Have fun with our “Powerhouse”. Glad you decided for the most badass engine you can get for the carf Racer ! If there are any upcoming questions: feel free to ask. Great video as well !!! Thanks for trusting in Kolm Engines 👍👍
@@thelightersideofrc Hi guys, absolute beautiful piece, but personnaly for the sound I found the Moki radial N°1. Of course the P-51 needs an inline engine. 👍👍
Thanks! I have watched the video's but i'm sure in person it's a totally different experience! Looking forward to the test runs and building this aircraft!
It is crazy!! It's impressive that the engine will fit in the nose of that Strega!! Hopefully, this is a plane will see flying around Alberta... Cheers
It says “Prueflaufprotokoll”…means Testrun or Final acceptance test👍…oh Jon I’m so jealous. This is a serious piece of engineering! Cheers from Munich, need a beer now. Sven
Wow, that will be a good engine to insert in this aircraft, super nice build engine, I love this, looking forward to see the building videos of this aircraft, must be a super beast to fly it and hearing the sound of this engine, very cooooooooool, greetings from Remi
So glad to see you're close to starting this project and "yes", that engine is quite the piece of hardware. Can't wait to see you get the CG right on this one. 😂
Now - I am looking forward to this build. The kolm and to a lesser extent the moki are bucket list builds for me. BTW, the fuse for your carf racer didn’t look that big scale. Maybe if you get a chance, pull it off the shelf and hold it up the the kolm engine.
It's gorgeous, and I can't wait to hear it run. I have a soft spot for 3-cylinders. But the price makes no sense at all. You can get a nice (full-size) car engine for less than that!
If you think about it, 18 lbs for a 230CC engine is pretty spectacular! They make motorcycles that race on tracks with just 20CC's more and I guarantee you those don't weigh in at a mere 18 lbs. (transmission or not). Very impressive but like another said, it will be interesting to set the CG even if the distance from the LE of the wing to the firewall is short.
Yea so true Scott. A few of the other documented builds out there look like it’s possible to get it close or bang on without extra weight. We do have the onboard starter so that adds some additional up front
nothing in this Class is better then a Kolm ;)) Hammer Performence Hammer Sounding (better as a Turbine 😁) A awsome Hammer Motor Hurry, hurry wana see the Motor running
HAHA. No kidding Thomas! This Engine is Jewlery! Scared of the type of test stand we need to build to run it. I think I need to bolt it down to my truck!!!
Jonathan welcome to the piston world of RC. Jonathan I know I am reaching but can you ask the owner to do the Exhaust like a True P51 Mustang? Thanks. Enjoy the Build
Good Point Wayne. The Cooling Design that CARF has laid on in the Strega is very well thought out. We will be installing temp sensors on each cylinder.
Watch your fingers at 230cc....you might need to wear a helmet. Love the small intermediate idle gear on the geared starter motor direct to crank...cool what can be done using gearing. Insane motor and super scary...count your fingers before and after each flight would be my advice.
The starter motor and gearbox looks heavy duty. Definitely one of those already in for the engine, might as well get the bells and whistles too type of deals. Plus, who wants to hand flip a 230cc engine?
Oh wow.... That's a fabulous piece of kit! I've been curious about the Kolm engines for a while, but not for aero models. I've been curious whether they would be suitable to fit into a 5" gauge model locomotive driving an alternator for traction power. It would need to be cooled of course, but I'm not sure if they would be appropriate. The size, the sound and the power output would be good, but its whether you could suitably mount and cool them.
Thanks! They sound amazing and if the specs fall in line with what your looking for than it may be a good choice. Cooling would for sure be very important. When we get into the STREGA build, the cooling system in the aircraft is very well thought out.
@@thelightersideofrc Just been watching some of those racing planes and they all have monstrous engines. It's going to be a beast with a beautiful engine tone. 👍
Oh a the BEAST what a sound. If you haven,t heard it check here th-cam.com/video/5PnJkBl0Ql8/w-d-xo.html 18lbs might sound a lot but once you get all the other gear in there should even out. The engine of set will be thing. Great vid Jon. ;0)

Thanks Thomas. I think we would like to order the ISB, fuel pump and the ESC unless you suggest otherwise?
The pressure tank system works also perfect. It’s on you ! The ESC is recommended.
Thanks!
Good choice 👌🏼
Have fun with this badass engine 😎 🤙🏼
Thanks! Looking forward to it!
I enjoyed the pause and held breath while you checked if the manual was in English!
HAHA! No Kidding! After seeing that first cover page I was worried. Not sure I have time to learn german.
The amount of work that went into the machining and assembly of that engine is amazing. They sound absolutely incredible in the air.
Totally! Really looking forward to this one!

