    Hot take: I actually like the iron spider in the mcu. Like I don't really see how it's overdesigned since there's less lines than the stark suit, and the lines on the knees and shoulders actually makes sesne since they could be for extra movement. I also have no problem with the lights since ironman during that time also had lights around his suit. Laslty I just don't see how the suit being cgi is an issue. It's literally a skintight nanotech suit with no wrinkles in it. That's impossible to be made practically

    • @amazingpsm
      @amazingpsm  ปีที่แล้ว +437

      I would argue that both of these have the same amount of lines, but the homecoming suit is a slightly edited classic suit, which automatically boosts it up in quality. While the leg lines may have a use, that doesn't mean that they automatically work into the design. I didn't think about the LEDs that way, that does make them much more tolerable. The suit being CGI is particularly an issue for me because I enjoy the costume making side of super hero movies, and removing that element really takes the fun out of it for me. You could always CGI around a practical suit too, if the suit was real, and Tom only had the mask off, they could have the nanotech CGI come in, then have him wearing the real mask in the next shot.

      @@amazingpsm I kinda see your point, but I just think fabric wouldn't work for this iron spider outfit. Metal has this certain feel and look to it. It's supposed have this heft and look very protective, which can't really be replicated with fabric. No matter how shiny or how much details you put into it, it will still come off across as just shiny fabric, and not this protective armor, which would be more apparent when the suit is next to iron man. I also think having panel lines throughout a suit, especially if it's armored is a must because it adds this layered feel to it, just like how actual armor looks irl. Without it, especially it's a metallic suit, it can make it look sort of uncanny and fake, especially without the wrinkles in the suit. Even the classic iron spider in spiderman ps4 has a lot of panel lines. The reason why the iron spider suit in the comics works so well is because of how it's drawn. It has a lot of shading variety and muscle detail, which adds this angular and sleek look to it, which can't be replicated irl. For me personally, I see panel lining as shading for live action costumes

      @@Optimus_Prime_2007 I kinda disagree. Yes for costumes thst are meant to be fabric, but no for costumes that are metallic or organic looking. If you made the iron spider suit fabric, it would just look like shiny fabric instead of an armor, and if you were to make the symbiote suit fabric, it would lose that other worldly and organic nature to it

Like I think people are starting to forget that superhero movies original intent was to be *adaptations* of superhero comics onto the big screen, not just its own genre for the sake of it. Yeah that’s my line of thinking for making the MCU Iron Spider look like a more traditional design but shiny and high tech. I think it’s the iconography of seeing Spidey in one of the most important moments of the franchise’s history (the endgame battle) so they want him to look like a more easily recognizable Spider-Man as opposed to the comic accurate version of the iron spider. Like what I could’ve seen happening to incorporate the comic iron spider suit into Endgame and then Far From Home is in an extended battle, we see some of Peter’s suit get destroyed throughout the battle, then Tony swoops in and transfuses some of his nanotech suit into Peter’s, giving it more gold and it kinda of morphing into the purely red and gold Iron Spider suit. It could even be that Tony is more injured after his snap bc of the armor he transfused to Peter, making him feel even guiltier about Tony’s death. Then Peter keeps that suit for the beginning of Far From Home, and everyone calling him the next iron man makes sense, but Peter was keeping the suit as a sentimental thing bc Tony literally transfused his nanotech into that suit and has survivor’s guilt

    I always thought there was a missed opportunity from the very start for Spider-Man, one that would have prevented most complaints about Tom Holland’s version of Peter. When looking around Peter’s room in Civil War, Tony should have come across various sketches, equations, and blueprint designs for the Spider-Man outfit, nanotechnology, moving lenses, advanced web shooters, and other iconic Spider-Man equipment. He could say something like “are these your drawings” and Peter would start to try and hide them and play dumb, saying “I’m just a big fan of Spider-Man”. This quick five second exchange would not only make Peter seem more like a genius, but would also remove the idea that everything Spider-Man has came from Tony Stark. Instead, Peter was indeed the one to create his technology, but just didn’t have the funds or access to technology to make them happen. Then, Tony could help Peter make his vision a reality, but in the end, the suit was always Peter’s idea.
    This would also make a lot more sense for a realistic Spider-Man story arc. In all seriousness, how can Peter in the comics, a poor kid from queens, create such advanced web shooters and costumes on his own? By having Stark Industries provide the funds, it would have made more sense, while keeping the fundamental idea that Peter Parker created his own suit.

