Its an area where the defensive player cannot touch the offensive player, creates automatic foul. For example you cant take a charge in that location

NCAA/FIBA/Canada University is 22 feet, 1¾ inches and Canada/USA High school is 20 feet 9 inches NBA is 23 Feet 9 Inches ... all from center of basket