Good chance to break out the new CG system, wowwee I can wait till ignition day ha..great stuff thanks..
Yes absolutely! Hopefully we can get her running soon!
Wow! Incredible engine. Can't wait to see this build and hopefully flight tests
For sure Nathan! This Aircraft will be most likely living at The Lighter Side of RC Shop!
Looking forward to hearing that engine run!

Totally insane. 👍👍 I wonder if anyone has ever mounted this Engine into an RC car or small go-cart. It is a beautiful piece of work for sure.
HAHA. Just mind the massive prop if you do!
That's beautiful. I'd love to see a video on the break in and first run ups!
You Bet! Will record it for sure!
My dream rc plane engine..amazing sound
Thanks! Looking forward to firing this one up!
What a cool project!!!! Great to see you building a gasser!!!!

WOW WEE, what a beautiful piece of working mechanical art. Magnificent
No Kidding hey! Such a cool piece of work!
Egad. Well, this oughtta be good. Can’t wait to hear this thing! Better yet, it’s going into Strega… one marvelous Mustang!

Wow that's incredible. Can't wait to see the build! Mike c
Thanks Mike! Yea i'm looking forward to all steps of this project! Will be a fun one!
That's AWESOME! That's also a LOT of engine to get wrecked if the plane should crash.... ouch! Can't wait to hear that baby running! :)
Yea. Can't think about that though! If you think of it that way you will never fly! Yea looking forward to the testing
A masterpiece, a work of art!

Wow,wow,wow that's supper cool.
Thank you 🤗. I was start struck in the video! Could you tell?
That's a beautiful and very expensive motor, would love to hear it run.
Couple videos of it installed and flying on the aircraft we installed it in.
Wow... too cool!
That would probably fly me in an ultralight and it's going into that !! I say again Wow!

Thanks John! Me TOO! Yea it sure doesn't seem like it belongs in that aircraft! I will put them side by side during the run up video's.
Waiting for the build! 👍😁

Thanks Greg. We already have the exhaust for the aircraft. We will keep the scale pieces in place and fit this in.
Hopefully that rear cylinder doesn’t struggle but looks good.

Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good Lord, they make that beast in a 4 cylinder model, either inline or as a boxer if you're building something like a Pitts.
Crazy Hey! Such cool engines!
@@thelightersideofrc I know! About the only thing they don't seem to have is a radial LOL Too bad for the P-47 fans!
I have heard that in the air. You are in for a pleasant surprise. Suggested prop- diameter and pitch- 4 blades?
Yea i'm looking forward to this one! We are installing the Vario 4 blade prop. Pitch will be set during testing and flights.
The starter motor and gearbox looks heavy duty. Definitely one of those already in for the engine, might as well get the bells and whistles too type of deals. Plus, who wants to hand flip a 230cc engine?
Haha. No kidding! I’m sure it’s not an easy task. But. There is just a cool factor of flipping a switch and having your engine start!😎
The pump is a primer.🎉

All ready "discovered". . . 🙂 . . . . . two video's back (NEW BALANCE Machine - THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING) . .. 20:44 hahaha
Haha. Good eye! Always little Easter eggs hiding as the videos aren’t always released in the order published on the channel!
6:25 engine out of box
🙌
It is the test and run protocol ... in german... 😁
Thanks!
Bring it on! Some combustion powerplants!
OH YEA! This one will be fun!
18lbs is a lot but the composite planes are actually heavier then wood/light ply. Sexy though !!! And people think we play with toys (scoffs)
HAHA. No kidding. If you get board of flying just strap her onto a motorbike and your good to go! 😂
What blows my mind is the 18lb engine
Crazy Hey!
The box is very sheep for this engine !!!!
haha. Yes. It arrived safe and sound though!
Could you power a motorbike with it. This would be a market gap. There is no small triple
bike.
You could but it costs as much as some motor bikes.
I want to see one fitted to a motorcycle
HAHA. No Kidding hey!
I don't even have a plane that weighs eighteen pounds!
Looks like you need a size upgrade!
@@thelightersideofrc That's what she said!
🤣🤣
@@thelightersideofrc You keep teeing them up and I'll keep taking a swing at them.
These planes need like 10 12 lbs tail wight ti get cg right with this motor
Shouldn't need that much. The Battery location on the Strega is in the pocket at the rear of the plane.
made in germany....of course

Negative ! Made in Austria 🤟
