This is by far the scariest part of the Novel. Been stalked by an animal that can camouflage both daytime and nighttime. The perfect predator that can kill their prey without being seen.
Fun facts about Carnotaurus: they had flexible skulls, much like modern snakes. Good for swallowin' small prey/large chunks of meat whole. They were ambush hunters, and would charge at their prey with great speed (a hypothesized 30-35 mph). In other words, they were basically the modern day cheetah, with the body of a dinosaur and snake for a head.

That's pretty much the thesis of the book, that when things they bad they tend to get worse rapidly until either the situation/system collapses or a new stability is reached (not without loss or consequence). I just finished re-reading it and the graphic configurations make it quite clear. As the story progresses, the comfigurations grow and begin to take a fractal shape - but as plot threads are set up, and details are solidified, the butterfly effect sweeps the events towards "the chaotic edge." [Book spoilers] For example, the arrival of Dodgson & Co. on the island sets into motion a chain of events that leads to King being eaten by velociraptors that Dr. Levine & the kids were observing from the high hide. One of the raptors eats a candy bar that King was about to eat, and is noted as apparently enjoying it. Later, the raptors use the game trail and pass by the high hide unaware of its existence - until the last raptor sniffs around its base and finds a candy wrapper that Levine had dropped earlier. The butterfly effect in action - had King not brought that candy bar, or perhaps a different snack, not only would Eddie have survived, Arby wouldn't have been kidnapped by the raptors (stuck in a cage), and the raptor chase sequences and attack on the village wouldn't have happened. Not that it would've been a good time anyway, considering the Rexes would have still destroyed the trailers and almost killed Malcom and Harding... but still, the majority of the third act can all be traced back to an extremely minor decision that the main cast had absolutely no control over and no way to predict.
What’s scarier is we didn’t even see the whole island.Meaning there could be more dinosaurs we didn’t see.I headcanon Baryonyx being on site B.I see it going like this: We see Malcolm and the group going along the terrain, trying to find a river exit. They find one and start going along on a makeshift raft. They have to pass through a long section of cave, where they can see large side water bodies and passages. As they raft along, they decide to turn on the flashlights, having passed the entrance and now out of sight of the sun light. Before they do so they hear a plopping sound.Levine asks what that is, with Malcolm replying probably nothing. They hear it again and switch on the light where they heard it, to see that it was a fish swimming to the surface to snag a piece of floating vegetation. They think nothing of it, and continue along. However they discover that there is a dead end and so after arguing begin to turn back. They start doing so, until Arby hears another sound. He turns his flashlight on, and sees something that looks like a log a good distance away. His light flickers, and when he shines it again the log is gone.As he’s about to tell the others, the raft is violently rammed. No one falls in the water yet, but they stop and shine the lights everywhere. There in front of them is something that looks crocodile like.Until Levine realises it’s a Baryonyx. It rears out of the water, in full view of the light. It is about ten metres long, with a pale white colour almost grey. It’s head is extremely crocodile like, with scuts on its back. The teeth are longer then they should be, with a long extending tongue, and it’s arms end with sharp claws that seem to be partially splitting to reveal new digits,It roars, and the people at the front of the raft move further back instinctively, until a loud scream is heard.Behind them, another grabs Levine. It drags him away as they watch in horror.Meawhile the first one is being beaten back with the makeshift oars by Malcolm and Sarah, until it disappears away into the water. They leave the cave tunnel, dimly hearing levines screams and then the sound of crunching before the cave goes silent again. After this they discover in the main control room when digging through the files that Ingen cloned them, however due to their tendency to fill in the blanks of the DNA extracted from amber, the Baryonyx didn’t come out normal. They were sensitive to sun light, hence why they were in the caves. They used saltwater crocodile DNA, causing the crocodile features. And because of the even more incomplete DNA then usual, they ended up with extreme agression and a tendency to dry out, requiring them to spend more time in water from the frog DNA.Therefore Ingen left them there as they were too unstable for the park.
Scary and terrifying, I wish they did put this scene in the movie, that would be the scariest game of hide and seek or in this case hide hide and go shrink, but I got a good one for you, which top 10 prehistoric animals from any time period would you like to see in Jurassic park movies.
