5 Things Hollywood Taught Me NOT to Do as a Writer | Writing Tips & Advice
This will be a great warm up for DragonSteel Nexus next week. Can't wait to see the army builds
My son has a reputation at our FLGS as "The guy who does melee with Tau". Not that he is successful with it, he just does it because he says it's fun. That is the army he started with, he's starting a Knights force with the new battleforce box.
That's awesome! If you have fun playing it then it doesn't matter. The biggest goal is to have fun.
As an Army Engineer myself, I completely cosign the Imperial Fists. Also Army Civil Affairs is a good one for Word Bearers as well.
Maybe not the best for the Tyranids but Devastation of Baal has a lot of really cool Tyranid moments and parts. The bits about the lictor were so cool to read.
If you have recommendations, I'd love to read them.
The CIA - Alpha Legion connection makes a lot of sense!
probably night lords too
Don't actually play the tabletop, just a lore nerd, but this was a really cool concept for a video! Thoroughly enjoyed it, bravo
I'm glad you liked it. It was fun to bled the two.
Loved the recommendations. I have a few to shout out!!! Kasrkin- Edoardo Albert (kroot focus) Dark imperium - guy Haley (named greater deamons) The Lords of silence - Chris wraight (death guard 40k) Shroud of night - Andy Clark (alpha legion/sisters/imperial fists) Blood of Iax - Robbie macnieven (orks and ultramarines)
Love those shout outs! I may have to do a deeper dive because there are a lot for each faction.
The next video looks like fun!
I like that series.. it's pretty fun he does have a problem or two >.> but it's a fun one.
I like if to, but it's fair about the problems.
@ReadersThatWargame i love the perspective I love that pur hero does actually have to contend with everything... *coughs* i do like how the author addresss the... probability engine they are running through Skippy our Magical Beer can shaped overlord.
I love this series! I'll have to try this on the tabletop.
You definitely should
Great video, I love this channel as I am very happy to see that there is an appetite for narrative and lore based wargaming. I would like to know: what is the thought process is for selecting the army lists/force compositions to fit the set narrative? Once again great video, God bless!
I'm glad you're enjoying it! We're there specific questions, or were you requesting another video?
@ReadersThatWargame I was asking a specific question. Thank you.
I'm reading eisenhorn right now enjoying it so far though some of it is a little dry
Yeah it does have it's dry points
Very handsome man ❤
The Machine God is pleased and remember always watching
Oops instructions unclear became a heretic
Great series makes me laugh, skippy is such an enjoyable arse hole. I recommend the audio books v well read by RC bray.
Completely agree!
Can't wait!
Hope to see you there
Thanks dog, I’ll try it!
Definitely do, it's one of my favorites
The female Magus kit in GSC can easily be used a psyker. Either as-is or in a kitbash.
That's a great idea
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll add it to my to-read list.
Hope you enjoy it.
Started a few weeks ago. With eisenhorn and ciaphas cain. My question is do you think it’s worth diving into all of the horus heresy once I get more of the other books under me
The short answer is eventually yes, but I always recommend easing yourself into the world before the lore deep dive. The Heresy has a lot of fantastic books but it's a big commitment.
@ thanks! That’s great news. Cause I’m really falling deep into this world lol. In a few short weeks. I’ve finished Xenos. The first 2 ciaphas Cain books. Heroes of the space marines collection and now halfway through crusades and other stories. I’ll read a few more. Maybe Gaunts ghosts. And a few other series before diving into Horus.
That sounds like a great plan. The Heresy is awesome and a major plot points, but don't feel like you have to lead with it in the reading order.
Almost everyone makes a mistake when trying to build their astra militarum armies, lore accurate. The same mistake is made by the gw hobby team: for example a player wants to play with the 4th Cadian regiment. The infantry is from the 4th Cadian regiment, the tanks are from the 4th Cadian regiment and the kaskerins are from the 4th Cadian regiment... WRONG! Because the lore explains to us that, for example, the 4th Cadian is a line infantry regiment... The motorized infantry, the tanks, the kaskerins cannot be part of the 4th Cadian regiment. The leman russ will come from an armored regiment. Probably during a war a combined forces formation will be created under the command of officers of the 4th Cadian but I don't think it makes sense to have Kaskerin or Leman Russ with the insignia of the 4th Cadian... This is especially true when using very specialized regiments... For example if you want to play Tanith only the light infantry will be Tanith, mechanized infantry will be from another regiment, the same artillery, tanks and everything else.
As for heavy weapons... I imagine that the munitorum department will assign the Tanith infantry laser cannons if their mission is to ambush tanks, if they have to cross rough terrain they will be mounted on chimeras of a motorized regiment.. But surely a Tanith infantryman will not learn overnight to drive a hellhound or to be part of a howitzer battery.
Thank you. You are right on that. There were a few books where heavy weapons were directly attached to them, so I had to run with them to even make a playable list. I did have to stretch and pull from the entire series, so not just make this straight infantry, which wouldn't be legal to play.
