    Chet Holmgren took a surprisingly big lead in Rookie of the Year odds but Victor Webmanyama has taken it back. There was a major change for Wemby in early December that made the difference and this is a look at whether Chet can make a comeback.

      Casey,
      Do you REALLY think that Chet's Universe revolves around the ROY race?
      If so, WAKE UP.
      Chet's got Bigger Fish to Fry :)
      And as far as the "Chet Plays on a Better Team" argument in support of Wemby, how about this...

    Sochan was never going to be turned into a PG, it was just to improve his game by forcing him to do the things he's never had to. I know Wemby is our number 1 pick with generational talent but he can't win alone. People seem to forget Sochan is younger than Chet, he didn't play a full season last year and he's already improved so much while always being asked to guard the other teams best player no matter their size or position. IMO the "experiment" worked as you can see the team improving. Wemby still gets winded not being used to the fast paced NBA game (especially the spurs) so he has to sit and it's in those minutes we lost games.. but lately you can see the improvement in pieces like Sochan who took over games when Wemby rested. Pop isn't worried about adding a championship to his hall of fame career, he's busy making sure the young players be the best versions of themselves so they can win even when he's no longer coaching.

    • @Orverge
      @Orverge 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      Sochan is the best fit with Wemby's game out of any of the spurs' field in my opinion. It adds a level of bully ball under the basket and he's been the most evenly distributed between taking shots and passing to Wemby, meaning he's making defenders think.

      I've been using my wife's face soap to wash my ass for months. I swear to god this was an accident. My wife bought a bar of soap that looked somewhat nice about a year ago. It stayed in our shower from months and never seemed to be getting smaller.
      About 6 months ago my soap bar ran out and I decided to use her fancy bar. It never seemed to get smaller so I figured it was just there a show soap or something. To be looked at but never touched. I decided that that bar of soap was now my ball sack and ass cleaner. For months I used this poor bar to clean the sweat and grime off my unspeakables. I was happy.
      But it all came crashing down today. I was brushing my teeth and I saw that same soap bar being lathered all over my wife's face. I felt like vomiting but had to hide it fast. I gave her a lame thumbs up and smiled. She probably thought I was a dumbass.
      Anyways I will take this to my grave because my wife would murder me if she ever found out. Hopefully it stays that way.

    Chet Holmgren is definitely a future NBA star, surely competing for the MVP race in four or five years from now.
    But Wemby is just incredible; as a complete rookie, he is already dominating the NBA (just feel how the opponents avoid the paint when he is playing and how they are coming back in it when he is on the bench); we can see that he is also progressing very quickly (last year in some games of french league, when guarded by experimented big guys, he could disappear during a long time; this year it didn't happen; he brings such an energy in every moment).
    He still struggle with his midrange shoot but he has taken more than 10 kg since the beginning of the season (his body is currently changing a lot). He explained during an interview that he has some problems with his shoot mechanic, explaining it with his body's changes. But as soon as his weight will stabilize a bit, he should improve his shoot drastically !
    And he still need to work on specific moves that he will be able to reproduce game after game without any chance for the defender to block the shoot. As soon as he will masterize two or three "signature" moves, he will become very difficult to play against without trapping him with more than one defender.
    We just hope that the Spurs team will improve next year as it is currently very low in talents (they should trade Johnson, Mac Dermott, Osman. Vassel is a disappointment this season, hope he will improve). Trae Young would be one of the best player to put in the Wemby's team !!

      I think Chet could be a good player. Definitely someone who could start on a championship team. But I'm not convinced he'd ever be MVP calibre, or maybe not even all-star calibre.
      The difference between Chet and Wemby is that Chet's had a pretty good year on a top seed team. Wemby has had historical level stats on a bottom seed team. You can make the argument that being on a worse team means he can get fed the ball more because winning isn't a huge priority, but on the flip side the lower quality of the team overall means many passes, plays and setups aren't going to be as good and thus are going to require his talent to finish.
      All that said, he's no sure thing to one day be an MVP or MVP contender either. But if you look at those two guys, one of them looks like they have a chance, and the other hasn't shown that yet.

      Both are great though, and would make a deserving ROTY. Season isn't over, things can still change for Chet. He's a bit unlucky he has to compete for ROTY against a guy who's got the potential to go down as the GOAT.

    TBH I have no idea why the race between the two is even a question. Wembanyama is leading all rookies in (per game for all categories) PTS, REBs, STLs and BLKs whilst being 4th in ASTs. A stat record like this has never been done before, aside from maybe Wilt Chamberlain's rookie season (Mans won MVP). If anyone that was American put up such a monster season as a rookie and STILL didn't win ROTY, the whole NBA would come crashing down with claims of being rigged and biased. At this point the only people who vote Holmgren over Wemby are the ones with agendas and disregard the fact that the ROTY is supposed to be an individual exclusive award and not an award that accounts for team records/capabilites such as the MVP, DPOY and Rings.

    Chet shouldn't be eligible for ROTY because having a year to not just bond with the team, but to have access to their staff and facilities, is a completely unfair advantage, and anyone who says otherwise is dreaming. I realize it is the way the rules are, my argument is that the rules need to change. If you get injured and miss a year, then that goes in the tough luck bucket. TBH I was hoping chet would win because only with "the biggest prospect since Lebron James" missing ROTY to a second year player would they consider changing that rule.

      Wins have hardly ever mattered for ROY. You also can't attribute the wins solely to chet for OKC as he is their third option, and you can't attribute the losses solely to Wemby either. Team success should by a tertiary consideration for this award. And right now, on an individual level, from December onwards, Wemby has been the best rookie in the league by a considerable margin.

    • @TDotRedemption
      @TDotRedemption 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Vourne OKC was a 10th seed last year. When Chet came into the mix this year, they've become a number 1 seed. Chet can and should win ROTY. However, Chet really shouldn't focus on the ROTY. He should instead focus on bringing OKC an NBA championship. I never thought OKC would a number 1 seed so soon.

    • @Austin2Sexy
      @Austin2Sexy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@TDotRedemption You're completely disregarding J-Dubs improvement. To say it's only Chet bringing the team to the first seed is being disingenuous and not taking into account the improvement of the entire team

    • @flexorcist30
      @flexorcist30 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@TDotRedemption its has little to do with Chet.Its about SGA who was not even in consideration last year for MVP. Its about Jalen Williams producing more. Chet is the third option on his team. He is a vital piece but not the biggest reason they are number 1. These recent games has proven that, Chet has not produced in January but they still win. The games they lose are the ones SGA has a bad night

    • @Vourne
      @Vourne 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agree they have improved. But your statement needs a lot of nuance added to it.
      First off, the Timberwolves also jumped up a lot, meaning there has been a shift in power in the west. Especially with the Grizzlies giving their spot up, denver receding record wise as well. And also, several OKC players have made a large jump this season, and their leader Shai is in the top 3 MVP voting this year as well. All of these factors lead to the number 1 seed. You can't just say "Last year, 10th seed. Chet comes, now 1st seed. Chet=ROTY.
      Way too broad of a statement.@@TDotRedemption
