I do home brewing, cider making and home distilling. I never wondered if it was cheaper or more expensive than if I would buy the drinks. Even if it would be more expensive than buying, I would still be doing it. Because it’s a very creative and satisfying hobby. Sometimes the results are spectacular (😀), sometimes they’re not so great. You learn every time, even if you’re doing it for years. To me, it's the journey that matters not the destination.
Keep up the good work, I love your channel and I learned a lot from it.
Thanks my dear 🍺 yes 👍🏼 the satisfaction have no price 🥳
I homebrewed for about 15 years before moving onto other things. I started out with the buckets, and bottles, etc. I hated sanitizing bottles and dealing with caps so I went to kegs and that brought on more cost. Then my brewing method went from one burner to two burners, water testing, better fermenters, temperature controllers, yeast starters, etc. Then added pumps. The desire to keep improving my process added more and more cost to my homebrewing. But it was worth the cost IMO. But yes, you can brew beer cheaply for sure. However, its hard not keep improving the process.
😂👍🏼🍺 thanks for sharing your experience. What are you doing now instead of beer 🍺?

Producing and drinking such craft beer is more enjoyable than drinking beer produced by a brewing company. Costs in such a case are of secondary importance. Cheers!!! 🍻
Bravo 🥳👍🏼🍺
Hi, I have had 2 spells of home brewing in my life. Thoroughly enjoyed at the times. I always used bottled spring water, always malt extract instead of sugar. (Sugar gives a headache, malt extract doesn’t).
In my first spell back in 1978 - 1983, I boiled up the grain and hops. Second spell I used Woodford’s kits replicating there range of beers. I always did 5 gallon brews, putting the beer into a plastic barrel
and had a gas bottle to ensure pressure maintained. However, it was the hardware that failed rather than the beer and it became too frequent that the barrel top would split. That second spell was 1998 - 2003.

Welcome 🍺
great job

I recently started brewing again after I had lost interest in it. The tools and equipment got too expensive and the brew day got too time consuming. Today I'm back to basics as in pre-hopped extract kits and extracts, buckets and flip top bottles. Almost no special equipment. Kveik yeast for almost everything (the stuff is just great, makes life so much easier).
Just throwing a kit and some more malt extract together, add some extra hops and crystal malt and the work is done. I'm not trying to recreate crazy craft beers anymore, my new benchmark is just grocery store beer. If it tastes as good, it's a success but most of the time it comes out better. Price point is round about 30€ for 20-25 liters which is not bad at all for a non-industrial beer.
Thanks for sharing your experience 👍🏼🤩🍺 yes 🙂 good final price
I live in Thailand where I locally buy malt imported from my home country, Belgium and pay 125 THB or USD 3.43 Castle Malting Pilsner 2rws for 2.5 lbs... that's the retail price for 1pound but I usually buy 25kg bags which makes it cheaper about 1USD 1 pound or 55 USD for 25kg(55 pounds)
Thanks for sharing your experience 👍🏼🍺🥳
Great video for those who are CONSIDERING brewing their own beer or making their own wine. Two quick thoughts: Price is not really as important as the STARTING COST that someone who has never brewed a beer MIGHT face. And certainly, all the equipment and tools can be used again and again. BUT if you need to buy kettles, burners, fermenters, and bottles, hydrometers and equipment to cap bottles ... THAT can be a bit frightening. BUT, as you say, there is no need to buy EXPENSIVE equipment as if you are a commercial brewery or winery. Begin by making 4 liters (1gallon) and you probably have much of the equipment at home, already.
The other thing is, that even a novice maker of beer or wine maker CAN brew a beer or make a wine that is very much better than any beer or wine that they are likely to buy. So, again, price is really not the main issue, if with basic equipment, and good ingredients and with care, you can brew a fine artisanal beer or wine - if they follow your recipes and your procedures.
Yes 👍🏼 we can make small quantities with the tools that we have at home
In Argentina an average IPA beer is usd 2.80/liter returning an empty beer bottle you have, otherwise you pay the extra. A 475 cc IPA CAN usd 1.60 each. Pilsen is 1 usd per 475 or less when sale is on, so it doesnt make much sense to brew in my case. Also Malbec wines 750 cc start around 3 usd per bottle and are good daily wines. More expensive wines of course for special ocasions are available range 10 usd up. Being a wine producing country prices are affordable.
Ok 👍🏼 thanks for sharing 🍺🥳🍷
Perfect
Please continue to make like this type of videos do's and don't of making bear or wine
Thanks 👍🏼🍺🥳🍷
It depends on how much alcohol is in the beer. When I make imperial stouts, or barley wine I use 3-4 times the ingredients.
Specialty hops and yeast are also more expensive.
Yes 👍🏼 I was speaking about Pilsner 🍺 beer
in our country (czech republic) is making homebrewed beer significantly cheaper than to buy some. considering that you can play with it, make different beers with different flavours etc. it is definitely worthy to start...
Thanks for sharing your experience 👍🏼🍺🥳🤪
Thanks from India. :)

