know all of them up to the PS3/360 era can be emulated quite well and easily if you have a PC made in the last five years or so. The PS2 and PSP games have a godawful blurring effect built into them that I've never managed to fully remove, however.

super late to this party but for skating mechs, check out the anime series Armored Trooper Votoms (I know gundam inspires this series of games alot but ATV FOR SURE had a huge role in these guys minds, powerful but paper thin mechs, nothing so overpowered it can't be taken out with a slightly better loadout than your opponent, heck even the overboost has a weird similarity to the AT units revving sound.) and for some more fancy stuff, Panzer World Galient. Heard the comment on skating mechs and had to put in my two cents.
I ended up returning here because YT recommended this again by chance due to my desire for more Armored Core since the AC6 announcement. Always loved AC4:FA and hope AC6 is the beginning of a new era for AC. I just hope the boys are willing to re-enter the fray of mecha on their respective channels.

so I just started watching the video, and I love that its saying these robots are taller than what is currently the tallest building in the world which is the 830 meter tall Burj Khalifa. Can't wait to see these robots fighting in New York with buildings taller than them because I fucking doubt they actually paid any attention to just how big 1000 meters is.

I think one of the first instances of a "skating" or "hovering" mech? the Doms from mobile suit gundam. They had big ol' hover feet. It's why they were so terrifying in any land engagement. They were fast as hell, and they were heavier than zakus so they could take more punishment.

A lot of Armored Core games were letdowns for me though I loved the original trilogy on PS1. I didn't care for 4 which was frustrating and kind of boring and 5 didn't have a big enough online community for it to be a half-online game.
I passed on this game entirely until another mecha loving friend convinced me to get it and holy shit this game is rad. My favorite Armored Core and one of my top 10 mech games.
I hope From Software sits down and makes another really amazing Armored Core game sometime.

I got AC4A and Front Mission: Evolved as christmas gifts one year and I played Front Mission first and I felt I had caught a glimpse of mecha hell itself. Then, I played AC4A and I felt I was delivered straight into mech heaven where I spent countless hours on this game customizing and having fun fighting the Arms Forts and other ACs. If I was charged with making my personal ultimate game it would be AC:4A with a huge open world, randomized instances with the Arms forts and enemy ACs, and more city environments.
Also, fun fact: The pile bunker Pat uses is referred to by some of the online AC blade players as a 'donkey punch'

Project Nimbus takes a lot of influence from armored core. It's in Early Access, but it's alright.
the scale of velocity on this mecha is BS! 0 to 1350km/h in a second? this wold be like a jet taking off at mach5, the acelleration wold kill any pilot and destroy the entire craft unless it is made of adamantim and the pilot is wolverine, than it is totally legit. (sorry for the englishs, it is not my native language)
Robin apparently it is explained in the lore that the pilots of the nexts don't sit in a traditional cockpit. that it is full of goo or something to allow the pilot to survive the maneuvers. can't remember the explanation for the armor though.
There's also magic plasma guns and infinite magic Kojima energy. Who cares? It's super cool.
NEXTs use a Allegorical Manipulation System , which allows rapid reaction times which also doubles as their life support system and how they can survive the G-forces pilots experience when controlling one. Also, only certain people can pilot the NEXT, depending on a psychic trait.

You have to play Omega Boost for the PS1 for the Mechaweek. This game is such an underrated gem. I remember playing the shit out of it when I was a little me.
I went as far as to make custom decals from little warning messages, to stripes and patterns (as well as "shiny black" by taking a logo with black on it, and making the front of your AC small until the black covers it all. It looked a lot cooler than just changing the regular color and had this sheen to it.). Got the balance of the stabilizers just right, made mid to light weights of various weapon layouts that could near infinite boost (unless you went tank, then you just commit to that.)
This was the last AC game I went really all out on. I tried with AC5 but I just couldn't get as into it.
Also speaking of the Moonlight sword, I wonder if Bloodborne's going to have some sort of equivalent.

I only ever played the AC1 series, but I was a nut for it. I only ever used the Moonlight Blade, no guns. No rockets. I had a super fast AC with radar jammers, and in the arena, PVP or v the computer it was all you ever needed. My slowest fight was only ever about 30-45 seconds. I'd figured out a one-hit kill that drove my friends insane, no matter the armor they used. You had to boost forward, then just slightly jump and trigger the blade so that it hit at a downward angle; dead.
