Very nice video. to bleed the pump, leave the belt off, turn the pump with a socket on the pulley bolt. This works with many cars and can prevent cavitation.
This video alongside the auto tensioner pulley video has saved me countless hours this afternoon trying to figure it out on my own. I've bookmarked them all for future reference. Absolute legend 😁
Great video! My moms pump just went bad and needs replacing. I'm glad it's as straightforward as anticipated. Thank you and excellent care shown working on the car. Loads of tips for staying clean, both the car and the garage! Very much appreciated!!
+Andrew Stewart thanks, the only other thing you need to do is to remove the pulley from the PS pump since the new one's don't come with the pulleys attached.
That's because he was pulling a brand-new part off and putting it right back on that's why I had fluid still in it also probably why he didn't show anybody how to remove and replace the pulley
For my 05 V6, I'd like to suggest to those that are trying it out for the first time to take the pulley off: NO IMPACT DRILL, NO PROBLEM! *BEFORE* TAKING OFF THE BELT, HOLD THE PULLEY STURDY WITH ONE HAND SO IT DOESN'T MOVE GRAB A *SIZE 19 WRENCH* TO LOOSEN THAT PULLEY BOLT SO YOU CAN HAND TURN IT LATER WHEN ITS OFF WHEN REINSTALLING: HAND TIGHTEN BOLT AND PUT THE BELT BACK ON PULLEY WITH BOTH SCREWS IN GRAB THE WRENCH AND HOLD BELT AND PULLEY AGAIN BUT TIGHTEN IT TO SAME TIGHTNESS AS BEFORE YW
Nice that it sits up top, makes the job a lot easier. Last week I replaced ac compressor on my son's 2003 Accord and was very difficult due to tight space around lower bolts. A week later and his power steering pump has failed, is making one hell of a clattering sound, I reckon the extra tension from the new serpentine belt probably resulted in it giving up the ghost.
Got a 2007 acura tsx, looks like the same exact engine. Replaced the o ring on the suction side hose clamp mount, but that did not fix the leak. Its leaking at the seam on the pump right below the suction hose mount. As soon as I start it starts to leak. Gonna try a rebuild kit first, since its probably the seals are worn and causing the leak. Good video. Thanks.
Wow, you sir, are gentleman and scholar. You're helping a lot of people by taking the time and effort to create these videos. Thank you. Two questions, is there anyway to get around bleeding the PS once the new pump has been installed? Also, should one fill the new pump with PS fluid before installing?
I thought you were replacing the pump for a new one and thus I was a little puzzled when you said that the pump still had fluid in it when you put it back on. Was this for demonstration purposes only and saw you were installing the same pump that you just took out a minute ago? Very clear and didactic video, many thanks.
Yes this was for demonstration. Usually oem pump comes sealed with fluids already inside the pump. If the pump isn’t primed, you will need to prime the pump so it doesn’t run dry.
Justin Rube Jr. make sure its not the high pressure power steering hose o-ring that is inside. The V6 engine on the Honda accord has problems with those.
Should I flush the system before, or after installing the new pump? My mothers car is the 2004 honda accord 2.4L as well, and some mechanic put a new power steering pump in, and she said it felt great, but then she said after a few weeks the steering was next to impossible, and that the fluid wasn't in the reservoir. Could it be that he didn't flush out all the oldness out first before installing the new one, or do you think it's a rack and pinion steering rack? the car has 195k miles but it drives soo smoothly.
What year is this Accord? I'm watching @:25 my 2007 CRV has this similar cover on the PS pump, with one bolt holding the cover on, but the lower hole is exposed, and there are no threads in it, is that right? Does air or fluid come out? Can't figure out why that other hole is there.
wish you guys made one on that upper hose replacement. mine is leaking and there is a special bulletin and recall on the V6 version on leaking hoses but mine is not a V6 so I have to replace it, its leaking bad but it runs from the top of the engine to the bottom.
Great videos. I need to replace the tensioner and it led me to this video and last comment was about flushing the pump after replacing, which I found the vid about flushing. Is there a quicker easier way to prime the pump without getting into a flush job?
For Honda Accord Owner: I've had 2 recalls from Honda deanship, one of the was replacing the entire power steering pump for FREE. So you guys should call and ask if your car have a recalls. I've 2003 Honda Accord Coupe V6 btw.
