    Great test. What I always miss in these tests is the airspeed. It always is zero, while during flying there is high airspeed. Makes a big difference.

      How much of a difference? I watched a video of a turbine engine tech doing testing on full-scale and he said the power difference is negligible between a static test and one at speed.

    • @GiesbertNijhuis
      @GiesbertNijhuis 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DakarNick Really? (link?) Let me rephrase: if there is a big difference in airspeed, in how quickly the air gets in, I would expect a large difference in thrust. But reality is the boss. I have not tested that. Interesting that someone did a real test and not measured a significant difference.

    I don't remember if you've done this or not but, it would be an interesting comparison in power/run-time numbers between diesel, kerosene and actual jet fuel (for those turbines that can use it anyway). Did I hear that max operating speed correctly, 300meters/sec? That's pushing supersonic there for a model engine.
    Looking forward to the bird you put that beast in!

    • @thelightersideofrc

      Yes for sure run's different in the aircraft. More restrictions possibly in the fuel system, different airflow patterns.

  • @Koernell
    @Koernell ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, impressive test, impressive engine. Can you explain how you calculate the maximum flight time for a jet? Or do you always calculate with maximum consumption because of safety reasons? There's no telemetry for the tank capacity, is there?

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. If you are installing a suitable size engine for the aircraft, generally the first step is to set a timer of 5-6 min on your radio. Fly that time on the maiden and slowly adjust. So if your gear up starts the timer and you land when 6 min is up and you still have 1/4 a tank left. Bump it up to 7 min. Fly that for a few flights and see. Generally after the maiden you will fly more aggressive and use more fuel so adjust as needed. If you 10 flights in and your still landing with 1/3rd tank than but it up 30 seconds.
      Xicoy telemetry unit will give fuel consumption. Pretty much all other turbines can use the Vspeak unit which will give tank capacity and fuel consumption.

    Unlike Full Scale Turbines where the support bearings are oiled using a Labyrinth seal design, R/C Turbines use an Open design that rely on the Oil mixed w/ the Kerosene to supply the needed Lubricants. You run out of fuel and you run out of Bearing Lube. At 10,000 RPM a bearing can overheat quickly without lubricant. I wouldn't recommend what you've done here on Any R/C Turbine, especially a New one.

    While 400N is a fairly large turbine as RC turbines go, it is less than half of the most powerful COTS turbine for RC currently.

    Please! Please! Please! For the love of god, please stop saying that turbine engines loose 10/15 % power at 3000 ft. That is the most ignorant thing I have heard on TH-cam in a long time. No turbine engines do not loose 10-15% power at 3000 ft. If that were even close to being true no airline would or even could use a turbine engine. High temperatures play a much greater impact on power output than altitude below 10,000 ft. Please do some homework on this subject before repetitively saying completely erroneous things in every single one of your videos. In reality the power change from sea level to 3000 ft it’s doubtful that you could detect it even with very expensive highly accurate instruments. So, please stop!

    • @terke1230
      @terke1230 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thelightersideofrcIF, at sea level, you have RPM and EGT headroom at rated thrust, you have a de-rated engine. In that case @malloyneil40 is correct. You could use some of that headroom to get back up to rated thrust at the lower density altitude of your shop. If you not not have those de-rates, then a turbine is simply a naturally aspirated engine and thus looses thrust with loss of density altitude. @malloyneil40 probably needs to study his material a little more to understand what he is saying. Keep up the great work.
