Great job Gary and us newbies could learn a lot from you... yes, would love to see how you did the steps.... and as a newbie - I gotta ask, what angle did you make the segments at?
Thank you Andy I appreciate you watching and commenting and asking questions. So each side of the segment was 10 degrees. Making a total included angle of 20. If you divide 18 segments into 360 you will get 20 degrees and half of that is 10. So divide the number of segments into 360 and you will get the total angle. Of you can divide number of segments into 180 and you will get the angle for each side. Hope that helps. The follow up video will be coming in a few weeks. Gary
Haha, absolutely amazing, Gary! Never expected to "see" your steps like that! Really cool, my friend! The rest of the bowl is plenty good enough but your surprise was fantastic! Great job, buddy! 😊 Phil
Thank you Phil. Well I always liked trying to do magic tricks as a kid and never fooled anyone. I was sure hoping I could keep this a surprise and it seemed to work. Makes up for all the times my grandkids just...you didn't fool me LOL Take care my friend.....rain is coming here, Gary
“Yes Master, please unlock the mysteries of the Steps”. That’s a beautiful bowl Gary. Inquiring minds wish to know the secrets. I really enjoy making Beads of Courage bowls and the steps would take the finished product up a notch. 😊
Thank you Todd and what a great idea for a Beads of Courage bowl. I will be sure to show the simplest way to make this where you will be able to make as many as you want easily. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks for a great video, l have used your jig design for pin wheel to ring and it worked great. I would love to see a video on the steps you put in the cherry bowl. Thank for sharing this our knowledge.
Clear explanations as always Gary; it’s a wonderful bowl and I love the steps - reminds me of the work of Maurits Escher. And yes please explain to me how it’s done. Regards Ray 🌞
Many thanks! Ray it was a lot of fun for me to do. I will be taking the next step to make a video on how to make the steps. So that is one step forward LOL Take care, Gary
Gary, I’d say I fall into the category of a looker! I love to watch how you do your segmented stuff but I doubt I will attempt to do it myself. That is beautiful and it’s a great surprise when you turn to the steps!! I’ll watch a video on the steps to do the steps 😊. Cheers, Rick
Thank you Rick and as long as you play a Les Paul you are number one in my book. But this year my group is going to let me play Pipe Line so I will have to turn to the surf special. Some how I ended up in a folk group with some guys from our church choir. But they are not going to hold me down LOL But I enjoy that old music. It is just some of the protest song that get me down. But being an infantry man in Vietnam does not make it easy. Thanks for watching buddy, Gary
Oh my gosh Gary ! That is one incredible bowl ! Wow factor 10 ! Just beautiful . You almost make me want to buy another table saw . lol . I don't have room . I just love the steps . Thanks so much for sharing and you tips . We hope you have a great weekend and week ahead
Thanks Gerald, and it's coming soon. Sometimes after doing segments I need to catch up by turning chunks of logs. But I love doing them all. Thanks for watching, Gary

I love the step surprise after watching your veidos for years I think I know how make the steps. But yes I would like to see your vedio on how to do it. Thank you Gary for all your help.
Thank you very much Jim. I am certain you could make the illusion but there is something that is hard to see till you try the first one. The whole thing could be ruined without doing this. That will be the main thing I talk about. I will get going on it in the next week or so. Gary
A very beautiful bowl with some practical tips. I was surprised, not sure why, that just one wood displayed so much contrast between segments. The staircase illusion is incredible. Please show how it’s done.
Thank you Kevin. So I do not do the grain match segments on most turnings so that could cause a different look. But they all seem to light up when the light hits them from the same angle. You can see that on the turntable. I will be working on the video on how this is done. I have a few big projects I need to take care of though. Thanks for watching, Gary
That is really pretty Gary. Segmenting is always alot of fun. The bottom looks just great. Thank you for sharing. I hope to see you next week. Be safe 🙏
Great job Gary being thorough on your explanation of how to cut and assemble segmented rings. I've always seen people put the segments together as they've applied glue. I like your technique of adding the hose clamp to bring them all tightly together! Oh, and those steps, Wow! They were a great treat at the end! I've love to see the process for making those! Keep it up! great job! Thanks for sharing your secrets!
