      I know right? I looking to upgrade from an Apple Watch as it has awful battery life and honestly very few features. But with Garmin there’s so many watches with so many features. So far from what I understand the venu 3 is very good at doing a lot of Garmins features. Like tracking stuff like running, cycling, and sleep tracking. And it also has golf stuff as well like stat tracking. I think this is the one I’m getting seems to be packed with features well not being as expensive as other Garmin models.

      Map, course, navigation which is kind of huge. It's nice to be in a hike. Look for toilets around and see one a mile out. Or detour, track backs etc. Perfect for people who don't need it. I'd like to see a comparison of the 265. That would be close

    Garmin is at a point where they need to simplify their product line. 2-3 generations ago there were clear differences between feature sets. At this point, all of these watches do more than 99% of what most users need. The difference between this and an epix or fenix is pretty marginal.

    • @BobbyWoody429
      @BobbyWoody429 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I suppose the epix and Fenix are for the top end pros, but even their consumer targeted smartwatches like the Venu series are still focused on fitness much more than rivals from Apple and Samsung

    • @DadDrums1015
      @DadDrums1015 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I like that garmin finally went oled. They can tune the screens with the tech and battery life to still give an impressive fitness watch. I always said Garmin is almost perfect as a fitness watch brand. They’ve needed those smartwatch features to stay somewhat close to the modern tech but they’ve still retained what makes Garmin….Garmin

    • @doorkum
      @doorkum ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I prefer the current Garmin where the features between one product is similar. Since you can't be stuck with watch you don't like aesthetically for a certain feature.

    • @hobotify
      @hobotify ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There´s quite a bit of difference between product lines i think. All of them do fitness and wellness, but there are exclusive features:
      Venu: smartwatch features, calling and voice assistant
      Instinct: Super durable, super battery life
      Fenix/Epix: offline maps, flagship material quality

    • @indonesiaamerica7050
      @indonesiaamerica7050 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      How is that a bad thing? The Epix and Fenix have always been known as "no compromise" in function and ruggedness. The Venu line is more like an activity watch that has had all of the topline features integrated. Including a great display. So it can be used for almost all of the same activities as the Fenix but it's lighter and cheaper. And it does a lot more than the lower echelon activity watches and you pay a mid level price because of that. And actually there has been convergence because there are no longer any distinctions between running and cycling watches. Your complaint is centered on the fact that all of the mid and high level watches can do just about anything and your choices boil down to details like display type and size, what kind of case you want and so forth. The question is what are you losing out on because of these changes?

    • @BeingandTiiime
      @BeingandTiiime ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely the venu 3 since the 265 doesn’t have maps and the updated health metrics on the venu 3 is now a lot better with the extra information it provides. The 265 (965, fenix, Epix, whatever) just offers the morning report which is great, but not venu 3 great. I’m on a 955 and even I am jealous of the venu 3’s updated health metrics.

    • @AeroEng123
      @AeroEng123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeingandTiiime That is the way I'm leaning right now. However, I think the Venue does not have some of the extra wrist based run dynamics, run power, etc. that is on the 265. It would be good to have all of these differences laid out in a comparison video.

      @@AeroEng123 If you're serious at all with running/cycling/hiking/etc., then the Forerunner is the way to go. I loved my Venu and Venu 2 in general, but just switched to the Forerunner (965) because I've been doing marathon, ultra marathon, and cycling events, and the Venu series doesn't give you the helpful training metrics like Training Readiness (acute/chronic load stats, recovery time, current readiness, etc.), aerobic/anaerobic metrics, and additional activities (no individual types of cycling or running like road/gravel/mountain biking or road/trail running) that the Forerunners have.

      Hey John! It doesn't have training load metrics like are found on the 265. While including those may take away from some 265 sales, I think that they actually try to have differentiation between Venus and Forerunners in some areas to keep some products more simplified and others more for the data hungry. Their revenue has increased sharply with the latest generation and they seem to be on course of asking at least 150 Euro on top of the Venu 2 for those features. I wish they made a Fenix watch that looked like this and had the voice function. The venu is lacking too many features for the price…and I want gps maps and Backcountry skiing mode. I guess Forerunner 965 is the best in between. Or AWU… but neither seems as rugged as a Fenix/Epix with sapphire glass. And Venus look great.

    Problem is that this costs 2x the Garmin Venu 2 price where I live, which still costs almost the same as it did approx. 2 years ago. Making the Venu 3 a completely other price category. Big NONO for an upgrade for me.

      Look at the Amazfit GTR 4. Crazy nice watch and offers allot of this for less then 200. Very highly rated budget watch that does not look or perform like a budget watch. Its a premium looking and performing device and a no brainer at the current price points which is far less then half of what they want for this Garmin.

    Good review. I don't get though how the Venu 3 is different enough from the Forerunner 265. And both are rather bad value compared to the Pace 3. I enjoy the Garmin ecosystem, it has many motivatiors. But I also feel like they increased their prices sharply over the past 12 months. Not gonna spend close to 500 Euro for a watch when the Pace 3 is HALF of that. I even prefer MIP screens to OLED (currently on an oled watch).

    Would be great to get a guide on a watch for getting fit, getting into running, or cycling as opposed to someone that's a seasoned runner for instance. what metrics do we really need? What can we safely ignore? Is training readiness really necessary for someone that's trying to get fit?

  • @abalem
    @abalem ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the review ! Can't wait for the comparison with the 265 now to decide which one to buy. I don't run, but I want to buy a watch for cycling. Which one would fit the bill better according to you ? Also, I didn't quite understand the last part about VO2 Max. Can you get it with the venu 3 or not ? Do you need a power meter ? Is there a difference on this side with the 265 ?

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Having a power meter is required to get a cycling VO2 max estimate but the Venu 3 does not calculate it, even though it can pair to those sensors. With the Forerunner 265/965 and Fenix/Epix, they will calculate it when paired with a power meter. The Venu 3 does still calculate a running VO2 max estimate though.

    • @abalem
      @abalem ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DesFit Thanks for the comprehensive answer, now I get, even if... I really don't get it. That's kind of crazy isn't it ? The Venu 3 can connect to a power meter, but then you can't get the VO2 max out of it ? Why ?

    • @sugonmaballs

    • @_baumi_
      @_baumi_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what's the usecase in your case? Like getting a call on the headset during the run, pausing the run to focus on the call, then resume the run when finished with the call? something like this? isn't this done by pause already?

    • @abhineeet
      @abhineeet ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@_baumi_ Biggest use case is hiking and biking. If I take a 1 hour min break at the summit of an out-and-back hike, I don't want Garmin to auto-save. Moreover, if the activity is paused or auto-paused. The GPS is still on and it's still eating battery.
      Same in case of biking, I recently participated in a 100km bike race, there were three rest stops where I stopped, and at one of them I had to stop for a bit longer for fixing something on the bike. Resume-later in these cases saves me battery and saves me from the imminent-autosave.
      I don't want multiple activities from a single hike or bike ride just because I took a pause. In case of running not so relevant at least for my use-case.
