I love how he pronounces pytt i panna, sounds wonderful xD Big thumbs up from Sweden :)
Don´t forget the pickled beetroots!! :P
And the salted, pickled cucumber!
And I fry the egg and eat it with HP sauce :P
Jamie lad, you forgot the essential pickled beetroot. Otherwise that was the best "Pytt i panna" I think I have seen.
Ganska skumt med dressing och "pickled gherkins", dock.
Och så brukar det inte vara riktigt så svårt att hitta potatisen och löken i pytten...
Aaaah and the perfect weather outside as well...
What kind of "typical Swedish home" casually pulls out elk salami, lamb and a humongous bacon thingy from their fridge because they had some "left-overs"? Who the hell even has all of that at the same time? Per Morberg? Leif Mannerström? The royal bloody family? Grandma after christmas eve?
+Paulina Sjödin Everyone ofcourse, you're the abnormal one.
Oh.
He is actually not doing pyttipanna. He is doing another dish called "Biff Rydberg" wich is close to it. Pyttipanna is usually only used with pork meat, and is served with a fried egg and beatroots.
no ! pyttipanna är verkligen vad han gör, rester i en stekpanna... gör om gör rätt
To me that looks more like a "Biff Rydberg" .. :) Pretty common to mix those two up..
Bifg Rydberg has bigger dices and bits.
Well, there is an argument about that. Pytt being the word that means small pieces according to some etc. Well, doesn't really matter since his show is not about finer points in etymologi but rather about cooking :)
As a Swedish, I can promise you that it's a good hangover meal
Det där var nog den mest trimmade pytt i panna jag någonsin skådat ^^
I didnt know that "Pytt i Panna" was a very swedish dish ... well nice to know. But just a note, to pass the ball over to england again ;) I know many (and my self) who say that "worcestershire sauce" is a prefect combo with "Pytt i Panna". As a dressing (to stop the frying) and to add after as extra spices. I Love it. It actually give it a taste of "Sheppards Pie".
Just a tip. :)
'... that basically uses up leftovers... smoked bacon, elk salami, smoked sausage, leftover meat.' -Not in my fridge. Can you customise this recipe to use half a bowl of stale pasta and a variety of salad dressings and brown sauce packets ?
in Sweden we use real leftovers.... like chopped up boiled potatoes and leftover meatballs/meatloaf. YUM!
Michelle
and an fried egg or two on the side
Un, dos, tres un pasito pa'delante maria
Swedish pytt i panna with salami... a new one! ;)
It's not just beet roots guys, it's pickled beet roots!
Pytt i Panna with pickled red beets and a fried egg.
I agree 100%
"Pytt i panna" doesn't exactly means "small pieces". The origin is a bit debated. Some say that the word "pytt" means "small pieces", so "Pytt i panna" would mean "small pieces in a pan". Others say that "pytt" comes from the word "putta" which means "to knudge or push", which would refer to the fact that you push the small pieces of food of the cutting board into the pan.
It is much more like a dish called "Biff Rydberg" and not pyttipanna.
With pickled sliced beetroots, a yolk of egg in its half shell and a slatt of dijon mustard. Decorate with minced parsley.
HP Sauce, pickled beets and a fried egg topped with tabasco. That's go goes best with pyttipanna.
As someone below wrote, it is more a Biff Rydberg than a Pytt i panna, but who cares. Jamie makes his own version and it is for sure good. He is a chef, not a Swede that have ketchup to everything haha
Where is the clip of when Jamie did a Korv Stroganoff and had dill in it?
"Elk salami pretty normal out here"
yea right...
I can agree that we swedes put ketchup on a lot of things, but not on this one. It's more usual to use beetroot than ketchup.
I fry my egg and eat it on the side with either ketchup or HP sauce :D
Beet roots and fried eggs to it delicous!
No ketchup ruin it, I almost always see beetroot with it. The only people I know that use ketchup with Pytt i Panna is usually picky about food in general.
Nobody is expecting him to pronounce foreign words perfectly, but that's is no reason to not have a bit of fun with it. :)
he did
I'd prefer Rödbetssallad but hey, everyone has their own preferences.
Usually? I've yet to encounter anyone who does that!
brisket is pretty expensive in sweden
Lingonberry jam to Everything!
Pytt i Panna means "small pieces" ? Im swedish and i did not know that.. Its actually the word "pytt" i dont know.. maybe its a swedish slang for something?
Pytt = pytteliten aldrig hört det uttalet?
It's pretty normal in Skåne at least :>
It actually means "Mix in a pan" so leftover mix, not small pieces.
nah, pytt=small
Vem har ketchup på pyttipanna?
Beetroot =D! It's brilliant to Pyttipanna =D!
Thumbs up if you got some Pytt i Panna in the fridge/freezer :)
alltid felix pytt i panna när farsan lagar mat... :D
He should've added an egg to that :D
He adds a raw egg to it. Did you not see the whole video?
You simply can't eat Pytt i panna without beetroots. It's absolutely delicious.
