So pretty much be prepared for teams that have stellar front offices like the Spurs and Thunder since even before the new CBA they've always managed to make ridiculously smart moves whilst super teams were being formed left and right
the spurs drafted David Robinson at no1 and Tim Duncan at No1. Without either, they win zero chips in that era, most likely. Did they make a good move getting Manu? Sure. Tony? Sure. But most teams did a hand full of good acquisations over time. But they didnt get lucky enough to draft top10 of all times players at no1.
Don't forget Miami Heat. They may be championship contenders right now, but they may be able to maintain that contention with the way they draft players and let role players reach their fullest potential.
@@maxmeier532 They also drafted Kawhi Leonard and Sean Elliott. Steve Kerr wouldn't have helped build what the Warriors are without the Spurs doing it first.

What a great video. I'm kinda glad that Superteams are done. It will be nice to have a more teams being able to win. That is what makes the NFL so much fun sometimes. Any team can come out and win.
I think this is a perfect medium. Player empowerment is something needed in this league. However, it has been left unchecked for years. This doesn’t stop players from walking out on a weak front office, but adds the needed risk and consequence. Teams aren’t going to be able to capitalize on a upset superstar like AD or Harden anymore. Free agency is the only way for for teams to pick these types of players up. Made much more difficult by the fact these players will have dozens of teams trying to pick them up rather than only a handful of teams. I can see the Grizzlies being a team to win a championship very soon. They are built fairly similar to the Nuggets and their top talents are all young home grown players.
It actually screws teams that draft and develop their players that's not good at all. And if players money is getting cut anyway they will just sign with the big market teams.
@@kohsmoger1567yea that part sucks, but I think overall it's better. Yea if a small market team happens to draft 3 superstars then it sucks for one of them to have to go, but it also means that those small market teams won't have that much of a disadvantage anymore against big rich markets since the big markets are also heavily impacted
Honestly, I think it will result in smaller contracts for role players, which is probably the right way to go anyway. Teams are going to much more likely to let a mid-tier guy go if it helps them afford to keep their stars. And while I do think role players are important, they do get overpaid quite a bit sometimes. The true superstars are the ones selling tickets, they deserve to get paid. A mid-tier guy might be valuable on the court, but not as many people are coming to the games looking forward to seeing them play.
I think it depends on what type of role players, I think players like Austin Reaves and Brook Lopez will have their salaries decreased from 25 mil +, which I am a fan of, but I think role players who were only making minimum money will increase in salary because it wont be like $150 million making up the contracts of 4 players
If guys want to get paid, more of them will have to go to small market teams. the structure truly will move towards 1 super max, 1 or 2 max and a bunch of role players. The players agreed to this, because it should help spread money among more players as oppsed to just the superstars.
I am a Spurs fan, and I'm happy as well, also for OKC too. My brother is an OKC fan, so they'll always have a special place in my heart as well. I hope that it's gonna become a 4 way fight for the title between Spurs, OKC, Denver and Miami pretty soon. Good luck to OKC.

What the new CBA does is force the front office of all teams to be strategic and sign players to their actual value vs what's been going on lately where some very average players get crazy contracts. Look at Tyrese Haliburton. He's played 191 out of 410 games. 17 ppg and 8 assists per game. Pretty good but max contract good? NO. He misses a lot of games and he's a 2nd tier player. The only season he's played over 60 games he averaged 15 and 8. Which is still good. But that's more likely to be his sustained production and no GM should be giving that 52 million per season. Think about it, he had one good season, a season where he played 55 games, averaged 20 and 10, and he got 50 million per over 5 yrs. That's insane. There are really only 15-20 guys in the league who are true star players who can change if a team can compete for a title. Take the Warriors. That's Steph's team and always has been. Klay and Dray are very good but not star players. The reason they won is they fit together so well and added other solid pieces is around them. The new CBA means a guy like Steph should be paid like the superstar player he is while Dray and Klay get paid like the 2nd tier players they are.
