I'm 70 years old. Everything I've listened to for over half a century has led me to BABYMETAL. I've reached the end of the road, BABYMETAL is my country, Suzuka is my Queen.
Good one, thanks! "FDTD" is considered a rarity for many reasons: style, vocals, language, song's release, live history, etc. Regarding the musical style, this is a rare mix of dream trance with metal. Vocally, the song starts with some of Su-metal's falsetto (not the first time we hear her doing it) and yes she goes high there... But it's even more impressive when she belts those crazy notes. Lyrics are fully in English and they only released it on the international version of the Metal Resistance album but not on the domestic (Japanese) version which includes "Syncopation" instead. The song premiered live in 2017 at Hollywood Palladium but they got some issues with the live footage (apparently regarding copyright, which is hilarious!) and it wasn't performed again until 2021at Budokan, which is where this footage comes from. Yes, their outfits (or costumes, after all, they are actually playing a character when they perform live) are totally iconic. 🤘🦊
FDTD is an amazing song and one of Babymetal's most unusual songs. It's such a shame that they've only performed it live three times. I'd love to see it one of these days. You're right about their stage performance; Babymetal isn't just a concert, it's a full theatrical production that few other artists can match. Babymetal's outfits are designed to be reminiscent of armor, as befitted the champions of the Fox God going into battle for the honor of metal.
Welcome back to the Foxhole.🦊🤘🔥 Thanks for watching this suggestion. Although it looks like a new song from previous album and we only got this proshot version from 2021, song it's actually from Metal Resistance released in 2016 and becomes one of the underrated tracks but hidden gem for some more fans. This song was performed along with Syncopation in the middle of setlist during Doomsday III and IV, it got that epic and ethereal vibes and it shows a mature side in BM second album, Metal Resistance. Both songs are part of that album, only thing is FDTD was released for international market and Syncopation only locally, of course is another suggestion for next reaction. This is a long time waited proshot version for the fans, song was pushed to be performed again after many years and being played only one time at Hollywood Paladium in 2017 while on US tour when YuiMetal was still in the group, sadly for copyright disputes that proshot version never saw the light and we only have fancams of that. Thankfully they performed this in 2021 at 10 Babymetal Years Budokan, and surprised everyone with this astonishing and beautiful production. Momoko Okazaki (now MomoMetal) was the avenger helping to fill the third spot and she did a great job. Also the English lyrics is a little bit more clear thanks to Papa Xan from BMRR although this one is a fan edit with another English translation, but we don't have official lyrics yet, is one out of four songs with full English lyrics. Like someone said before, MoaMetal is like a body subtitles for this song. Love that dubstep or brostep breakdown, is a genre widely know and popular around 2015 thanks to Skrillex among others, he actually become very good friend of BM and even invite them to perform during a Skrillex show in Japan playing a remix version of Gimme Chocolate!! Tomorrow (in just a few hours for Japanese time) is MoaMetal's birthday, so another suggestion from this concert to come back and honor her special b'day should be: - Onedari Daisakusen live at Budokan 2021. - GJ! live at Budokan 2021. Both are MoaMetal solo performances but originally were Black Babymetal with only Yui and MoaMetal performing. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥
💕 ⚡ 🍑 / 🌅 I was at the Hollywood Palladium in 2017 when this song had its live debut. More importantly, also in the audience that night were Su's Mom and Dad. : ) However, I would have loved to see one of the two Budokan February 2021 performances. They took it to a new level. BTW, there's no English translation for this song because it's already entirely in English. Although the lyrics are clearer in this performance than on the album track, or the first time it was performed live.
great reaction! SU's falsetto is very powerful and beautiful. I hope you will listen to them sometime, MOA&MOMO are also good singers, although they are in charge of dance & screams in BABYMETAL.
Great stuff, thanks for watching this very special performance of a very special song. This is a rarity, it was the first song they recorded entirely in English that does not have an alternate Japanese version. 'From Dusk Till Dawn' was on the international release of the Metal Resistance album - the Japanese release had 'Syncopation' instead. They had only ever played FDTD one time live - at the Hollywood Palladium in 2017 - before the 10 Budokan 2021 concerts where it finally got two more performances and we finally got this pro-shot video from the DVD to see it performed. When they played it in 2017 it was filmed, but because of some sort of copyright dispute the pro-shot video was never released. All we had to see of that performance were a lot of shaky and not great quality fancam videos (oimatsu おいまつ has done a great job putting the best of those together in a compilation and he has cleaned up and remastered the live audio too). When BABYMETAL held a poll to decide the top 10 songs for their 10th anniversary 'Best Of' album a fan campaign had FDTD voted up as one of those 10. It was actually not included, but we did finally get these 2 more live performances at the Budokan 2021 concerts and the pro-shot video we were craving. Although it is all in English it was never easy to make out the lyrics (especially with no live performance on film) and the lyrics have never been published. All we have are some "best guesses" most of which are probably way off. The (probably) closest guess to date is to be found on the Babymetal Reactor Resource video subtitles. On BABYMETAL's costumes. After they got some budget for costumes they have always gone with a distinctive and recognisable silhouette and that has remained similar (but not identical) with each costume change (they change their costume to a new variation roughly every year). In a lot of imagery they have used their silhouettes because, as you said, they are so distinctive and recognisable.
