I know this video is 4 yrs old but im building a project and now im at the driveshaft part. I really like how BustedKnuckle responds the the "I balance driveshafts" comments like "NO THANX WE GOT THIS" lol. Anyways im building a 93 ford ranger with 8" of lift, raptor fiberglass, 15x14 with 35s, om603 diesel (2jz diesel), nv3550 np231, ford 8.8, dana 35/44 hybrid. Oh and its no longer Left Hand Drive, i put everything in the passenger area and made it RHD on the stock ranger firewall. I really appreciate all the guys like busted knuckle that build it instead of buying it. And then u pretty much tell the ppl make a living doing the stuff u show us, NO THANX WE GOT THIS. I SCROLLED THRU AND SAW 2 OR 3 PPL SAYING WE CAN BALANCE THIS FOR U AND UR LIKE "NAH THE DRIVESHAFT IS RUNNING FINE" Ill prolly get mine cut and then send it to a shop to be trued and welded because i need to make my truck basically a civilian army truck that can survive a EMP. Which is why i went with a mechanical turbo diesel engine. Anyways im also the only person in the entire USA with a RHD swapped ranger. I built it for when WW3 starts but i also made it RHD so i could do MailMan stuff should WW3 be on pause.
Guys run “trued” shafts in ultra 4 all the time with speeds around 100mph. Their tires are beadlocks that are not balanced. Some with solid mounted driveshafts. The point is, if your tires are bouncing or your not running on a smooth surface , there is no reason to balance the shaft. True it up and let er eat!
Measure twice cut once. Lol Dodge needs to beef up the driveshafts on their Hell Cats to something stocky like these. There’s videos of them dumping driveshafts everywhere. They really did their homework. 🤦🏼♂️ Thanks for sharing guys. 🇺🇸
awesome vid, learned a few things, im gonna have to extend my dentside bronco driveshaft pretty damn soon and I wouldve fucked up the welds for sure without this vid.
Vibrates at 70mph? Does it smooth out at 80? Haha! I built a schedule 80 1410 driveshaft and it was a complete miracle. No vibration at all and I beat on it for years! Thanks for the video.
Lol yeah the one you built in this video is way nicer than any driveshaft I’ve ever seen come out of an actual driveshaft shop. I’m sure it would balance out good.
I'm willing to bet if I put one of those on my balance machine it would need some weight, especially with the rpm you're running them at I'm surprised you're not having at least some vibration issues. props on the Spicer parts, I sell tons of the stuff
those are some amazing tig welds, did have a question which you may have covered in an earlier video but im a new subscriber, when placing your trailing arms/transfer case, do you have the flange/yoke as close to center of the hing point or does it matter to much as long as it is not excessive?
Theres a shop here called HARRIS OFFROAD but he will not help ppl or build anything he doesnt like. Its frustrating but i figure if i can stick a diesel in a ranger, if i can RHD swap it, i can do a driveshaft.
with custom built suspension the right way there isn't much rotation of the pinion of the axle so they don't get put in much of a bind. that being said these parts can take a lot of angle
About balancing: You have a lathe. Spin it up, stick a soap stone near it, work it in until it rubs and makes a mark, put weights opposite the mark? Drill out mass from the center of the mark if on a meaty bit? No? I guess you would know better than I. I know this involves liability and risk in claiming "balanced". Would it help? Is there a better way? How does one balance a drive shaft? A special stress-proof or sch 80 seamless pipe that's internally machined and spec'ed? 4130? Now you've only managed to pique my curiosity on this dammit.
Awesome stuff! I need to do a 2 piece drive shaft on the front of my jeep (np205/4l80e) do you have any recommendations on carrier bearings or want to do a video on them?
I can't find any videos about flex disc overriding By that I mean get longer bolts turn the shzft and defeat the flex coupler Do it's bolted direct and no longer stretches and wears ou I filled in the shzft hanger mount with urethane So it's sold I filled in the transmission Mount and motor mounts on w115 Diesel mercedes. It only has 68HP so who needs alot if flex.my research shows they make al, the mounts flex so it all rips apart in a crash. But it's 48 years old. Now. Thesedays it is a tank all the big cars are gone..all American cars had no flex couplings and drove just fine. I'm going to try the 3 .pager bolts and do without the flex disc. Have you ever done that turn the shaft and bolt the 3 holes only even keeping the old disc it's just direct now. With 3 empty holes changing the euro car to gm style .

