    I have the Venu 2 and Fenix 6X Pro. I find myself really loving my V2 more. The big advantage to the Fenix series is maps, especially for back country adventures. For day to day use, average folks working out, the Venu is fantastic.

    Great review and tipped me initially towards the Venu 2. I've just bought one to replace a 645 Forerunner where the case broke. Screen and interface are light years ahead of the 645, but they have stripped out a few of the running stats from that watch (eg vertical oscillation, even though my chest strap supports it) and very annoyingly Strava Live Segments. To my mind, Garmin never really replaced the 645 - you either dumb down a bit with the 245 which also lacks some smart features (such as Pay) or go full triathlon. Here's hoping that there is an Amoled Forerunner soon. In the meantime, pondering whether to go for that Epix after all...

    This is a relevant comparison video for me and my use case, as I'm not really a typical sports guy (more of the target group for Vivoactive/Venu), but I'm really tired of trying (and failing) to use a touchscreen outdoors when I need to wear gloves almost half the year (Sweden). I have been looking at something like a FR745, but this touchscreen+button combo of Fenix 7/Epix 2 really seems like the best of both worlds. Really hope that feature will come to the FR line soon!

    It‘s getting kind of annoying that the Venu line is missing so many rather essential training features like Recovery time, Training load or race predictor. I think they should just roll all the 645 tier metrics into this watch, since that spot in the line up is now vacant, and call ist a day.
    Or just make an Amoled 655 now that I think of it.

    Hey DC, thank you for the comparison videos. I’m in the market for a new watch and have been watching all of your watch comparison videos 😵‍💫 they’re very informative but I still can’t figure out which is the right watch for my purposes:
    1) I run occasionally and would like to use one for marathon training
    2) I’d like to track my sleep and steps- any additional health tracking would be a bonus
    3) I’d like a watch I can wear during a spartan race and not worry about the dirt destroying the Watch
    4) I train in a gym 85-90% of the time so fun gym features (although not necessary) would be fun to have.
    5) I’ve been going back and fourth between Apple Watch, Garmin FENIX, Venue 2 Plus and Epix. All very different I know. 😣
    I’d love to know your thoughts! Thank you in advance

      You need a durable watch for those outdoor activities. I recommend you get something like a Fenix 7 with a sapphire screen. A Venu 2 will get destroyed doing those activities. I have both the Fenix 7X solar sapphire and the Venu 2. My Venu 2 is my daily watch, much more comfortable, and my Fenix 7 X (heavy, bulky and tough as nails) is my outdoor watch.

    Ray,
    I am interested in either of these watches. I would get one mostly for health tracking. My main endurance sport is cycling. I already have an Edge cycling computer to handle the activity tracking.
    How would the Venu/Fenix/Epix be used in conjunction with the Edge while still being able to use the Stamina feature if the watch isn’t the main tracker?

  • @MrSupernova111
    @MrSupernova111 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have Fenix 7 X Solar Sapphire and recently got a Venu 2 (on sale) for daily use. The Fenix 7X is just too big and heavy for daily use. The Venu is perfect and has the basic activities I do although metrics are trimmed down. I plan to keep using my Venu 2 for daily use and for travel. Its much lighter and if something happens to it I won't be as upset as if something happened to my Fenix 7. I use my Fenix 7 for outdoor activities and exercising because it tracks a lot more metrics and has mapping. I would recommend the Venu 2 for anyone who doesn't need performance metrics beyond the basics, doesn't need mapping and wants to save some money. My Venu 2 records all my vitals, sleep score factors and has built in spotify which I use often. It has messaging, the battery lasts 11-12 days, has AMOLED screen, and is much lighter and comfortable for daily use. Doesn't get much better than that for a daily watch. The best part is that all my vitals and performance metrics are updated in the Garmin app seamlessly.

    Subjective or not but I'm not very keen on the bolder typeface of the Epix. I wonder what the reason for Garmin for that has been? The bolder typeface on the Epix tends to be fuzzy whereas the roman typeface of the Venu plus is imho far clearer.

    • @Dcrainmaker

    The Fenix appears to use another font, which appears to be thicker than the font used on the Venu. You can see it quite clearly on the side by side comparisons. Is this true?
    The text and numbers on the Venu look much sharper to me. Could you please clear that for me? Thanks!

