  • We searched high and low on the internet to find out how the Thule Force XT fit on the Honda Pilot before we got one. We wanted to know if it would fit, if it was too big or too small, and what it would look like on the Pilot. We could not find one video on it, so we thought we would do one for others who are also looking for the same stuff. Hope this helps you guys out! #hondapilot #cargocarriers

    How wide is the base? The part that sit on the crossbars between the mounting brackets.

    Thank you! We have a Honda Odyssey 2018. We have a factory installed cross bars and the distance between them is 31.5 inches. Is that the same as that of the Pilot?

    got the force xt xxl to use on our 2021 toyota platinum hybrid highlander. bought aftermarket roof rails (amazon kinggeri brand) that are rated for 260# (oem are rate for 165#). the back end of the force xt xxl stops the tailgate from fully opening, so i had to reset the tailgate to stop 1-2 inches short from it's default setting. Not a big deal.

      I didn't know you could reset it! Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.

    So do you have the L or XL? The XXL is the 22 cuft version.

    Great review Matt thanks. I have a 2013 pilot we are putting a box on. Looking at either the Thule Force or the Yakima Skybox. Still wish you went with the XXL? Debating on the size. We are a family of 7.

    Hi, very informative video, thanks!! Quick quest, what is the height clearance with the Thule on top? We like to go to Vegas and wondering if we'll still be able to use the casino normal parking structures. Thanks!!

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and posting! We used to live in Vegas for a long time so I know the types of parking structures you are talking about. That would be a roll of the dice, no pun intended! Some parking garages are newer and have a high clearance, while the older ones have quite a low clearance where some tall SUV’s are too high. One guy we watched on TH-cam said he had taken off the top of his Thule off because he forgot he had it on. The height would be very dependent on the height of your vehicle. We stay it of parking garages after hearing his story!

    Is yours the xt-L? Or xt-xL?
    Can you fit a stroller in there?
    Please let me know.

    We have a 2016 Honda Pilot and there will be six of us traveling so it's important to get a box big enough. My fear is too big and not fitting on the roof well or not being able to open the rear hatch. I wondering if the 18cuft box would be too big or even the 22cuft. My wife already doesn't like the idea of this on her car but I told her it was a necessity if we were going to travel from Texas to NC with our four kids.

      Thanks for watching and posting! We are so glad that we got our Thule XL. We found that we really could have gone a size up on our 2020 Pilot, it just would have covered the sunroof. If you adjust it correctly, with our size, you won't have any problems lifting the tailgate.
      One insider tip is to bring a either a foldable two step ladder, or some other form of something to stand on because it is quite the balancing act standing on the step inside the door.
      Let your wife know that as long as your rails are on right as well as your Thule, you won't have any problems. Remember your weight limit on the roof! Also, beware of parking garages and the bars hanging down, they can wipe out your Thule in one swift move!

    Great video - thank you! What crossbars would you recommend for this box with the Pilot? Did you use the Thule Crossbars or did you use the Honda equipment?

    I noticed your Pilot was quite low in the back with the roof and hitch boxes installed. Is it riding on the bump stops? Looking at image at 16:39 mark in this video. Thanks in advance!

      Thanks for watching and posting! We had a lot of weight in the car, 5 adults, plus a lot of camping gear in the picture that we used. However, to answer your question, we did not hit the bump stops and we had a little extra room. We really had the poor SUV loaded down in the picture we used, but it performed like a champion! It was riding lower than what we would have liked, but it wasn’t on the bump stops. Thanks again for watching!

    Is there a store that installs racks for you? I have a Honda Civic with no roof rack of any sort. I want to make sure I don't mess up my car.

    • @the.great.adventurers
      @the.great.adventurers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! We started by asking our Honda dealer how much it would be to install these side rails and cross bars. We ended up doing it ourselves because there was a large back order on them to start, and then the price was just more than we were willing to pay. So, we went to TH-cam and found a few vids to try to figure it out. We ended up doing our own TH-cam video on how to install roof rails because no one went slow through the process.
      Other than going directly to the Honda dealer, I don't know what type of shop to recommend.
      Thanks again for watching!

      If you’re getting Thule racks, I’d encourage you to give it a shot, it’s actually very easy to install on a naked roof

      Thanks for watching and posting! We didn’t go with either, but we should have gone with one or the other. We got an off brand from eBay that was very hard to line up and it was a complete fiasco. Our recommendation would be to measure your side rails first to make sure you get the right crossbars, which we didn’t do. Hope this helps!

      We went with Honda Crossbars and they are perfect. I think they are even more secure than the Thule offering
