KSound Kaiju Ir wasn’t thrown as fodder, just a s a distraction. The kids didn’t think that the raptor would eat it. They just thought it would give them enough time to escape.
I know the raptors in the original movie were vicious, but the novel versions were just demons. I mean even the Big One wasn't as vicious to her remaining pack mates as these guys.
What? The Big One was way more vicious in the movie. "We bred eight originally, but when she came in she took over the pride and killed all but two of the others" --Robert Muldoon The Big One in the movie killed 6 of her pack mates just to be top dog!
Just like lions if you think about it, when a new alpha male takes over, he kills ALL the lion cubs that aren’t his own and then proceeds to breed new ones with the females.
They had encephalitis from DX (the prion disease) so they probably suffered from debilitating pain and neurological issues before dying fairly young. While they did die young they still lived long enough to breed, but not rear the young properly so the raptors you see in the lost world book were irritable and poorly socialized not to mention malnourished from there being too many raptors and declining numbers of prey resulting in savage (even by raptor standards) animals that barely functioned as a pack.
He survived Tyrannosaur and Raptor attacks while protecting the kids. He is completely professional the whole time despite being injured, he is determined to first contact the boat with the Raptors on board and then count the dinosaurs in the nest despite being in serious danger. A true badass.
One of the many reasons I liked Grant as a character. Not only did he put himself in harm's way and his ingenuity. Ahh the poor baby raptor. I have re-read this scene multiple times.
It depends. I particularly find Grant a bit self-centered and that he only cares about himself more in the novel. In the film, for example, he was also tough when he had the courage to get out of the car with a flare to distract the t-rex and take his attention away from the kids, while in the novel he observed everything in his car without leaving. In this scene, he gets rid of the kidnappers to get rid of his own skin and not be killed by them, for example. But let's say they both had their brave moments, each different moments.
I read the books in 5th grade, before I even heard of the films, and they were amazing. I attribute most of what I am today to them. Malcolm's cynical, cold, and calculating personality opened my eyes to lots of things. And Grant's realization that looking after younger and less capable humans made me take up tutoring. Crichton wrote this book amazingly, and I wish the films were a bit more close to the books. So Klayton, I ask you this: Did The franchise ever teach you something that helped you become who you are today? Keep up the great videos!
In the movie they get rid of the raptors in such an easy way, like a t-rex coming out of nowhere and taking them out by humans, doing the "dirty work". I love how in the novel they themselves have to get rid of the raptors on their own.
Tim and Lex probably didn't expect that the baby would be killed by the Velociraptors, they assumed that they would accept the infant as their own. Unfortunately, the Raptors were more inclined to kill a potential threat over letting it live. I agree that it is sad that the baby had to die, but I am under the impression that the kids really didn't expect the baby to be killed like that.
This is one of the Many scenes that made me love the book. Michael Chriton is an amazing author. Might I suggest his latest release, dragon teeth. It's another book about dinosaurs.
I really enjoy listening to you read. Perhaps, you would be interested in reading the books? You can break the chapters into parts so it stays in your time frame. Any part with raptors in the novel had me on the edge of my seat. Thanks for covering this part. You should do the part where Muldoon nails one with his M72-LAW
You're such an entertaining narrator. 😁 Very good choice of music and sound too! This part of the book was so suspensful and enjoyably unexpected! Well to me at least! 😄
Also, A request? Could you do some more readings on the Lost World novel? The trailer chapters and or the scene where Malcolm and the kids are over looking the dinosaurs in the valley from the high hide? Two of my personal favorite parts :)
The trailer scene I liked a lot in the book. With the unexpected behaviour of the T Rexes to locate their baby with some sense no one knows about. I liked it, because you can really only know the bones and overall structure from the fossils, but they would have more to them, that we can never find out. Animals developed a lot of different senses different to our own, like heat "vision" in snakes, feeling small electrical impulses made by moving creatures in sharks and other fish, birds can probably feel the magnetic field of the earth to help them guide on long distant flights, etc. Dinosaurs could have developed their own special senses and I like the second novel plays with this. You get really the feeling in the books that not even the scientists know what they actually brought back to life there, we have no clue about the abilities, needs and behaviours of those long ago extinct animals, we brought back.
His character is actually a pretty sympathetic and strong one. As I had seen the film first I was ready to dislike him when he pops up in the novel. Yet as I kept reading I realized hey this novel lawyer is actually decent. The weasel in the film is closer to another character mentioned in this video, the PR guy Regis.

This was one of the sections of the book that I regularly reread on its own (surpassed only by my rereading of the Nedry death scene when I was 9 years old). The tension and constant mental calculus as Grant and the raptors play a complex game of chess/cat and mouse was amazing. Pity it never made the final cut of the movie.
The baby raptor’s death was the most heartbreaking death in the novel for me. It was a cute baby almost like a pet in the beginning and was ripped apart helplessly after starving for a day or so alone in the nursery. Injustice...

