Lisa, I have seven children (one in college and married, so technically six at home 😁) and you have radically changed my home and our health. So thank you for that! Today I wanted to complement you with the comment of how great you look. I am always impressed by your natural beauty and your sweet heart. Thanks for all you do!

New subscriber here. When she said she's been a homemaker for 16 years I thought when did she start ( at 11 ) because I actually thought she was still in her twenties and maybe married someone who has kids. So when I read you guys say after 8 kids she is slim I just about had my chin on the floor.

0:49 Girl! ... Why don't you have a basket to shop your freezer? A box, crate or even a garden basket wound be helpful here as you do this at least once a week! Looks like there's even a spot on the shelf behind you to store it when you're not out there shopping. (As I suspect that you keep potatoes and onions out there too.) 💖🌞🌵😷

  • @suzisaintjames
    @suzisaintjames 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

After my potatoes bake... Hot from the oven, I wrap them in kitchen towels to steam. You can leave them wrapped on the counter, but I put them wrapped in a cold microwave or toaster oven to steam... I think being in the little cold ovens helps steam them better. Although I squeeze them like you, I sometimes find one that's still a little firm in the middle. This method solves this problem and I never get a dry baked potato. Something I make from left over baked potato is potato salad. Just add your dressing, celery, onion, hardboiled egg and pickles, ready to serve. I use pickle relish (for hamburgers and hotdogs) in my potato salad... so much faster! 💖🌞🌵😷

To get more veg in my family's diet, I've been cooking kale and then pureeing (chopping it really, really fine). I add at least a cup or two to soups, spaghetti sauce, salmon & noodles and my family hasn't figured it out! They think the little green flecks are parsley, not kale 🤫! 💖🌞🌵😷

I appreciate that the discard recipes make for little waste. Also love that you provide motivation for younger cooks to cook with whole, real ingredients that are nutrient rich.

I used to thaw in hot water until I learned a much better and safer method. Put the meat (covered in its packaging or in a zip lock) in a large bowl and cover in cold water and put into the fridge. It will defrost and
Keep the meat at a proper temperature. Works great for
me every time and I don’t have to worry about the meat being at an unsafe temperature.

I have the same problem as you, especially if I have to work. I try to make things that will expire first, like yourself, then get and plan things that I can use in a week. Luckily my family is more or less self sufficient now, but I still like to make something they can have for a few days ( ie stews, or roast chicken).

I just love watching you cook for your wonderful family. Your soups look so delicious but I’m not much of a spice eater. I wasn’t raised with much spices except for garlic, salt n pepper. My Mama was a good ole’ southerner, born n raised in Alabama. So we ate a lot of southern food. My Mama cooked a lot with lard or bacon grease. It gave some food a delicious flavor. I married a Yankee n he was raised on meat n potatoes. But I got him around to liking some southern food. He loved my southern fried taters. I think you’re doing a fantastic job being a wife n mother. You take very good care of your family. God bless you for that.

Ms. Lisa, I'm watching you at 4 AM, and you make me want to get up to start making food/decorate, etc. Haha! You're always so inspiring. I wanted to tell you that I'm helping at a homeschool CoOp, and we had a pot luck a couple weeks ago, and guess what I took? I fixed 6 different loaves of your sourdough bread, some of which I branched out on my own by adding cheese, seeds, and spices! I've been learning from you since last May or so. They are asking for a class to make sourdough bread...from me...can you believe it? I'm saving lots of discard to take for everyone to have, and they can start making their own starter. It's all from you! Thank you for your wonderful heart!

I’m super sick in my 1st trimester so I’ve been watching more and more of your videos while in bed. I’ve never been more inspired to bake bread, source more quality ingredients (already found a raw milk pickup 15 minutes away), and focus on feeding my family flavorful and nutritious meals. Watching you has made me ponder how it’s such an important way to love my husband and kids, and teach them a valuable life skill. Once I’m feeling better I want to start incorporating some of your routines and meals into my day!

    Love love love your channel!!
I learned to thaw ground meat out quickly by placing the frozen meat in a skillet with a lid and about a quarter cup of water to create some steam inside and turn it to med-low. The steam will soften the meat on all sides, and then you can scrape it off, flipping it over and over when you check it every few minutes. In no time, it will be completely thawed. Then, remove the lid, turn the heat up to med-high to brown the meat, letting the steam cook off for a bit.
Do this while prepping the rest of your dinner. Just keep an eye on it.

I love that you’re a rebel with sourdough too! 😂 my starter is nearly 3 years old and has never looked like what I see on Instagram, it’s never doubled in size or anything but she makes great loaves + everything else! Because of this, I never pre feed my starter, I always pull it out of the fridge when I need it, pour off the hooch and feed it enough to make the days sourdough creation and it’s always great. I love a no fuss approach to sourdough with great results!

Love seeing your good food and sweet presentations. I like what you said about sour dough. It’s so versatile. Sometimes my daughter in law messages me and asks can I do so and so with my sour dough if I didn’t do this or that.? I say sure…

I've been back wearing lately too. It makes things so much easier to get things done, but man my shoulder/neck pain was real the other day.
I need to make a nice soup before winter ends. I used to make soup a lot more but this year haven't done it as often. I loved watching how you were making yours. I can see how it looks like chicken pot pie soup!

Thank you for the videos. I’ve wanted to mill my own flour for a long time now but I keep coming across info saying it can be too harsh and cause irritation when you kill it at home. It’s probably just the internet making things seem scary and dangerous but I’d love to know it you have or if you could make a video all about it !?!? I would love to see that

Agree 100, potatoes are better on their own! Anytime I make roasts...beef, pork, etc potatoes are cooked separately. Its just better 😊

If your sister’s farm sells and ships to places outside your local area, it would be nice to have a link to it. I’m always looking for good pasture raised meat and chicken. Love your site and your recipes.

Lisa, I love the way you use your starter. The no fuss way you feed, use and keep it in the fridge takes so much stress out of sourdough baking

I love using whole wheat flour, i usually use only it and my rye sourdough starter. It's much easier, less sticky and has this amazing flavor that white flour looses.

I always use my starter straight from the fridge and it works just fine. That way you don't need to plan ahead either!
Thank you for all the beautiful content you put out. You have helped me in so many ways in my own homemaking!
Love from the U.P. of Michigan. 🙃