Thank you very much Michael! Happy you enjoyed this video. The secret of how to make this illusion will no longer be a secret soon. Working on how to show the process and not let it get complicated sounding. Because it can be but it does not have to be. Thanks for watching, Gary
Nice vessel! Love the steps! A video on them would be great. Have you read the discussion about the no fail base including Jerry Bennett and Steve Bonney on the AAW Segmented Woodturners forum? According to that thread the high segment count base is a good direction to go. The step they added was angled grain direction to deflect movement stresses. Steve actually built some and tested them outdoors in winter conditions that fared pretty well.
Thank you Gary and I plan on doing a special video on the illusion. I have not read what they have said about segmented bottoms and have not heard of Steve Bonney. I learned about segments in the early 70's when I started my pattern making apprenticeship. The patterns we made were mostly stored in a non controlled area that the foundries had. So they went from hot to cold. They held up good unless they had a water leak. We did not have wedgie sleds back then but the patterns would be too big for one anyway., So I did get that part from Jerry Oh I do another no no. I will use solid bottoms on some turnings. Maybe it is the humidity in Oregon but have not had issues. Thanks for watching, Gary
I saw Jerry Bennetts presentation on the no fail base and I recall that he varied the angle of the end grain so that it wasn’t at end to end. I do almost all segmented turning and was lucky enough to take a week long class with Malcolm Tibbetts. Malcolm, who I consider the master at segmented turning would never make a base where the points come together. Eventually the wood will move and the bottom will fail. The best options are floating bottoms or solid wood using quarter saw wood.
@@gregj2647 perhaps but with no issues I would say real lucky. Have you had issues with solid or segmented bottoms? I keep hearing this but been lucky I guess 🤣
@ No. I’m saying segmented can be made using a flat board . It is hard to find a nice piece of solid wood to make a bowl like that and I can get many types of beautiful flat wood to turn a segmented bowl. I often use walnut and oak for the contrast. I have much fir and alder on my property and use it a lot. Fir is a bit soft and takes a lot of sanding.
Good one Gary. Tricked me. I want to see how you did that. The easy and the hard way. I always love watching you work but I like the segmented turnings the most. I like the cherry and the surprise steps. I was surprised when you didn’t use your dust collector while sanding or the chuck cover spraying finish. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent with us here.
Thank you Barry. I did use the dust collector after I stopped recording. And I am not sure why I did not use my chuck cover. Thanks for reminding me. But it was time to clean the chuck up anyway. I am glad it was a surprise to see the steps. Once I found out an easier way to make sure it worked I decided not to show the steps I did. Plus it would have made the video pretty long. I figure for those who want to see how it is done they would appreciate more time spent on it. Coming soon! Gary
Gary I have been fiddling with segmenting for quite a while and I would love to see the video, those illusion pieces for some reason just grab my mind ( what's left of it anyway lol). I appreciate every video you make and must admit have seen them all at least twice. your friend in Nevada
Thanks so much Jerry, I have been working on the video for making the stair step illusion when I can. I have to say it is taking a lot of time. But that is because I want to make it easy for everyone to understand the process. Last night I think I have it. Now to put all the pieces together. It will be coming soon. Thanks for watching my videos twice...but why not 3 times LOL. Just kidding my friend, Gary
Awesome!! i Show this bowl to my wife. She it was wonderful too. I hate when brands of things I trust change hands and names. Thanks for the fun. Sammy is helping me type this. The mistakes are his. Haha.
