Wood Turning Segmented Ripple Bowl From A Board

- In this video I will show how I make a bowl using very wavy and twisted segments. It gives kind of a ripple effect. A simple but very effective look. It could be left square and used as a serving board as well.
You will see how I cut the segments, glue them up and make a bowl from a board. I also show how you can do this without a fancy CNC machine. Future video on doing that coming soon.
This can be called a Bowl from a Board or Economy Bowl, Bandsaw Bowl

Thank you so much Kobie. After spending the time figuring it out and making it I was finally able to sit back and look at it. I absolutely love the view of the thumbnail. It now looks like 21 wings trying to get off the ground.

Hi Gary, I really like how this "turned" out. Well done.
Thank you I am happy you liked it. Funny I am working on another which anyone can do using a bandsaw.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
looks good
Thank you Mike and thanks for watching.
Gary
I also like it a lot.
Thanks my friend,
Gary
I really like the shine.
Thank you John! It is a great finish for getting a nice shine.
Gary
Great work!! It's a wonder, you don't become hypnotized, watching it turn!!
Thank you Joe and it can have that effect. Luckily has a bigger effect on the camera than it does watching it live.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Thank you so much Gary for using our products over the laquer spray, we get questions every day on what to use our pastes with so showing this one way really helps us out!! Now when someone asks I can refer them to this video.
Thank you Tom and I find it the easiest way to get a nice shine and very smooth finish. I am not fond of the buffing wheel system and I feel this is much easier. A lot of finishes have been ruined using a buffing wheel as well.
Take care,
Gary
HI gary super super cool one day I will have a go. weldone.
Thank you Manjit and yes you should give it a go.
Take care,
Gary
You just gave me another great idea
Thank you Pete and let me know how it goes.

Gary, what a nice bowl? I have already watched the other video and it's a winner also.
Thank you Don for your kind words.
Take care,
Gary
Yep. Like it. If I were to do something similar, first thing would be to "sturdyfy" my 3018 router. Might be fun! Well done youngster! (I have 6 years on you!)
Thank you Stuart. So I looked up the 3018 and it is a cnc router correct? I should sell one of my CNC mills and get a CNC router. I could get a much bigger cutting window.
Youngster!!! I like the sound of that LOL
Take care,
Gary
The 3018 is indeed a "SMALL" router. Wish I had the resources and room for something much more rugged.
Excellent job Gary . So much talent !! Thanks for posting it 👍
Thanks so much Ron I truly appreciate your kind words.
Take care,
Gary
Once again You knocked it out of the park!!
Bravo!
Thanks so much Luie It is always exciting to see the shapes that develop after it is turned. I really.
Happy you liked it and thanks for watching.

Thank you Rickey and yes there is lots of steps to get here but I enjoy that as well.

I really enjoyed seeing this and look forward to the video on making it with a band saw. I have seen various videos on a similar theme but I havnt seen the rings cut this way before. What a good idea and it saves a bit of work.
Thanks so much! The other video is done but I have something I will be uploading first. But it will not be long and you will see it and should be able to start doing this right away.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Great! Now all I need is one of those machines that makes the squiggly things.
Thank you and I also have a video showing how to do this with a band saw.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
A real beauty Gary .
Thank you very much Jon!
Take care,
Gary
Really cool bowl. I like how you did it taking a flat thin piece and turning into a bowl.
Thank you Judith it is a good way to make a bowl out of less material. The shape is somewhat limited but it does make a nice effect.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Gray what a beautiful piece. I think I enjoy the process of you making and explaining what you are doing as much as the finished project. I could listen to you and Phil and Kimsey all day talking about turning.
Thank you Dean and I do like talking about wood turning and sharing what I can.
I also enjoy watching and listening to Phil and Kimsey. Hard to get much better.

@@ThePapa1947 Yes you live in a great state. I lived in Roseburg Oregon once upon a time.
I started watching this video and fell a sleep, waking up around 18:00 minutes. What I saw intrigued so much I had to start from the beginning. It was not only very educational but also enjoyable to see how you made this bowl. Great job.

Thanks so much! This was lots of fun and looking forward to the next new thing to do.
Take care,
Gary
Another masterpiece made. I really like the way you use a parting tool to cut the pieces out rathe than using a bandsaw set at 45`.
Thank you George! This one would have been easy enough to band saw the rings but then you need to glue them together. I do like this method and might start using it on the next dizzy bowl I make.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
A great bowl with a difference and good finish as usual, Nice one Gary
Thank you Brian...happy you liked it.

Hi Robert,
I have been wondering how you were doing and how the class you took went. I can only imagine how helpful it must have been. From what I have seen in Tom's videos he must be a great teacher.
