    “They’re all the same”
    That’s what everyone says
    But something’s a bit wrong, isn’t it?
Somehow I get the feeling something’s a bit wrong?
    “It’s wrong! It’s wrong!” That’s not true
“It’s wrong! It’s wrong!” Even if you insist
    “It’s wrong! It’s wrong!” Don’t ask me
    What? Something’s not quite right?
    YAVA! Oh-oh!
It’s bothering me, what should I do?

Which is that one? Which is this one?

Hi, I'm so glad you got to this, it's one of my favourites (obviously). They stopped playing it shortly after this performance (everything changed for them at the end of 2017). *But* they brought it back earlier this year and I can't wait for my Legend MM blu rays to ship on July 10th so I can see that performance also.
The first guitar solo was by Mikio Fujioka (RIP) who sadly died in January 2018.
Also one of the last performances Yui-metal (on the left of the trio) before she stopped performing for undisclosed health reasons at the end of 2017.
All the best - Rob C

@@myindieprodentertainment Yes, 2017 and 2018 was not good years for BABYMETAL fans. Both Mikio and Yui were greatly loved. To be fair, both kind of weird and lovely persons. Mikio did fall to death while star gazing. The reasons for Yui to leave was an enigma. We got both "health issues" and "wanting to pursue on her own". You have to understand that being a dancer for BABYMETAL is hard work, in particular for a teenager. I have seen Yui and Moa more or less dead after concerts. There is a short video showing them with big euphoric smiles and close to collapse just standing and looking at the crowd that shows their love for them. So, your physic and psyche needs to be at top to survive. The kids worked hard. And Yui had a tendency to work hardest and taking it most serious. Moa is more easygoing and can flash you with a smile and a dimple instead of giving it 150%.
On the other hand, the concerts 2017 are very good, like this one.

Another excellent, thoughtful reaction. Love the back and forth you two generate. I've always found the opening beat to this very interesting. Probably my upbringing but I get this Japanese twist on an old surfer movie from the 60's. Don't know why but that is the vibe I land on.
There Definitely keeps things a little lighter. Making for a higher contrast when you get the heavy metal drops later in the song. The first guitar solo in this song is played by the wonderful Mikio Fujioka (RIP). Such a unique musical voice and an always mischievous stage presence.
To me at least there is an almost ritualistic formality to the girls choreography. Every movement they make seems informed by an underlying intention. FYI: The girls started out with a lot of red in their costumes. As they grew the red disappears until arriving at the all silver and black seen here. Identifying this as a late OG performance.

_"Pippo pappo pippo pappo piii"_ 🦊🤘🔥
    Welcome back to the Foxhole.
YAVA! (actually Yabai!, It's a contraction) means like "oh no!" or when describing something dangerous or surprising.
They're fusing ska genre and metal in a way no one did before, the cuteness and charming of these girls is unmatchable.
The Kami Band intro in this one is super fun, Mikio Fujioka-sama (the guitarist) doing some magic here. (R.I.P.)
The bassist is called BOH (Daisuke Bohte), and there's no relation with the make up of another band, they're wearing white face paint and burial robes to represent spiritual entities, each one of them are called "kami" which roughly means god.
It's a decent live compilation out there with footage of Five Fox Festival 2017 and mixing up with Big Fox Festival 2017, that was the last live performance for YuiMetal which btw yesterday was her 25th birthday, happy belated birthday to our tomato princess.🍅❤
They played this song several times with the new avengers system after YuiMetal left the group and more recently last March at Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal's 21 birthday at Yokohama Arena, only thing it was with the West Kami Band unlike this one.
"Chigau" in the lyrics is the temporary title fans gave to this song when live premiere without knowing the song, the word means "different" and totally fits with the meaning of the song, this could be a song talking about them, you know the surprise factor of being different.
Next suggestion to have some more fun and with another Kami Band intro:
    - Awadama Fever with Kami Band intro live at Fox Festival 2017.
    See you next time!🦊🤘 🔥

I've heard different theories but I just don't get the masks. Actually hate them. The original Kami's added so much of their own charm and character to the early shows. Maybe that was deemed a problem?

    • @Ryujin170
      @Ryujin170 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@robote7679 Obviously, I can't speak for anyone, but I think the Japanese kamis would have been grateful for the career boost they got in the early days, but maybe they decided that they didn't want their solo projects to be overshadowed by their association with Babymetal later on. The Western Kamis were going to wear masks anyway, and the masks are easier than applying makeup, so maybe they made the mask decision themselves. The Kamis taking a backseat now looks like it was always going to happen when the girls became women anyway. I understand why most fans prefer the old dynamics though.
I don't think the Japanese Kamis would allow themselves to be forced to do anything they were not happy with. If the Kamis said no, Koba would likely concede.
These are just my opinions about some of the possible reasons though, I haven't heard anything about the Kami situation from any official source. And it's possible the Kami band dynamics could change again in the future, and if there is going to be a change, it will be during the next album tour.

