Having played Spider's previous rpg (The Technomancer) the step up in polish and gameplay mechanics in Greeffall is more than noticeable. For a small studio with limited manpower and funds the final product is very good imho. Considering what we got from some AAA, filthy rich studios in the last couple of years... I hope Spider continues to build up their know-how.

@@helmbreaker8622 Yeah it had a good story. If that's really all that matters they should've just turned it into a cinematic movie =/ I've played the full game and just thought the whole thing was mediocre. The books are a much better experience, just like the GoT books absolutely whip the piss outta that wretched show.
No microtransactions or anything tho? No gear real money purchases or xp boosts? I didn't hear Mack mention it so I assume its not there. Thats worth a few points in my book.
@Mike Watts tell that to EA or Ubisoft just for a start :). They wouldn't sale you a complete game and/or without some kind of "surprise mechanics" if their life depended on it.
It's the best AA game I've played in a while. Not a loot-box in sight either! This feels like a game from years ago before it all went to shit. And I like how your character is important and authoritative right from the start rather than a typical RPG scrub from a broken home with some dumb prophecy they're destined to fulfill. I hope we see a Greedfall 2, really do.
The game has issues, but I'm having a blast playing it. I'm playing a one handed sword, gunner and traps guy which is a lot of fun. Very dynamic and versatile build. You have to remember that this is a game made by a team of 45 people. Maybe they should have priced it a bit cheaper, but I still think comparing it to The Witcher 3 is a bit unfair. If you like euro RPGs like Gothic and Risen, and you can handle some clunk, then give this game a go.
@Blue cigar Gaming The game is not worth the price atm, what would you have him do? LIE? Witcher 3 is not the greatest game ever(I finished it), I mostly remember Gwent from it and that proves that the card game in witcher 3 was a better game-play mechanic than the game.
@@MyAmvList Sounds to me like you have a driver issue. Anyway I have had zero problems with Greedfall thus far, and I like their previous games. Mars: War Logs and Bound by Flame in particular. Different strokes, dude.
@Blue cigar Gaming Yea i was not clear enough. "witcher 3 is one of the greatest rpg's ever" it is NOT that. Gameplay in that game is broken AF. AI is horrible. = challenging only because of how clunky it is and not because the game is good in that regard. This is not subjective, it is a well known issue. it makes that game lose the spot of one of the greatest rpg's ever. The story and exploration pushes it forward to a good game, but that is it. You might feel it is a better game than it is, but from an unbiased perspective, it is simply not. I enjoyed that game for what it is but I am not blind of it's issues. Gwent is good because of how well the cards were placed in the game, making them well paced and keep you on your toes to find them all. Pacing is one of the things Witcher 3 did well. You felt that you earned the right to win the gwent games. About this game, "made by a small team" means nothing when it comes to wrong pricing. It just proves they did not have a marketing department that should have studied how wrong pricing a game could literally kill it. The game is simply not worth the asking price. It is a nice effort by a small team that is ruined by asking too much on release for the product. If they really needed money that badly they should have released it with a discount for the first week or something, to increase sales.
Well if they played them and actually took notes, it would show them what true and good RPG's are and how they should make them. At the very least it'd make them rethink what they should label an RPG..
Yeah, but he makes a good point. Respect to the devs,as they seam to be getting closer. You can tell their budget was tight, and that they tried it on with the price.
Was waiting for this review. Mack just says everything you need to know about the game without focusing for 20 minutes on random, pointless nonsense. Great review.
I watched few reviews and they had the same verdict as mack, that it's not great but also not bad either. So I am sure you can find someone saying that it's great, but that doesn't change anything. Clearly it's not a game for everyone, not for me at least.
@DevilTrigger hahaha I'm sorry but karak has been mostly a yes man since a few sponsor deals going back a few years ago.. if he is told not to put a game down he often delays..or he reviews in a sly way where he hypes it up for 25mins then tells u at the end quickly it isn't so good.
