Holy Mother, WHO IS THIS BAND!? FANTASTIC TRACK. Amazing warm harmonies. They don't look like they should (image wise). You hear this on Internet Radio without the vid, you imagine Some typical 80's rockers with long locks but they look so ordinary. Almost Proto pop. They sound a little bit like the band "Live" (Ed Kowalczyk) to me. Interesting take on this, thanks 👌🤘👍

This song makes so many Ghost fans, including myself, feel seen. The lyrics call to our souls and help us to feel less alone. It's so fun watching you both discover the greatness that is Ghost. I highly recommend listening to Life Eternal. Its such a beautiful song.

Thank you for doing this. Everybody finds a different story behind it but all are similar. I'm kinda new to this band but they are fast becoming one of my favorites. From what I understand Shadow of Intent are known for music pertaining to Video Games though not all of their music. Everything works so well in this from the video to the music to the general atmosphere. Topped with the Classical back drop of the music makes this in my mind a Masterpiece. Thanks again.

Just like with Lorna Shore, I respect the talent of Shadow of Intent a great deal but deathcore is never going to be one of my genres of metal. The vocals in deathcore and in too much death metal tend to be over the top or too repetitive. My tastes run more to the melodic death metal bands like Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Scar Symmetry, Ne Obliviscaris, Insomnium and Crypta (I could list more). On the subject of over the top harsh vocals, there is a great video of Tatiana of Jinjer trying to guess if what she hears is a harsh vocalist or an animal. I love that you guys used the word "conversation", as opposed to "duel" or "battle" that so many others have. They, in no way, are fighting each other.

I love many things about this fantastic song, but one is that the choreo hasn't changed in 12 years, because they nailed it the first time. Also, an excellent reaction, I appreciated the analysis and insights, thank you.

This is the only song I would recommend the official vid...which you just watched. Everything else needs to be live with babymetal, though even this song is fantastic live. As for metal, these girls have some pretty heavy songs in their catalogue. (heavier than this one)

They have such a presense, you really can't take your eyes off of them! Su's voice-I believe she is 15 here and still her voice is-such a good adjective-haunting. One personal note. I've always been a bit ambivalent-not with the performance but the maturity of this subject matter for such young folks. They performed this at PIA Arena in 2023 now as mature young women and to me at least they have completely grown into the subject matter and the version is just fire. There are many layers to this MV. I like it because it gives more insight into their message. I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. 🦊 🖖❤

Great reaction! Babymetal will always surprise you, and this song always slaps. They’ve performed this fan favorite well over ~340+ times since 2013! *On the lyrics:* Babymetal is dispelling the traditionally derogatory term of “Megitsune”, “Vixen” used to label women as conniving/deceiving. They are saying women were always expected to be actresses to hide their emotions in public, so they are not vixens, but pure hearted female foxes. But, times are changing, along with what it means to be an ideal woman, so “shoot up your fireworks”, and essentially, show the world who you are! *On their name:* Babymetal is a play on words. Heavy metal: ヘビーメタル (Hebīmetaru) Babymetal: ベビーメタル (Bebīmetaru) They love a good pun lol. Look forward to more Babymetal reactions! 🤘🦊

I am convinced that BabyMetal would not have become world famous and lasted this long if it was not for Suzuka. She was only 15 in this video (she looks even younger to me), but she already had a strong voice and that "it" factor. The performance that sold me on her talent was the mv for the early 2015 live performance of Road of Resistance. She was barely 17 but commanded a crowd of 20,000. Suzuka tends to always find a place in lists for top 10 female metal singers and I have no argument against that at all. She might even be in my top 10 list if I was to make one.

The surprise is pretty much guaranteed with them - even with their MVs (which are usually weaker than live performances (but NOT "official")). This MV is exceptional though - glad you liked it :) More pls - preferably live (which often come with intros, subtitles, are not studio and you get to see crowd involvement). More pls! :D

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ A true classic. To quote the BABYMETAL members in the audio commentary they did for this song: [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs). Megitsune is still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Su has mentioned that this is one of her favorite songs, even though it's a difficult one for her to sing live. She hopes to sing it perfectly some day. : ) The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Su-metal likes to think of this song as expressing the Japanese character of facing adversity with resilience. A person might feel sad or overwhelmed, but they put on a brave face and carry on. She has talked about how adult women are so cool as they never show suffering, by acting quite as usual even in a hard time, and she hopes to be like that as well.