    What's sad is that in-universe in the MCU itself, Tony Stark is the one who made the "classic design" to begin with so even in-universe, I imagined Tony couldn't be in his right mind to be able to design the comic accurate version when he could just update from the design he had for the other suit to begin with.
    So the design process for the comics version is "How would Tony make a Spider-Man suit" vs the MCU's "How would Tony update his own take on the classic suit to be armored"

    MCU Iron Spider is more akin to the Spider-armour Mk5 (Parker Industries suit).
    The Insomnaic version of the classic armour is the best version. Perfect balance of slightly bulk armour which with a streamlined aesthetic, a hint of an arc reactor the blends into the logo, great paneling that makes sense. If the MCU wanted Peter to stand out as more of an individual during Infinity War while wearing the armour, they could have added black paneling to semi-replicate the classic structure while still retaining the Iron Spider aesthetic
    Edit: Mk4 armour

    Well I always saw the Iron spider suit(comic ver.) as something of a metaphor in civil war, like peter first chooses iron mans side and that suit has the original color patern as iron man, red and gold, and when he goes with Captain Americas side he takes it off. It's like Peter choses what hero he wants to be and not what the others want him to be. In the MCU the iron spider suit its his official avenger suit and not his iron man team suit, and maybe Tony made it look like that because well yes he was Peter mentor and he doesn't want Peter to do the same mistakes as he did. Tony wanted Peter to be his own hero, Spiderman, and not the hero who is mentoring him, Iron man.

But now I don't like the MCU Iron Spider suit because it is so bland and is just a more complex version of the normal suit. Whereas the comic suit looks memorable, unique, and cool despite its simplicity. I didn't even think of how using the comic suit would work better for the narrative like you said but it does.

    • @HK47_115
      @HK47_115 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Narrative or not, you're not going to get the exact same simplistic design to stand out properly in the film as CGI. Carson's like that or really any costume in general for any character of all the signs can work way better in the art style of comic books or even computer graphics for games and they would in films as actual physical assets or CGI.
      If there's one good thing you can say about the actual film suit is that it actually looks like armor. It actually stands out well on film with all that CGI and actually looks like armor. You cannot make a skin suit out of fabric look like armor no matter how hard you try.
      At least not metal armor. Technically speaking if the writers want to they could make something up to where maybe Tony use some special bulletproof advanced fabric.
      I mean it's not like we don't have some of those in real life. And a man likes Tony Stark could definitely make something like that probably way more advanced. But the thing about the soon as it needs to be skin tight while still being metal armor. It is an iron suit made by iron Man of all people of course.
      No I could understand still having your gropes with the design. But my point being is the part where it's supposed to look like a metal suit. Made by the metal suit man himself. And that was not going to translate well with the design everybody wanted. Of course that works in the comic books with the art design. That's not a suit made out of metal. Or at the very least it doesn't look like it. And there's no way that's going to translate well even on the comic books. At least not without the popcorn designer.
      And partially what makes it look like an actual mechanic suit is not making it so skin tights where you can see the muscles. You tell me and real life what type of medicine would be able to do that? That would also be very very pointless to have a suit perfectly match your muscles when at any time they can grow from all the working out you would do in training or shrink if you stood out of the game for too long.
      Like you guys are not really thinking about this suit at all beyond just up it's cosmetic look. And even then you're not thinking that much about the cosmetic look at all.
      again, the color scheme and whatnot I can still understand not liking it. My only point is that it's supposed to look metallic. Not like a fabric suit. You're not going to get the same suit from the comic books and expect it to look right when it's supposed to be a metallic suit. Metallic suits do not reveal your muscles. Metallic suits aren't perfectly shape for your body like a skin tight outfit. And it suit like this for a Spider-Man it's supposed to be very flexible for him well again still staying a metallic nanotech suit

    I agree.
    The comic iron spider looks times better then the mcu version.
    But in there perspective,
    i kinda get why they didn't really picked the more accurate designs.
    Because Tony made also the homecoming suit, and it makes sense that he would incorporates most of the elements of his own red and blue design on the iron spider suit.
    But still, it would have bin visually more of an impact if it was more like the comic suit,
    Because then you could see the huge contrast of being a member of the Avengers.
    Or being that friendly
    neighborhood Spider-Man, who doesn't need all the tech in the world.

Like the redesign Ironman mk1 vs 2 vs 3 in Movies is mind blowing that comic later on adapt and change from metal skin latex suit into more mechanical design. 5:29 I actually disagree, I think caps suit is better in the MCU than it is in the comics
    The scales just look… odd and over designed, there’s too much going on… in the MCU however it looks like something that could have actually been manufactured during world war 2, and improved over the next 80 years, it also just looks a lot more comfortable… and a bit warmer
    Not to mention the white ish lines at the shoulders make sense… he’s Captain AMERICA… red and white stripes are kind of important, and they help make his frame look wider, they make the shoulders pop, helping show him as the symbol he was meant to be for the people of this country, and the helmet instead of a cloth mask just looks way better… especially with the brown strap, it’s more reminiscent of the helmets from world war 2… very different but… it’s reminiscent
    I think it’s one of the best suit adaptations, apart from iron man’s early suits, the hulk (before the dark times) and spider man’s homemade suit at the end of no way home (and yes he absolutely could have made it himself, sewing isn’t that hard)