@@roboninja3194 Geez. This was a misread from you haha. Tyrese jumped very high in production this season and played nearly 85% of the regular season, leading the Pacers to the 6th seed. He had an unfortunate injury that led him to miss some games and a pretty awful cold streak following All-Star break. Other than that, he had an excellent season, leading the league in assists on great efficiency (60% TS%). Tyrese is a bonified star and on a team like the Pacers, locking him up with a deserved contract was an amazing move by the front office. Klay and Draymond are definitely no longer stars. I'm not sure if you're saying they never were or they aren't anymore, but from 2015-2019 (and probably 2022), they were definitely all-stars, not just good role players for the team lol. At this point though, yes, they should not be getting paid like bonified all-stars. However, the new CBA makes it tough, because guys like Klay and Draymond aren't just getting paid their money because of their production, they're also getting paid because of the intangibles they bring to the team (still probably more than they should).
I agree, but I also think it will be harder to move off a bad contract. If you sign Russell Westbrook to $40 mil/yr, for example, it will be HARD to move him to another team.
I think that the new CBA rules will change the league to more interesting and competitive teams. Some criticize that drafted players can't resign when they getting better. But this thing will have all teams. So skilled players will spread all over the league. Probably the salaries will decrease. Perhaps I am wrong, but getting back to back champion will now be harder than before. Overall I like the new rules.

The part Casey didn’t mention, is the the Salary Cap is a % of revenue and revenue is about to go way down after 2025 when the tv deals are renegotiated. Streaming makes way less money in ad revenue than tv and less and less ppl are watching games on tv. The pain is about to get way worse for 2nd tier stars that don’t win
player contracts in sports have exploded to absurd degrees these last like 10 years. soccer is going to experience a huge recession eventually when nobody is willing to buyout these teams or shell out $100m+ for basically every good player
It’s not absurd. 10 years ago you guys were the same ones crying how the owners are jerking players. Finally the people who actually make the money are getting someeee and I mean some of the money. Sheep
Honestly with all the new CBA rule the NBA needs to expand cos over the next few years there are gonna be a heap of players without teams cos they don’t want them with the CBA rules with team salary results in a heap of players without teams. So it kinda only feels right to have a couple expansion teams.
Literally was thinking this exact salary construction two years ago with max limits and exceptions for drafted players, so happy it's finally happening.
That's why I trust the front office of the Hawks. But I pissed when we didn't get even a 1st round pick from JC's trade, but that's ok. The Hawks avoid the 2nd apron to get good roleplayers
Honestly this is great for the NBA, it seems like everyone is getting paid at least 25-30 million if you're decent and/or show potential. Im a fan of Herro and Poole but they do not deserve that much per year. I think this will severely hurt teams like the Hawks and Bucks in the next two years but will make the next seasons after that much more competitive
OKC got SGA who was top 5 in MVP votings along with being All NBA 1st team and was 2nd on MIP should've won it tho while he finished sixth in Clutchest player of the year too. Then JDub was All Rookie 1st team also a finalist for ROTY, Giddey made a huge leap in improving he was previous All Rookie 2nd team in 2021 plus they'll be getting back Chet this upcoming season who will give wemby a run for his money in winning that ROTY because we know how talented he is on both sides. They got an loaded amount of young assets to even a war chest of draft capital, OKC could basically trade for any disgruntled star/superstar they want or the Thunder could be patient and wait out how the rapid growth & development of the roster shapes into with the young core and deep depth in of role players they got on that bench the sky is really the limit for them. Only time will tell when that comes together cuz they've added another defensive stopper whose a combo guard in Wallace along with Lu Dort their main lockdown defender that trio of Cason, Holmgren and Dorture Chamber will cause a lot of havoc defensively. OKC is coming really 🔜 ⚡🆙
Hey Hoops, where do you think Bruce Brown and James Harden are going. If he doesn't sign with the 76ers or Rockets. Let me know. And PS. your videos are the best
With the new cba teams will have to change there tactics in how they build a team like drafting better not overpaying role players or mid tier players and being caution how big of max contract they pay there superstars as well. Plus the new in tournament during the season which means more games for the players which means we could see a lot more injuries as well to then we do now which can have an impact.
This CBA is having a huge impact already... Didn't know the second apron had draft implications too. That is harsh. Another level to this layer cake. It is going to be wild. There are clearly sellers and buyers right now, but once this CBA is closer to implementation, the buyers will be less inclined to do so. This will hurt the rotation players the most. They will be seeing less money and shorter contracts as you cannot have a lot of money tied down to players that are injured often. Since you won't be able to be opportunistic with the second apron. I don't know if teams with lots of young talent are going to be benefitting from this either. At some point you will have to pay them too...
