Rich Williams did not attend the Topeka Shows due to devastating damage in NC where he lives, from Hurricane Helene. He is currently in the Touring Band and all aspects Kansas. Phil Ehart was expected to make a return to the stage at these shows following his recovery from a heart attack last year. He had an unexpected, unrelated health issue concerning kidney stones just prior to these shows and couldn't attend. He is still Managing the Band on a daily basis and has been for 40 years. Prospects are hopeful for a return in some form to the stage again. Billy Greer retired last month after 40 years, well deserved. This video was intended to highlight Original members Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope as they sat in with the Band in Topeka. Very fortunate that they participated. Please show some respect for their contributions, past and present. Thank you, and thanks for watching! EDIT: Steve Walsh retired in 2014. To date, he does not participate in anything KANSAS
There will always be some comment added about Not original members, and I understand this as a fan of any band. Kansas, to me, my opinion; they are an exception. Just follow their history. @hertzair1186 63 here next week! Lots of changes brought on by time but such a rich history that I finally explored in Topeka, a trip I've been looking at doing for decades. Meeting Kerry and Dave Hope here was the cherry on top!

Been a fan of Kansas for 50 years, I've seen them many times. I went to the 50th anniversary concert last year, Dave and Phil were there & played a couple songs. I was hoping to see Kerry, and even Steve come out & play on a couple, but they weren't there. Happy to see Kerry's recovery from his stroke, he look good for what he's been through.

You're welcome, I don't know why others can't see it. It's a pinned explanation, I guess they don't look for it. They just are looking to pick apart and say something negative
@lurpsound4151 Rich is still in the band, he is digging out from the hurricane, Phil is still recovering from a heart attack and could return at some point. Everyone has a sub in this band, no shows are canceled
Basically, yes. Legally, no since Rich and Phil give their blessing to play without them. Typical problem for fans these days who expect more of the classic bands that are trying to hang on.
I've been a fan of Kansas since 1976, when one of my older brothers bought Leftoverture on cassette. My brother only ended up liking Carry On Wayward Son, but I loved the whole album. When I saw Kansas on their 40th anniversary tours of Leftoverture and Point Of Know Return, they were both fantastic shows. Yes, it would have been nice to see a mostly original band, but it is what it is.
I went to the 40th anniversary show for leftoverture in 2017 at Topeka as well. If I remember right, Kerry played Dust and Carry on that night, and it was one of the first tours after Steve left. Was a good show with Phil, Rich, Kerry plus Ragsdale and Billy Greer. I think at this point, Billy could be considered a form of original at this point, being with them full time since 1986 and on every album since then. Rags has been on/off for a long time too
This is such a groovy song and if ya like this one I would encourage yall to check out Rez Band " Where Roses Grow " Live 😊 Hey Jesus loves and digs yall ✌️
Many times with rock concerts, the guitar, bass, and drums overwhelm the vocals and sometimes keyboards. The vocalists will try to compensate by singing louder but they end up singing off pitch or just sounding less pleasant. Sometimes it is so bad that any listener unfamiliar with the melody would have a hard time picking it up as it is heavily buried underneath the bass and distortion. I state this complaint as the background for complimenting Kansas' performance here. They sound terrific. The vocals are great. I can actually hear the lyrics. Imagine that.
I’m glad Dave and Kerry played on this, however, I’m not sure bands like Kansas or Foreigner should be marketing themselves and charge the price they are asking when not one single original band member is in the show. Doesn’t that make it a tribute band? They should call themselves Magnum Opus or something other than Kansas. I’m glad I saw them at their peak in the 70’s on the Monolith tour. One of my favorite bands and one of the only progressive rock bands from America that made the big time.
@drumventure3925 Thanks for watching and valid points for sure! Rich Williams is still in the band and missed these shows due to the devastation surrounding his home from the hurricane in NC. He has since returned to live shows. Phil Ehart was expected to return to the stage here following his successful recovery from a heart attack back in March. He had to have some kidney stones removed just prior to this show, minor unrelated procedure, but the unfortunate timing caused him to miss his return. There is still hope he returns at some point, he wants to. He still manages the band. Billy Greer just retired a month ago. When I bought these tickets for 2 shows in Topeka in March, I fully expected to see 4 original members on stage, like I did in KC in 2023. What was I supposed to do? Not go and cancel my 500 mile Trip I had planned for 7 months? Sometimes, you have to make the best of the situation, which I did. That being said , these 2 shows are likely to be my last, and I wanted to go out with a bang. Kansas has been my favorite band since 1974 and their first album when I was 13. I saw their first show in 1976, and about 35 shows since over the years. Thank you for watching and commenting. I've addressed this topic on this video about 25 times. It's become redundant. Well, I've answered this question about 40 times on this post, so what is one more? Richard is still in the band and tours. He lives in NC, and his area is devastated by Hurricane Helene. He couldn't make these shows. Phil is still in the band. He had a heart attack last year and has recovered well. He was slated to make a return to the stage for these shows. This post is about Kerry and Dave taking the stage, there you have it
Yes, cell phone footage, unfortunately. I brought my good camera, but security wouldn't let me use it. They made a REALLY big deal about it. They let me in with it through the front gates, no problem. I was in the front row center and and some guy gave me a really hard time about it, and I hadn't even used it yet. It was sitting on my seat in between my legs, and he asked me what it was ( Insta 360 Ace Pro) he demanded I remove it from the premises, or he was going to confiscate it! I walked to venue from the hotel so I had to take it back to the room. I barely made it back before the show started. Ironically, I used it the night before there, no problems. At least the editor I use improved the resolution some
@rogerbeutler5671 Rich lives in the Mountains of NC and is dealing with the devastating effects of the hurricane in his area. He will be back, Billy is retired from Kansas, the touring is too much on his health.
Rich lives in the Mountains of NC and suffered severe damage from the hurricane and couldn't make it. Phil had a heart attack last year and is not fully recovered, so neither could make it. Billy Greer also retired last month.
@@stevemcfate1961Thank you for those updates. I had no idea Rich was impacted like that. I remember now about Phil’s heart, but thought he would be recovered by now. I’ll keep them both in my thoughts.
@NCBeaches Phil actually has recovered well from his heart issues, he was supposed to be there for these 2 shows and play but they told us at the photo Op that Phil has been dealing with another separate unrelated issue, I guess it's not serious. Billy retiring was a big blow to the band if you ask me, 40 years, he was highly talented and brought a lot to the table. Just as important as an original member
@barryrahn5957 No, Steve retired in 2014. This is Ronnie Platt. He took over in 2014 and been with them ever since. He was previously singing with Shooting Star
@charleswind8298 Rich Williams is still in the touring band, he couldn't make it to these shows because of hurricane Helene, he lives in the Mountains of NC that were devastated. Phil Ehart is still managing the band and had a heart attack but is recovering well and hopes to be back, in fact he was planning on these 2 shows for his return, and had an unrelated issue crop up, he had to have some kidney stones removed. So there is your answer, so no need to state the obvious, it's already been done at least 20 times on this post
@chuckfriebe843 Appeared to be in fine health for a man in his 70s. I met him in person before the show after the Photo Op as I was front row and had early access. He seemed fine!
Kansas has a fantastic song line. The worst lousiest commercial sell out tune is this one. Hiw about BELEXES or CAN I TELL YOU. It's always this overproduced garbage tune.
@billbest3354 I have a video of Belexes out from this night on my channel. I also have one of Glimpse of Home from Monolith, a very deep cut! Check it out! Business dictates they have to play this song. The Band has to satisfy the promoters and the fans. This is a known fact. They have been playing Belexes and Can I Tell You every night on this Tour for nearly 2 years, and both have been regulars in the setlist way before that!
For all purposes. Kansas is a tribute band. Should of hang it up a decade or two ago. Last album of theirs I really liked was "Audio Visions" (last with original band). Since then purchased several of their albums. Pure rubbish in my opinion especially 2020's The Absence of Presence (their latest studio album with new members). Time for these *"Classic Rock"* bands [like Kansas, BTO, Yes] to retire (with little legacy they have left). So up & coming rock bands can bring back the rock music genre these classic rock bands squandered away to pop / country pop / hip hop music.
you have an ego problem. You're not a hard-core fan or you wouldn't be making such ridiculous, arrogant statements. Rock music at its core is about live performance, not enhancing your record collection. Kansas is iconic and something for the entire state to be proud of. This is timeless music, and these musicians are world-class. Show them some respect, or perhaps you have done something better?

