Great video JoBlo!!! I own a graphic novel of Watchman (2nd printing if I recall correctly). I often feel like it gained popularity in graphic novel forms back in the late 80's. I also own the Watchman on DVD and I re-watch it every year or so. I'm too lazy to dig it out to confirm if it's the Directors Cut or not (I think it is). That "Complete Cut" with the added Black Freighter animated story in it...that definitely would be a gem in my DVD collection. I really liked that movie once I understood it. I saw it in theatres and then was like "wtf was that, especially the hallelujah song during the love-making scene", but I circled back it years later and now appreciate it for what it is. A great adaptation of an excellent comic novel.
I was 15 when the original Watchmen comic came out. It changed the way I think about authority figures, rules and even people in general. I know 15 is at time when things like that happen. But it shaped and influenced me in a way many other things were not. The movie, not so much. But I think it was a moment in time that you just could not capture on film so many years later.
I remember watching the 300 documentaries... when at the very end Frank Miller turned around and asked Snyder "so how're you gonna do Watchmen?" I almost fell over in my chair. Snyder's response "very carefully" got me excited beyond belief. The movie is quite an achievement, especially considering its budget, and surely way ahead of its time.

I remember being a teenager when this was released. I read the graphic novel like two years prior, then the movie was released. I actually snuck that thick graphic novel in my mom’s purse so I can follow along (so lame lol). And even as a teenager I was impressed at how closely the film reflected the graphic novel. Will always be my top ten favorites. Now, calming my mom down in the theatre, everytime they showed Dr. Manhattan’s manly parts is another story 😂. I just remember her shocked eyes followed by the “Raven wth do you have us watching”. My 9 yr old little brother was there too lmaoooo. She even left to see if there were another showing of a cartoon for them to leave and watch, but it was too late. We were at like a 10/11 o’clock showing 😂. Good times 🥲

I’m surprised you guys haven’t re-recorded the thank-you message. The sound quality is so bad for it, and I would think it would only take a second to re-record.
I didn't care for The Watchmen when I first saw it but after seeing it a few times I grew an appreciation for it. Now years later after seeing the film close to one hundred times The Watchmen is one of favorite films.
the movie ending improves upon the comic's ending. Space Vampires by Colon Wilson which 100% Alan Moore would've read because Colin Wilson, a fellow Englishman wrote a lot about the occult and wrote sci fi that Moore would like. My point is that Moore stole the ending so it loses the defense for me. Making the story involve a major character in the book's fate made a tighter story. It changed the story for the better because it was simpler and stronger. I always thought people would take samples of the alien and discover it was fake.
I thought Snyder did a great job adapting this story to film considering how complex the story is and also the length of time he was constrained too. Like Dune, I think this story would have been better split into parts or as a miniseries.
still enjoy watching this like it was my first time, same love i have for Man of Steel i bought the collectors edition when i was still collecting blurays.. circa 2009
Johnny barnard, tbh its not easy to digest for a casual viewer. it takes a minute to get used to it. the bluray is over 3hours. i was like "whew, chile"
I'll make simple for you. It misses the point of the book. Gone is the complexity, the subtlety, and nuance. In its place is what 10 year thinks watchmen should be because he did understand what little he and mostly looked at the pictures and said wow boobs.
@@marcusluera89 yeah, this is the typical Snyder hater criticism for the movie. Even if he had made it completely panel for panel, which he damn near did, you'd still find something wrong with it because your hate boner for Snyder is so strong. It doesn't "miss the point" at all. Thats just something snyder haters love to claim because they can't possibly admit Snyder did a good job, probably better than anyone else could have.
I watched The Watchmen on a 14-hour flight and it really helped kill the time and consider my place in the universe at 40,000 feet above the ocean. That intro drew me straight in, and even though it was HEAVILY edited for Etihad's standards, it totally worked. Edit: I got the Bluray later and wowzaa there's some mature scenes that were not included in the Muslim-approved In Flight Entertainment version which was SO chaste by comparison. The blue guy had underpants.