Thanks for the info, I've read somewhere online as well that the V6 p/s pump having problems with the high pressure o-ring as well. I haven't read anything for the 4 cylinder engine yet... Thanks again!
I see you replied to a comment about finding a leak and that's what I'm dealing with. It doesn't seem a lot but enough that I fill a little once every two weeks. If I want to check the resavore do I drain it and remove the canister?
David Humphrey no, its hard to tell if its coming from the reservoir. What I did when my reservoir broke from the bottom was that I cleaned the area up with brake clean and let it dry, then the next day I monitor it and see if its still leaking. Once I saw the leak, I check where it was coming from. I noticed that the reservoir was wet from the bottom, it wasn't obvious dripping, so I replaced it and it stopped leaking ever since. If there's a place that was leaking, you will notice it once its dry and clean. Just go with that.
You are awesome. :) I watched this and the serpentine belt video, got the tools and parts, and did it. :) I'd agree with others about how it'd be good if the pully process was in there - the parts I saw online all came without the pulley, so I had to switch that. Easy enough, but if there's an easy way to get it loose without a bench vise, I've be interested in learning it. Not that I'll probably have to change the power steering pump again any time soon, but still. :) Thank you! Giving you a like and subscribe for next time I have to fix something. :)
My 04 honda steering wheel got stuck the other day it was -54 F, anyone know if the cold was a major factor or probably the reason why? I almost hit an incoming vehicle 😱 I let the car warm up before i took off, but in a mile and a half as I was trying to make a left turn it got stuck
I had to replace the water pump, and we had to take out the power steering pump and hose similar to what you did. When I put it back on, i hear a small grumble. Im sure its air in the system. How do I bleed it out? I dont see a part 2
Do you have a video about bleeding the power steering pump? Anybody that's going to change a power steering pump knows how to take a hose off or remove a mounting bolt. It seems to me you skipped the most important part of replacing a power steering pump.
Hey I just flushed the system and the power steering is still having issues so now I’m going to replace it. Will I have to flush again after installing the new pump? Thank you for the video...great work
Great Video. I have a 2007 Honda Accord V6. There is a hissing sound coming from this area of the engine, it goes with the rpm of the engine. Could this be the P/S pump?
+jpman19 any check engine light? any vacuum leaks? is the p/s fluid foamy? also I think the V6 engine p/s pump high pressure hose has o-ring gasket problems. I would check and see if there's any leaks as well.
no lights, It sounds like a air is leaking from somewhere, cant really tell where. There is some fluid build up around the pump itself. i also have a rattling sound, maybe a pulley?
hey quick question, i know there is a o ring connected with high pressure hose for 4 cyl, but is there another o ring connected with low pressure hose that is bolted on to the pump, ive seen couple of v6 hondas and they are replacing the o ring connected with the low pressure hose not high pressure, let me know thanks
I don't think the lower hose has any o-ring because they use the clamp method. I could be wrong, but you should check. The inline 4 cylinder doesn't have any o-ring issues, only the V6 that I've read.
My pump leaks steering wheel fluid rapidly on the area right on top of the 10mm head bolt (the one on top of the low pressure hose) the leak is in the middle of the line that kinda looks like it separates the pump into 2 halfs??? Replace whole pump?
+arlind mehmeti If your engine is a V6, its common that the o-ring there leaks fluid. I would replace the o-ring and see if it still leaks, next would be the hose, since the pump is expensive.
I have Accord 2006 4 cylinder. It seems like there is fluid dried up around the power steering pump. It seems like it most likely is/was leaking from the high pressure o ring. Fluid level seems to be right on the "low" line. Do I need to pinch the high pressure hose? Do I need to remove the belt? Thanks
I would clean up that area, then refill it with ps fluid, and check to see if that area is actively leaking or seeping through. If it is. I would check where its coming from. I've read that the V6 engine has a bad high pressure o-ring that you need to replace. I haven't heard of the 4 cylinder engine having that issue. The only issue I had on my vehicle was a crack underneath the ps reservoir, which was leaking all over the the side onto the body.
Congrats, great videos, but, can't find how to replace high pressure power steering line in 2006 honda accord, please make a video to elxplain, thanks. regards from México.
