I get tenderness after wearing shoes around the ATFL and inferior peroneal retinaculum. Wearing compression socks has helped with swelling and will try the Ghost shoes while I wait for appointments. Has been off and on since an ankle injury a year ago.

I sprained my ankle 24th ago slipping down stairs.
Ice pack 20- 30 mins every 3 hours. Elevate foot above my head, and a gentle bandage & mild compression sock have done wonders. Imo allow for swelling to happen whilst adding comfortable pressure to minimalise it. Always remove when sleeping.
Ankle supports are readily available on Amazon & I've ordered mine on next day prime delivery. I know from a bad sprain I had many years ago the strap up ones really help. Plus they're so much easier to get the right support at home above a normal crepe bandage. They're cheap too. I got mine for £5.99
I was advised by the UK Health service advisory line to take ibuprofen. But I only took 2 doses as I've read that they can thin the blood & stall healing. So now only paracetamol strictly as on the packet. In USA I believe it's called Tylenol. Taking too much can really do damage, so imo never take more than they state.
Fingers crossed this gets me up & about in a week's time. My sprain was really painful & I could barely walk on it this morning. That said, it's got a lot better throughout the day.
All the very best everyone. It's a nasty shock when it unexpectedly happens.
Thank goodness I wear classic style Emu boots a lot. I think they strengthened my feet before this happened. They have robust yet lightweight PVA soles. Their ankle support is plyable thin plastic, not cardboard. Plus they.have high welfare standards for their sheep.
I'm hoping they've helped keep my ankles & feet in good alignment prior to my littlle mishap lol.
My swelling & bruising so far is surprisingly fairly minimal. Yeah it's there but it hasn't got worse & my flexibility is good already.

I experienced a low level depression too, until I saw another comment about depression due to an ankle injury... I was able to catch it, and focus on improving... being limited on movement, getting out of the house,... was hard.... I am finally in a walking cast for 3 weeks, able to put weight on my foot, after 2 months since my injury... I have a different appreciation for what people have to cope with with an injury that keeps you couch and or homebound!! Thanks for your comment and I hope you are doing better.

My only comment about shoes is that the fat soft soles like in Hoka I believe led to my sprain. I have exactly what you show, broken ankle and 2 grade 3 tears. I run 100 mile races so I thought I need lots of cushion, but I need to start healthy more. I am switching to La Sportiva with the harder mid-soles.

I sprained my left ankle 9 months ago. My mobility and strength is back to normal(i think at least) but for some reason there still slight pain in my ankle. It doesnt really hinder me in anyway and i can still play sports without any problems. Im just worried why it still hurts a bit even though i should be fully healed by now. On top of that i have knee tendinitis in my knee now too and i dont know if its related to my ankle or not? Can anybody help?🙏

Hello I love your videos thank you.
I sprained my ankle three weeks ago. The MRI shows I have small foci of bone contusion/microtrbecular injuries affecting the distal and plantar aspect of the cuboid and the media plantar aspect of the talar Head accompanied by a discrete fracture plane or fracture deformity.
Moderately large joint efusion without synovitis.
High-grade near complete full thickness ATFL tear with some preserved remnant superior fibers
Mild tenosynovitis of the medial flexor compartment.
My question is is this really bad how long do I need to rest my foot or my ankle?
When do I need to start physical therapy?

I have grade 3 ankle sprain. How long does it usually takes to put some weight on it? And when it safe to start to walk on it? I can’t put weight on it now but also I’m worried that if I tried too hard and start putting weight and walking on it too early that wouldn’t be good for the healing. Thank you for all of the information! I had a grade 3 sprain (ruptured ATFL and CFL) and sprained deltoid ligament with a tiny avulsion to the medial malleolus. This happened 6 weeks ago. Knowing that information, should I be concerned that I can't wiggle my last three two toes at all? When I gently poke them I have sensation on my skin but inside they feel like pins and needles. I also still feel pins and needles in my heel and all through the bottom of my foot when I try to weight bear. I've seen two doctors now.