The watchmen is a master piece. Using the intro to give us some history and some character building was genius! The no name actors didn't bother me because the story was more compelling than the actors. I still consider the Watchmen to be the best super hero movie to date. A somewhat original script, very little super heroesque feats of strength and the most detestable character to remind us what truth is. Sure the Marvel films are great but for the most part they follow the comics.
I am glad a lot of people enjoy this adaption. Personally, as someone who watched it when they were 15, again every few years, and have read the book multiple times, I can't stand this adaption. It is such a surface level understanding of watchman. Ignore the squid, focus on the fact that the heroes look cool. Ignore that they are superhuman, even though a big point in watchman is that no one has superpowers other than Dr. Manhatten. The slow motion, the dark colors that really ruin the orignals great coloring evocative of the Era. The fact that Adrian has no ambiguity. He is completely evil from the beginning, Snyder frames him like a devil from an overly dramatic opera. I do admire the movie technically, and the fact that Snyder adapted something meant to be impossible to adapt. But I really wish there was more nuance.
I love Watchmen. I like the movies adaption of Dr Manhattan's power being the antithesis for peace instead of the space octopus, I always thought that was lame.
@@andremaurizzio9130 what? Instead of a super abstract villain from space for the governments to band together against they made it into dr Manhattan. It makes total sense.

Chico, it was veeeery niche at the time.to this day in real life i know only one person other than myself that's a fan. the tv adaptation was equally stellar. and it put Juneteenth on the national Map .
If it wasn't for this film there wouldn't be The Boys and Invincible tv shows
One of my favorites. I’m buying the ultimate edition right now!
Loved Watchmen on release. Still love revisiting. The dark tone was great and would love to see more like it.
Great video. I haven’t watched Watchmen in many years…probably should revisit it :)
Also: In the audio of the video itself, I heard many T’s and P’s being overly loud…you better check that pop-filter…
i simply loved the movie... no preconceptions.. no overblown expectations...
and really enjoyed it/ watch it on Blu ray regularly... maybe its NOT a "Gold Standard" for adaptations from Comics ???
dont care.. i kick back, and just let it play.. and love it.
Great film . It was done really well and shows how talented Zack Snyder is as a director.
Who liked that outstanding fight scene at the beginning of the film .
I think its beautiful one of the best comic book movies ever made
One of my favorite films of the last 20 years, it was released at the wrong time, hence it lack of success in the box office; nevertheless, it’s an amazing underrated film… love the graphic novel, also.
Haha
I’m surprised you guys haven’t re-recorded the thank-you message. The sound quality is so bad for it, and I would think it would only take a second to re-record.
I'd still like to see *_Watchmen_* adapted as a twelve-hour miniseries. That would be its ideal form of adaptation.
funny that HBO totally screwed up that goal by doing a woke adaptation that everyone thought sucked
@@nuckygulliver9607
Clearly not everyone. Show was better received than the average comic book tv show
I really like this movie. I know the ending was changed but I love smoking, Drinking and watching the extended cut.
I didn't care for The Watchmen when I first saw it but after seeing it a few times I grew an appreciation for it. Now years later after seeing the film close to one hundred times The Watchmen is one of favorite films.
Absolutely loved this story, loved the movie, disappointed in the change to the ending, but I still think its a must watch.
Not only a must watch, but a good re-watchable one too... However, I do think the ending, where "evil" prevails, fits the movie's theme.
@@julcaos yeah I hear ya. I'm just a bigger fan of uniting against aliens
the movie ending improves upon the comic's ending.
This is one of my all time favourite films
The movie is perfect. I'm glad it went the way it did.
Such an amazing film that only seems to get better with time.
I had very mixed feelings about the theatrical cut but I liked the Ultimate Cut so much more!
Tom Cruise as Ozymandias would have been crazy cool
I watched it over and over, love the movie, love the parallel reality and sarcasm, cinematography and music choices!