I could totally see that carnotaurus in the movie their territory should have been the communications Center... Malcolm Sarah and Kelly come running up.they see the helicopter and Nick gesturing telling them to hurry up that's when Malcolm stops them because he notices there's something wrong about the front of the building. somethings moving! it's at that moment when a Carnotaurus makes itself known and kills Nick..or maybe some of the hunters made out of the long grass like Ajay and then get eaten at the Communications Center by the Carnotaurus
I like it, but it needs some previous scene to help set up the existence of the Carnotaurs. Like how the Carnotaurs attack Levine and his guide near the start of the novel.
@@mame9562 the InGen team could've wranged a carno instead of the pachy... or have one kill the dude while he's pissing rather than the compys. not that the compy scene is bad but it could be a lot cooler if they did a similar kind of shot to the "clever girl" scene but with the carno becoming slightly visible before chomping down.
It’s been revealed that they were planning to add a “Super raptor” to that very part of the movie. I wonder if they had it gotten the camouflaging ability if it were in the movie.
I like two things about this scene. For one, it's implied that even the Rex has something on the island to "fear". Secondly, the Carnos are ousted by the flashlights. I like not every dinosaur in the series being some implacable killing machine; in real life animals are frequently "displaced" by threat displays from animals they could almost certainly kill in a straight fight. For instance, a black bear scurrying away from from a tiny old lady waving her arms and yelling. Or a honey badger chasing off a lion. I think it's entirely plausible that these predators could be unnerved by a bunch of unfamiliar animals boldly invading their territory and engaging in a bright threat display that likely hurts their night vision and invalidates their camouflage.
Much better to read it or listen to the audiobooks. I have only read the books, many many years ago. A few weeks back i listened to the audiobooks and they are fantastic.
It turns out that these were the animals that attacked Levine once he had reached the island, leading to the death of his guide Diego and leaving him stranded until the others arrived. I read the novel before seeing the movie so you can imagine my disappointment when these brilliant scenarios turned out to be omitted entirely until Jurassic World reshaped the camouflaging hunter concept into what is now the Indominus rex/similar hybrids.
I love the Carnotaurus. A Chameleon type Dinosaur? Amazing. Would you do a history of Carnotaurus or perhaps play the Lost World arcade game? Both would be beyond amazing. Thank you for the amazing video.
Haha thanks man! And I actually did a History of Carnotaurus video a few months ago but I WILL be playing The Lost World Arcade game within a month or so if everything works out :D
This is my FAVORITE scene in The Lost World. This was my introduction to the Carnotaurus. Of course... it didn't have this camouflaging ability, but holy hell did Crichton write this well.
It's kind of interesting how the T-Rex was basically afraid of the Carno in the book, whereas in Fallen Kingdom, it attacked the animal, twice, without hesitation.
Clearly in the novel the Rexes were freaked out by the Carno’s chameleon abilities and therefore their smell was enough to make the former cautious. The Fallen Kingdom Carno on the other hand is an ordinary mid-size theropod that lacks any such ability and therefore doesn’t register as much more to Rexy than a random nuisance to be rid of.
@Dinoslay would be dope if we did get a scene of them in any future film or short. Would be fucking baller actually. A dog escapes off a leash and runs into the woods behind someone's house, the boy who takes care of the dog runs out after him. But stops, as far in the distance beyond the tree line is his dog in the mouth of something he can't see. Fading back into darkness, or so he'd think. Literally brilliant ideas came from Michael
Both of these books are so good. I have read and listened to them both multiple times. I really wonder how many crazy dinosaur features there were that we will never know about. I wish that we could send cameras back in time just to watch these animals and bring them back.
I always love these videos based on parts of the novel. I first read this part of The Lost World in the middle of the night. Just made it more tense. Loved it.
Great video, I love that Crightons animals in his books have special abilities, it let's you know that he wants to make sure that people are interested, I personally loved that scene in the book but I thought that carnosaurus could have had more scenes in the book, again great video, I can't wait to see what you're going to do next.
Awesome video, I SO would've liked to see this in the movie! I also realized that the picture of the Carno you used at 6:08 is the Carno from the work in progress Jurassic Park 4 trailer! Awesome!
