US Bank may be the most difficult, but this shouldn't be confused with being 'upscale' or exclusive. Kinda like dating a Karen. She may be the most difficult to get a date with, but that doesn't mean she's the best relationship to be in. Also, you'd think they get a commission from doing hard pulls. They hard pull if you call for anything.

I usually won't apply for credit if I know that I wouldn't be approved, such as when I had to max out credit cards due to a rough time in my business. The two times that I did get turned down were strange. I once got turned down on opening a margin account at a broker to trade option spreads, even with a lot of experience in trading them, because they were the first to actually run a credit check on me. The other time was when I applied for a line of credit from PayPal (Synchrony Bank), which I didn't even need, but was going to carry a purchase for 0% interest, instead of putting it on a credit card. The first reason... no current real estate loans/ poor loan mix. My credit score was ok, in the mid 700's. I did the purchase on my large limit business card.

I’m a Barclays customer here in the UK. I think generally credit is given on merit. When you listed Barclays as the second most difficult bank in the US it reminded me of the Frank Whittle story. I think in the US banks are more more likely to take a punt. Frank Whittle was British and was developing the jet engine in the UK. He needed funding for his invention but no bank would lend to him. He went over to the US where he got what I guess we would call today Series A funding. The jet engine was born and Sir Frank remained in the US until his death. Without US lenders we probably wouldn’t have had those early jets.

I have an idea for a video, if you haven't already done it. Would you think about doing a ranking on how "forgiving" credit card issuers are in welcoming you back. My FICO ranges from 785 to 797 and I don't have any negatives on my report. However, in the distant past, I had trouble keeping up with my payments. Wells Fargo was quite gracious and has issued new cards to me (I have been a long time customer with them). However, CITI rejected me even though they originally pre-approved me. And I don't even waste my time on Chase, as I assume that they are the least forgiving.

Of the big banks and Chase 5/24 rule aside; Citi has been the white whale for me. I have had the Citi Costco Card since 2017. It was used all the time for years putting up to 50% utilization on there a good chunk of that timeframe and paying it off. Despite that they never approved either of my CLI requests. US Bank on the other hand, Cash+ and Shopper Cash Rewards within the last year. The Cash+ is used for Internet and Home Utilities bills and nothing else. It has never left the house. I just got the Shopper Cash Rewards. My goal is to replace the Costco card so Citi can go pound sand. Trying out the Shopper Cash for Amazon/Walmart/Costco and see how things go. Amex varies quite a bit based on what card you're applying for. from easiest to most difficult: Gold, Platinum, Green, Delta Gold, Delta Platinum, Delta Reserve, Delta Blue, Hilton Cards (all lumped together), Marriot cards (lumped together), BCP, everyday, everyday preferred, BCE and CM. Amex seems to be pushing BCP pretty hard lately and preapprovals are showing up on rebuilding profiles well before BCE shows up. Other comments: charge cards are hands down more lenient on approvals from amex than anything else. 650 and you're in maybe even a 630-640. BCE and CM seems to be tighter on initial underwriting than other amex cards (CM needs a revamp badly fwiw).

They will make a statement on how likely you are to be approved based on the information you supply them. If you decide to apply they will hard pull your credit history.