I fell about 8ft from an indoor rock climbing wall 3 months ago. I still have a lot of ankle pain. Upon falling I landed like a gymnast with both feet flat down. I believe I absorbed the shock up through the inside of my right leg before rolling my ankle inward. The inside of my knee hurt for awhile, but that has healed. My ankle swells up, but I do work on my feet. The one thing I can't figure out is why the inside of my foot hurts equally. The soft spot right at the back inside of my foot. A pinching pain at times. When I dorsiflex my foot I have the most pain that radiates around the outside of my ankle. When injured I had brushing going up the outside of my leg and along the bottom of my foot. No broken bone. I can't afford an MRI so I'm really just hoping this pain subsides soon and I can finally go back to the gym. If you read this far and have any knowledge on what might be going on please comment. Thank you!

@@r4lpf I have been weight lifting again since February. Lifting has significantly helped my mobility. I went back to the climbing gym a few days ago. I think my ankle is more capable than I can mentally wrap my head around. I was really nervous climbing and didn't finish climbs because I was afraid I'd miss a grab and fall. I did however flash a three which isn't bad more me because that's where I was when I got injured. I was working on 4s. I did an overhang and when I came down because again I was nervous to continue, I landed first on my injured ankle and then my other. That hurt a bit but it didn't bother me for the whole day. Not sure if that helps. I have decided to continue weight lifting and put off climbing. I think my ankle can handle it just not the impact from falling or jumping down. I will try again come next year.

Wow. This is like better than what most doctors have told me. I sprained my ankle playing basketball a March 8th and the first doctor told me it “looked” like I had an Avulsion fracture after my X-rays came back. Then another doctor a few weeks later told me there was actually not fracture (after taking another one) so now I’m just doing physical therapy but my ankle isn’t healing fast enough. It’s healing but I feel like it’s very slow. I’m confused and would wish I knew exactly what it was so that I could know how to attack the problem better.

Thanks for your information it was useful and wonderful, 18 months ago I got inversion during a football match however I did an X-Ray but it didn't show anything and the doctor told me that it is not serious go and rest for a few days then slowly start your exercises again after rest I have done after rest when I started doing sport pain started again until it became worse.
I have referred back to doctor he told me to do MRI and the following is the result of MRI:
    1. Subchondral fracture of dome of talus bone with associated surrounding moderate edema.
    2. Mild free fluid in tibiotalar joint space.
    3. Sprain of anterior tibiotalar ligament.
since that time i have used different medicines under treatment of doctors the front pain is solved but still pain suffers me from the right side and back of ankle some them of doctors say that there is no need for surgery it will be ok in the feature but some says that it wouldn't be back to its normal situation and also no chances of surgical operation. And one thing to be mentioned that there is no instability of ankle I can walk even run but after the muscles becomes starts its pain looking forward for your kind instructions.

Is it normal to have no dorsiflexion after 1 month of ankle sprain? I couldn't bear weight for a couple weeks, and couldn't walk at all for 2.5 weeks. I'm walking now, but with a heavy limp. It feels like something is physically in front and top of the ankle at joint not letting me bend. It's still swollen around the ankle, and a lot of the spots on the foot and even above the ankle are still tender. The dorsiflexion is the one thing that is not progressing for me. Other things were gradually getting better every day or two.
I'm doing regular rehab with exercising, massaging, and all that. X rays showed no fractures.

But too much with a shoe hitting the ankle, and it begins to hurt plus without an ace bandage on, it is really unstable. One wrong move and it hurts. Could my sprain have been worse than I thought? Or did I re-injure it by not wearing an ace bandage on it? I see my doctor in a couple of days but I am stressed out as I had been doing cardio exercises daily before this happened and now just trying to do 15 minutes is difficult. 😞

4+ weeks can be normal for a grade 2 or 3, but if it keeps getting worse it might not be supported properly as of yet 😊🙏

Adam, that is definitely a tough pain to have. If it doesn't get better just make sure to check with your podiatrist or primary care doctor to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.

Here I am one week away from the end of my “Short Term Disability” and I am supposed to return to work after 3 months and I have developed an infection my ankle! So sorry, but “F” this guy and all his “advice”!!!