The way you've edited the sound effect of the carnotaur's breathing and the background music along with me imagining being at the entrance of just a shed hearing this has given me the chills man...brilliant
You should a narration of both JP books. I'm sure thats probably too much work but I really love your videos talking about scenes from the books. Even though I've read it twice I would love to hear an audiobook!
I was a little surprised to learn that a Tyrannosaurus stayed out of the area, especially considering that it way bigger than the carnivores who occupy it.
We need this in Jurassic World 2! Since the director said he was reading Crichton's novels, I think this has a good chance of happening in JW: FK. Also great video!
I loved that the carnotaurus was featured in the Lost World arcade game. Where these dinosaurs in the books changed colors when light hit them, the carnotaurus in the game politely revealed itself before attempting to attack.
This scene reminds me of the beginning to the Disney dinosaur movie. Where the baby dino is chasing a bug and goes into the woods and a carnotaur is right in front of it but it's hidden. That scene scared the crap out of me as a child, well that creature in general did lol.
These dinosaurs are probably my favorite part the novel! The description of two dinosaurs were fantastic. Really wish they used this dinosaur was used a lot more
Dude you need to do a audio book of this love your voice makes the book awesome loved listing to this and the comics while i build my models keep up the great work mate
I guess it has the ability to camouflage in JWFK. Reason: It's an open plain, with a little bit of florest on the sides. How none of the characters haven't seen it ? It was probrably using camouflage.
TheGIGABR2004 up till now, none of the toys or pretty much anything reveal that detail. Most likely it doesn't have that. They gave that too indominus :(
TheGIGABR2004 They didn't notice the rex either which is like twice it's size. Also didn't see it on an open field because of camouflage? It would only work in area with tall grass or a forest where it can blend in. I think you are mixing up camouflage and invisibility spell. Chameleons can camouflage but that doesn't mean they turn invisible. They are just harder to see in an area where they blend in like leaves when they turn green.
Have to agree with Damn Son. Even the Carnos in the novel are said to not hunt during the day because it's harder to camouflage or something like that which is the reason the raptors attack the group the next morning. But then again, the movie is entirely different than the novels, maybe we'll see some Carno camo in the next movie.
Nailed it K. "The Lost World" is an incredible sequel novel. Stronger than the original in a number of ways. The Carnotaurus reveal (after the initial Diego mishap) just brings a new threat to the table... although largely unseen. Brilliant work and I cannot understand why Spielberg and co. didn't adapt the novel properly. It's a masterwork of sci-fi. I don't get it. You have 2x books that are classics in their own right... yet producers/directors throw it all away. Such hubris.
such amazing camoflauge, AGH! I would have loved to see that on the big screen! now don't get me wrong, it was cool to se the indominous do that and all, btu this was so much more horror movie-esc and I just, AGH! damn just one time! i'll take it in animated form too!
You know i wanted the new jp films to have this feel and mystery in a more saturated and creepier tone it deserves in turn with its taste of suspense. Its what i wanted even the trending horror genres to have as well but with hollywood nowadays, i feel we may of yet have something as unique like how you made your videos in that light and i'm loving every bit of it
Wow, this would have been a great scene to include! I honestly have never read either book completely, but I appreciate you sharing these note worthy portions. You do a great job narrating as well! Keep up the great content!
I absolutely *loved* this scene in the book. It was so creepy, really makes you hold your breath through it, even on rereading. One correction, though: it was the village convenience store, not the lab. 😋
Update: im level 11 now in JPB and close to get the Spinosaurus!!!! Also, awesome video man, the eary music, your kinda scary narrative voice, oh man the perfect mix to an semi-dark and scary video

I’ve only watched JP and JW but I’ve pretty much watched all the videos you’ve made so far, you’re very passionate and descriptive and that’s one of the many reasons I keep coming back 👍🏻 I’m looking forward to watching the new installment of the JP series and possibly watching the other two previous movies/original books. Keep up the great work!
That was so suspenseful. I think Spielberg felt bad about leaving out the camouflage scene in the novel, so he put it in a similar story, but with the indominus rex.