Yes you can.
ÅH KETCHUP FYFAN VA GOTT, brb ska dra en sväng till ica.
Welcome to Gothenburg - home of sea food!
Haha. Try to go to Thailand, or Spain or... there you get a lot of seafood!
HP sauce ska det vara! :)
Väldigt svenskt haha ;) Rödbetor är bättre!
to pytt i panna may of us swedes use red beets to it and fried eggs it is haven
Not me, ketchup on that is for teenagers usually. :P
I know, I'm Swedish myself.
you forgot rodbetorna
WAY TO GO JAMIE,LOOKS DELISH.
compared to chuck or other tough cuts
swedes love pyttipanna with ketchup
Yes to many. I. add the egg and the beetroot, some salt and white pepper, that is my way
0:07 :D
Smoked large piece of Pork Belly, Elk Salami, Smoked Sausage and Brisket from lamb. "its all everyday things"?... and who has that as leftovers? I know he wants to do his own version just because of the camera but hey, dont put a mustard vinaigrette over the dish.
06:10 :))
pOttipanna ahhaha
Det är säkert lokal skillnad, vi har rödbetor till och ingen ketchup..
he should've added lingonsylt though
Pro Tip - Never order Pytt i Panna from _any_ kind of restaurant in Sweden. Common sense should tell you this, but really. They _will_ have put "anything" in it. Leftovers from people's plates yesterday? Go right ahead. Oh, some beef that's been in the fridge for oooh, a week or two? No one will notice.
There's a reason everything gets chopped up like that, you know. =)
Compared to what?
i would love to see like food for a month by only spending 2000kr or SEK in the swedish currency becuse i always run out of ideas on how to cook healthy food in that price range becuse i can never spend allot of money to eat healthy so i have to buy super cheap and crappy sosages and burgers ready to fry and stuff like that so to buy everything fresh and make it last for a month is like 4000kr and i dont have that sort of money to spend...
2000kr will get you money for almost two month if your a girl or atleast 1 month and a half. Just moved away from home? things get cheaper with experience and when basic groceries are stocked upp (spices, flour etc etc)
I eat healthy and delicous food and have around 1500kr a month and that is well enough; even som extra money.
well shit is expensive in the town i live in sadly and i dont live alone i got a gf and no im not a girl hehe
Rc Addict I don't know where you live or what situation you are dealing with. But i do my monthly food shopping for myself and my wife for 2500SEK a month.
I am basing this off Stockholm which i believe has the highest prices for food.
So, every month i make myself 20 Pasties and freeze them Just do a google for English Pasties. 20 of those cost me around 400kr. That includes Smördeg/Meat/Veg. When we dont have leftover for lunch we put one of those in the microwave and have one of those, they are brilliant.
All my Meat shopping is done at an Immigrant store. We get Beef at 59kr/kg. Köttfärd at 30kr/kg Pork at 49kr/kg and Goat at 49kr/kg. If you learn to cook these meats, and use leftover correctly they will rapidly shift your money spent each month.
Make Rice dishes, and pasta dishes. Bolognese and pasta gratain is easy to make and uses a 10kr tin of Krosserad tomatos. Just grab some spices from ICA every 2-3 months and you are golden.
The key is not getting frozen pizzas/burgers etc etc, you actually need to cook your own food to do it.
Jag har rödbetor OCH ketchup.
Sweden uses more ketchup in the whole world, 22 liters per person
Not fried eggs!
Never!
What? Who the fuck uses ketchup to pytt i panna? Beet roots and fried eggs.
ewww x.x whats wrong with Swedes, Lingonberry jam to that? x.x
hahaha! small pieces ?! well thats not the correct translation...
Soffpotatisen väg..
... no we dont.
only teens do that
Kids now days in sweden they destory all the food they got with ketchup, sadly.
morötter istället för potatis? haha vilken nub! krögarpytt ftw!
hörru joe labero, sluta trolla.
That's a lot of meat Jamie, I like it.
"Putt i panna"
Haha it's PYTT i panna, and it's disgusting and doesn't mean "Small pieces" lol.
Vad är det för fel på pytt i panna? Du är säkert bortskämd och gillar bara några få rätter. Trist för dig.
That's disturbing.
its not realy that uncommon
That's bullshit. What kind of restaurants have you worked at? The local greasy spoon or pizzeria? Leftovers from peoples plates?? Come on, what professional chef in his right mind would do that?
No pytt i panna looks like that in sweden and they taste like shit xd
Maybe you should cook your own instead of buying shit in a frozen bag.
Moerdarsnigel The classic pytt i panna which we cook doesn't look like that either.... I never said that that one was bad... We often make if from the leftorvers we have, like hotdogs and maybe some leftover meat.
customlegokarl U think it looks like the classic pytt i panna which u buy? Try glasses m8
customlegokarl Not the ones I've eaten
customlegokarl Ja, rätten borde kanske rimligen döpas om till "valfri skit i stekpanna" :p