This channel is a hidden gem 💎
Thanks!
I was so stoked to build a diy drive shaft for my daily prerunner! You crushed my fab spirit at the end 😂 all I do is 80mph everywhere 😂
you can build it and have it balanced

Log awaited this video from you well done ! Thank for your knowledge
Thanks for tuning in!
Hey! I was there when y'all were filming this lol. Thanks for those heim joints and .120 dom tubing
Thanks for stopping by!
Great info Thanks! Absolutely love the smell of argon gas! just thought I would share that.
gotta love that welding sound and smell
Excelente trabajó 💪🏻💪🏻saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱

Really? I wasn't aware of that. I guess 700hp is tough on them

Thanks Jake!!
He knows his stuff
Your welcome jeff

glad to help!
wow, Amazing..... inspiring videos...!
Glad you like them!
What was the full bump length of that DL?
Your videos sure are helpful
Glad to hear that
Pretty slick guys
HD
thank you nice skill
Welcome 😊

You could have the balanced, we just dont do that
Lol yeah the one you built in this video is way nicer than any driveshaft I’ve ever seen come out of an actual driveshaft shop. I’m sure it would balance out good.
We might need to look into balancing them and sell some to jeep owners
Yeah those 3.8s are a powerhouse.
I need an LS swap in my life
Say you're right heavy duty for sure
gotta be!
Love the vids
Thanks!

No issues so far.
Need one for.My diesel 7.3 😮

I'll check with Jake on that.
Awesome... Are you guys using 4130, or mild DOM? Remind people to "remove the u joints" before final welding
DOM
These probably would look good under the yellow Jeep XJ from "Matt's Offroad Recovery"... ; ) Do you do sponsorships? xD
These might be a little overkill for an XJ.
Muito massa.
Vários projetos de primeira 👊
Good information. How do they last getting bashed on the rocks?
Everything has it's breaking point but so far no issues out of these. Zero Failures
Do you have a full axle build video?
that is coming up next
Theres a shop here called HARRIS OFFROAD but he will not help ppl or build anything he doesnt like. Its frustrating but i figure if i can stick a diesel in a ranger, if i can RHD swap it, i can do a driveshaft.
With the right parts it isn’t bad
Interesting 😀 What kind of angles are you guys working with?
with custom built suspension the right way there isn't much rotation of the pinion of the axle so they don't get put in much of a bind. that being said these parts can take a lot of angle
What welder do you tig with. They are not equal. It does sound fancy to say tig welded. But I tig with mine and it will probably break
Nothing fancy
OK just asking way didn't you balance the driveshaft?
Most off road rigs don't need balancing. The fitment of these also makes for very little run out or need for balancing.
I custom fabricate and balance driveshafts for light medium and heavy duty trucks and agricultural uses. If you have any questions feel free to ask
we got it pretty much down
I mud dragged in the 80's... Never had any problems with ujoints..used nothing but spicer...
Rock Bouncing requires a super strong driveshaft
you aint putting a fuckton of shock to the joints like street drag racing or rock bouncing.
@jake burkey Any info/specs on that chassis?
You can check out our production chassis at www.BustedKnuckleOffRoad.com
Where can I get a flange conversion for a 14 bolt ff rear end??
We sell those too www.bustedknuckleoffroad.com
Inherently or inevitably.
yes

There are machines that balance them, it's just not necessary for what we do.
Awesome stuff! I need to do a 2 piece drive shaft on the front of my jeep (np205/4l80e) do you have any recommendations on carrier bearings or want to do a video on them?
67dueceman yes sir, go to bustedknuckleoffroad.com and click on the driveshaft parts tab
what he said.
Where's the link?
link?
For the drive shaft kit
Transfer case brakes! Please tell me your building transfer case brakes, I hope that disk I seen isn’t just a park brake, tell me more please...
Tcase brakes for the win!
Why did you measure at full droop, when you just built it collapsed anyway?
tommyguns14able to make sure the driveshaft is long enough to handle the amount of shaft slip
Don't want your driveshaft to pull out on you on the trails
@@BustedKnuckleVideo cool story bro. All that bullshit talk about vibrations due to timing. I guarantee your shit has 20 thou runout all day.
@@bustedknuckleoffroadllc5060 and if it didn't,then what?
tommyguns14able TROLLING 😂🤣 find another place to be a douche.
It’s A prop shaft not a drive shaft
How do you figure that?
11 minutes comercial.
infomercial
or you can build one out of carbon fiber and forget most of that crap :D
That would never last in a Rock Bouncer
Lol let's build a flux capacitor to and put that on the boulders LOL
Maklarus Trinity

never heard of that setup