The pic of the eyes scared the hell outta me! My back was turned to my tv because I was doing laundry and ofc when I turned back around all I saw was scared eyes! I literally jumped lmao but good narration btw klayton! You should do more of these ✌️
One of my FAVORITE moments I've heard about from the books. Suspenseful and brings true horror to this horror story. This scene NEEDS to be replicated. IF it's not gonna happen in a film then someone make a short film on it.
Hey Klayton, really enjoying your channel man. Finally I have found someone that shares the same passion I have for the JP franchise. Have you noticed that nearly all dinosaurs that were gonna be in the original Park (according to the map) with the exception of Segisaurus, Parasaurolophus and Brachiosaurus are featured in the new Mattel toyline? Fingers crossed that we get all of em! Keep up the great work!
You just spoiled this scene for me, I haven got there yet! Haha I'm kidding. I agree with you, it is really short in the novel but the scene is so good just sooo good... seeing the effects you did gives chills, but for any one out there that never read the novel; get out e read it! You have to! P.S: Commenting on this scene, knowing that the director for the new movie is a genius in horror films... What are the odds of having this scene with the Indominus Raptor? Fingers crossed!
Klayton Fioriti I agree! I remember dreaming with this as a kid... I had this book when I was around 5 and even since I read it, occasionally, still after all these years, I have a dream about being chased by two carnotaurs in an abandoned city with fog, trying to save a girl. I can never figure out who she is, but all I remember is that it is far two real and that I felt like I was being chased for hours! And yes, I've read it really young haha as soon as I could read without help XD
Technically Jurassic Park was turned into a manga but it was a Japan only release. Its extremely rare and theres barely any record of it existing..I think it was only for the movie version though
The drawings of the Carnotaurs look too chameleon like, the eyes at least. Story and the way you told it was very creepy and unsettling. Great work again, Klayton
They should've used the light flickering camo-causing thing for an Indominus Rex sequence. I could see Zach and Gray doing something similar to trigger the camouflage from the Indominus Rex. Ah well, maybe somewhere down the road, if they choose to make more of these movies. I hope that the Crichton Estate does sell the rights to make more films, spinoffs and video games. I LOVE this franchise!! Always have, always will!!
Thanks for refreshing my memory, I've forgot that there were actually two Carnos there. It's been far too long that I've read all the JP books (despite the third one is just the movie script novelized into a book, but has that nice second part, where we see the events from the POV of Eric Kirby).
This is one of the most iconic scenes from the book. I actuality couldn’t believe it when I first red it, I believe I’ve red it three times in a row. It was so suspenseful.

Haha thanks man! And I actually did a History of Carnotaurus video a few months ago but I WILL be playing The Lost World Arcade game within a month or so if everything works out :D
Klayton Fioriti
Oops, I guess I forgot about that.
I'm glad to hear you're going to play the game, it was a large part of my childhood.

Carnos: OOOOOOOO thank u
This was a super surprise when I read the novel really wish it hadve been in the film the way the book portrayed it would be a perfect scene imo
Do you wanna set up base camp or a buffett
Lets find a new spot! Shall we
Klayton Fioriti wait for me. I'm coming to
Ive been on too many safari's with rich dentists to listen to any more suicidal ideas.
Roland okay. Ludlow okay?

This is my FAVORITE scene in The Lost World. This was my introduction to the Carnotaurus. Of course... it didn't have this camouflaging ability, but holy hell did Crichton write this well.
It's kind of interesting how the T-Rex was basically afraid of the Carno in the book, whereas in Fallen Kingdom, it attacked the animal, twice, without hesitation.
I thought about that also lol
I LOVE THE PICTURE OF THE CARNO AT 5:53
Both of these books are so good. I have read and listened to them both multiple times. I really wonder how many crazy dinosaur features there were that we will never know about. I wish that we could send cameras back in time just to watch these animals and bring them back.
Would you have liked an Ankylosaur to attack a beach party
I really wish this was in the movie, it would be so much more scary to see two Carnos seeking the humans out from a far
I loved this, great narration. I hope we get to see something like this in JWFK.
love the background music while you narrate !
I always love these videos based on parts of the novel.
I first read this part of The Lost World in the middle of the night. Just made it more tense. Loved it.
