- Established as a college in 1841 through a royal charter, Queen's became one of the earliest Canadian institutions to admit women. With the risk of financial hardships plaguing the school in the 1880s, Queen's flirted with the idea of merging with UofT. Eventually receiving a sum of money from a wealthy benefactor, Queens maintained its independence and achieved University status in 1881.
The Milkman took to Kingston to find out what it's like studying at Queens and a few things became evident: if you can survive the May flies and brisk weather, this may just be the campus for you.

What is/was your experience at Queens?
milkmanTV I’m currently at queens and I really hate it tbh. The people here aren’t very friendly, and if you’re poc you’ll struggle A LOT with life on campus. Everyone dresses and acts the same 😪 ain’t no flavour in anything including the food

So far so good (Commerce Frosh). The atmosphere here is amazing and welcoming (both in general and as a minority). Past incidents have plagued the reputation of the school; however, the resources and the general open-mindedness at this university have made this place what it's meant to be, personally. Food is hit or miss (haha) but my friends at other universities admire how our meal plans work. "Party university" status meets or exceeds expectations, but there's a place for everyone here, whether or not you like to party.

The atmosphere here is so different compared to UofT!
Its so much more vibrant and alive, whereas UofT was so nerdy (in a bad way)
Hipsty Hopsty I went there to look at their Law Schools and I was like nope. I will go back to Nova Scotia. Plus I was staying at St. Hilda’s College and man it was hot and there were several heat waves. Did I mention the tuition cost?

Mayflies were not evident in the 80's as you are describing here. But yellow-jackets during frosh week, esp around garbage bins were awful.
Sometimes I wish i had finished Uni and not dropped out. A decade later and I still regret missing out on ALL those experiences and skills you learn.

@@trianshbhatnagar6451 I can completely understand! Western has a large international group and many people Ii know have traveled overseas. We have an amazing international centre set up to ensure you have an amazing time!! Please look into western, I think you would be very happy there :)

Engineering is good at Queen’s but the university is such a den of “woke” including a major part of the faculty that there are many other Canadian universities that I would recommend before Queen’s.
Every university is woke though, some albeit more than others like laurier is more woke. Any non-woke recommendations