NutzAboutBolts can you tell me please, I recently replaced my power steering pump which I purchased from eBay for my Honda Accord 2008 VTI - my mechanic also flushed the oil with genuine Honda oil... Now when I drive the steering randomly goes very stiff and hard to turn especially on high rev say when driving up the hill. The O rings are new also. And as usual the seller is blaming the mechanic wrong installation and the mechanic says it's a faulty pump. From what I see the installation looks perfect and no leaks at all. What are your thoughts?
Is the ps pump working properly? Have you tried doing our flush method to see if the pumps pushing fluids out? If the pump isn’t running properly, it can cause the steering to go stiff since there’s no fluids going through the rack and pinion, as if the accessory belt isn’t running.
the long bolt that took forever for you to remove on my accord broke half of it is stuck. What can I do? the area is to crowded to get a drill. can I just mount the first bolt and leave the other one unmounted? please help.
Just finished installing new pump. Filled the fluid. With Engine off turned the wheel lock to lock slowly for 30 min. Still no power steering. Anything i didnt think of?
Can anyone possibly post a video on how to replace and flush the power steering pump on a 2007 CRV? I can't find a video for this anywhere. Thanks, Michael
You really didn't need hose crimpers on the low pressure, or to remove the high pressure mounting bracket, also you could have just removed the one 10mm from the low pressure instead of messing with the hose clamp. Otherwise good tutorial man thanks !
My problem in my Accord is that when I make turns on cold (texas) days it makes a loud whirring sound. Another issue I have is that I think I may have a leak. Is it possible to replace the tubes that may be causing a leak (If at all) and would you suggest replacing the pump?
+Austin76711 Try replacing the o-ring of the hose that is leaking. It's common on the V6 Accord that the low pressure hose o-ring starts leaking p/s fluid. I would check where the leak is coming from and replace what's necessary. Whirling sound can be many things, it could be the serpentine belt, or could be the pulley's, does the noise go away when warmed up? or on all the time?
During the summer time, it's non-existent. During the winter months, regardless of if it's warmed up it'll whirr when I turn the wheel and will only stop when it's in the neutral (straight) position. I'll definitely give the o-ring a check even though it's a 4-cylinder. I'm also hoping it's not the serpentine belt because that got replaced with my alternator not too long ago (during the summer of 2015 I think) but if not, that's fairly easy to fix. If it is tht pulleys, how hard might those be to replace? It also might help a bit more when I get my A/C compressor replaced to make a better diagnosis of the problem... Also thank you for responding so quickly and making great how-to videos. You do an amazing job! Keep up the good work!!
+NutzAboutBolts another thing I'd like to ask is where and what size o-ring should I get? can i buy them from any autoparts store, or have I got to special order them?
Austin76711 I'm not too sure on the size... but you can buy the o-ring at the dealership, or you can remove the o-ring and bring it to an auto store and match it up with another o-ring.
+Austin76711 I don't think its the o-ring then because that issue is only on the V6, if it was your serpentine belt, the noise would be on all the time and not when you turn left or right. It's hard to diagnose noise if we don't know the history of your car. Noise problems are the most complicated issues because it can be anything under the hood.
Hi I have an 04 Honda Accord making a weird noise when I turn the steering wheel to the sides only, already check where the noise is coming from and it's the power steering pump making it do you think PS pump is bad already or is it something else that's gone bad thank you in advance and you got some good @$$ videos man
+Carlos Rios I would check if there's any leaks, any air bubbles or dirty fluids. You can try doing a power steering flush and see if the noise goes away or not. Check the belts if its a whinny noise. A bad belt can cause noise as well, I would also check if the p/s pump looks worn or leaking out from there. Most likely it's either the belt or the p/s pump itself. Lack of p/s fluid can also cause noise if steering left or right.
I had my power steering pump replaced by a mechanic but still makes noise checked for leaks haven't seen any just hums when it's cold then it goes away when warm.
NutzAboutBolts the old one was leaking & so I replaced it the mechanic put a new one but it's catching air somewhere I bled it & shop put new fluid but it hums when it's cold then goes away I'm kinda stumped some
I would bring it back to the mechanic and tell them about this problem and have them replace a new out, could be the p/s pump seals not sealing properly since this never happened on your last p/s pump. Maybe its still under warrenty for you to get it replaced.
The video quality of your videos still hold up. This video eight years old and still looks better than most new ones.
Thanks! 😁

did it come with the pulley in it?? cause if not didnt see where you took the pulley off
+Kevin Housand no, the pulley is separate part.
the long bolt that took forever for you to remove on my accord broke half of it is stuck. What can I do? the area is to crowded to get a drill. can I just mount the first bolt and leave the other one unmounted? please help.