0:17 that is one of the best pics i have ever seen
I would pay for that along with eerie sounds of everything. It captures it so well.
The picture at 3:45 is scary as hell.
😨😨😨
I havrnt seen it yet ahhh
Ehh not scary
Kawaii 🥰
Na 5:41 is scary AF
This part of the book was amazing. So chilling! Can u imagine a scene like this in a movie?? Would be so cool. Great video as usual!
I was a little surprised to learn that a Tyrannosaurus stayed out of the area, especially considering that it way bigger than the carnivores who occupy it.
Favorite island, favorite sequel, favorite dinosaur. Thank you for your wonderful work klayton.
Broooooo I was so lit you got me so spooked I actually got anxiety 😭
What I love about this franchise is that it feels so real.
We need this in Jurassic World 2! Since the director said he was reading Crichton's novels, I think this has a good chance of happening in JW: FK. Also great video!
2:36 dramatic close up
I loved that the carnotaurus was featured in the Lost World arcade game.
That scene scared the crap out of me as a child, well that creature in general did lol.
i love when u say things from the novles plz do this more !!!!!!
These dinosaurs are probably my favorite part the novel! The description of two dinosaurs were fantastic. Really wish they used this dinosaur was used a lot more
You should consider reading the books on tape because the way you describe the stories you really pull me into that situation
This scene was crazy in the book, and your story telling made it even better
Dude this carno actually sounds terrifying
So I know Bestinslot already did it, but it would be interesting to see you read Dogdson's death.
Maybe further down the road but I think its too soon to do it just now :)
Yeah
I'm new to your channel and am liking it a lot.
Hey thanks man! Welcome to the Channel! :D
Dude you need to do a audio book of this love your voice makes the book awesome loved listing to this and the comics while i build my models keep up the great work mate
I guess it has the ability to camouflage in JWFK.
Reason:
It's an open plain, with a little bit of florest on the sides. How none of the characters haven't seen it ? It was probrably using camouflage.
TheGIGABR2004 up till now, none of the toys or pretty much anything reveal that detail. Most likely it doesn't have that. They gave that too indominus :(
I agree, it probably won’t have it.
Well the camoflauge Carnotaurus is featured in the lost world arcade game as a boss
It's thanks to your channel, that I bought and read both jurassic park novels. They were fantastic! I loved them and I love this channel
such amazing camoflauge, AGH! I would have loved to see that on the big screen! now don't get me wrong, it was cool to se the indominous do that and all, btu this was so much more horror movie-esc and I just, AGH! damn just one time! i'll take it in animated form too!
Sasuke Uchiha where did the thumbnail pic come from?
Sasuke Uchiha nvm I know now no need to answer
You know i wanted the new jp films to have this feel and mystery in a more saturated and creepier tone it deserves in turn with its taste of suspense. Its what i wanted even the trending horror genres to have as well but with hollywood nowadays, i feel we may of yet have something as unique like how you made your videos in that light and i'm loving every bit of it
Wait a second, you said at the end that there’s also a camouflaging velociraptor? That’s more terrifying than the carnos!
Now this is scary the Indoraptor had none of this going on
Wow, this would have been a great scene to include! I honestly have never read either book completely, but I appreciate you sharing these note worthy portions. You do a great job narrating as well! Keep up the great content!
Awesome dude great video as always!
The texture camo of the Carno is probably cuttlefish, they are the only ones I immediately think of that can do that.
I absolutely *loved* this scene in the book. It was so creepy, really makes you hold your breath through it, even on rereading.
One correction, though: it was the village convenience store, not the lab. 😋
Update:
im level 11 now in JPB and close to get the Spinosaurus!!!!
Also, awesome video man, the eary music, your kinda scary narrative voice, oh man the perfect mix to an semi-dark and scary video
Thank you for adding that carno breathing aduio to add to the intensity of you retelling that part of the book
Love these videos where you read us a scene from the books, complete with the visuals, tense music and sound effects! Keep them coming :-)
You really peaked my interest in the Jurassic Park series that I never thought I would ever have.
I remember first watching you and you had
only 24K subs, Now you have 58K!!! That's crazy!
Thanks for sticking around! :D
Now 304K!!!
Don't move, they can't see us if we don't move.
