    This oil is an infused oil: Essential oils are highly concentrated, while infused oils are much more mild. Essential oils are so powerful that they should almost never be applied directly to the skin, but rather diluted in a carrier oil. Infused oils, on the other hand, are gentle enough to be used on bare skin.

      What’s a double boiler?

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's when you put a pot in a pot kind of set up...so the product is not in too much direct contact with the heat.

    Thank you for sharing! Nice video... beautiful and relaxing music, calmly presented, with clear instructions. Can i leave the lavender in the oil much longer for cold process soap making? Can the same process be used for other flowers like rose petals, gardenia, Jasmine, etc...

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once you've made your lavender oil, then use it for recipe in soap making. I believe you can use this process for different flowers as well but perhaps you can look it up.

    I love this. Something that I learned is to use a double boiler instead of putting it directly into the pot. Keeps the oil from burning. I didn't know about adding Salt when I crush my Lavender. I'm going to try that. Thanks. Also was the Lavender fresh or dried?

    a couple questions,
    what other oils can you use to put in with the lavender? i dont have olive oil.
    do you have to leave it for 5 hours? that's such a long long time that i dont have.
    and what else can you use, rose petals? eucalyptus? chamomile?

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truthfully I left mine on the stove for 4 hours but five is best. You can also do the no stove version. That is when you make the oil a d leave it for 7 to 10 days...or longer. You can use any carrier oil you like, like coconut oil, almond oil. When you make anything you can always replace this for that. Dont choose a carrier oil with a strong scent or you wont get the benefit of the lavender scent. There are tons of recipes online. Just Google: infused lavender oil recipes

    This is an infused oil not an essential oil. However, cooking it is never done you will lose most of the floral scents. Best is to let it soak in a jar for a couple months. Essential oils and infused oils are completely different.

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It never occurred to me to sterilize the bottles with alcohol, genius. 90% rubbing alcohol should do I think. My lavender is about to bloom, and my roses are full of fragrant flowers. I may have to try this with rose petals this weekend. It was serendipity TH-cam recommended this video. It’s a good technique to know in this upcoming shortage and potential civil war brewing here in the states. Have a beautiful day, Susan❤️.

    Hello maam ...can i ask question ...no expiration and long lasting ?

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The answer is different for different oils, because they all have different chemical compositions. Most will last at least two years before starting to degrade, unless they contain one of the unstable carrier oils. Some can last for as long as 15 years without losing their effectiveness.
      Many experts advise replacing essential oils every three years to be safe. The exceptions are patchouli, ylang ylang, vetiver and sandalwood because they actually improve as they age. But three years is on the short end of the lifespan scale for some other essentials.

    These aren't essential oils, these are infused oils. Essential oils are 100% pure oil of the plant only, not other oils mixed in. Essential oils are much tronger & ha e a lots more benefits. The video title is very deceiving and I hope no one is trying to sell these as they will ha e a lawsuit on their hands.

    • @slowlivingjane
      @slowlivingjane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Adie, thanks for joining the community.
      I never really thought about the quantities but the amounts will vary depending on the size of the glass jar or container that is used. I just pretty much wing a recipe like this. So for example if you fill a whole Mason jar of lavender, just put enough oil that oil the lavender is covered. ( immersed in the oil). Hope that helps. Are you going to try it? Good luck. It smells soooo nice
