    An older gentleman in the process of selling off a lot of his things offered to sell me his Hi Power MkIII because he knew that I'm a woman who likes to shoot. He sold it to me for only $400.00 brand new... it had never been shot! At the time, I didn't know what I had except I liked the way it felt in my hand and it shot like a dream. Like, literally, no jarring kick back, and the handle isn't overly chunky and clunky like a Glock in my smaller-than-a-man's-hand. I love that about this gun! Any woman looking for a full-size home defense 9MM, this is your gun. An ex-cop friend showed a ton of interest in this gun and offered to buy it from me. He is the one who actually educated me that the MkIII is a very sought-after gun. But I have no intention of ever parting with it so I don't really care about the value part of it. I agree that it is a superior 9mm.

      TheFireArmGuy The overall CZ design was pulled from the Hi Power. The internal frame rail design was borrowed from the Sig P210. Which was the first pistol to feature that type of slide to frame interface. The Soviets firearms often borrowed from other firearm designs. Just look at the Tokarev TT-33. It definitely took much of Browning's 1903 pistol design.
      Have a great weekend Dan!

    Great looking pistol! I love the Hi-Power, although I don't own a true Browning HP, I do have a FEG Hi-Power clone, and its a outstanding gun for the money. At gun shows they clones can be had for $200-$300 and they may not be as refined as a Browning, but the one I have works great! They are a cheap way to get into Hi-Powers and just like a 1911 you can upgrade them with higher end parts. Thanks for the vid.

So, I'll get it if he decides to opt out, they say he has history of doing so. If it's not the Hi-Power, then it'll be a S&W 4013.

      John Browning never saw a High Power. He died nearly nine years before it appeared. His Grande Rendement was a failure, and the project was shelved in 1925. When the Colt-owned patents expired, Dieudonne Saive was able to incorporate Browning's tilting barrel, locked breech design into the High Power.

    Last August I managed to get my hands on a "Hand Picked" surplus, Belgian Hi-Power. The best part? It only cost me $420 shipped. The trigger on it is amazing and it's an excellent shooter. I got some of those new magazines that hold 15 rounds and it works flawlessly with them.
    The only thing I don't like about it are the small and crude sights on it, still I shoot it quite well. It's in good shape overall, it does have some holster wear, supposedly is was carried by the Belgian Police. I am torn if I want to get it re-blued and have a custom pair of wood grips fitted to it, it has a lanyard stud so I need grips that are cut for that.
    I will have to see, I bought it because I wanted a Hi-Power without spending $900 for a new one. If I have to spend $300-$400 to get that done then I will leave it as is.
    By the way, how would I tell when my Hi-Power was made? Does an online resource exist that would help me figure that out.

    It was actually designed to hold more than thirteen as presented by Browning in the first place but was reduced to 13. Still a lot for the time. Mec Gar makes standard length 15rd mags which work fine.
    "Three dot sight" is a general term for front and rear sight systems which use three witness marks, be they round or elongated, like these, and so this is actually a three dot system.
    And he's right. This is one of the finest, if not the finest, 9mm semi-auto made which is why the British spec forces, along with many other military and LE troops around the world, swear by them. I saved a long time to get mine and I'll never sell it, even if I had to sell off the rest of my arsenal.

      Yep. Only made them at the Belgium factory. Apparently some European police forces still used that caliber in the 80's so it remained in the catalog. Same frame and magazine as the 9mm, but a different barrel and slide. Sent a pic to your Facebook page.

      The HP will probably not be fully replaced until 2023. There is a rumour they will sell off the remaining pistols to collectors. Also, it was made in Toronto, Ontario, not Quebec by the John Inglis company on Strachan Avenue. Estimates from the potential sale is $4 million dollars. Now if I could only buy my old FNC1!

    That magazine you show is a 10 rounder as opposed to a 13 rounder. The pistol's called a "Hi-Power" because it's 9mm Para-not because of its capacity...back in the '30s the 9mm was considered a powerful round.

    A pistol I love and hate . Its a great pistol , I hate it because I always get Bit by the slide and Hammer on the early Mdls . I had 4 of them .I always sell them because of the Bite .Watch your grip so you don't get the Bite .

      +TheFireArmGuy Replace that hammer with one of the round skeletonized hammers, and that will help tremendously with the hammer bite.

    I don't get it. Is the trigger amazing, is it semi custom in its fit and finish, do they not make many of them?

    • @TheFirearmGuy
      @TheFirearmGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tika Carr The trigger is not that amazing. The fit and finish is very nice but nothing like a quality 1911. I think much has to do with the fact its a Browning. I will be hitting the range soon for a better opinion

      +TheFireArmGuy The trigger on this gun is one of the best I've ever shot once the magazine disconnect is removed. If you don't make this modification, then the trigger is very heavy and even a little gritty.

    • @ElCineHefe
      @ElCineHefe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jamc204 - It's not a drain hole.
      That's the axis pin for the slide pinned sear transfer lever. It's the pivoting link between the trigger lever and the sear - part of the trigger to hammer firing system.

    • @jamc204
      @jamc204 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool. I appreciate the detailed info. Thanks.

    • @ElCineHefe
      @ElCineHefe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jamc204 - If you ever refinish your HP, you'll have to tap out that pin to remove that lever, along with the perpendicular pin that holds in the extractor & spring. All you need is a plastic mallet and the flat pin punches to hammer them out and back in again. It was really easy work with the right tools.

    That's a bucket list gun. I'm happy you got some range time with it. I still hope to get a chance to shoot one.
    I have a 9mm 1911 with a pile of 9mm Wilson Combat mags so I'll probably never be able to justify buying a Hi Power.

    Bob or replace with skeletal hammer, upgrade the sights, and remove the mag disconnect hazard device foisted on the design by the incompetent pre-war French military to make the HiPower the fantastic pistol it is capable of being.

    • @TheFirearmGuy
      @TheFirearmGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being they are discontinued, don't ya think they should be left original for future value?

    • @BTCAsia
      @BTCAsia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheFireArmGuy for a collector who has a NIB T series or a collectible one of historical note, fine. For somebody who wants to shoot, there are thousands of surplus trade-ins and clones in addition to hundreds of thousands of Mk IIIs that are not collectible. Also if we look at the FN owned brands (Browning, Winchester, Marlin), they frequently do new production runs of “discontinued” firearms. The wording of their “discontinued” notice even added “at this time” and I believe, with respect to inventory in supply chain, “for foreseeable future,” foreshadowing possible limited runs in the future. If somebody prefers to collect one, there are plenty of safe queens and to each their own. However, trying to preserve as original all the millions of HiPowers ever made?
      The HiPower is extremely capable and has great potential. I am more saddened by the idea few will ever realize that potential than I am an average used gun, identical to millions of others, might be modified.

    Not really. They are handsome and good if you have smallish hands, but that's about it. The stock triggers are horrible (Colonel Cooper wrote that if you ever find one with a good trigger-KEEP IT) and they are not designed to handle +p rounds or high pressure miltary rounds unless you have the heavier military contract slide model. Accuracy? No more accurate than a commercially made cheap 1911 clone. Even when you try shooting lead ball reduced vel ammo with a light recoil spring. For as much money as they want these are definitely overrated. Pretty and put together nice? Absolutely. But way too costly for what you get.