Have seen the movies zillion times and it still manages to run that chill through me but the way you described the book incident, I have to read it. You created perfect atmosphere. Loved it❤️
Would be cool to one day see this tense scene adapted in some capacity in a future instalment. Be it a spin-off (Camp Cretaceous for ex.) or short film.
Jurassic Alive is out! It is like Pokémon go but legitimately better. Can't wait to see your video on it. And during this scene, all I could think of was "poor eggs" :'(
WowJedi just find the young Owen and he'll teach it pluse it was acting like a kitten. Also blue's not a hell spawn. The reaction from the adults is like throwing a lion cub at an adult and their from different prides
This was so cool. This scene from the book should be in a Jurassic movie. I was so on edge hearing what happens in this portion of the book, it makes me want to read the book now. BTW, I love how scary this book seems to be.
+Z Man7 Not Tim. I was wondering why the raptors did that to the baby raptor. But is that your assumption? That raptors function like male lions? Or is there an actual answer given? Just wondering.
TheBombayMasterTony year response I know, but animals of all forms generally will kill babies that do not have their scent- equating them to a rival pack (any pack that isn’t theirs) or in this case possibly straight up prey being as it likely smelled very human, which they were hunting. It’s extremely rare that a foreign baby is accepted into another pack/herd.
Another fantastic video!! I love the Jurassic Park novels! The imagery was fantastic and each chapter had me on my toes! If they used some of the scenes from the book in movie, no way it would have been PG-13! RIP Michael Crichton
Which one did you prefer? For the longest time I always loved the movies, but then I read the books and I actually fell in loved with the books instead. Either way love your channel!
I love both but I prefer the films. Its how Crichton always intended to tell the story. They wouldn't publish the book unless he made it violent and adult oriented. When Spielberg did the movie he got to tell his kid friendly story
I know you that already covered this on another video; but wouldn't be interesting if we were able to go back in time and make a more book friendly version of the movie we got instead? Or would it be better in your opinion if a fan of the book series made an animated or live action version of the book on the internet instead?
Nothing about the raptors intelligence was thought during that scene, but that there were dozens of eggs and the likelihood of it getting the poisoned egg was very unlikely.
theferretman21 Idk I'd have to disagree. Raptors are smart, but not human level intelligence. It's not too farfetched that a Homo Sapien with knowledge of their behavior could outsmart them. He rolled the injected eggs right towards them at their feet. But to each thier own :)
I havnt read the book but I enjoy the details the book gives because it explains the questions one has about the movies. It’s definitely something to read if your a true Jurassic park fan
So sad to hear the baby raptor died like that. Now I would have actively rooted for Tim and Lex to get eaten after they tossed away the little girl that trusted them and let it get eaten by its kin. :'( RIP Baby Raptor.
Dragon FangX They didn't know the adults would eat the little one. They were just hoping some parental instinct would give them a bit of a distraction. Distraction, yes. Parental instinct... not so much. Peace to that baby raptor, though.
Poor baby Raptor, I saw many comments saying it could've been a predecesor of Blue in the films but, in the film we never see that one baby again so in a way perhaps in the film universe it was. We never see that baby in the first movie after the first one and we know there were many young dinos that were better raised. In a way very similar to Planet of the Apes another film with similar messages to the JC universe as far as how humans treat animals. That baby is the difference between an animal at a zoo raised with love and care and one throne into an attraction without any thought into how it's treated. The events of the film are in many ways a cautionary tale. It begs the question. If the Dinosaur's in the park were created but then treated the same as a dog or cat where we spent time breeding them, training them, domesticating them, if these creatures would have been more docile over time had someone only waited and not rushed it. Or even if they chose to complete the DNA with something else like a gecko. We do this with dogs in some cases. Feral cats can be very aggressive to people but,the kittens of a both a feral and domestic cat have a 50% chance of suffering from behavior problems. The same though goes the opposite way. -shrug- it makes you wander if the trained animals would've been okay if not for people rushing the work or playing with predators before testing the method on something far less scary.
I don't think he did in the movie. Did he? Don't most carnivorous dinosaurs kill their own kind other than Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor? I was only being doubtful.
Klayton Fioriti oh, just wondering. In the film, through the phone where Hammond was talking to Grant, gunshots were heard and screeching noises and screaming, but what happened to the baby raptor in the first film around when Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm alongside Hammond and Wu witness the hatching of one of the raptors for the first time? And after the Gallimimus scene with Rexy tackling one of them, how did Rexy bust in through the visitors center without making any noise though her shadow is seen?
Optimus Prime Actually Tyrannosaurs are known cannibals, while with other carnivorous dinosaurs the subject is more iffy, some show signs of infighting more frequently than others
I haven't read the book since high school, shudder back in the mid 90's lol. But after I watched a video of one of your other readings I found the whole book in an audio version, I started listening to it with my son while driving around, we only get 5 minutes or so at a time but he does ask "story time?" When we go anywhere. So I just wanted to say thank you. If I didn't come across that one video, we may not have those moments.