You're being overly harsh --- and I would rarely say that about your reviews. They're a dev team of like 20+ people with a small budget --- compare that to Bethesda's budget and manpower. Sure the game has a number of issues (no bugs though, compare that to Bioware and Bethesda), but it also has a lot going for it. Besides, it really scratches the RPG itch at a time when there isn't much out there. Comparing this game to the Witcher 3 is totally out of line --- oh and regarding travel, it reminds me a lot of DAO and that isn't a bad thing.
It affects how they decide to make the game. It 's a small studio with very little funds. They wanted to focus on story and have everyting voiced. That means cutting corners in other areas of development.
@Gaymar Omar yep, fixed almost everything. I still do have some problem with armor clippings but that's about it, nothing game breaking. Played it like 3 months ago.
Honestly nah. Sometimes making things SO realistic and historically accurate is not a good idea. The game , combat , the characters. Realistic, but they forgot about the fun aspect..
@@jennycrossdress8500 Just because something is not of your cup, doesn't mean it's bad. And KCD is far from realistic, it's just focusing more on the immersive historical and medieval aspects.
I went into this game with low expectations because I knew it wasn’t going to be a witcher 3 or dragon age origin. But I have to say that I can’t stop playing. I’m really enjoying it. If you turn your brain off and ignore the horrid lip syncing and go into this game with low expectations then I think you will really enjoy this game.
Same here. Spiders is only a AA studio, so I wasn't expecting an Earth-shattering game, but it was a solid game that I felt was worth the money I paid. This is definitely the best game from this studio, & hopefully a sign of great things to come.
I disagree with mack here. Bethesda rpgs/old school bioware are one type of rpg. Rpg just means you play a role in the world with stats and levels, nothing to do with stealing things in people's houses with consequences. Bethesda games have many many issues that aren't present in other rpgs and shouldn't be held up as a guide for all others made in the genre.
Besides, most houses in this game have nothing to steal at all --- it isn't like Skyrim where everybody keeps their fruits, vegetables and meat in a barrel.
The core idea of an RPG is that YOU create a character and YOU are the character, in witcher 3 you are GIVEN this character and you play the ADVENTURES of the witcher, he has a pre determined past, motives and characteristics hell in witcher 3 you even have pre set friends. One way to bypass this is by giving player the choice of freedom like in Fallout 3 in which they can choose their childhood or in Octopath traveler in which you can choose between multiple characters with different back stories and motives (although it still does force you to some extend)
2019, a SINGLEplayer rpg comes from an smaller studio, that tickles so many Bioware feels and you downvote it. Damn. :/ Having my fun with it, 34 hours in.
You did forget to mention that it was made by a small team of developer that have no wear near the funds or staff to pull this off. But what they made is still pretty impressive. I agree on everything you said though. Would give it a 7 myself. Not bad for a small indie team
Remember that Kingdom Come: Deliverance was also made by a small team with a small budget. Their game also released for a few quid cheaper. If you compare it to that, Greedfall seems... lacking.
@@Pawn2e4 I honestly thought that KC:D had a lot of the same issues as Greedfall. Tons of graphical glitches(Character models not loading, textures not loading, distorted faces, better lipsync than greedfall but still not great), some very questionable voice acting and writing in parts(Other parts nailed it though) and plenty of bugged quests, misplaced collision, broken AI, etc. I got pretty much exactly the same feeling from KC:D that I get from greedfall-A game with a lot of heart, made by a team who wanted to make an awesome game, but didn't quite have the resources or experience to fully realise their vision. I can't deny that KC:D was more reasonably priced for the level of polish it offered though.
@@spartanbeef9491 I honestly don't think the bugs are Greedfalls problem. The game just feels underwhelming, like you're playing an inferior version of another game. It's... Forgettable. That could never be said about Kingdom Come, it offered something new and appealed greatly to hardcore role players. Some will consider Kingdom Come their favourite game, I can't imagine anybody saying that about Greedfall. Perhaps a sequel will be better! I wasn't a big fan of Witcher 2 either.
@@spartanbeef9491 KCD was an amazing game that easily drew you into their world. I logged 1325 hrs into that game and I'll still play it again. but Greed Fall, 23hrs and I absolutely can't stand it. the more I play it the more I dislike it
When is the last time you played an RPG as good as DA Origins or KoToR though? These type of games are few and far between so I think a slightly inferior version is still worth playing.