Thanks Travis...Dinky is in my computer chair so I am in the family room typing on my laptop...we are in the same boat except I am making my own mistakes. Key board is too small for me LOL So the spray nozzel sucks and I give it a -10. The spray pattern gets a 2. All based on the old Deft. But so far it looks like Ace Hardware is the only one I have seen selling the new stuff. I wont buy anymore. Gary
You always seem to amaze me with your turnings. and yes, I would like to see more on this type of turning. I have yet to try segmented turnings. Thanks Tim
Hi Papa Beautifull segmented bowl. Love to see the step for the stairs . We have made segmented bowl yet . I have made a bravery bead box the was already had the segmented pieces cut and l glued the together and turned it. Thanks Maria and David Wise😂
Beautiful turning Gary. The steps are a great feature and it would be interesting to see how you do those. Have a blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much Mark. We are very busy at church with new Advent and Christmas songs. The wife and I are both in the choir. We have around 25 singers but I play guitar. All the best to your for the Christmas season, Gary
Gary, thank you for another masterpiece. Most of my fellow Woodturners are always in wonder of my segmented turning, not because these works are beautiful. But because of the work/effort that it takes to create. I appreciate that effort in your work and the time taken to edit the video. So, thank you again and have a Merry Christmas, Chuck
Thank you very much Chuck. Your comments are very much appreciated and is the main reason I try to share how I do these turnings. When I learned how to do segments over 50 years ago as a wood patternmaker I knew it was a cool thing. Even though it was just how we made big(up to 8 foot in diameter) rings. It was a way to make them stable, strong and easy. Was not long before I started making segmented bowls for my wife on my lathe at home. Thanks for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you as well. Gary
As usual, you did a great job on this bowl. Cherry is the best choice of wood for this type of segmented project. I would like to see a video on the steps. 👍👍👍
@@ThePapa1947 I'll keep an eye out for the video. Thanks for sharing your processes. I watched your post on the jig for the vortex bowl and I made the jig about 2 years ago and made a bowl using the pieces that were cut with the jig. My bowl from a board was not turned though. I cut it on the scroll saw and a lot of sanding.
I always like a surprise at the end, Gary. It is a beautiful bowl and the steps are really special. I would like to see a video on how you made the steps. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing Gary. My eyes were plying with me as the steps alternated from normal to being upside-down. Take care my friend and yes please for the video explaining how to do that. Hwyl, Huw
Thank you Sam. I noticed as I was putting the finish on you got a hint of what I had done. I did not want to show it during the process because I was not wanting to make it seem so complex. So I have a much easier method to show. Gary
Good evening, Gary. I still haven't turned a segmented bowl but you sure are tempting me. Such an amazing bowl. Then we see the steps, wow. Your have my curiosity on how you did it. Blows my mind. Very cool.
Thank you Ray. I got the stock out for showing how to do the steps and will start putting something together soon. I just want to work it out so it goes smooth and easy to understand. Which it is but I need to explain without stumbling LOL Take care my friend, Gary
I really enjoy your segmenting videos, best on TH-cam I’m sure!! I would really appreciate seeing the details on the steps illusion. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Awesome bowl, Gary. The steps feature adds quite a bit of intrest to what would be plain Jane bowl without it. A future video on making the steps would be nice, but i realize that is a lot of extra work for you. In short with or without that video, I am happy to see your handy work. GOOD ONE, Gary!
Thanks John. Yes it is kind of a plain John shape but the Cherry is pretty amazing. I had to switch the Jane part because someone very close to me has that for a middle name 😉 More than likely even without the interest I am sure I will show how to do the steps. I spent some time figuring out how to make it fool proof. Now I could just find a fool ... oh I guess that is me LOL
Wow, Gary, the 'steps' illusion is amazing! I haven't tried any segmented turnings yet ... one day I will, and I will revisit your videos for the instructions - and inspiration! Thank you, Sir.