In the last 5 years 5 different teams have won the Championship. Including 2 teams that had never won a Championship before in Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors. I think that shows how competitive the Nba is gonna be in the next years.
it's really unfair to treat everyone the same way - Warriors had 7-8 guys picked from the draft, they were talented, dubs has luck, but the whole organization hard worked and developed those players and they game plan. Now are punished for paying guys what they deserved. Clippers has trade, trade, trade and... trade players. Luxury tax and aprons should be divided on drafted players and others (trades, free agents)
Are you saying Curry cannot win unless he has a 200+ million team around him? No team should be allowed to go that much above salary cap. Cap, apron and luxury tax are there for a reason . This is what the majority of the franchises wanted.
Mans said, “Players felt so entitled to get what they want. “ as if they’re not the people literally making the product. Then, “Don’t contracts mean anything? “ followed by, “Are these guys children? “ in a demeaning manner, as if team owners won’t trade away players in the sleaziest ways imaginable with little-to-no warning whatsoever, like children when they’re bored of their toys.
The super-team era was ridiculous, won't be sad to see it go. There's not one superteam I was really happy to see win a chip. Maybe KG's Celtics but that was only because even as a superteam they were still underdogs to Kobe and Shaq's Lakers. Even for GSW, their first and last chips both pack way more of a punch in fans' eyes than the ones with KD (even amongst Dub fans). Going back to having to actually build a team over time has to come back and ridiculous contracts to players without any receipts needs to end, like NOW.
Brilliant. Not enough people understand how impactful the new CBA will be. It changes everything. That is one of the reasons this offseason has been so awesome, in a while this will not be possible anymore. Also max contracts are going to get lower and mid contracts are going to be hardest hit. Every team will stay below the 2nd apron within a few years.
Teams have been breaking contracts and trading players right after signing them, in the middle of their contact and right at the end of their contact, in order to benefit then and their franchise. Why is it a problem when a PLAYER makes that decision? 🤷🏽♂️
I Notice a theme with GOATS. 1. Tim Duncan -- took pay cuts -- Spurs win Championships in every decade he played in, and he got 5 rings. 2. Kobe Bryant -- sought out good teammates and took some personal losses. 3. Tom Brady in NFL -- got underpaid for years, and won 7 superbowls
It's obvious that the passing of the torch has been happening over the last few years. The veterans that've defined the narrative for the last 10+ years are all past their primes. If Curry, Lebron, Kawhi, etc. win another chip it's because they're the 3rd option at best like Miami Shaq.
The 2020's of the NBA is shaping up to look like the 1970's NBA in terms of champions with different teams wining with maybe a max of two titles for the same team
I think teams like GSW needs to have some kind of exception... they drafted all their main trio... so it should be something like 80%reduction while calculating their salary for the danger level while paying them 100%of what they deserve.
Rockets , thunder and Cavs have great teams built through traded and the draft and should rise next year. Mark my words . The spurs are also in a good position but don't expect contention without a blockbuster trade which is more likely to happen now bc teams will be desperate to offload talent to get under the cap.
I like these changes. I think it's going to be good for the league overall, it's going to mean more balanced teams, a dissemination of talent throughout the league which means teams like the lakers won't dominate 90% of the public talking heads discourse and smart, organic teams like the original Warriors will be rewarded by virtue of not being punished.
The spurs are going to dominate with this new cba. They’ve basically always operated with these rules because the Holts never want to pay luxury taxes.
Are 3rd party deals allowed in the NBA? It could be a loop hole for teams in larger markets to top up player contracts outside the NBA with different sponsorship deals.
Hopefully this works out and balance is restored. So tired of seeing big market teams with lots of franchise titles keep signing superstars. Superteams ruin competition. Hopefully they can make some changes to stoppage of playing being so frequent, the games are way too long at the moment. Blow out are horrible to watch it's only really worth watch the final quarter at the moment.
It only really worked out for the Warriors tbh. The Heat won 2 but only last 4 years. The Cavs won 1 and no team was getting past Bron regardless of where he was playing. The Celtics won 1. Every other super team has fallen short.
