    That air chisel, sounds the same as when the trailer was manufactured. If you cover the fridge door in wood to match, fake the two doors onto the existing door shell.

      That would definitely be awesome. Even if they did all the different shows. Heck, first hand knowledge and information would be better than a "cash" donation. If anyone had information to share, it'd be the studio and the staff. That would limit the fishing process of information.

    I believe the hole in the floor would have been for a table. You can see the screw holes around the hole for fixing the base of the table. The table would have a single post that slots into the base. You find these tables often used in campers as they can fold away.

    • @egriff11
      @egriff11 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes but they do not require a hole to be drilled. The just have the mounting plate attached to the floor.

    • @stevefarrage
      @stevefarrage ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@egriff11 actually they do. It's quite common. I would agree that some do not. However, you can get flush mounted options that need a hole for the post.

    Look under the trailer. Maybe the winch was mounted under it with the cable coming up through the hole. It would take less bracing to do it that way.

    That hole in the deck may very well have been the winch mount and the wall was for pulleys to the overhead as the winch welded to a steel plate and mounted through the deck with another steel plate below the deck would be the strongest winch mount location and the FX guys would have over engineered any components vital to keeping production on schedule

    Have you considered contacting other TH-camrs who do restoration videos to help with the props you have acquired? It would bring attention to your venture as well as promote their channel in return. Also the mini kitchen door could be dressed to look as if it had the split doors since you are covering the steel door anyway, the base may support the slit design as most rv appliances are universal in nature. The joy of mass manufacturing.

  • @williammitchell4417
    @williammitchell4417 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    His reaction is priceless. Yet it's logical that the studio would mark the trailer in the ceiling. As you've pointed out about KITT in the past, for example the scanner bar would be marked so you would know which car it came from.

    I bet the hole in the floor was for a table. It's long been a common thing for RVs to have a chromed, die cast socket that sets into a hole in the floor, with a round, square, or rectangular flange that screws down. The table is supported on a thin wall, steel tube that's slightly tapered on the ends. The socket on the underside of the table is also a die casting that screws to the surface.

    The original lights was incandescent type that are prone to burning out. In order so you, or others, don't have to replace the lights after the restore is competed. I strongly recommend a buck/boost DC-DC converter set to 12v. This will prevent over-driving the lights with 13.6v to 14v, the common cause of them burning out within a year of normal use. The converter can easily be hidden in the walls or other hidey hole.

    Might be a vent hole for deep cycle batteries. Depending on the voltage could have 2
    6 Volts batteries = 12 V.
    Or they might have had a charger or plug to charge up the batteries before usage, dropping a plug down the hole too.
    Measure a charging plug see if it fits in the 3 inch hole Joe.

    When they make alterations to Props and Set pieces, it's called 'Scenic-ing' for example, you might have a bag with a shiny buckle - and you can imagine that is going to light up like the sun under the bright Studio lights. So they would have the Buckle dulled to look tarnished somehow and thus 'Scenic-ed' , or, what I would called 'Relic'ed' as it concerns to Vintage Guitars.

    Given that you're going to be making this visually as accurate as possible to the show, as far as the interior goes/with the lounge, how wedded to the idea of mechanical accuracy are you to the winch and its functionality? Would you consider a different winch setup if it gave you the same functionality (i.e. back ramp up/down etc.), but was more efficient to install/modify/maintain?

    I think they did use the cordless phone base on the show,. It was slightly modified/painted and counter sunk into the table top. Certain details of the original base can be seen.
    In the image from the show you can see the large button with grooves in it has been painted black and matches the large button on the base you have. The smaller button that is beside the larger one and other details are simply blocked in the image by the phone sitting in the base.

    I believe the Shrink wrapped Parcel you brought is the new Exhaust

    Potentially a pulley reduction going on behind that false wall, there would be a LOT of weight in that door plus the kinetic weight when it was dropping

    The question is: why would they put linoleum in a trailer?

    If you cant find the correct kitchenet, you could get a second handle and create faux double doors with the wood paneling.

    Apart from the mark on the floor I'm not sure why you seem to think the winch would have been at floor level. I can see that they may have felt it necessary to place the reinforcing wall at the front like you say, but if I was building it, I would have put the winch at the top as you are proposing anyway, it would be much simpler, and there would have been more room in the trailer if they wanted to transport stuff. The whole system might not have been as heavy as you think, you already have a fold down door that winches up, this should give a bit of an idea of what size things need to engineered to. Keep up the good work. You fellows are truly impressive locating the truck and trailer as you have.

    The panel damage is at close enough a level to the left side goal post damage that resulted in the cosmetic cappings being added during the show that I’d wager it’s related. I think those cappings were added rather than the trailer repaired properly so that they could continue filming from other angles and then just quickly slap the cappings over the damage in a matter of minutes (a proper repair would have taken days).