    • @robote7679
      @robote7679 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@Ryujin170 Yeah, I'm pretty on board with all you had to say. Especially about the Kami's going more to the background as the girls matured. As they've gotten more mature the feeling has been they don't need the security assurance of the Kamis being right behind them on stage. The focus is very much now Babymetal. I've read a comment from the OG Kami's-sorry I've got to paraphrase, it was a while back-and they basically say exactly what you said. "We love the girls. Because of them we've gotten to play huge concerts and tour the world."
I also read regarding the switching over to the Western Kami's that when the OG Kami's started playing with Babymetal some of the musicians were already 20 years older than the girls. So not just age, but family life, other projects-as you said- etc. for the OG Kami's may very well have necessitated the switch over to the younger Western Kami's.
I did also read-but this was the most hard to verify-that when Su became officially stage manager some of that traditional patriarchal Japanese culture eg: Megitsune-may have become a bit of an issue with the older Japanese Kami's. But I read that once and we know the miasma of rumor and lore that surround Babymetal.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful and generous response.

Great reaction guys, loved your analysis. This is such a wonderful song in so many ways! Never would I have thought I would hear a Ska-metal tune with heavy AF break down, an epic band solo, and mixed with J-Pop vocals. And you guys are somewhat on point with the meaning: I always interpreted this song to carry the overall sense of "Oh No! this is different, that is different, what shall I do?!", which is a light hearted jab at those that can't accept Babymetal. They love a good pun and being smart-asses haha.
Also, kudos to Key Kobayashi (Producer) who scouted Suzuka Nakamoto when she was just 11 or 12 at one of her farewell concerts for "The Karen Girls" idol group before Babymetal. He said her voice stood out as ver powerful even at that young age, and not be drowned out by a heavy metal band behind her. Amazing!

You guys need to check out Rondo of Nightmare Mischiefs of Metal Gods at Budokan Live. Along with Tales of Destinies. Rondo Su-Metal was maybe 17 in that performance and already years ahead in the game at that point.
Such a classic performance and one i wish they would bring back. Tales of Destinies Live was performed at the Tokyo Dome. It was a one time Tribute to Dream Theatre"s Dance of Eternity.
This song is brilliant and has so many signature changes. Makes me wonder how the f*** they practiced this lol. The Kami Band is boss as f*** but also as interesting tidbit as well.

Good reaction ... but this isn't anywhere near as early BABYMETAL as you can go - they'd been going for almost 7 years at this point in 2017 - Su was 19, Yui and Moa probably 17 or just turned 18. They were positively grown up compared to when they started in 2010.
Kami means god or spirit, so the Kami Band are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in ALL their live shows. That's why they wore the traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint.
They first appeared in October 2012 and became the full time support for live shows in March 2014.
In this instance they were Mikio Fujioka (RIP Jan 2018) and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums).
'Yava' is their blend of metal with ska. I think Ganimal83 has explained the lyrics and possible meaning of this song best in the comments below.

Su is actually 18-19 here, Moa and Yui are 17. This a compilation I think so the video of the intro doesn't match the sound completely. I think the vocal performances are all from the Fox Festival shows from 2017. The Kami Band always plays with Babymetal for live shows. There is an East kami band (all Japanese musicians) that has played with Babymetal since 2014 but last played with them in 2023. There is also a West Kami band (all US/Canadian musicians) that has played with Babymetal since 2019 and is now their primary touring band. The East Kamis don't really seem to like to tour outside of Japan any more. Both bands are made up of fantastic musicians.

Kami means god, and in babymetal lore, they are metal spirits or ancestors that the fox god bestowed upon babymetal to accompany them thru their ‘metal journey’.😊

やば (yaba) or やばい (yabai) doesnt so much mean danger as it means like "oh no!" or "whoa thats crazy!" Depending on context

Have you guys noticed that the Japanese audiences never have phone/cameras in their hands? Major taboo in Japan to video during a concert. Also why they are, to me, the best audiences in the world.

Thank you for your wonderful response. I think the members of Kami Band during this period had world-class performance techniques. The singers were between 15 and 17 years old, and I think they were the best, not only in terms of their singing ability but also in terms of their sharp dance performances. In other words, I think Babymetal was at its best during this period.

In the lyrics above, the word "wrong" is said again and again. I think that is the "ciga", "cigo" and "cigaru" that is repeated in the song. But, I have seen other translations, and there the word "different" is the word that is repeated. Hmmm, Yava! is danger though. Or rather ヤバッ (Yaba-tsu) means "Oh no!". Looking up the chiga thing I get 違う(Chigau) wich means different. So, maybe Japanese has the same word for different and wrong? Or maybe this translation is wrong?

I mean can the guy who requested the song find a better compilation? I literally can't watch a series of solos where the sound doesn't match the playing. Burns my eyes

Yes, we said we didn't know much about them at all. We are still learning about Babymetal, so we never claimed to be experts on that 🤷
In any way, thank you for taking the time to view and engage. Much appreciated!