Intresting in 😊😊
Thanks ☺️
Here in the states it is fairly easy to buy used equipment at a good price from those who no longer want to make their own beer and wine.
Good idea 👍🏼 thanks 🍺
my calculation is different:
last session, 26.5 L final produce @6.5%ABV = 34.03eiuro
1 btl coast 64 cents.
malt1=9.504euro
malt2= 1.242euro
malt3=1.29euro
hops=10euro
others flavorings=2euro
yeast= 3euro
water=tap
energy=say 10euro
Thanks for sharing your calculation 👍🏼🙂🍺
In Latvia price for 0.5L bottle which is drinkable is about 1.50Euro. I make my own beer and it is cheep. Only problem for me is - beer in the bag/ filtration. I think about - how to make press for that! Think about it! You finish with mashing and just add everything in fine mesh filter and squizz it with lever... Nice. I use 3 stage filtering and it killing me. I hope I will make it - the perfect quick filter! Thank you! 🍻
sry but it could make more troubles than good imho. coincidentally i read a lot of homebrewing staff yesterday. it needs just time and patience 🙂 eventually they "cut" the mash. but hey, you can try it and let us know. it depends on circumstances...
@@non9886 My method of brewing is time consuming - about 8 hours from start to finish (7,5Liters of beer) and it is not good. Very many peoples try to make it faster/ less efficient process (I have very high conversion rate because I crush everything in powder and it is time consuming too). I prolong mashing and it gives good color/ taste, but... I stuck inside filtration... Of course if you brew with friends/ drink beer and have "party" than beer making process is type of collective "stay high" and no worries... someone will finish all that :). I do it myself. Cheers 🍻
@@Ansis99 try it and you will see...
Let see if I can find a solution 😉

nooooooooo!!!! i can get a pint of big ballard for like $2.95 usd at the corner store😭. i bought a 10lb bag of two row pale malt and started making my own munich/crystal(from it) to make it cheaper but its tough not being able to buy in industrial bulk or at least wholesale. i hate how crafting/diy has become its own industry😅😅
im currently just doing 1 gal batches until i get better at it.
Yes buy a big quantity of ingredients is cheap
Bravo 👏🏼 make a small quantity 😉
To make good cheap beer, use 1 pound dry malt extract, 1 gallon water, and 1 ounce hops. Just a bit over one dollar per pint.
Thanks for the advice 👍🏼
My Chef,
I up-cycled my molasses container of 20l so all I had to do is buy a R30 bubbler,

Same ratio, they have only different shapes

Idk, I am sure it is much cheaper here in Serbia, but for much less money you still can buy a beer. 4,5 l should not be more then 5 E.
Ok 👍🏼 yes it’s less expensive
Depending on the brand, I think you can get beer much cheaper in the store than your estimation...... even in Europe. But of course, with economies of scale of industrial manufacturing, store bought beer per unit could cost less than home made. May be you should make a comparison of artisanal beer in store with the home made one.
The more volume is in he batch, the cheaper per bottle the beer is, but to operate with such big volumes, you need to build a brewery that costs 5+ million Euros.
I made this comparison at the end of the video of the Italian channel, in this video was very difficult to find the price in the states 😬

My friend, You very surprised me with these high prices for all this stuff! I am from Belarus , maybe you know this state, that being under hardest sanction in history, that was imposed your goverment. But nevertheless I get, for example yeast S 04 by 4,61$ for 11,5g (full bag), hop East Kent Golding by 2,61$ for 50g, domestic malt by 1$ for 1kg with grist, belgian malt 2,7$ for 1$ with grist. And I don't even tell about prices for water end energy! My month bill for electricity is maybe 10$, for water maybe either. Refuse of russian gas says in Europe. And that is only begining☝️
