Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I’m a Mark Whittle too and have had a 100 series for many years as well but now with a van with a heavy 260kg TBW I need to look at a GVM upgrade. I’m considering ❤one down here in Bunbury from Dapco using Pedders gear. It only raises my GVM to 3595kg but that should be enough and mean I won’t have to remove my drawers & fridge slide. I also had the OME suspension but that’s gonna have to go. Funnily enough, Kevlar pads are part of the GVM upgrade. They also recommended slotted rotors but I have only just had new rotors fitted late last year.
A 3” exhaust has been on my wish list for years, even decided on the Manta one when I talked to the guys at a 4x4 or caravan show. Uncanny how many similarities between us.
I look forward to following your adventures. Cheers, Mark

      Thats just uncanny!
Yeh ive heard that GVM upgrade is the way to go, i dont think it was available when i was looking.
3595 would suit me just perfectly, even just to the acle rating of 3.5 would do me.
The cara been unreal lately, im down in Tas at the moment and its pulling my van up these hills like a freight train

Thanks for the video, plus the comments and your answers, really helpful. I ordered an LC300 last year, due for delivery in Aug/Sep. I am currently having doubts, thinking a 100 series turbo will do the same job, just a bit slower up the hills. Our van has a 2600 tare, 3000 fully loaded, with 280-300 ball weight, how does this compare to your van. Cheers

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey mate, mines 3100 fully loaded but only 240-250 on the ball. It seems light but everything is loaded quite well and its never budged so it seems happy at that 7-8% range.
The car does the job well, plenty of power, the big hills between cairns and atherton table lands was a 3rd gear job but every other hill has been 4th and not much of a concern.
I just wish i paid for GVM upgrade years ago, too hard and too expensive to find a nationally recognised one now without starting from scratch. So i had to lose a lot of the accessories i wish i could have on the car itself

A couple of things i did on my 200 series that id do again on any auto vehicle id have in future....engine remap, trans remap and lock up kit ( ironically done in Perth when i was over there in 2017, i live in Vic ) 500 kg springs in rear, and dba t2 survival front rotors. Not to gratuitously plug my chan, however, theres vids there with old mate kelpie and the van i tow if youre bored.

Im still running the dual batteries that come standard in Parrallel, i run Amaron batteries though that seem to be a mix between deep cycle and cranking, they are 4 years old and still test new so ive been happy with them, when we were off grid camping i could run my engel for 3-4 days and use led lights at night and still start the car to give some idea of what its capable of.

      Hey Saxon,
The two batteries have there own purpose, the passenger is your starter and the driver side is your accessory one the two batteries are in place to run the prestart heater as there’s no need for glow plugs. So at start the heater will draw 90amps for 30 seconds to heat the air going in… which in oz is a waste of time I disconnected mine 7 years ago and it starts perfectly fine and will save your alternator in the long run..

    • @Ourwhittleadventure

Couple of reasons, 1 being (and correct me if i am wrong) you cant actually tune this engine itself. You achieve so with a tuneable chip like unichip.
2, it was cost based as i had a mate with a manta chip not being used so it didnt cost me anything to plug it in.

      Hey guys,
In all seriousness i think you will be well and truly over your vehicles GVM unless you have an upgrade.
Your payload is 610kg on those cars standard.
A 2.7ton van can potentially have 270kg towball weight.
So you have 340kg left for fuel, passengers and accessories.
I would suggest you start by getting your car weighed with everything you would have travelling except for the van and see what you have left.
In regards to places to see, that whole Cape Naturaliste to cape leeuwin area is amazing. Albany to walpole is absolutely stunning, elephant rocks and green pool a must.

GVM is Gross Vehicle Mass and is the total your cars weight can be on its axles so it includes all accessories, fuel, passengers and towball weight from the trailer.
Standard those cars have 610kg of payload to cover all that extra so very easy to go over without an upgrade to a bigger GVM rating.
It doesnt take away from towing capacity in a sense but if you have no payload left for your towball weight then you can’t tow anything legally.