Really love the step illusion Gary. Would not mind seeing how you do that. Really interesting seeing you show it; from some angles, the steps go upside down where it appears the treads are on the bottom of the steps (for me, it hit at 16:42 but I think it could occur anywhere -- it's how the eye perceives the orientation). Thanks for showing how you do this
Thank you Marik. It is so easy for it to swap direction which makes it even more interesting of an illusion. But I find most illusion I have done have the same thing going on. The colors are playing a big trick on us just making it look 3D in the first place. It is in front of me right now and I swear I could walk right up those steps. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank you so much Billy. I see a lot of illusion similar in the knitting world. This one is a bit trickier than a lot of illusions. Not that it is harder but harder to see how it is done. Till you see it! LOL Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Gary, I too love working with cherry. And as I’ve said a few times your segmented turning are my favorites. Yes please do a video on how you made those steps. I’m also very interested in how you figure out how to design and make those segments. Great video, thank you
Thank you Ian I appreciate your comments and am planning out the video right now. It might be a few weeks as I have a number of other things going on. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks Gary. I wish I could have watched this two days ago as I am currently making videos of my first attempt at a segmented piece (expecting to fail on my first attempt). What I have tried to do is make hexagonal segments that are cut at 30 degrees, which are turned inside out (using square segments to take complete a "ring"). Every 2 sets of segments, when reversed, forms a decagon with a fluted outer edge (2" diameter flute). I made the segments as staves, planning to saw rings from a single blank and reglue to create 2 colour fluted spirals. I'm half sure that this won't work out because half way through I spotted something wrong with my table saw setup, but maybe using some of the methods in this video I will be successful on my second attempt.
What you are doing sounds very interesting. I took a look and I think I saw what you doing. You have just giving me some ideas. Thanks for watching, Gary
Beautiful bit of work and wonderful surprise. Would love to see how you did it and all the other tips you have for straight up and down also! Thanks for every thing you do, you put all your heart into it!
Another masterpiece! I would love to learn more about the ‘steps for the steps’! (But I’m pretty sure it is far too complex for my skill level). That makes me appreciate it even more! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you Sue. Hopefully when I get the video together on how to do this it will not seem so complexed. You can save it till you are ready to give it a try. Thanks for watching, Gary
Holy Moly that was an amazing surprise at the end, and I would love to learn how it is done. You created a piece with that extra wow factor. Thank you so much I really do appreciate the effort you put in to help others achieve beautiful creations. ,cheers, Dave.
Thanks so much Dave. Happy you liked it enough to get a Wow Factor..much appreciated. I will be making video and was just thinking of how to really make it easy. You will understand once I do it. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank You Gary...BRAVO!!!!!...On your slider (at 2:13) I saw the adjustable screw to wedge the guide with correct tension? Excellent demonstration & camera work. WHAT A SURPRISE AT THE END!!! Like it??? I want to buy it!!!!!... Until next time, you made my day TM
Thank you TM. Not sure which screw you are talking about. Did you think it might have been loose? Glad it was a surprise as I worked hard not to let anyone see it before the end. Thanks for watching. Gary
I'm new to this Channel. Love your work and your ability to communicate the process. Looking forward to you backlog of content and of course your future projects. Thank you.
That must be the best, simplest, and most easily understood illustration made by segmenting. It totally looks like sunset at the castle turret with the staircase winding up and around. And as for wanting to see how it is fine, I'm not good at seeing things and not knowing how they were done, so you know I don't do segmented turning, but I really would love to see that video. And it looks like the replacement lacquer will do, that finish is perfect.
Thank you Dale! I will be doing that video as soon as I can fit it in. I still see Deft listed in places and the only place I have seen the new name is Ace Hardware. So maybe that is something Ace is doing. Either way I do not like it as good as Deft. Thanks for watching., Gary
Thanks so much Bram I appreciate you watching. I will get that video out in a few weeks. A lot going on right now but sure look forward to doing it. Take care my friend, Gary
Very beautiful and creative! I've done a few segmented turnings, and learned a lot from your video on Woodturner Pro, and would love to see how you did the steps!
Sure thing John. There might be one thing you have missed that is not that obvious. It would still work but would leave zero room for error. I would be interested in how you have it planned. Perhaps after I show it maybe you did the same thing. Gary
Thank you Jim! It can be very involved but you can also make an easy one. If you want easy I am sure I could come up with something that will be as easy as it gets. Thanks for watching, Gary
I would love to see more on segmented turning,I want to learn as much as I can on this , I want to know this imformation as I am teaching my daughter to turn.thank you
Thank you very much Dennis. If you look back on my videos you can find a lot of segmented turnings. th-cam.com/video/u5mX513Z9OI/w-d-xo.html This is a list of most of them. Thanks for watching, Gary
Great instructional video Gary!! Always amazed at how you accomplish what you do, and would certainly appreciate a video of the "step process"! Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family, and "keep turning"!