This developer continues to pump out mediocre games, people are curious what they'd do with a bigger budget but I wouldn't hold out much hope. They put in a lot of things we've seen time and time again, a bigger budget won't necessarily buy better and more creative gameplay.
@Grant Eventyr I would pay $70 for any game that is polished doesn't matter which company made it if I watch a review and it looks polished, $70 is fine. But this game is not polished. If you charge over $50 you can't have lip-syncing issues and the all the other basic issues with this game. I'm not saying it is a bad game I would like to play it but for me with all those issues that Mack mentioned makes me not want to spend 70 bucks. For me, $70 is a polished game.
70? That's not the game's fault. That's a crappy currency and economy. I paid 50 and would've paid 60. Enjoy your microtransactions on borderlands3. 6 years and it's just like borderlands2? Dert.
The Witcher 3 cost 84 millions with 200 people in a 5 year game development. This cost what,5 million with 30 to 50 people in a 2 and half year development. I agree with you on most of negative stuff but people need to give a break on small games from indie devs.
@@WorthABuyreviews Its not the same price for me 50 euro compared with The Witcher 3 60 euro....and it should have been 40 but since they call it a Double A game 50 is the price tag.
Having watched Mack's video here and perusing the comments, I'm wondering what the definition of an RPG really is --- at its core. To me it's simple, your "character" (as in attitude, morals, demeanor, etc.) is determined by your decisions/dialogues --- and there are CONSEQUENCES. I haven't finished the game yet so I'm not sure about the real impact of my decisions, but I'm happy so far with my ability to choose ... and placing you in the position of a diplomat trying to juggle the various interests of different factions/nation states seems like a great setting for that dynamic.
When you said playing Bethesda titles first to learn immersive RPG stuff I laughed. I remember joining the Fighter's Guild and the mage's guild then stealing everything and selling it, coming back to steal some more right in front of guild members and no one batted an eyelid. Yes Witcher 3 let's you rob people's houses and Fallout/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim did not but they did allow guild halls to be ransacked with no consequences whatsofuckingever. I wonder how many ex - Bioware people worked on Greedfall, it does resemble their work, not as polished because of limited budget of course but in spirit it does feel like a Bioware of old title. I think I'll wait for a Steam sale on this one, that price seems way too steep.
i played FNV first, then i thought = "what a mindblowing game this was oh wait, what the hell would be fallout 3 like?" immidiately got fallout3 and was disappointed heartbroken shocked, couldnt even get past the initial stages of the game it was so bad.
@@chikuman6224 well yeah the initial stages are not the greatest, but FO3 will always be on of my favorite games of all time. You really should give it another chance at some point, the first few areas are boring then it explodes. FO3 will immerse you, make you feel like you are truly alone sometimes, in the middle of an apocalypse. You have to listen to the radio w/ "three dog" to really experience the unique aspects.
I'm actually loving this game! You can't look at it as a AAA game cause its just not. Spiders has heart and soul and they actually try! They are a underdog studio and I really want them to succeed. They just need a bigger budget. This game is hands down better than Mass Effect Andromeda, which is crazy to think about 😑 Not saying this is a fact, just my opinion! Greedfall is a diamond in the rough for me 😁
Well said. Spiders is one of the most underrated game studios out there. While their games have more than less stiff parts, they're always capable of bringing something exciting on the table. I'd love to see something in a smaller scale from them, although I can't really blame them for having ambition. Since Bioware is busy shoveling dirt on their coffin, there's plenty of room for western RPG developers to shine. And I'd say Spiders is one of the best out there.
@@sherr1306 but it dosent? I'm in UK and bought it for £40 without any discount. That's not AAA pricing, nor do they have 20 special editions of the game getting more pricey. (Okay, 20 was overplaying it) how can you knock a small studio of 15 people? You can tell they are passionate, one price no mircrotransactions. We should be championing this instead of buying games by money hungry studios. I'd rather buy a game like Greedfall twice than buy one game by EA, Activision and the like. Sorry for the long post but I hate how video games are going in 2019. Let's build up small passionate studios like Spiders instead of tearing them down for issues relating to budget. If you've played their debut "bound by flames" you'll see just how far they've come in only three games!