- Carnotaurus
That was so suspenseful. I think Spielberg felt bad about leaving out the camouflage scene in the novel, so he put it in a similar story, but with the indominus rex.
I like how the Carnotarous can camoflauge and I hope they have that in JW2
Great scene and very well narrated... Both in the book and in this video. Terrific dino suspense...
The pic of the eyes scared the hell outta me! My back was turned to my tv because I was doing laundry and ofc when I turned back around all I saw was scared eyes! I literally jumped lmao but good narration btw klayton! You should do more of these ✌️
Great video, Klayton! I'm eager for the JW: FK Carnotaurus! This part was so iconic that I didn't even realized it was only four pages!
Wouldve been an amazing scene of suspense on film. Amazing job telling it man. Crichton was a genius.
Absolute favorite scene. Loved your rendition of it, very well read.
Great video!! I’m glad you posted as I felt withdrawals!!
I love hearing the reading from the books. That is an amazing scene. Thanks for making it a video :)
One of my FAVORITE moments I've heard about from the books. Suspenseful and brings true horror to this horror story. This scene NEEDS to be replicated. IF it's not gonna happen in a film then someone make a short film on it.
Carno attack + first person shooter = being told to keep down my childhood screams from my mom.
lol
Man, that was one hell of an effect when the lab lights came online, well done
Hey Klayton, really enjoying your channel man.
Finally I have found someone that shares the same passion I have for the JP franchise.
Have you noticed that nearly all dinosaurs that were gonna be in the original Park (according to the map) with the exception of Segisaurus, Parasaurolophus and Brachiosaurus are featured in the new Mattel toyline? Fingers crossed that we get all of em!
Keep up the great work!
I have indeed and I think its awesome! :D
Thanks for the kind words man!
Star wars fans: I wanna go to hoth!
Harry potter fans: I wanna go to hogwarts school
jurassic park fans: NO!
Exact
You just spoiled this scene for me, I haven got there yet! Haha I'm kidding. I agree with you, it is really short in the novel but the scene is so good just sooo good... seeing the effects you did gives chills, but for any one out there that never read the novel; get out e read it! You have to!
P.S: Commenting on this scene, knowing that the director for the new movie is a genius in horror films... What are the odds of having this scene with the Indominus Raptor? Fingers crossed!
I would love to see it adapted in any format haha! Its such an excellent piece of JP History :D
While I was reading the novels I would watch his videos. Any time I thought it would be spoiled I clicked on a new video. Haha
Thank you again for the great video, you help keep my love for dinosaurs alive
Klayton uploaded. *cracks knuckles* Time to enjoy some quality content >:D
😂 Thanks haha
I loved this part of the book! Went back and read the entire book again after your video on the high hide.
Wow! Thats awesome to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D
You ever think maybe one day these books could get a graphic novel adaptation? It would be pretty neat.
Technically Jurassic Park was turned into a manga but it was a Japan only release. Its extremely rare and theres barely any record of it existing..I think it was only for the movie version though
MrAwesomeness360 that would bee pretty awesom
Klayton Fioriti how did Claire know blue was alive on the island
Theres a guy whos done a couple of scenes from the book that are pretty cool th-cam.com/video/MyyHEVmn8bE/w-d-xo.html
The drawings of the Carnotaurs look too chameleon like, the eyes at least. Story and the way you told it was very creepy and unsettling. Great work again, Klayton
I love how this carnotaurus uses mimicry to hunt down its food and to cause unfathomable fear for any unwanted guests
Very well done, love the suspenseful storytelling!
Just Thinking Of This Makes Me Look Around My Room Praying That The Carno Won't Come Out And Eat Me!
I gotta say, your editing for storytelling is great
They should've used the light flickering camo-causing thing for an Indominus Rex sequence.
The carnotaurus was also in the game.
@@cypa9948 Lost World Jurassic Park.
This is one of the most iconic scenes from the book. I actuality couldn’t believe it when I first red it, I believe I’ve red it three times in a row. It was so suspenseful.
i like the way you put a Horror background music.... GREAT VIDEO
Great video! This was a much better reveal than the one in Jurassic World .
Excellent video. The way it's presented and your thoughts on it at the end are well done.