    Does the stress, sleep and body battery data from the Venu impact the recovery and training metrics of a Fenix (or 945/745) if you wear the Venue as your day-to-day watch and the Fenix (or 945/745) for workouts?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hmm, at a high level yes. But I think there's some substantial 'devils in the detail' aspects to it. For example, the Fenix/FR wouldn't likely trigger changes to daily suggested workouts, since it doesn't think it's primary. But that's just my guess.

    • @ovp66223

      durability as much as anything. If you have a thin wall or depth or screen, it will be damaged much sooner. Hi! I need some advice and I think you’re the one that could help me. I currently have vivoactive4, but there are a lot of things that I started to miss and decided to upgrade. I've watched a lot of reviews on YT, read a lot of reviews, but still don't know what's best for me. I'm wondering between the forerunner 945, venu 2 and epix 2 (although this price hurts a bit and I don't know if I really need all the features). I run 3 times a week mainly in the city / in the stadium, but I would also like to introduce cross-country / forest runs and therefore I think that navigation would be useful, which automatically disqualifies venu 2. In addition, I also train 3-4 times in the gym and I’d really want to have the status of training after these trainings (training load) and recovery, which also disqualifies venu 2. However, after vivoactive4 I liked the touch screen very much, which, unfortunately, is not available in the forerunner. So I am asking for help, is epix 2 really the only option in this case? It's plausible, though I suspect it might be the optical illusion with the edges of the glass rounding off on the Venu 2. I sent back my Venu 2 Plus last week and kept the Epix, but I felt that as someone who primarily wants to use touchscreen control, the V2P was better at that. I find that the Epix forces me to use buttons in more scenarios than the V2P did.

    As a Fenix 6S Pro owner I’m not likely to update to either but it’s an interesting exercise to see which way I’d go if my Fenix 6S suddenly died. I don’t do triathlons so not interested in the multi-sport bit and the price difference is significant. I also think the Epix is way too big for my skinny arms. I rarely use the maps but that could be in large part to staying close to home in the past 2 years which hopefully won’t always be the case! I greatly prefer to use a watch with buttons - I ditched Apple Watch because the touchscreen was finicky when wet so I’d need to see how the Venu worked in bad conditions (no false presses etc). I find the recovery information interesting but ultimately I’m not elite and I should listen to my body. So I suppose with all that the main miss would be the maps, but all those dollars…

    Surprised you didn’t talk about watch faces that are available or connect IQ version. I love my Epix, but surprised there are no native watch faces that take advantage of the OLED display like the Venu2 has. The Epix is also not compatible with CIQ version 4 like Venu 2 either. Odd to spend a$1,000 on a watch which main feature is the screen vs Fenix yet Garmin has created no watch faces to take advantage of that screen. No live watch faces or even faces that take advantage of contract, colors, or pixel density.

Not sure why this profile would not be on the Venu 2 Plus as it is marketed as a cross fit type of device. Just my 2 cents.

    I’ve got Fenix 6 X Pro Solar, Epix Gen 2 & Venu 2 Plus, the biggest difference I’ve found is the heart rate sensor on the Venu 2 Plus is very hit or miss if you have tattoos over your wrist like I do, both Epix & Fenix 6 work, is this down to a cheaper sensor on the Venu 2 Plus ? I get the same with Apple Watch 7 too, which I’m thoroughly pee’d off with as I bought the stainless version and now barely use it !

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Epix and Venu 2 Plus are actually identical sensors. The Fenix 6 is an older generation. If you’re seeing differences between Epix and Venu 2 plus, it may be due to the larger size helping conceal light from getting in, which in turn helps the sensor more. Do ensure no matter the watch, it’s snug, which also reduces light leakage.

    Great review! How long does the Epix 2 screen stay on for in gesture mode when you are looking at it? I work in healthcare, and one of the essential features in a watch for me, is the ability to see the seconds hand of my analogue watch face for at least 15 seconds (to count patient's heart rates, respiratory rates etc.) My Samsung watch is frustrating from this point of view as the screen turns off while I'm looking at it, and my other hand is usually holding a stethoscope (so I can't wake the screen back up). In always on mode, does the seconds hand of the analogue watch face still remain visible?

    • @jhoff80
      @jhoff80 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't found a watch face with the seconds hand constantly visible yet. The max you can set the screen timeout to is exactly 15 seconds. You'd have to move your wrist a bit to keep the screen on otherwise.