@@ReadersThatWargame In the series and the stories, ghosts often work side by side with other regiments: heavy infantry, armor, and artillery (i did not remember all the names... but i remember the regiment with the basilisks they befriended or the heavy infantry, with armor and flamethrowers of a sanctuary world) To play units that are not strictly infantry, you could include these regiments. As for heavy weapons, it should be remembered that any veteran infantryman will know how to use a laser cannon or a heavy bolter, just as any modern veteran knows how to use a mortar, a machine gun, or a rocket launcher.
This is a cool idea! I've never thought about doing this.
Thanks, this was fun to make.
you should talk about the dark angels, thousand suns, or tyranids
I actually already have a video about the Dark Angels and Tyranids. I'll add the Thousand Sons to my list though.
@@ReadersThatWargamesounds super solid i’ll watch the dark angels and tyranids now fs
Ooh. Do Guant's Ghosts
I actually already did. You should check it out. th-cam.com/video/qFFVCWU5LwA/w-d-xo.html
I find the Tau super interesting you should do something with them
I got mine this morning! Can't wait to get into book 2.
Hope you enjoy it!
I have an all primaris 3rd Brotherhood army led by Kor’sorro and I built it to be primarily hit and run infantry with 3x 3 Outrider squads (because that’s all that you could run at the time). I also run 2 Glad Valiants. It’s good at scoring but not great at surviving… but I haven’t played since 9th.
It's that way but less likely to live in 10th. I have a similar build from 9th that I play for fun now.
This was really cool! I'd never heard of these guys before.
Thank you for making this ! I’m newer to warhammer and the scars are my chapter and whole building my army this has been my biggest predicament but not anymore !
I'm glad this helped, we White Scars need to stick together.
Can't wait! I already have mine pre ordered.
Hope you enjoy it!
IW fans have wanted a novelization of The Iron Cage for nearly two decades now. A 40k version/rematch would be great.
I completely agree. I've just started to learn more about them and I think they may be my chaos legion.
I would love to read any of these stories!
Thanks, I hope to write them someday.
👍👍👍.
Don't forget Try Again
3 regiments at founding not companys
So looking forward to the Lore Accurate Blood Angels!
It's in the works. I'm wanting to pair it with the Siege of Baal book review to get it accurate
Excellent video, thank you. God bless.
Great Video dude!
Glad you enjoyed it
No chris wraith? Should give the khan series a try
I'll have to check that out. I haven't read much from him.
Great list. I would have move adb up. Also you missed William King; he got me into the 40K universe. He is in my top 5.
I haven't read a lot of William King. I'll have to read more of his books.
My dude much appreciated right after my bday.
Happy birthday!
I think Peter Watts does a lot of stuff thats got a lot of the same spirit as 40K. His omnibus called Fire Fall has two novels in it that are set soon in earths future but give a very 40K vibe. It’s almost a little cyberpunk given human modifications, but there’s also a race of predatory vampires that humans enslaved, and an ominous object near Jupiter that seems to be observing earth. Worth a read! Also, the novel Annihilation has some excellent science fiction horror that could take place in the 40K universe. There’s a movie starring Natalie Portman that, while decent, is nothing like the books plot or quality. The Deep by Nick Cutter is also a good shout. The prose is a little too pulpy for me but I enjoyed the plot for what it was, and again, sci-fi horror done quite well.
Great suggestion, I haven't read most of those.
Thanks for a great video! I’ve been in and out of 40K for about 20 years and Dan Abnett was always considered the gold standard. I remember reading Pestilence, a short story in the Deathwing Anthology, and it set the bar absurdly high for all other authors at the time. I’ll need to give Mike Brooks’ stuff a try though, that’s some pretty high praise. I’m reading some of Peter Fehervari’s stuff right now. Worth checking out if you haven’t. Do you take video ideas? If you do, how about recommendations based on genre? I’m always up for 40K but sometimes I feel like something more comedic, or horror, for example. I think pretty much most genres are accounted for now under the Black Library banner.
Thank you, those are fantastic ideas. I'll have to think about doing those.
Good list and I am stoked to finish Horus Rising so I can check out your number 1 🎉
Good choice! It's one of my favorites
This is an awesome idea. I've loved playing this game.
Same here!
This looks like an awesome video! Can't wait to see it and can't wait to see you at DSN!
Can't wait!
Subscribed because I dig the content! I haven't played tabletop in over a dozen years, but I love the lore. Just finished Know No Fear by Abnett. Fantastic book!
Thanks for joining us. I loved that book too!
Dude, thanks. TH-cam didn't give me the notification on this. Been looking forward to this.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Imagination and creativity is important. Everyone has their own things they love about something as long as Everybody shares a mutual love for something thats great.
Completely agree
Love the idea but I would probably play Hellblasters instead of Heavy Intercessors because Plasma go wooooosh 👉😎👉
Very fair. That is a good alternative
