    Despite the horror the dinosaurs brought, seeing them burn in the napalm was rather heart wrenching for me. The herds simply grazing, then a flash of orange.... Gone.
    The young Tyrannosaurus eating it's kill, and simply... Fades away in flames.

    The destruction of the island is very meaningful, this is why books are always going to be better than films. Crichton chose to destroy Isla Nublar because it ties up the entire theme of the story: Control. Humans tried to control nature, but nature retaliated, so the only way humans could mend their mistakes was with violence and annihilation. A clean slate. The problem is, Crichton subtly leaves the story open-ended. The humans don't realise that the ultimate mistake was not the dinosaurs existing, but rather their attempts to control nature with science. So after the book ends the reader is left to imagine that humanity will continue this terrible cycle, until it inevitably destroys itself.
    Crichton was an absolute genius.

    I always liked to think that Isla Nublar’s destruction was symbolic, sorta like once the islands gone there’s no more hiding for the Dinos, they can’t have the same “safety” they once had.

      @@kennethsatria6607 it's because they totally miss the point how very much it ties into the whole franchise, back to the first JP. Casual viewers are more likely to miss the themes. It's not all.about dinos. And some hate the characters Owen & Claire, but they're actually well-written. There's more than they care to admit.

    The destruction of Isla Nublar, was the saddest part in the book. When Alan stares out the window to see a group of Raptors ready to migrate; Made me cry.
    To see the last dinosaur before the military destroyed the island, come to make me realize that its an Act of God.
    God didn't want to bring these animals back to the world and the Action of Man to play God is an act of self-destruction.
    Great video :) Can you do a bit where Alan and the gang go into the Raptor nest in the book?

    I remember reading the two novels for the first time in highschool. I remember the part where the young rex was being bombed. If I recall correctly, Tim saw it give out a load cry in pain and agony. That scene has stuck with me for a long time. I wonder if rexy will have a happy ending, a heroic death, or something like the novel. The dinosaurs in the book where slightly more monsterous, but crichton's talent made us feel for them all the same.

    The volcano eruption seems fitting. One of the themes in Jurassic park is the tug of war for control between humanity and nature, and the eruption is like natures final strike to finish the dinosaurs once and for all, and regain all the power to decide what does and doesn't survive.
    EDIT: It is also a second chance for humanity to learn from their mistakes and move on.

    Although I never played it, I heard that in the Telltale game the napalming of the island actually did occur after the protagonists escape. Interesting to think that, for a few years at least, the destruction of Isla Nublar was canon in the book timeline AND film timeline.

    I’ll be honest, I was completely blown away by the ending of the book. Particularly that Ian and Rexy both died. Then, I was ticked off that Ian was brought back to life for The Lost World because I felt like I had went through this whole mourning process only to see that he was brought back with no good explication. The one scene I would love to see played out, although I’m not sure how it would be done, is the realization on Sorna that the raptors were not the pack of caring, parental dinos, but a group that had never been influenced by older generations. That it’s not just biology, it’s also learned behavior.

    • @dionysus6892

      Crichton never wanted to write Lost World, he was convinced to by Cameron and fans to write a sequel. So he didn’t have a solid idea of a sequel when he wrote the ending to Jurassic Park.
      To the credit, it’s never said out loud that Malcolm dies, and Lost World does say Malcolm was very lucky and spent around 2 years recovering.

    When I first got the news that they would end the island... I got excited. I always loved the novels and the way they went with the suspense and the topics they went with... that quote of Malcolm you used in the beginning have me nostalgia from the first time I read the book... and seeing it in Fallen Kingdom was a bold move and also risky one from the cast and crew that helped make this awesome movie... I've seen it recently for the second time and I can see that all of the controversy there is with the movie are actually bad... As in, not good arguments to criticize the movie. I even know how to debate with facts only using what is seen in the movie...
    I see to see the first movie to make my final decision... But for now, Fallen Kingdom is my favorite, until I can watch the original to make sure... it's very hard... and why I love it, beside Indoraptor and everything to do about him, is because it "answers" or continues with topics of the original... Malcolm made the questions in the first movie... And the 5th movie continued the conversation... Leaving the long awaited 6th movie to answer