So something thar JUST occurred to me. Maybe I'm stupid lol, but I think those epic I trust are on purpose. I think they serve more purpose than to get the audience all hyped up. I think many of their songs have these epic I trust so the girls get to have a quick 1 or 2 mi ite break so they can catch their breath a little, get a quick drink of water and whatever. ESPECIALLY since they do so much Choreo.
You are both outstanding. Great videos and editing. I love that you did this track, and so early in your journey. So peculiar and outstanding. I love how many things BABYMETAL does. One of my favorites (but most are.)
I always enjoy your BABYMETAL reactions! You pay attention to the details in all the different facets of their performances, and you always have some nice comments. And most importantly, you always enjoy them. Reminded me that I hadn‘t subscribed, yet, but that was easily remedied.
Great reaction, as always! FDTD is a mood... one (of many) of my absolute favourites. And you are right, Su's vocals are magnificent in this. I enjoy the Samurai armour concepts that have been incorporated into various costumes over the years. Thank you for the reaction. 🦊🤘🔥
Great reaction, glad you liked it so much. One of my top favourite songs of theirs Their various costumes are modelled on traditional samurai armour, or "battle dress" as the girls call it. All the best! - Rob C.
From Dusk Till Dawn :BABYMETAL / From "Metal Resistance" (second album, 2016) Music Composed & Arranged by YUYO YUPPE (YUPPEMETAL), Lyrics: KITSUNE of METAL GOD, KxBxMETAL, TMETAL Produced by KOBAMETAL (Kei Kobayashi) .
Well their uniforms first relied on ancient Roman armour, till they went back to normal dresses and got their real secrets. They give them in their uniforms their Poster and Form while their normal appearance changed. They can go among people and no one really recognizes them. Since they are the new Babymetal they sometimes allow selected backstage images through or more precisely, they are old enough that no one can claim anymore to be their legal repräsentative. But you wont really recognize them.
I wouldnt say that her normal voice is falsetto. She sings in chest voice and most often a mixed (chest and head) voice. This falsetto at the beginning is rare but i love it so much
The atmospheric intros to these live performances could very easily stand on their own as master pieces of work. The girls costumes stand out in a time where so many female groups of many different genres dress as though they are strippers at the night club, I think many female "artist" dress so scantily as to distract from how little talent they really do have. These costumes make the girls look fierce and beautiful at the same time while not showing any skin except their hand and face. One comment I had read was" they dress like Witches" which might not be far off because they sure have seemed to have cast a spell on me.
I became a Headbanger back in 83-84 with Dio's Holy Diver and Judas Priest's Defenders of the Faith the first two of what became hundreds of albums in my collection... i went on to see dozens of Arena/Stadium concerts in what I would like to consider the Golden Era of Heavy Metal. Credentials now hopefully sufficiently established, what we term "Gatekeeping" is a long held practice that was very much in effect among my peers at the time. "Iron Maiden? Judas Priest? Totally Metal... Scorpions? Def Leppard? Not Metal as much as Hard Rock.." and so on. Whether a band was Metal or not was a frequent debate.... which I gradually realized was amusing, certainly, but ultimately pointless. I am too much of a Headbanger to let others define it for me. Babymetal, more than any band in recent years, really struck my nostalgia nerve and, frankly, has revived what had been a waning interest in the music of my period. Kobametal's vehicle started out very much a loving Tribute to the Metal of yore, but I am all the more impressed in how it has evolved into breaking new ground and exploring and expanding the genre. Thanks to them, I am now expanding my horizons as well. Thanks to those who read to the end and indulged my long diatribe. Headbanger (ヘドバンギャー!!) for Life!!!
Another truly thoughtful and well expressed reaction. As you noted Babymetal's costumes have changed and evolved over the years. These are from their warrior phase and to me they bring together two often contradictory objectives-Babymetal are feminine. However they never try to objectify or capitalize on that side of themselves. These costumes are gorgeous and there is no doubt that Babymetal are women. Yet they carry that identity not as objects but as warriors and it works so wonderfully. In their early years they wore a lot of red-gradually phased out. When Momo officially became a member they had the "new era" bright, iridescent costumes. Their now current costumes-to me at least-seem to be an amazing confluence of the black & silver warrior and the colorful, iridescent new era. They are amazing. And were started to be worn-again I believe-at this years Fox Fest. They are a marvel of costume design.
Nice! This is an amazing song, and all in English too! However, it is meant to be abstract. Aside from being an atmospheric mood builder, Babymetal song intros also serve as a mini "break" for the girls and the band to tidy up, get some water and take a breather. Afterall, they go hard for every song for a full show. This song's lighting, key change along with the vocals and choreography is insane. Walks you through a slow descent from dusk into the chaos of the dark midnight, then an epic ascension into the warm morning sunrise...From Dusk Till Dawn! 🤘🦊
The arena shows are primarily in Japan. The only arena shows that I know of were in GB Wembley Arena and in the US LA Forum. When they tour they are performing in theaters, much like where everybody else performs. This is before Momoko became a full member of Babymetal. 2 indicators; her hair is not in Twin Tails and she is barely has any solo shots. Though I'm not sure that Momoko. Could be Riho or Kano.
The lyrics aren't translated; they are in English. But they leave a lot of room in interpretation. Been a lot of discussion about what the song means, and the performance makes me reconsider.
Their costume designs always follow a theme of an era, metal resistance, dark side, metal galaxy(which you saw in this vid) and now metalverse. The design reflects battle armors(which started back in legend 1997), who they are battling or what they are fighting for is up to your interpretation.😊
