  • Anthony Ray Hinton spent 27 years on Death Row, wrongfully imprisoned for a murders he did not commit. He shares his story in the powerful new memoir “The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row.” Buy a copy here: www.strandbooks.com/index.cfm...
In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Stunned, confused, and only twenty-nine years old, Hinton knew that it was a case of mistaken identity and believed that the truth would prove his innocence and ultimately set him free.
But with no money and a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, Hinton was sentenced to death by electrocution. He spent his first three years on Death Row at Holman State Prison in agonizing silence, full of despair and anger toward all those who had sent an innocent man to his death. But as Hinton realized and accepted his fate, he resolved not only to survive, but find a way to live on Death Row. For the next twenty-seven years he was a beacon, transforming not only his own spirit, but those of his fellow inmates, fifty-four of whom were executed mere feet from his cell. With the help of civil rights attorney and bestselling author of “Just Mercy,” Bryan Stevenson, Hinton won his release in 2015.
With a foreword by Stevenson, “The Sun Does Shine” is an extraordinary testament to the power of hope sustained through the darkest times. Destined to be a classic memoir of wrongful imprisonment and freedom won, Hinton’s memoir tells his dramatic thirty-year journey and shows how you can take away a man’s freedom, but you can’t take away his imagination, humor, or joy.

      I can't imagine 30 years in prison for a crime I didn't commit... That's one nightmare I could never abide. I wouldn't survive

Whose supposed to apologize none of them are still working for the system don't blame Alabama as a whole put faces to the names those men should be sorry for turning black men into straw men and instead of catching a real killer they just strolled around and found a black kid and took is life away just to watch the hope leave his eyes when they convicted him those men should be sorry not the 2019 judge holding office in his county that would be a hollow appology let that bastard pig who looked a 17 year old boy in the eye and said you will never see the light of day again let him have to publicly stand in front of the man he said that to and make him appologize there he thought he could break this man and look at him he's stronger and better he won and they lost and the final dagger is gonna be from this man's forgiveness that embrace from a man you gave nothing but hate to that will crush him

This white racist supremacy country owes much more then apologies to all black natives males & females. Especially those mothers like Mr Hintons late Queen Mother who they made suffer for 30 years broke her heart taking her baby boy from her & putting him in a 5×7 cage. Sorry will never be enough Black Natives must demand much more from these dispicable haters & terrorists. I believe most of them (Colorless whites, pale faces) descended from the Cananites. Cane & Abel now what tribe do you identify with?

Oh My Lord!!! This was one of the most moving stories I've ever heard. May God elevate Anthony Ray Hinton to the highest places that were always meant for him and reserved for him by God. May his mother rest in peace and may we become a better people and country for Mr. Hinton living to tell his story! Thank you to his best friend for always standing by his side and to Mr. Bryan Stevenson for fighting the good fight! Thank you to any and everyone who has been a part of this man being able to share his story and make a life altering contribution to society! This video needs MORE VIEWS!!! I will definitely be sharing and have already bought the book!!! Thumbs up!!

Mr. Hinton, I am neither from Alabama nor from the justice system; however, I am an American and I am sorry. I am so sorry. I cannot begin to imagine walking a block (much less a mile) in your shoes. Thank you for sharing your powerful message with such grace. Enough *is* enough.

Omg. So sad. Went through hell & still has a positive mindset. His mom saved him through difficult times even though she was not physically there. Her wisdom pushed him through it 🙏❤

BOOM...I was born in Alabama---my father was a pastor for 50 years and my grandfather was a pastor for 50 years....I spent many, many Sundays in Monroeville, Alabama where the lady wrote "To Kill a Mockingbird"... I was always jealous of Lee Harper! Cause I should have written a book about the wonderful community where my grandfather, the Rev E. L. Williams, pastored for 18 years...of Burnt Corn, Alabama---Evergreen, Brewton and
    Atmore!💙💙💙

I’m so thankful that you (Mr. Anthony Ray)had your mother & best friend to believe in you and pull into you when you when the rest of the world shun you out 😢 .

Does God have time lapse photography from another dimension?
In my morning prayers, after finishing Ray's book, I thought about how God made a photograph of his life in death row, and how the astounding simplicity, truthfulness, strength, compassion, and love for even those who hated him most, were captured by God when He did this time lapse of Ray's face. 30 years can slide by in an unhappy marriage, a troublesome career, a physical ill ess or any other such misery, but somehow or other, the most compellingly horrific 30 years in a 5x7 cell knowing it is occupied by a very innocent man would seem to be the most unbearable. God was capturing that time span and creating the person who now shares his true freedom with good people of the world.
Without God, it would have been a different scenario.
    🙏🏻😓💜🌷💜😓🙏🏻

Profound story! Great to see more and more people are reading this ♥️
In the The Sun Does Shine, Anthony lists everyone currently on death row and mentions 1/10 is innocent. One of those names is Clinton Young. If you enjoyed TSDS and are interested in learning more about the flaws of the 'justice' system, I HIGHLY recommend the documentary Innocent on Death Row about the Clinton Young case: th-cam.com/video/murMecxiO-s/w-d-xo.html