I've always loved this song since the album came out, I felt it was better than Eye of the Tiger indeed - but since it did not end up as title song of a very popular movie... well. But it's a masterpiece and a timeless classic. Survivor was an awesome band and this album was chock full of fantastic songs. This one was their best though imho. Maybe together with Jackie Don't Go, which worms its way into my brain and gets stuck there for days every time I listen to it. Or think of it. Damn. Excellent reaction again, thank you. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, as you said, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society, saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. I think you pretty much got it spot on. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. Feel free to do another reaction to a live version if you want to, nobody will complain. Su's live vocals coupled with the Kami Band's instrumentals and then with the energy of a good live audience just make the whole thing more special. Live at the PIA Arena, Clear Night from April last year is a good one.

One of the MV's that roped me in 2016. So did you notice that Su had the Mic-Knife in her hand the whole time, also did you catch Moa falling. Su says, when she pulls the knife, "Maidens are not to be underestimated". It's a line from a Japanese crime movie. Spoken by the daughter of the crime lord. There is a "making the video" video with the girls narrating. Note: you are in agreement with Rob Zombie!!

May I suggest that you rewind the video five or ten seconds after pausing before resuming so as to regain the flow of the video? Anyway . . . . Another great song from "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" also known as the "Yui Era". Alas, I, too, was late to this party (about ten years late) but I think I've gotten up to speed now. Probably the one thing I found most intriguing about Su-metal's voice is she rarely (if ever) uses vibrato - when she hits a note, she keeps it; there's no excessive exercising of the vocal cords which far too many singers seem to think "enhances" their talent. PAH! I think the vibrato is used way too much. Another aspect of this song is that women are seen as being deceptive but that is what has come to be expected from the male perspective. In some cases, women are fulfilling a role foisted upon them, a role that they are not all together happy with. And, in the Japanese culture, this perception is all the more pronounced. "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated" (pulling a tanto from microphone). BTW: kudos for adding the lyrics to the description - I can't say I've ever seen reacters do that! Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! I am now very sorry for my earlier comment. Please accept my apologies. Having now watched/listened to more of your reactions, I completely disagree with myself!! You are very careful and skillful in your analyses. What was I thinking? And, if you can forgive me, I recommend you look into the person most responsible for the existence and success of BabyMetal: "KobaMetal".

It's important to note that the Gatekeepers who dislike BabyMetal are not actually accomplished metal performers. BabyMetal has either performed with or been endorsed by most of the biggest names: Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Dragonforce, Bring Me the Horizon, Rob Zombie (who has entered online discussion threads, arguing with his own fans that BM is wonderful), Judas Priest/Rob Halford, and others. This, to me, means that the people who actually make the best metal music, who know how difficult it is to do well, and who know what it's like to face a tough crowd, say BabyMetal is ALL THAT! Thank you for you very skillful look at this music and these musicians.

Ren made this video with a budget of only £500! Not just a grnius but a genius who can create his art on a shoestring budget… I was very impressed by by that. He’s a huge fan of cinema which must have a positive impact on his video creating… as always, love your in-depth analysis of the video/ song. Ren is an enigma , an anomaly- one of a kind. Nice! Ahhh, man... BABYMETAL never gets old. Every day, I listen to their precious music & it's just a pure joy, a lot of inspirations with their intricate tales, the positive messages alongside a sea of variety, & outstanding musicality.

I am so glad you have started to react to Babymetal and that you like them. I have so enjoyed your reactions to the point where if you react to a band I love, like Babymetal, I am nervous that you won't like them. Babymetal is unique and spectacular. Wait until you get to live performances from more recent times. They have kind of exploded again in the last few years with a new album, big tours, big festival appearances and massive shows in Japan. In a matter of days they will host their Fox Festival in Tokyo at the Saitama Super Arena with guests Asterism, Electric Callboy and Polyphia. Their music is great but they are definitely performance art and their big shows in Japan since Su turned 16 (2013) are off the charts crazy productions.

Great reaction, thanks! "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 339 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013. Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. That breakdown hits hard and (apart of those pig squeals) the melody is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). As you found out "megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so, vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity able to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady form) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important! It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best). In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. And about its locations: - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo (Noh theater) at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals. - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence. I am very happy to have visited both locations during my recent trip to Japan (among many other incredible places). Until next time! 🤘🦊
