- Is there a Grand Prix with more flair and history than Monaco? For decades, the international jet set has made a pilgrimage to the exclusive event on the Côte d'Azur in southern France.
In 2023, the modern FIA F3 will celebrate its premiere here on the 3,337-metre street circuit. And what is the name of the city finishing straight? Boulevard Albert 1er.
18 bends with such great names as Mirabeau, the tunnel under the Fairmont Hotel, the chicanes along the harbour and Rascasse, the last combination of bends before the finishing straight. For insiders: Is the bend named after the finger food restaurant "La Rascasse" in the bend or the restaurant after the bend?
The big problem in Monaco: lack of space! The F2 paddock is in the car park at the harbour. The situation is even worse for the FIA F3. We were in the car park of the Country Club tennis complex at the eastern end of Monaco. About 3-4 km from the F1 paddock. Walking distance about 50 minutes. Catering in an underground car park.
The procedure was that we had to take a shuttle through the public but closed roads before and after a session with the F3. After the free practice, this manoeuvre cost me my engine. Traffic jammed in a roundabout, I had to stop, engine quickly over 120C and - off. An F3 is definitely not built for roundabouts.
Conclusion: The atmosphere, the flair of Monaco is what makes it. The parties, the yachts, the lifestyle. Monaco is Carp.... in its purest form. Anything under Bentley is practically non-existent here. RR is standard. For example, lunch at the Monaco Beach Club, on the way out there are simply three Bugattis in the valet parking. That's Monaco.
Of course, we also raced there. That's why we travelled to Monaco. I would like the F3 event in Monte Carlo to be more about sport. A race at 8 o'clock in the morning takes place in front of empty grandstands, while the nightlife goes on until 5 o'clock in the morning.
In the rain it went great, the whole session around the top 10. Due to the engine change before qualifying, I lost 200 to 300 revs when shifting up. That must have been almost a second. Our team tried different set-ups on all three cars in qualifying. In the end it didn't matter because my team was penalised by the FIA for breaking the rules by starting from the pit lane. Actually, we used the two races more to collect data to understand and develop the car.
Monaco offers almost no overtaking opportunities without a mistake by the car in front. Accordingly, the races were unspectacular. P23 in the sprint race. P23 in the feature race. Conclusion: The street circuit was really fun in the rain, it started out promisingly from a sporting point of view and then, unfortunately, everything turned out quite differently. Well then... Let's go to Barcelona for the big Alonso festival 😊 .
By the way: Fastest race lap F1: Lewis Hamilton 1:15,650 and my fastest race lap 1:27,469 in FIA F3 = 12 sec difference. The F2 went 1:22.058 = 5.5 sec faster than my F3.
380 hp vs. 1,000 hp or 612 hp doesn't make much difference in Monaco.
Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to show moving pictures of the track or the grid in the vlogs from the FOM. I am trying to find a solution in the sense of all F3 fans on social media. It would be a great win-win situation for everyone if you could show more scenes.

Over the Years I have worked for a few F3 teams at Monaco.... It is a Freakin Nightmare logistically.... The pits are Miles away... We used to follow F1 Qualification.... And we had to que up before they started. As we had passes we were allowed in to watch... In those days we were allowed to stand on the Inside of the Hair Pin... So I was stood there looking inside Senna`s Cockpit while he was Qualifying...... Something that will stay in my memory till my dying day..... :-)) xxx

Sophia du bist eine herausragende Persönlichkeit. Ein Vorbild für uns alle. Wie du dich nach deinem Unfall wieder zurückgekämpft hast ist beispiellos. Keiner wusste, kannst du wieder laufen, kannst du wieder alles normal machen, den Alltag selbst verrichten. Man hatte echt Angst um dich gehabt, aber du hast es geschafft nicht nur dein Alltag wieder normal zu verrichten, sondern alles wieder zu können und sich wieder auf das große Ziel zu konzentrieren. An dieser Stelle auch noch einmal ein riesen Lob an die Ärzte, die dieses Wunder möglich gemacht haben. Ich glaube du solltest bzw. bist den Ärzten für immer dankbar, dass Sie das große Wunder vollbracht haben oder? Nun aber wieder zurück zu dir Sophia. Du bist eine herausragende Persönlichkeit, weil du dich nicht unterkriegen lässt, weiter hart an deinem Ziel arbeitest, dir aber auch nicht den Mund verbieten lässt, von irgendwelchen Möchtegern Motorsportlern und trotzdem hast dueine bodenständige und bescheidene Art mit einem gewissen Grad an Verrücktheit inne. Das macht dich zu solch einer liebenswerten Person. For me in F1 games Monaco has always been the trickiest race to do, partially due to that last corner you mentioned, it is a very slow corner and you don't really see much going into it so kind of have to wing it. Still decent result for the team considering it is one of the hardest tracks to overtake on