Love your work. Yes please! I would like to see the video on the steps!
Thank you Douglas I appreciate you watching and I have the video in the plans.
Gary

Stunning effect. Looking forward to the video.
Thank you John and for sure I will be making that video.
Gary
Awesome!! i Show this bowl to my wife.
Key board is too small for me LOL
So the spray nozzel sucks and I give it a -10.
Thanks Tim
Thank you Tim. Maybe it is time you start? I will try and make this one easy.
Gary
Yet again really nice Gary. I do love your segmented work. A steps video would be brilliant Gary. 👍🏴
Thank you Jim. I will be working on that video soon. I need to plan out how to explain it best.
Thanks for watching my friend,
Gary
Hi Papa
Beautifull segmented bowl. Love to see the step for the stairs . We have made segmented bowl yet . I have made a bravery bead box the was already had the segmented pieces cut and l glued the together and turned it.
Thanks Maria and David Wise😂
Thank you Maria and David. The video on the steps is on my list.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Beautiful turning Gary. The steps are a great feature and it would be interesting to see how you do those. Have a blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much Mark. We are very busy at church with new Advent and Christmas songs. The wife and I are both in the choir. We have around 25 singers but I play guitar.
All the best to your for the Christmas season,
Gary
Gary
Thanks for the video😊 yes to a video on the sreps😮
You are welcome Charles and the video will be made as soon as I free up some time.
Gary
Very nice, I love the information, this is a beautiful design, I would like to see another video.
Thank you David and for sure I will be putting a video together on this soon.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
As usual, you did a great job on this bowl. Cherry is the best choice of wood for this type of segmented project. I would like to see a video on the steps. 👍👍👍
Thanks so much and I will be making a video on those steps soon..
I appreciate you watching and commenting,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I'll keep an eye out for the video. Thanks for sharing your processes. I watched your post on the jig for the vortex bowl and I made the jig about 2 years ago and made a bowl using the pieces that were cut with the jig. My bowl from a board was not turned though. I cut it on the scroll saw and a lot of sanding.
Wonderful work! YES would love to see how you made the steps? God bless you and your work!!
Thanks, I'm planning on making that video soon.
And God bless you as well.
Gary
I always like a surprise at the end, Gary. It is a beautiful bowl and the steps are really special. I would like to see a video on how you made the steps. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Kent. As soon as I take care of a few commitments I will get on it.
Gary
Such a pleasure to see such an artful piece come together. Love the stairway.
Thanks so much Doug I appreciate your comments and thanks for watching,
Gary
Great job as always! Please show us how you made the illusion
Thank you Bruce, I will be making a video on that soon.
Gary
Amazing Gary.
My eyes were plying with me as the steps alternated from normal to being upside-down.
Take care my friend and yes please for the video explaining how to do that.
Hwyl, Huw
Thank you Huw, yes it can flip upside down just looking at it.
Makes my head spin as well but it does not take much LOL.
Hwyl,
Gary
It would be nice to see how you did that….. mindblowing at the end ! I was thinking something was different while you were sanding. Blown away!
Which it is but I need to explain without stumbling LOL
Take care my friend,
Gary
Great job. After watching you I'm ready to fire up my lathe, which has been dormant for several years! Looking forward to your "steps" video.
Thank you Bob. The video is coming soon.
For sure get back on that lathe!
Gary
I really enjoy your segmenting videos, best on TH-cam I’m sure!! I would really appreciate seeing the details on the steps illusion. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Thanks so much, I am working on the steps video now!
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Would love to see how you did the steps. Thank you so much for your videos. Enjoy them very much.
Thanks, and you are most welcome. The steps video is in the works!
I appreciate you watching and commenting,
Gary
I would love to see how you did the steps.
Great job on the bowl 👍
Thank you Peter and I will start working on the video soon.
Gary
Awesome bowl, Gary. The steps feature adds quite a bit of intrest to what would be plain Jane bowl without it. A future video on making the steps would be nice, but i realize that is a lot of extra work for you. In short with or without that video, I am happy to see your handy work. GOOD ONE, Gary!
