Thank you very much for this video instruction, I have one of the gx80 cameras and I decided to try to make a streaming camera out of it. Unfortunately, connecting the camera to my computer via HDMI to USB 3.0 adapter it doesn't appear in the list of devices, so I can't add it to OBS. Testing the adapter, I tried to connect several different displays and they immediately start to work. Maybe I missed something, or any additional drivers are needed?
Really good video. I use a Panasonic Lumix g-80 but when i connect the camera into my pc (with card capture device) my rec is really bad. I already have lights and a "streaming" look like but i think the problems are the camera settings. I see in the background like "sand" and it ruins everything. Any suggestions? i'm kinda newby with cams so probably i'm missing something.
Interesting and smart setup Joe. I have just a Lumix GX85 doing nothing right now so I can prepare this setup for my daily Teams conferences. Thanks for sharing
Great video! Thank you. I live in the US, so it will be NTSC (Never The Same Color twice) and the GX85. I have got to try this! I already have some lights and m4/3 lenses, so I'm most of the way there. Now I just need to come up with some content. 🙂
i can't decide if i need this cam or sony a6000, cuz i deffo like panasonic sharpness and the picture itself more but i think the crop factor on it gonna ruin everything since i want a wide angle as in sony... what should i do :
There are plenty of ultrawides for MFT, such as the lovely Samyang 7.5mm fisheye, which I use from time to time, but also lenses from Laowa and other manufacturers.
I am not a camera technician but I would try a different cable. Maybe it's that or maybe the HDMI output is broken. Seems lile the connection keeps getting interrupted by either a faulty cable, output or input.
Thank you! I actually recorded my first 3 videos on TH-cam using OBS, and it was pretty fun. th-cam.com/video/KAb6Q3GLJGM/w-d-xo.html For this 1st video, I tested and tested each camera setting and the color settings in OBS and think the color came out looking pretty realistic, but I didn't document the settings and the next two videos I did had oversaturated color, and didn't look natural. I think the color (and tonal rendering etc.) can be different for each HDMI capture card as well, and even the ATEM Mini is not perfect. An inexpensive one I really liked is noonger available as well😆
Yeah, I remember watching that video. Cool stuff! It's a super neat and fast setup but like you said, colors are harder to get right than with an NLE. But it's so convenient once it's set up.
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Hey! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch my videos! I think it was one of the things that inspired me to start making "lens-sensor-specific LUTs" and camera settings recommendations (which I now save on my website, so I don't forget what I did, etc.) If I remember correctly, I was getting more natural color when it was set to "partial" in OBS settings, and it really varies with each HDMI device as well. I now have an ATEM Mini ($300 version with no recording options) and I find the color is pretty good, but it does change it a bit as it goes through HDMI...and I heard OBS can now load LUTs!😃
Got a gx80 on ebay for just 80€ today. Well the display doesn't work but I only plan on using it as a stream cam so I don't really care about that aaaaand I could change the screen if I wanted to then I would come to a total of 200€ with the new screen but lets see
Hello Joe, once again a great video, thanks a lot! It's great to hear that you can use the gx80 as a webcam. Can you shoot videos in 4k 25p or 50p? Would you recommend buying a gx80 or a gx85?
Thank you! You can shoot 4k25p, but 50p is 1080 only. Since I happily use mine quite a lot I can certainly recommend it. You can switch between the GX80 or GX85 by hacking the firmware. If you live in an NTSC country or shoot 30p I would buy the GX85. I have the GX80 since it shoots 25p natively.
It's a dummy battery to usb adapter. Just type "GX80 dummy usb" on Amazon and you get a ton of results. I just bought one of these generic ones that adapt that tiny dc connector to usb and it works fine.
Haha, no the opposite. Manual focus (since I am not really changing my position and the AF on the GX80 is really not that good) and 25p for a more cinematic framerate.
I am just waiting for my micro HDMI cable to arrive but so far I have everyone else set up. I want to use the camera for live-streaming so no recording but I was wondering if I need an independent software package to make it work. Or, is it that when it is all plugged in, the camera will just show as a camera on my list of webcams?
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Thank you for the reply. I will take a look to see what shows up. I am excited, my micro HDMI is due to arrive in like 30 minutes!!!

Maybe the ISO is too high? This can cause a very grainy, sand like, look.
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Yeah, probably that's the reason. I found that ISO was set to 3600. That was the problem. Thank you!
Glad I could help!

this really helped
how do I remove the camera information from my screen? it shows the focus square and other information in my recordings on obs?
You need to deactivate it under the point "tv connection"

Gibts irgendwo ein Video zu den optimalen Einstellungen der Kamera für Streaming?
Hey! Do toi think the lumix gx80 is compatible with the cam link ? Do you test with a other capture card?
Sure it should work with any capture card, since its a basic 1080p videostream in 8 Bit. I could test it with a camlink if I find the time.

My converter shows the camera as a webcam. If not, you can always route it through OBS and use the OBS cam as webcam.