I watched it when i was 10. It's one of my unforgettable guilty pleasures of my lifetime
8:58 One of the earliest uses of motion capture? You sure about that?
The ending with explosion instead of squid was in Hayter's scrip btw
I thought Snyder did a great job adapting this story to film considering how complex the story is and also the length of time he was constrained too. Like Dune, I think this story would have been better split into parts or as a miniseries.
I strongly recommend the HBO show. It beautifully expands on the IP and is one of the greatest miniseries I've ever seen period.
Really good videos but please get a pop filter on your microphone...
Absolutely loved Watchmen. Definitely a must own DVD.
Love that movie, I've had the graphic novel for decades
I think watchmen is one of my favourite film ever love it !
still enjoy watching this like it was my first time, same love i have for Man of Steel
i bought the collectors edition when i was still collecting blurays.. circa 2009
Alot of people hate on this movie but I dont get why, this is one of my favorite snyder films. Now the HBO show sucks, that deserves the hate.
Johnny barnard, tbh its not easy to digest for a casual viewer. it takes a minute to get used to it. the bluray is over 3hours. i was like "whew, chile"
@@PHlophe that's not it.
The Ultimate Cut is the only way to watch this masterpiece.
Love these videos!
Nice job!
LOVE this movie.
@Erik Kemeey that's cool. I hope you enjoy the movie. I don't, but I know a lot of people who do.
So what you're saying is that Snyder should direct (without studio interference) a silent hill or resident evil movie
I would love to see Scott Derrickson do Silent Hill.
Its a great film that stands up to repeat viewing. the directors cu is my benchmark blu ray equipment test disc
I love Watchmen. I like the movies adaption of Dr Manhattan's power being the antithesis for peace instead of the space octopus, I always thought that was lame.
the plot of the movie doesnt make any sense without the space octopus!!
@@andremaurizzio9130 what? Instead of a super abstract villain from space for the governments to band together against they made it into dr Manhattan. It makes total sense.
Best duper heroes film, and just a great film in general. Loved it.
Zack Snyder is so underrated and doesn’t get the praise he deserves for filming Watchmen. It’s not perfect, of course it’s not, but it’s a great film and an achievement none the less.
Normally I would’ve chewed you out, because I’m so sick of hearing “underrated.” People overuse it and throw it around too much. Not to mention they falsely use it. But you’re right, this actually was an underrated movie
Zack's Watchmen is to the comic what Lynch's Dune was to the book.
So bad ?
Who knew the film production would live by the words of Rorschach. (Sp)
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon.
I dunno, I fucking loved this movie from the first time I watched it. I had no idea about the graphic novel until my brother informed me the movie was based off the novel. Being a big fan of The Bad News Bears, I was excited to see “Kelly Leak” play Rorschach. 🤷🏽♂️
I absolutely loved the movie adaptation. It really respected the characters.
It still has one of the best movie intros ever too
I first read the graphic novel of Watchmen a couple of weeks before the movie came out. Boy, was that a slog of a read! I barely could get through it in time for the movie. Went with a couple of my friends to see it opening weekend. Loved it. I like Zack Snyder as a director. I watch the Director's Cut every so often still. Jackie is too good in that movie! I even love the Watchmen show. I just like this sort of anti-hero world overall.
An underrated master piece.
Snyder did good with this one. Still holds up today but can’t help but wonder what a Gilliam helmed film would have been like.
I love this movie. I remember the first time I heard about it. I was 9, and I saw the trailer with the smashing pumpkins song on the dark knight dvd. and I wanted to see it so bad until I finally watched it when I was around 15. It’s probably my favorite superhero film. P.S. I haven’t read the graphic novel, so I don’t care about accuracy to the source material. I honestly prefer Ozymandias plan in the movie over he’s giant squid plan in the gn.
I think Tom Cruise as Ozymandias could have been awesome
But that would’ve been too expensive, Tom Cruise is one of the biggest stars ever
Michael Fassnender would've good as Ozymandias.
Release the “Squid Cut!”