Thanks John. Yes it is kind of a plain John shape but the Cherry is pretty amazing.
I had to switch the Jane part because someone very close to me has that for a middle name 😉
More than likely even without the interest I am sure I will show how to do the steps. I spent some time figuring out how to make it fool proof. Now I could just find a fool ... oh I guess that is me LOL
would love to see a video on building the steps. Thank you for all your videos you are a master
Thank you Gene, I appreciate you watching and commenting, I will be working on a video about the steps soon.
Gary
That's not only a very beautiful piece but also has the mystery of "Gary's 8 steps to glorious bowls."🤣👍
Thank you very much Rama. Your description was very clever and made me smile.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Wow, Gary, the 'steps' illusion is amazing! I haven't tried any segmented turnings yet ... one day I will, and I will revisit your videos for the instructions - and inspiration! Thank you, Sir.
Thank you David I appreciate you watching and have fun when you do try a segmented turning.
Gary
Love watching all your videos. Keep them coming
Thanks for watching,
Gary
That is very nice, Gary! Lovely! The steps are awesome!
Thank you so much Billy. I see a lot of illusion similar in the knitting world. This one is a bit trickier than a lot of illusions. Not that it is harder but harder to see how it is done. Till you see it! LOL
Thanks for watching my friend,
Gary
Gary, I too love working with cherry. And as I’ve said a few times your segmented turning are my favorites. Yes please do a video on how you made those steps. I’m also very interested in how you figure out how to design and make those segments.
Great video, thank you
Thank you Ian I appreciate your comments and am planning out the video right now. It might be a few weeks as I have a number of other things going on.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Thanks. I think I will turn my current blank into a pencil pot and start again, making individual rings as you do here.
That’s a beautiful bowl Gary can’t wait to learn the secrets about the steps thankyou for sharing Gary stay safe
Thanks Ronnie I will be working on it soon.
Take care,
Gary
Very nice bowl and yes I would like to see a video for the steps so I could give it a shot. I like doing illusion . Thank You
Thanks Roger. I have gotten material out to make that video.
Thanks for watching.,
Gary
I love the steps and would love to see a video of how you did that...beautiful bowl!
Thanks Carol. I will make that video as soon as I get some free time. I seem to have too many things cooking at the time LOL
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Beautiful bit of work and wonderful surprise. Would love to see how you did it and all the other tips you have for straight up and down also! Thanks for every thing you do, you put all your heart into it!
Thank you very much Kevin. I do love doing these and sharing how to do it.
I appreciate you watching and the video is in the works.
Gary
Another masterpiece! I would love to learn more about the ‘steps for the steps’! (But I’m pretty sure it is far too complex for my skill level). That makes me appreciate it even more! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you Sue. Hopefully when I get the video together on how to do this it will not seem so complexed. You can save it till you are ready to give it a try.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Holy Moly that was an amazing surprise at the end, and I would love to learn how it is done. You created a piece with that extra wow factor. Thank you so much I really do appreciate the effort you put in to help others achieve beautiful creations. ,cheers, Dave.
Thanks so much Dave. Happy you liked it enough to get a Wow Factor..much appreciated.
I will be making video and was just thinking of how to really make it easy. You will understand once I do it.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Great work on this one! Cherry always makes a great segmented vessel. Yes, I would love to see the clever method I know you used to create the steps.
Thank you Ken I appreciate you watching. I will be making the video in the near future.
Gary
nice looking bowl
Thank you Delbert I appreciate you watching,
Gary
YES. Please produce the step video. As always, thanks Gary. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Mac.
Thank you Lauri and I will be working on it soon.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Gary
Very impressive.
Thank you very much Mark.
Take care,
Gary
Great looking result - Please show us how you do the steps.
Thank you Gene and I have the video in the works.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Excellent Gary. I would like to see the step process as well.
RP
Thank you RP! The steps video will be coming soon.
Gary
Very nice. Cherry is a great choice. I would like to see a video of the process for making the steps. Beautiful as always!