@@sherr1306 Then again, most of the people are more forgiving to triple A titles for their flaws. Looking at you, Bethesda. And I'm fairly sure GreedFall will drop its price soon after the launch. Besides, consumers are loving GreedFall, currently with mostly positive reviews on Steam.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is the gold standard of the RPG genre. You can tell just by looking at Greedfall it doesn't have half the charm or even the quarter of the depth that DOS2 had. Damnit, that game has spoilt other RPGs for me!
@@R3in_Ch Because the majority of RPG gamers don't care much for isometric games. Most of them grew up playing games like Oblivion, Mass Effect, Skyrim, The Witcher 3 etc. and prefers third person games to the isometric viewpoint. Plus, D:OS2 can get a little heavy unless you're REALLY into RPGs.
Dos2 is amazing. I dont even know how Larian studios did this with the KS budget. (Clearly they had other financing) I remember one mission you chose to let some fer assassinated and the person ran off when my wife turned it in. Then I was there standing next to the target and the assassin came up moments later and shanked them in their bed. Dunno why I was impressed with that detail. Cant wait for baldur's gate 3
DOS2 is an amazing game but it kind of force you to grind (focus on random side quests) in order to progress; which ruin the immersion for me. Age of decadence, the Shadorun trilogy or Spiderweb games are what I'd call real (isometric) RPGs: totally immersive.
You are the only reviewer I have seen to point out the reset fault in the combat. Very nice! That kinda ruins it for me, as combat has to be on point for me to really enjoy. I hope they fix it soon for the folks who already own it. I'd buy it for about $20, and I can wait.
It's always funny when mack cites games like FO3 and Skyrim as examples of good rpgs when they consolized the fuck out of rpgs and basically ruined the genre from about 2008 onwards.
Respectfully disagree. I see comparisons with Risen 3 and Elex, so this will do me fine. I'll easily get 44 hours out of this, probably more, so for me it is very much worth the price...
@@KlR0V Two things: 1. It's a team of 30 people, so you should be a little more forgiving. 2. It's still a great game and those things really bother you, then play something else.
SI_ W No, i shouldn't because they want 50 dolars for it. The fact that you're mentioning that as an excuse for its quality is because you acnowledge it is cheap and lazy. @@KlR0V I already did, thanks. I don't need enemy variety. I'm ex-military and the one thing I never heard was "I wish we had more variety of enemy..."
Im liking this game a lot personally. And I have played many many RPGs. But I wasnt expecting much of this game when it came out, so I got pleasently surprised. And the best thing about this one is that its unique compared to other RPGs. I think its a good buy. Atleast get it on sales if you're not sur now
how could you like Technomancer? granted the combat was eh, not too bad but, all the damn missions was running to B from A and then run back from B to A and sometimes multiple times over, it was horrible..
Bruh if you actually managed to LIKE The Technomancer then you're gonna love this game, and that's coming from someone who considers himself a Spiders fan.
All I can say is thank you for saving me £40. I was due to buy it today but thankfully watched your video first. I might pick the game up in a year in the bargain bin for £10 but I'm not paying full price now.
I love it when a small team creates something great, just to show you that these AAA companies are lying when they say "we had to downgrade because it's just too difficult to make the game more complex, graphically beautiful, etc."
i agree, i specifically wasted 20 hours exploring, searching for secrets and bosses. well, all i got was locked locations, blocked paths, no rewards,no bosses and i end up fighting the same wild animals for too long. I was a pure warrior and i got so sick of my companions geting killed i took the healing spell and now i will get stassis. melee weapons seem like an accesory at best, guns and magic are far superior. And even the unique/legendary items are useless because you find a rare item on a bandit that's better. It's a 25-30 euro game with extremly bad combat, even gothic did a better job
I agree that if RPGs held themselves to more realistic standards, it would be more immersive. I have watched gameplay as well as other reviews for Greedfall. Yes this game is an idie game and has a lower budget with bugs and quirks, but I think that I will purchase it. There is just something about this game that interests me. Thanks for the honest review. Keep up the good work.