OhNo Hambino Ya
Very helpful video. Thank you.
to remove the pulley is the bolt left threaded or regular lefty loosey?
+the doge its regular lefty loosey but you'll need a pulley holder to hold the pulley from moving or else the nut will just spin with the pulley.
AWESOME! Thank you!
Awesome video! How do you know when you need to change our the Power steering pump?
+Sterling Wong when steering is stiff or foam in the fluids
+NutzAboutBolts thx
Niiiiiice! …is it the same mechanism for the 3.5 V6 Accord?
What is part size for 05 honda ex l4
Thank you for the tutorial you helped me out.
Right behind the power steering fluid is a part what would that be. My cars is completely removed. Can you let me know what that is.
the washer fluid reservoir or the engine mount?
Your the best BRO, thanks
Is this possible without a torque rench or am i gunna mess up my power steering?
This is a Honda recall they will replace it for ZERO dollars
Nice and clean inside.
Rich Lo thanks!
Do I have to drain the old power steering fluid or no??? after changing pumps
+Nestor vides no, you don't need to, but you do need to flush the system from the p/s pump since there could be air in there.
Just finished installing new pump. Filled the fluid. With Engine off turned the wheel lock to lock slowly for 30 min. Still no power steering. Anything i didnt think of?
you need to have the engine turned on to have the power steering to work. The pump is run on by the serpentine belt.
New pump, engine is on, no leaks, fluid is full to max, turn the wheel and no power steering. Its a remanufactured pump, im guessing its toast?
Bring the pump back and ask them for a new one.
What's that socket extension you're using? I couldn't get the right distance with the sockets I have.
it was a 3/8 3" and a 1/4 1" extensions.
whats a good place to buy a power steering pump that's not to noisy or whiney ? any recommendations ??
Honda oem parts and honda power steering fluid only.
Can anyone possibly post a video on how to replace and flush the power steering pump on a 2007 CRV? I can't find a video for this anywhere. Thanks, Michael
What do you mean by bleed the air out?
Do a powersteering flush, it’ll bleed the air out
3:41 brah you doing this in your kitchen?
You really didn't need hose crimpers on the low pressure, or to remove the high pressure mounting bracket, also you could have just removed the one 10mm from the low pressure instead of messing with the hose clamp. Otherwise good tutorial man thanks !
Didn’t want any fluids coming out
@@NutzAboutBolts Totally understand better safe than sorry !
How do you take the wheel off?
does this video also apply to an acura tsx 2004 ?
+nathan2288 yes
Out of curiosity, how much different is it to take it off on an 08 V6?
Kruezerman it should be the same.
+NutzAboutBolts Looks like its the same as an Acura TL too.
Very detailed video, thank you!
thx!
Austin76711
I'm not too sure on the size... but you can buy the o-ring at the dealership, or you can remove the o-ring and bring it to an auto store and match it up with another o-ring.
Does anyone knows if k24 power steering pump is the same as j32a??
Do you happen to have the torque specs for securing the pulley to the power steering pump?
its 47 ft. lbs
Thanks, I appreciate all the videos. 👍
Carlos Castro
glad we could help :)
@@NutzAboutBolts what do you use to keep your engine clean?
mario levicy I use purple power like in the video we did for the engine cleaning.
what pump would you recommend to use? autozone has a Duralast for about $125.
I usually go with oem, but if you want to save money, then go with aftermarket.
Abraham Garcia what happen to the old pump? was it making the noise like that before?
NutzAboutBolts the old one was leaking & so I replaced it the mechanic put a new one but it's catching air somewhere I bled it & shop put new fluid but it hums when it's cold then goes away I'm kinda stumped some
I would bring it back to the mechanic and tell them about this problem and have them replace a new out, could be the p/s pump seals not sealing properly since this never happened on your last p/s pump. Maybe its still under warrenty for you to get it replaced.
NutzAboutBolts. I did he replace it thinking it was defective but it seems to catch air in the morning but I'm a take it back again
alright, let us know how it goes.
Great video and talk through, thank you.

Could you tell me where to get the O Ring you mentioned in the video? Is it necessary to get it replaced if it has never been touched before? Thanks.
you can find them at the dealership.
How do you remove the power steering pressure line