Thank you Greg and I will get the video made when time permits.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Oh, please make the "step" video. The optical illusion is amazing!! Amazing
Charlotte I appreciate the kind words! I'm working on the video now.
Gary
Thank you.
Thank you David I appreciate your comments. I look forward hearing from you on more of my videos.
Gary
PLEASE DO THE STEPS VIDEO! Love your videos.
Thank you Ed, it will be coming soon. This is a very busy time of the year but I am working on it. I cut a lot of pieces to be ready.
Gary
That must be the best, simplest, and most easily understood illustration made by segmenting. It totally looks like sunset at the castle turret with the staircase winding up and around.
And as for wanting to see how it is fine, I'm not good at seeing things and not knowing how they were done, so you know I don't do segmented turning, but I really would love to see that video.
And it looks like the replacement lacquer will do, that finish is perfect.
Thanks so much for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'll be sure to post the steps video soon!
Garry that really did turn lovely and these steps are just amazing mate well done.
Thank you Alan I appreciate your comments,
Gary
I’d like to see how you do the steps. The bowl and finish are spot on . I really happy you mentioned the change in name for the Deft spray lacquer.
Thank you Dale! I will be doing that video as soon as I can fit it in.
I still see Deft listed in places and the only place I have seen the new name is Ace Hardware. So maybe that is something Ace is doing.
Either way I do not like it as good as Deft.
Thanks for watching.,
Gary
I've made two segmented bowls to date. So much fun! Love to see any tips and tricks you can share. Great work!
Thank you Craig. I really enjoy segmented turning. Sometimes it takes awhile to get them done but worth it.
Thanks for watchin,
Gary
love it. Yes I would like to see a video with the steps
Thank you Joey I appreciate you watching.
Video will be in the works soon.
Gary
BTW really enjoyed the cherry segmented video
Thank you Charles!
Brilliant video Gary, and definitely would love to see how you made those steps! Cheers,Bram
Thanks so much Bram I appreciate you watching. I will get that video out in a few weeks. A lot going on right now but sure look forward to doing it.
Take care my friend,
Gary
Your 'simple' bowl is an example of your creative mind! Excellent piece!
Thanks Jim for the kind words and I appreciate you watching!
Love this one
Thank you Richard I appreciate you watching and commenting,
Gary
Very beautiful and creative! I've done a few segmented turnings, and learned a lot from your video on Woodturner Pro, and would love to see how you did the steps!
Thank you very much Israel. I will work the video in as soon as I can.
Gary
You always do amazing work. This time...wow. I really like those steps. But, the finish on the cherry...wow, just wow.
Thank you very much Michael for your kind words.
Take care,
Gary
Great to see how you do it Gary, think I’ve worked it out hopefully just need some confirmation.
Sure thing John. There might be one thing you have missed that is not that obvious. It would still work but would leave zero room for error. I would be interested in how you have it planned. Perhaps after I show it maybe you did the same thing.
Gary
Great explanation on segments, Gary. Looking forward to the steps.
Don
Thank you Donald, I am working on the steps video. Hopefully soon.
Gary
Looks amazing Gary. I have wanted to give segmented a try but a bit intimidated by the process. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you Jim! It can be very involved but you can also make an easy one. If you want easy I am sure I could come up with something that will be as easy as it gets.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Hello Papa, beautiful job. Hugs from Brazil
Obrigado and thanks for watching.
Take care.
Gary
Hi Gary I would love a video on your steps Love your channel

Thank you Michael. I am planning out how to show it and make it easy to understand.
Take care,
Gary
I would love to see more on segmented turning,I want to learn as much as I can on this , I want to know this imformation as I am teaching my daughter to turn.thank you
Thank you very much Dennis. If you look back on my videos you can find a lot of segmented turnings.

This is a list of most of them.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Great instructional video Gary!! Always amazed at how you accomplish what you do, and would certainly appreciate a video of the "step process"! Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family, and "keep turning"!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! I'm working on that video now, I hope it makes sense.
Gary
Oh YES! I would very much like to see how you made those steps! Love your illusion!
Thank you Frank it is coming soon.
