      I have a question, would this fit an average size 12 year old?

    • @TWANGnBANG
      @TWANGnBANG  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, though a 10x12 plate in something like the Veritas would fit as well and would give better coverage. You’d need to be pretty small for a 9x9 plate to be full coverage.

    I hadn't really thought about it, but I agree the "get home bag" is a concept where this armor has some strengths. It might not be as helpful if you're in a situation where you're expecting violence; but it's providing some pretty good protection in a less obtrusive package.
    To that end, I also think the flat option is more useful because you can't necessarily tell how big a user will be. If you've got a broad person wearing them, curved plates could mean the edges are digging annoyingly into their chest.

    Between new innovations in sizes, carriers, and plate technology, wearing armor is becoming practical in more situations than ever before. That gives us prepared citizens a relative advantage against most bad guys. I'm happy to see this small plate size. No modern body armor is fully protective. I've yet to see NIJ certified head-to-toe plate armor. So we're always balancing protection against mobility. This small size gives partial but substantial protection when we wouldn't wear anything larger. When I invest in a variety of armor options I will definitely want a small plate like this. I like the idea that I might not even be wearing it, but it's small enough that I have it tucked away to bring along. Thanks for this video. It may save lives.

    • @byronmclaggan3443
      @byronmclaggan3443 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well put. I do advise you to rethink the micro armor though. I was thinking along terms of survival and shtf situations, and you're right, even full size 10 x 12 plate carriers will still never fully protect us from harm. I'm not a small guy oh, but I'm not a big guy either. I'm about 5 foot 11 and weigh about 155 lb. I thought that the microcarrier would be perfect size for me. But after receiving it in the mail, it just makes me feel very vulnerable still. The sides of my rib cage by my pectorals are very exposed. An extra inch on each side would make a pretty big difference between me getting clipped in the lung. I just wanted to tell you this because I wish I would have just bought the full size carrier. The next purchase I make will be the full size 10 by 12, back and front, with the side 8 by 6 slots. The microcarrier is great because it fits nice in my bug out bag and is perfect for leaving in a vehicle because it stores very nicely. But I will admit that I kind of regret my decision of going with the micro plate carrier.

    I feel very undecided about my micro carrier. The 8" by 10" plates give me the same feeling. I'm not going fare to well if my lungs are exposed. I spent a good amount of money on it and was very underwhelmed. I have a tactical vest with 8" by 6" carrier slots around the abdomen. So when worn together, I feel pretty covered. But the sides of my lungs being exposed isn't a comforting feeling. As a "get home" piece of armor, I agree. It is a great minimalist carrier, but to be 100% honest I bought it in hopes of it being big enough to use as a main piece of body armor. I should have just spent the extra few hundred dollars and bought the vest with the two 10" by 12" plates and the two 6" by 8" on the sides. I do have to hand it to them though, the quality of the plates and the carriers did exceed my expectations. They make a very solid product and when tested they hold up even better than expected most of the time. If I'm not mistaken the only thing I've seen pierce this armor was a 50 BMG. And the coating is amazing at keeping the fragments of the bullet embedded into the armor. Ar500:10 out of 10. Ar500 micro: 5 out of 10.

    • @byronmclaggan3443
      @byronmclaggan3443 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dill Rogerz 5' 11", 155lb. Broad torso. It's still better than nothing and is of remarkable quality, but for the money I should have just got a full size in my opinion. But as this guy says, when holding a rifle at least, I would be more angeled, but that leads me back to want the full size because there are no side plates, so your abdomen and kidnies are a bit exposed. Still great quality. The fact that I feel it is too small does not mean anything for the quality and purpose. Would still give a 10/10 score taking into account the persons body size. Even for me, as I said, it's better than fighting naked.

    • @byronmclaggan3443
      @byronmclaggan3443 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dill Rogerz to be honest, considering the adjustability of the vest , I wouldn't think that 10 x 12 plates would be too big for somebody who's 5 foot 6. Is he an adult or is he still growing?

    • @byronmclaggan3443
      @byronmclaggan3443 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dill Rogerz personally I would say go with a 10 x 12 because it is adjustable to fit any body type. Everything from the shoulder straps to the side straps are adjustable. If you have the money and want to go get some good body armor, in my opinion I would say just get the full size.

    Like everyone else is saying, that is armor for kids if anything. That plate is so tiny. Plus there is no side coverage. And I'm sure the rear plate is just as small. Not really going to protect your spine much.

      This is again for your car backpack etc where no hole in the chest is better than one. No armor system gives total protection. If you had this and got shit in the heart you’d survive. If you got shot without it you’re dead. Easy decision.

    I have reached out to AR500 Armor but they are so backed up so I was hoping you could help me answer a question. The freeman description says it fits S-XL sizes. This is subjective sizing. Is there any way you can determine what chest size this carrier fits in inches? Thanks

    • @jtarrence29
      @jtarrence29 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is Level III armor so it will stop 7.62x39 rounds and most 5.56 rounds. If you google level iii armor reviews there are plenty of videos of plates getting shot. Mrgunsngear has a video of him shooting AR500 level iii plates.

    Not big enough enough imo... I get that they were going for 'small' but this is a huge waste of money... I guess it covers /some/ vitals... but it still seems the heart isn't adequately covered.

      Definitely covered. Look at the anatomy of coverage. Covers your most vital respiratory/cardiovascular organs. Lower lobes of lungs might be exposed slightly

      This would require an export license by the US Department of Commerce (US Department of State for level IV armor) and an import license for each country to be sold in. See www.ar500armor.com/legal-and-terms-of-use.html

  • @patrickc1508

    I like your videos, but that thing is seriously pointless. It’s not just the lack of coverage straight on, but once you turn, even a little, you have no coverage.
    Maybe for small framed people or a kids shtf bag or something.

    • @herpshnerp
      @herpshnerp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Covers heart and aortic arch, any plate is useless when you are angled. 20x20 plate will be useless from the side too. This isn't comprehensive armor (doesnt exist) but a lightweight center mass armor.

    • @herpshnerp
      @herpshnerp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @John Juan correct. there is no 100% coverage body armor. If there was it would have zero practicality given current technology. Would be too heavy and too restrictive to function. My point is there is no fool proof solution to protecting against gunfire, this plate while small is effective at covering center mass killzone (heart, aorta, bulk of lung, portion of liver, kidneys). Any plate even large when sideways does not cover those areas either.

    • @herpshnerp
      @herpshnerp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @John Juan further this is simply a low cost lightweight option. Nobody said this replaces all other armor options. It's very transportable, woman and kid friendly, and an option to have when you would otherwise opt to not wear or bring armor with due to space or weight or concealability considerations.
