I agree with the Tau assessment. I have a friend that picked them as their first army and it hindered their growth as a player since they never practiced the combat step.

when i was 17 i bought some orks, some as in like 100 ork boys, killa kans, deffkoptas to name a few. painted 10 ork boys and i didnt bother with the rest till recently.
im 40 now, had to scrup the paint off them 10 😂
if i chose a starting army now it would be world eaters.

Tau are arguably one of the most diverse armys. Kroot charge and melee. Crisis suits and vespid deepstrike. And stealth suits pathfinders and ghostkeels infiltrate. They have everything

    • @johnhildenbrand2642
      @johnhildenbrand2642 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The Kroot have absolutely changed the name of the game for T'au, they used to be a straight up gun line and no good for new players because they'd never get any experience with the charge, but I think that they are probably a much better choice now.

I started playing 40K back in the Rogue Trader days (1992), when there really wasn't much to choose from and miniatures weren't nearly as expensive; so perhaps my perspective is a bit skewed. Regardless, over those 32+ years, this is the order of armies I've built and played:
    1. Space Marines (1992)
    2. Eldar (1993)
    3. Imperial Guard (1996)
    4. Tau (2006)
    5. Orks (2022)
IMHO, the most flexible army are my Eldar. However, they were very difficult to collect and paint.

Dang i just finished build/painting and learning Grey Knights, spent like $500 bucks on everything and had no clue they were tagged for an update soon. I pray I can get some resell value on anything that isn't in the codex after their revamp. I only play friendly games so i doubt my friends will force me to upgrade but it would be sad to see some of my forces phased out.... i didn't know this happened in Warhammer. I'll stop buying more models and just hold the line until the update i guess....

I disagree with why you say tau are a bad beginner army they were my 1st army and becoming a good tau player requires using the charge phase a lot and how can you say they don’t deep strike? Every single edition tau are deep strike heavy! Tau can shoot out of combat and ignore the penalty for doing so while benefiting from the -1 to hit and don’t have a durable objective holder meaning you need to play interference and can shut down opposing shooting units with charges plus it’s free movement.
Tau are not beginner friendly because they require so much knowledge of what your opponents army does and how to position correctly against them

Tau’s my first army and it sounds like you don’t know how Tau plays lol. This is misleading. Yes they are difficult to start with, but that’s because they are just a complex faction that doesn’t just use raw strength like most factions. Instead of stat lines and keywords, you have to synergies your units together to create “combos” in your plays that get the job done. Tau is very much a movement and board-control based gameplay style. You learn melee very quickly, because you quickly realize how punishing it is to be hit by. But I constantly nuisance charge with battlesuits, infantry when it’s appropriate, and certain vehicles for tank shock. Tau’s just hard to start out with because it’s very punishing while you’re learning what’s essentially a more complicated game than what pretty much every other faction is playing

Tau don't shoot extremely well. We also don't melee well. Our army is the lieral hardest army to play in the entire game.
I have ZERO interest in melee, melee is stupid to me.[ Tau also... are COSNTANTLY moving, you are 100% wrong on that. We only win by movement right now. We only win by deepstriking. We are out shot by nearly every single army in the game, we are clearly out-meleed... we need to be buffed yeah but still, movement is the only way Tau win. Like... melee is the simplest and dumbest part of 40k. It's shooting where you move your models to touch other models' bases. That's it. There's nothing about it more than that and maybe some special units that can jump out, charge again, or grandes. Who cares.