Have seen the movies zillion times and it still manages to run that chill through me but the way you described the book incident, I have to read it. You created perfect atmosphere. Loved it❤️
Oh yeah I remember that
It started foaming and shit
Man that was weird
Would be cool to one day see this tense scene adapted in some capacity in a future instalment. Be it a spin-off (Camp Cretaceous for ex.) or short film.
sadly camp cret.'s ended and we never got to see it...
Jurassic Alive is out! It is like Pokémon go but legitimately better. Can't wait to see your video on it. And during this scene, all I could think of was "poor eggs" :'(
I'll play it as soon as its out in the USA :D
Raptorus77. Can't make an omelet without poisoning a few eggs
Raptorus77 lame
Raptorus77 do you know when it’s coming out in the US?
All I could think was that poor raptor baby :’(
Great video, Klayton! Readings of the novel are always appreciated!
That poor baby raptor 😭
Jurassic Park is the only book that has ever given me a nightmare. Intense but fantastic read.
Poor baby raptor i would have kept him and ran
WowJedi just find the young Owen and he'll teach it pluse it was acting like a kitten. Also blue's not a hell spawn. The reaction from the adults is like throwing a lion cub at an adult and their from different prides
I would have done the same thing despite shitting my pants, it would have been better to take it than leave it to die
I mean Snakes Kill there offspring Soooooooo.............
They are reptiles
This was so cool. This scene from the book should be in a Jurassic movie. I was so on edge hearing what happens in this portion of the book, it makes me want to read the book now. BTW, I love how scary this book seems to be.
Jurassic park is love Jurassic park is life
And Jurassic Park is also massive death's ;) :P
Another great video! Love how you added the right sound effects for that tense moment!
"wow."
DAYUM🔥🔥🔥🔥 They shoulda put that scene in the movie
That's messed up. Why did they do that to the baby raptor?
Tim didn't expect the adult raptors to eat a baby raptor.
Much like male lions who kill cubs that are not theirs.
+Z Man7 Not Tim. I was wondering why the raptors did that to the baby raptor. But is that your assumption? That raptors function like male lions? Or is there an actual answer given? Just wondering.
That's what I assume, many predators in the wild will kill the offspring of the competition.
@@TheBombayMasterTony well for me it's like Z man7's opinion much but I think because he threw it at the ground thinking Tim is feeding them
I've been travelling for 2 days and I really wanted to hear theses new uploads! I love this scene in the novel!
I can honestly say its a great read and anyone hasnt read it yet they should
Another fantastic video!! I love the Jurassic Park novels! The imagery was fantastic and each chapter had me on my toes! If they used some of the scenes from the book in movie, no way it would have been PG-13! RIP Michael Crichton
There was over thirty from what I remember
Yep! Tons
27 in the end count , 30-34 at the first count.
Just finished the novel. Micheal Critition is an amazing story teller
Those Raptors deserve that and poor baby raptor😢
This is my favorite scene in the book, and most cinematic. Inexplicable it never got in the movies.
God, Grant was such a badass in the book
Nothing about the raptors intelligence was thought during that scene, but that there were dozens of eggs and the likelihood of it getting the poisoned egg was very unlikely.
theferretman21 Idk I'd have to disagree. Raptors are smart, but not human level intelligence. It's not too farfetched that a Homo Sapien with knowledge of their behavior could outsmart them.
He rolled the injected eggs right towards them at their feet. But to each thier own :)
Axiom Ape I didn't say a human can't outsmart a raptor, I said their were to many eggs rolling around for the plan to work.
Were you the one that replied to me on that Tommy H video.
The other eggs didn't fall to the floor until after the 2nd raptor ate the poisoned egg.
lopaka76 thats what I'm talking about, why eggs couldn't be used on the third raptor.
I havnt read the book but I enjoy the details the book gives because it explains the questions one has about the movies.
It’s definitely something to read if your a true Jurassic park fan
I just started reading this book so far I’m loving it
So sad to hear the baby raptor died like that. Now I would have actively rooted for Tim and Lex to get eaten after they tossed away the little girl that trusted them and let it get eaten by its kin. :'(
RIP Baby Raptor.
Dragon FangX They didn't know the adults would eat the little one. They were just hoping some parental instinct would give them a bit of a distraction. Distraction, yes. Parental instinct... not so much.
Peace to that baby raptor, though.
Kindness of their heart? They sacrificed the baby to save themselves. They knew it was afraid but didn't care
Honestly I wouldn't have cared if Lex died since she was such a little bitch in the book.
In the movie no..but in the book...😮
I remember reading this scene in the book, so weird but great.
Dr. Grant has had a brush with death wayyy too many times.
Love the in depth videos. Gets me even pumped up for jurassic world
I haven't read the book since high school, shudder back in the mid 90's lol.
That was terrifying and awesome at the same time it’s terrisome
Dude, your channel is so underrated! Keep up the great work!
Love your videos man, always watching your channel before going to school! Starts up my day right :-)
Hey thank you! I greatly appreciate hearing that! Glad you like them!