    Prior to the JW reboot, it's likely that the sterilization of Nublar was at least semi-canonical in the film universe =
    Malcolm's shock that there are dinosaurs still alive in TLW, Hammond failing to mention Nublar when setting up Sorna as a reserve (indicating that there was nothing worth protecting on Nublar), Ben and Eric's dino tour in JP3 having to go all the way out to Sorna in a small boat to see dinosaurs when Nublar is much closer to the mainland.
    And of course, the deleted scene from TLW (which remains in the tie-in comic) where Ludlow states = "...demolition, deconstruction, and disposal of Isla Nublar facilities, organic and inorganic, $126,000,000".

    After the ending of the first book i was glad Micheal Crichton Gave the dinosaurs of isla sorna A chance to live out their life Despite the prions which made for the Most hopeful ending of any of his books because someone like masrani could obviously fix it with money which had me Happy there was a chance

      DenotheFreak but sorna’s still around but it can’t be a sanctuary because it’s also volcanic and would be temporary until the volcano or volcanos on Isla sorna erupted and it would be a useless uninhabitable island as well also sorna is a apparently a waist land covered in ruins of buildings/vehicles and dinosaur bones. P.S do you think the sanctuary island in fallen kingdom was real or fake and if it was fake and would you use Isla sorna as a sanctuary island?

    Saw and loved the movie long before I red the book. Seriously, I literally ruined three VCR-tapes of "Jurassic Park" becaused I replayed it over and over again (I know every line of the film). And when I red the book I became sad because there was so much the film never told :(

    Also of note is the gender bias where the soldier looks at Ellie before immediately deciding "Nah, no way a damn *woman* could be in charge". Yep, JP is set in the 90s allright!

      Look we can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back.
      (aka I think the movie itself addresses that Ellie is plenty capable of getting shit done with just her actions in the story and that one line of dialogue)

    • @mrdrprof99
      @mrdrprof99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KBABZ yeah in the 90s.
      Had this movie been in 2018 like the comment above mine.
      Ellie would have said three times that then rode off in to the sunset on a raptor wih a pink pussy hat while yelling #metoooooo!!!

      @marckrieger3277 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am pretty sure the book is set in the late 80s.
      But this scene shows just the sexism of the fictional costa rica officer (in reality costa rica does not have an army). Criteon wrote ellie as an strong independent women.

    Awesome and powerful video! This ending is truly heartbreaking and symbolic.😥 It's almost worse than what Mount Sibo did. With the Costa Rican Napalm bombing, that was a quick end for Nublar. The volcano truly gave the island a slower death. My opinion at least!

    I'm one of the people who saw the original "Jurassic Park" film first before reading Crichton's first book. When I read the ending chapter of Nublar being destroyed, I'll admit I was taken aback by it at first. But now it's in better context to me thanks to "Fallen Kingdom."

    • @theAsterisk
      @theAsterisk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heh. I saw the film at home in '95- I was only born in '90- and as soon as there was buzz about the second film being made, my mother loaned me her hardcover of the second novel. I read that on the bus in sixth grade, then eventually saw the second film. *Only then* did I read the first novel after seeing how much had changed from Lost World to Lost World.
      I almost never do anything in order. Never the intent, seemingly always the end, though.
      I do love how many moments of reference to the novels are peppered throughout JWFK, but the cinematography is still the most impressive thing to me in the movie. Two-for-one: The carnotaurus fake-out near the end is absolutely wonderful. I found myself grinning and thinking, "You little imps!" at the filmmakers when I realized an instant later how I'd been misdirected by the framing and lighting evoking a visual moment from the second novel.

    • @velociraptor4you3291
      @velociraptor4you3291 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      theAsterisk Nice story! Now for me, it took me a little while to recognize the references from both novels in "Fallen Kingdom." The Carnotaurus scene towards the end being one of them.
