    Just wanna say thank you for sharing!, but the result is not called essential oil. Any carrier oil infused with herbs or plants is called an infused oil or herbal oil. Yours would be Lavender infused Avocado oil to be exact. This kind of oil might contain less than 1% essential oil from the plants.

      @noahshort8514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yes that’s what I was about to say. I wonder if it still have medicinal properties. Also you really want to have dried flowers as the moisture in the plant matter will turn the oil rancid in a matter of weeks

    • @ad-wk2sc
      @ad-wk2sc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@noahshort8514 Yes! The infused oil will also have medicinal properties! It's not only the essential oil in the plant that have medicial properties, there are properties that aren't carried over when steam-distilled, and they also have great properties. I'm not sure exactly what because I'm not an herbal expert, but at least the aroma is still a good "aroma"therapy eventhough it won't be as strong as the essential oil since it is more concentrated.

      Thank you for your great ideas. I have some dried lavender that I use to make lavender simple syrup for drinks, and am going to try to make an infusion with it now. A little something something to make my weekly hot soak in the tub more enjoyable and relaxing!

      @@noahshort8514 The moisture of the plants will disappear while cooking it. This is why I cook my Garlic oil. Afterwards it is stable to store without fridge. The problem is to ajust the heat, because you don´t want burn the plants or destroy the good cold pressed carier oil... So better don´t do it directly in a pot. Use a slow cooker or a jar inside of hot water. Watch the process closely. It is also not necessary to heat it for 6 hours. You can heat it for some minutes and then just let it sit in a jar for 2 days, than strain and filter it.

    Essential oils are done through distillation. The proper term for this process is the “fast method” for an infusion. Typically one infuses oil from 4-6 weeks. You also need to explain the sanitation of your jar and lid. You cannot exchange the term essential oil with infused oil. They totally different processes.

    Just bought an Enfusium 420 for infusions and a Vevor 50l Distiller for the essential oils themselves, seems pretty complex. Someone commented that heat can degradation quality, thank you for the tip. Anyone else use these two pieces if equipment? I haven't done it yet cause I'm trying to learn first. I have leukemia and am hoping my Italian oregano and rosemary can help with symptoms.

  • @sukleijn.
    @sukleijn. ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Hi, thanks for sharing. I would like to comment on this process; essential oils are very sensitive to heat and most of them evaporate or degrade over 45-50 C degrees. If you boil them or even heat over 50 degrees, you do not have any essential oils in the mixture anymore. If you would like to give it a try, traditional way is to infuse without heating, just putting the buds and oil in a jar 4-6 weeks in a cool dark place, it will be a potent infused oil without degredation. Quicker way is to put the jar under sunlight, maybe in front of a kitchen window for a couple of days and then a week in a cool place, you will get also good results. Just be sure not more than a couple of days under direct sunlight, and never boil :)