@@xMTxcameron Fair enough, but Mack was talking about games that do player agency well. And in that regard, New Vegas is objectively better than Fallout 3.
Cameron Kirby - If you enjoy an Interesting and diverse world then fallout 3 is a good one however when it comes to role playing ability then fallout new Vegas is where it’s at
+Cameron Kirby Replayed fallout 3 with mods last summer. Was extremely immersive and fun. I liked it more than the newer ones. So many interesting side quests.
Isn't this game a AA game, it's a bit unfair to compare it to a AAA game like The Witcher 3 plus that game was a masterpiece so its pretty hard to match or surpass imo.
Its actually really good. This guy is comparing this game to big budget AAA developers. I dont think there was more then 40 people involved in the making of this game. If you keep that in mind you'll be impressed. You can get it cheap now. Definitely worth a buy

Pretty. sure this is a AA game there needs to be a completely different grading system for AA and AAA games. From everything I can see it seems like a pretty good game.
Mack thank you for speeding this time on our behalf, great review. I know I should try to comment more, the least I can do. Its good that you are well. Take care.
Damn Mac why you gotta rain on my parade I've been excited to get this game and all the other reviewers give it around a 8 or so but I know like always I'm gonna agree with you on almost everything and it's gonna be underwhelming. Sadface
Playing the Witcher right now (for the second time after 4 years) it's an amazing game! for me that game destroys Skyrim and fallout any time (Skyrim combat was awful and totally not immersive ) ok , it's true that you can go in any house and loot everything you want (witch is ridiculous) but for the rest it's still the best rpg to date.
I enjoy playing this game. Its a mix of witcher, assassins creed and a hint of Pocahontas. I like the lore and storyline. Its a good AA game in my opinion. Some cinematics gave me sad feels some are quite powerful. Combat could be a tad better (more skills in combat)
i think it was great! probably will be recognized in many many years from now. i skipped 95% of the dialog but the environment, controls, soundtrack, fighting, very fun!! great ending also
Role Playing Game which means you can play the role of the character, to be able to do this effectively you need a game world, quests and combat that allow you to immerse yourself into the role of the character you are playing. I showed with video proof how this game fails at that very thing. Now over to you, I can't wait to hear your explanation.
@@WorthABuyreviews What you're saying is true, but you also defend Skyrim, the so called "RPG" that killed the entire genre. It's a double standard that I've never understood, despite generally finding your reviews accurate and insightful.
On the Witcher 3 comparison: it's not only that it was crafted with passion, it was also crafted with money. Lots of money. This game was probably made on a budget 100 times smaller
@@TheRPGentleman I was disappointed with CDPR when they reneged on their Female/Male thing by totally removing the choice from the game. God forbid your birth certificate has a sex on it. If they wanted to address gender, then why not just unlock body type and voice type from sex and call it a day? Instead they took the choice away from everyone.
@@MagiofAsura The removal of all third person cutscenes was clearly in tandem with the removal of gender choice. That way you never see your character so it doesn't matter which gender you are. Before I buy a game I come to see if you did a review on it first. Love your content and humor throughout. You are very thorough and I mostly agree with what you say. The only difference is I like magic in games (referencing Total Warhammer review) and you said you didn't so I have to just be aware of your preference when I go through your reviews. As an example, I skipped this game based on your review. Please keep up the great work.
Game developers should be forced to play elderscolls games to learn how to make great game world.. and unimaginative, dull, borning main story. No thx. Not every game has to be skyrim lol.
I agreed with a lot of what you said about the Witcher 3, (albeit still one of my fave games) but I can't keep hearing about this stealing things nonsense. If you steal in front of guards they'll attack you. If you steal from townspeople that won't, because you are a Witcher. Multiple times throughout the game people choose not to trifle with you, for good reasons. Those that do are generally bandits on fisstech. Witcher are not to be fucked with...
Mack, if I could never hear you talk about Witcher 3 again, it would be too soon. :) I love your channel and have donated to you for years now but you sound so foolish whenever you talk about that game. I played it for the first time in the past year (took around 250 hrs for all the content in the base game and the addons) Just a few reasons why: - The game *does* have consequences for stealing items. If you steal in front of a guard they will immediately chase and kill you. Unlike Bethsoft games, guards are not psychic and cannot see when you steal inside of people's homes. And the game makes very clear the general populace is terrified/repulsed of you and therefore does nothing as you ransack their homes. - It is painfully obvious from your review and the footage you had that you played only the very beginning of the game, missed out on 95% of the content and gameplay, yet reviewed the game with the confidence of an expert (something you criticize other reviewers for doing). (You're really missing out on the story presentation in particular- the decisions you make in the game and the way the consequences play out are done so much better than any other game I've ever seen. The difference in quality between the story presentation in this game and other games is like the difference between a high school play and a Broadway musical) - You're right that the combat is based around attacking and dodging (via rolling on the floor). However, as you progress through the game you're required to spec out your character and use your various magic abilities in order to exploit later foes weaknesses. Only spamming your sword without building out a character is not a viable strategy to get through the whole game. -Your review also focused on some nonsensical complaints like a minor bug with an NPC's pathing in relation to your horse. Or that an NPC remained engaged in a quest fighting the griffin even if your character rode away and came back days later. Coming from someone like yourself who loves Bethsoft games. where both of these issues are par for the course (plus many, many more bugs), this is a little absurd. I've always felt you did the Witcher 3 review on a particularly cranky or difficult day; it's understandable- it happens to the best of us. No one is 100% all the time. But it's time to just leave it in the past and stop whining about it, or admit maybe you made a mistake and re-review the game to give a fair shake.
Couldn't agree more he clearly rushed it out the gate and didn't experience everything, I never spend much time in single player games and alsl hated witcher 1 and 2 but even I spent well over 400 hours doing anything and everything and that's a testament to the games success