At least the editor I use improved the resolution some
What happened to Rich? Is Billy Grier gone permanently?
@rogerbeutler5671 Rich lives in the Mountains of NC and is dealing with the devastating effects of the hurricane in his area. He will be back, Billy is retired from Kansas, the touring is too much on his health.
@@stevemcfate1961 thanks brother!
@rogerbeutler5671 you are welcome!
What's weird to me is mostly all bands let the crowd sing. Because it's not loud enough anymore.
Who's the drummmer...
Eric Holmquist, been Phil's drum tech over 20 years and playing with the band over a year while Phil recovers from a heart attack
@@stevemcfate1961 he is great 👍
@jamestartaglia7686 very similar in ways to Phil, being his protege' not surprising. Yes, Eric Rocks!
Where’s Richard and Phil?
Ok guys Im putting a band together...I play guitar...I need 5 more guitars players to join if you know anybody...
Was that Steve Walsh on vocals?
@barryrahn5957 No, Steve retired in 2014. This is Ronnie Platt. He took over in 2014 and been with them ever since. He was previously singing with Shooting Star
@@stevemcfate1961 Thanks. I didn't think so.
@@stevemcfate1961 IMO, he sounds great and a very close match to Steve.
Who's the singer
Ronnie Platt, he took over in 2014 when Steve Walsh retired
Does a good job. Those parts are demanding.
Missing Steve Walsh and Rick too
@RM-mm9sr Walsh retired in 2014, 10 years ago! Rick? Never had a Rick. If you are talking about Robby, he passed away 3 years ago
Where is Steve Walsh?
Really? He's been retired since 2014
What's with the edits??
What would you like to know?
So this is basically a tribute band
@patrickfreeman8257 if you look at my pinned statement right below your comment, it explains everything
Hell of a run guys. Time to retire.
Steve Walsh?
Read the pinned comment
Sounds way better than when I saw them live in the early 90s. They sounded awful.
I see they wore their farm clothes.🤣🤣🤣
They are who they are
How many originals are even in the touring band ? If none, it’s a cover band.
Why take the name but forinior did the same shit
Like REO it’s time to retire the band brand. Don’t do a Foreigner and continue to tour as a 100% tribute band.
Dave Hope is not looking so good. This is what happens when you don't exercise.
@@stevemcfate1961 great. But carry on is still by far their worst song. Ever. Period. No discission.
Never cared for this phase (time) of rock music. Foreigner, Journey etc
I'm surprised you watched and commented , thanks!
@@stevemcfate1961 for about 20 seconds to hear it live. Good musicians
@magic2506 that's about the average attention span of the typical viewer, plenty of shorts to watch
that's weird since it was clearly the BEST