As a T-Wolves and Edwards fan. I don't think he'll go anywhere as long as Minnesota continues to put a contender around him. He's very humble, while extremely confident. His favorite color is blue, and the T-Wolves have different variations of it in their uniforms. Lastly, I think he wants to bring Minnesota its first title, and he doesn't want to build a legacy under the shadows of franchises littered with legends.
They need to specify 65 games and minimum 25 minutes for awards because great stat players can just play 1 sec in bound on the late games of the season to get the minimum games.

Sheep
Declan Rice comes to mind
Honestly with all the new CBA rule the NBA needs to expand cos over the next few years there are gonna be a heap of players without teams cos they don’t want them with the CBA rules with team salary results in a heap of players without teams. So it kinda only feels right to have a couple expansion teams.
Awesome video... new subscriber 🤠
You're really one of the Best NBA youtuber out there. keep it up !! #RoadTo500Ksubs #AMHoops
What’s Good AM Hoops Early Btw Love The Vids
Well explained🤝
Literally was thinking this exact salary construction two years ago with max limits and exceptions for drafted players, so happy it's finally happening.
This is a good thing! It will make things like player development, scouting, and coaching even more important.
That's why I trust the front office of the Hawks. But I pissed when we didn't get even a 1st round pick from JC's trade, but that's ok. The Hawks avoid the 2nd apron to get good roleplayers
its refreshing every time i see someone get the move and not just see it for face value
too many people speak on things they don’t know about
Honestly this is great for the NBA, it seems like everyone is getting paid at least 25-30 million if you're decent and/or show potential.
OKC is coming really 🔜
⚡🆙
Hey Hoops, where do you think Bruce Brown and James Harden are going. If he doesn't sign with the 76ers or Rockets. Let me know. And PS. your videos are the best
I will be excited when he can withstand 75% of the regular season.
Great video
Please discuss the other changes in the CBA like the Low Skill addition to terminate contracts.
By far best basketball yt channel in the league
Nice Explanation with CBA rules.
Awesome vid
With the new cba teams will have to change there tactics in how they build a team like drafting better not overpaying role players or mid tier players and being caution how big of max contract they pay there superstars as well. Plus the new in tournament during the season which means more games for the players which means we could see a lot more injuries as well to then we do now which can have an impact.
can’t wait to watch some fire trades and moves in the future ❤😊
Thanks Linus😉
Hey AM hoops!!! You going to the summer league in Vegas??
i didn’t know the trade website existed till now thx!
TH-cam’s getting too comfortable with these no skip ads
I'm excited for this
it's really unfair to treat everyone the same way - Warriors had 7-8 guys picked from the draft, they were talented, dubs has luck, but the whole organization hard worked and developed those players and they game plan.
If Curry cannot win with a 170million team he really not that good.
This will be awesome
Leveling the playing field
Paul George was traded to the clippers...he did not leave as a free agent
This might be the year I make it to the league boys 💪🏿💪🏿
They should make a provision on the cba to allow teams like okc who draft and develop their talent to be able to keep them
I like these changes. I think it's going to be good for the league overall, it's going to mean more balanced teams, a dissemination of talent throughout the league which means teams like the lakers won't dominate 90% of the public talking heads discourse and smart, organic teams like the original Warriors will be rewarded by virtue of not being punished.
NEVER underestimate the mainstream media's dedication to finding excuses to drone on endlessly about the Lakers.
The day we see the fucking wolves vs hornets in the finals that will be the day 😂😂
The future of the league is secure.
The Lebron Effect = NBA Dynasty Mode in 2K
The NBA wants to be like the NFL and have talent spread out but they will never be willing to set a hard cap
I LOVE these changes!
I love what the owners did.
This should be good for the fans long term
OKC with all their draft pics? Spurs too. New NBA Superpowers?
They need to specify 65 games and minimum 25 minutes for awards because great stat players can just play 1 sec in bound on the late games of the season to get the minimum games.
One cannot have great stats with 1 second.
Mocking the players with that voice is funny 😂
We can call it the end of the golden era of the nba
Better call this new CBA the Ben Simmon/James Harden Amendment
honestly jamal sneaking into my top 10 . its ether him or booker cant decided whos better . jamal earned it like crazy last season but srsly booker did too
if bron retires then this choice will be easier . rn now its kind of hard .
