I know this is a couple years old. But i really hope you can help me. My dana 44 rear on my jeep wrangler is the same way. The shims were sticking out on the left hand side. They were pretty tore up. The thing is. On the left side there were 8 thin shims. On the right side there was one shim about an 1/8 thick along with a thin shim. I tried to put the thick shim next to the 8 thin shims and it seems to be the same thickness. But i just don't know. I don't want to put 8 thin shims back in there. I'm pretty sure that caused the fail. Which was chopped up, not so bad tho, spider gears. I know how to put it together except the shims. Had they been the same, it would be easy. My theory is someone lost the left side thick shim and their remedy was 8 thin shims. I'm just not 100% sure and that's where i need the help. Please.
Use a digital caliper to check the thickness of each of the 8 shims, check the single shim, and if the combines thickness of the 8 equals the 1, swap them out. Theres no gain to multiple thin shims as opposed to a single thicker one. Hope it helps though 2 months past
My thoughts exactly lol, pretty sure my crush sleeve wasnt installed correctly from the factory so looking at how to properly set the load on it when I get all the parts and this was so close to that lol
love the video, got straight to the point and wasted no time at all, hoping to rebuild my 44 here soon
It is nice to have the right tools for the job.👍👍
Great Job,another informative,helpful video