None of that in the game. You buy the game and that's what you get
@Mike Watts sad that we have praise games that dont have microtransactions
@Mike Watts exactly this should be the expectation
@Mike Watts tell that to EA or Ubisoft just for a start :). They wouldn't sale you a complete game and/or without some kind of "surprise mechanics" if their life depended on it.
It’s sad that we have to praise games when there’s no microtransactions now
It's the best AA game I've played in a while.
Greedfall 2 going into early access shortly.

I'm not sure if forcing developers to play Skyrim and Fallout 3 would "make RPGs better"...
Well if they played them and actually took notes, it would show them what true and good RPG's are and how they should make them. At the very least it'd make them rethink what they should label an RPG..
I doubt that too. Make 'em play Divinity Original Sin 2 or Tyranny instead.

Was waiting for this review. Mack just says everything you need to know about the game without focusing for 20 minutes on random, pointless nonsense. Great review.
could not agree more!
I watched few reviews and they had the same verdict as mack, that it's not great but also not bad either. So I am sure you can find someone saying that it's great, but that doesn't change anything.
Clearly it's not a game for everyone, not for me at least.
@DevilTrigger How can you be wrong with the review???
Lol you really put a lot of stock in another man's opinion. Don't you have one of your own?
How does the size of a game dev team affect how fun a game is to actually play?
It affects how they decide to make the game. It 's a small studio with very little funds.
They wanted to focus on story and have everyting voiced. That means cutting corners in other areas of development.
No mention of Kingdom Come as top RPG, my bell rang.

That game is ok, but define what good enough to hang with it's better brethren therefore no need to mention 💯🙅♂️

Kingdom come would be a good guide for rpg developers.
@Gaymar Omar most of the game was literally patched in the first two months. sounds like the game was too hard for you.
@Gaymar Omar nobody had any difficulty with lockpicking anymore now that the game is throughly patched. It's a good game, just maybe too much for you.
The problem is the price, you shouldn't have to go into a game with low expectations for that price. If it was 20 bucks then sure.
So glad you said dragon age origins instead of the awful 2 or inquisition fuck those games
The price is fair in my opinion. I had fun with it and it took me 50 hours to finish it.
And yet, despite their issues, nothing gets me as immersed in a game as playing a Bethesda open world (fallout/Elder Scrolls) game.
@@filipealves77 Truly said
The core idea of an RPG is that YOU create a character and YOU are the character, in witcher 3 you are GIVEN this character and you play the ADVENTURES of the witcher, he has a pre determined past, motives and characteristics hell in witcher 3 you even have pre set friends. One way to bypass this is by giving player the choice of freedom like in Fallout 3 in which they can choose their childhood or in Octopath traveler in which you can choose between multiple characters with different back stories and motives (although it still does force you to some extend)

the size of a team has no bearing on if a game is good or bad. especially when they're charging AAA prices. then we expect AAA quality
This developer continues to pump out mediocre games, people are curious what they'd do with a bigger budget but I wouldn't hold out much hope. They put in a lot of things we've seen time and time again, a bigger budget won't necessarily buy better and more creative gameplay.
Depends on which Dragon Age game you talking about. Second one was pretty bad..
If it was cheaper I'd consider it. But its $69.95 AUD. Way too much for a game of this quality.
@Grant Eventyr I would pay $70 for any game that is polished doesn't matter which company made it if I watch a review and it looks polished, $70 is fine. But this game is not polished. I'm not saying it is a bad game I would like to play it but for me with all those issues that Mack mentioned makes me not want to spend 70 bucks. For me, $70 is a polished game.

I've been playing it ever minute I haven't been at work or sleeping and I just can't get enough.

This is all excuses.

One is isometric and turn based, one is real time and 3rd person. You're comparing apples to oranges. Agreed that DOS2 is the pinnacle, though.
(Clearly they had other financing)

I'd love to hear an in depth defence of the game that is in large part responsible for all the issues you rightly complain are ruining modern games. It's a double standard that I've never understood, despite generally finding your reviews accurate and insightful.
@@WorthABuyreviews oh snap did not know you even replied. A bit late for a reply now I guess.
Been waiting for this all week.
Disagree with the thumb down on this one.
Why?
On the Witcher 3 comparison: it's not only that it was crafted with passion, it was also crafted with money. Lots of money. This game was probably made on a budget 100 times smaller
Sigh. Your opinions are not often in line with my own anymore, Mac. Also, nice pre-order hat.
But support AA games! This is Spiders best game by far. Give them money so they can see their true potential...
Soon in RPGs you gonna have to choose gender (male/female) and then a class (male/female/trans/genderfluid/ext.) lol
It makes me wonder if our character will even speak now or if they will just become another silent protagonist. I must say, my excitement for the game has been reduced significantly.
I love your delivery. It's so funny. Thank you.
Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3 are true masterctaft RPG's? Cmon man, you want to prank us or you become so poor in seeing the reality?
What are the best then?
Before I buy a game I come to see if you did a review on it first. Love your content and humor throughout. You are very thorough and I mostly agree with what you say. The only difference is I like magic in games (referencing Total Warhammer review) and you said you didn't so I have to just be aware of your preference when I go through your reviews. As an example, I skipped this game based on your review. Please keep up the great work.
If it hasn't offended any SJWs, then its not Worth A Buy!!!
This has to be one of the stupidest comments I've read in a while.
The game that got Mack to publicly praised The Witcher 3, must be an achievement or some sort. XD
Game developers should be forced to play elderscolls games to learn how to make great game world.. and unimaginative, dull, borning main story. No thx. Not every game has to be skyrim lol.
Thank you. 100%
Thanks for the review Mack. I was going to grab this but I think I'll wait for the price to drop a bit, and maybe an update or two.
Generic Gears 5 Good
Original RPG Bad
Thanks for giving Mack a free copy Microsoft. Looks like it paid off.
Tim Weenie This game is awful though .
@@Achiez-z I actually got this game free too lol
@@Achiez-z Gears 5 was an awful, boring game. Greedfall is fun and interesting.
So being a witcher you have a license to steal?
Mack, if I could never hear you talk about Witcher 3 again, it would be too soon. :)
I love your channel and have donated to you for years now but you sound so foolish whenever you talk about that game. I played it for the first time in the past year (took around 250 hrs for all the content in the base game and the addons)
Just a few reasons why:
- The game *does* have consequences for stealing items.
The difference in quality between the story presentation in this game and other games is like the difference between a high school play and a Broadway musical)
- You're right that the combat is based around attacking and dodging (via rolling on the floor).
Honestly... a Game that only had a Development Budget of 6 Million Dollars they did a pretty damn good Job.
In witcher 3 I couldn't look and be myself this game at least let's me immerse myself.
a very important thing for something calling itself a RPG
@@Charok1 indeed bro
@@Charok1 not when the whole franchise is based of a famous book series centred around 1 main character "Geralt" it makes perfect sense that you can't change who you play
@@XxWolfxWaRioRxX nope it doesn't. they took plenty of liberties with the book. and mass effect was written to look and be basic white guy shep. but that all changed now you can be a ginger or blonde shep or many other things. cause you know what nothing but a pronoun changes when you allow ppl to create they own toon.
Was waiting for review. Thank you!
The video's been out for a minute and there's already a dislike...
Lower the price and it would sell like crazy. People just want new good single player rpgs, instead game publishers give us infinite stream of boring, uninspired live service games with microtransactions.
