    Didn't take me long to notice Raider was the most important merc in the game. Btw, one of the best uses of Raider is actually training leadership on idle times, since not only is he the best trainer in the game, his leadership is at a ridiculous level (compared to his other above average values that most trainees reach pretty early) and can easily bring the initially weak, but smart 90+ wis team up to speed, who can then start spreading the love around

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, definitely. I am doing training sessions on MD to fully utilize him. Fox is still in my main team though, so...maybe she can learn when they dont have anything better to do. With Fox in the Team Buns is out unfortunately. And with Raider in the Team Hitman is also out. ^^

  • @KordanorsGamingLair
    @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว +5

    With Patch 1.1 this has been changed and now Leadership only provides the movement speed in a way that the tooltip suggests. Meaning with Leadership 85 you are now actually 60% faster and not reducing traveling time by 60%. For very low leadership it will now take slightly longer to travel, between 20-50 Leadership barely anything changes. Beyond that the impact gets bigger. 100 leadership will now take more than twice as long than before.

    And you didn't even go into detail about using LDR to level up your squad which can be ludicrously strong (if given the right teacher).
    Some testing I did: Teaching leadership with a character that had 98 Leadership (this simplifies it, because it usually takes into account both LDR and the stat you want to teach).
    For students, 20 points of wisdom equated to about 60% more learning with all else being the same.
    The distribution is pretty much a rational function, though the rounding errors make it impossible to pin down.
    Most crucial: Even at an extremely high level, a high WSD student will learn 8 points. This means that a perfect teacher can get a perfect student from 0 to 91 in 7 steps (14 days). Since there is no limit on the amount of students, this also means that a good IMP character that has been fed magazines can take a bunch of recruits from ~70 in AGI/DEX/MMS to 91 in 4 steps each.

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I didnt test with that. Well, just to increase leadership to values for militia testing. So even after 80, that's 8 points per 48 hours? That's quite a lot. But on the other hand 4 Steps, or 8 days is still a long time which you pay your squad for just the training.

    • @DrZaius3141
      @DrZaius3141 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KordanorsGamingLair For example, Barry who was sitting at 99 wisdom (found a lot of mines) and starting with 30 leadership at my final save before the final battle. He went 30 -> 46 -> 58 -> 68 -> 77 -> 85 -> 91 (learning cap).
      The other extreme for me was Mouse (75 wisdom) who went 12 -> 28 -> 38 -> 46 -> 53 -> 59 -> 64 -> 69 -> 74 -> 78 -> 82 -> 86 -> 90 which is admittedly less impressive.
      As for the money, it pays of in the long run if you do it right. Think of a high wisdom/low cost squad (Barry, MD, Livewire, Buns) - they cost $30k for a 14-day stretch. If you train them to 91 Dex/Agi/Mms it will take 20 days (4 times agi because of MD, 2 times dex because of MD, 4 times mms because of Livewire). Now you suddenly have 4 mercs with the fighting stats of Ivan who TOGETHER cost less than him (side note: Their cost will go up, but not by that much - although I would have to run further tests how much it actually increases. Right now I believe that their level is the bigger issue than their skills, but I might be wrong here and it's hard to test.) which saves you money in the long run. Obviously, there are some caveats - for one, your IMP merc starts with 85, so they're not quite ready for that strategy out of the gate, yet it's certainly something that is most useful if done after you capture your first mine. On the other hand, later in the game it gets even more efficient because you can train so many mercs at the same time.
      To be honest, I did play with the infinite mines mod, so I can't reliably state how big an issue money would be, but when you control diamond couriers, you can control the economy quite a bit.

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrZaius3141 Yeah, but you would also need to get to a point where you can afford that first. I am playing on MI which also comes with less starting money and without getting 2 mines running, you would run out of money if you spent that much time training. Once that is going you might be fine to do so. But then again I feel like in 20-30 days I can probably conquer half the world already. ^^
      Ofc it also comes down to playstyle.

    • @DrZaius3141
      @DrZaius3141 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KordanorsGamingLair 30k for 14 days is a bit over 2k per day, so it's really not that bad and certainly not 2-mine-territory. As for the game time, it's again an investment - you put in 20 days early on (which can be as little as 5 real-life minutes, which is also crucial for some) and in turn you have a much easier time at fighting meaning fewer wounds. So when it comes to real time, it should save you quite a bit, with in-game time you're probably right that those saved wounds won't add up to 20 days. To me, it makes the game less annoying when your mercs can actually hit stuff and not just function as utility bots.

    If MD can get that high leadership by being trained by Raider, I wonder how much Buns can get. The teacher trait also stacks, so using both MD and Buns, with them trained can be really great. Get your IMP to train them, so that your IMP can take your main squad around the map.

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you can just add the values together essentially. As its just doubling it, it means that basically Buns+MD are as good as 4 other people with the same leadership value without the trait.

  • @ShadePL
    @ShadePL ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This video is an eye-opener for me. I didn't know that with high leadership, a squad could travel that fast. So, if I want a decent travel speed, I should pick leadership at least multiplied by 25, starting from 50 ? (50 or 75 and not 48 or 66 for example ?).

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Traveling speed and the gains you get from that are actually kinda exponentially and snowballing. So the more you have, the better. Personally I would not take anything for the main group below the 85 Leadership of the main character - or hire Raider. The thing is, that tons of things also scale with time. Like, with more leadership, you can basically play without mines, as you are going from sector to sector so quickly, you can basically survive via hacking and diamond shipments. If you don't rest, repair, heal often, combined with high speed, you can also avoid high merc costs, because they will only ask for more money after certain time thresholds. So my characters at the moment which already got 4-5 Level ups didnt ask for a single wage increase yet.
      However, you can also argue that you have enough money anyways. Secondly, it's not unlikely that this will be patched with the "big patch" mid August, so I wouldn't rely on focus the whole playstyle on it.

  • @jonathanbourke305
    @jonathanbourke305 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Piggybacking off what you mentioned at the end about being "forced" to take Raider; the game sorely needs more mercs so you can have more options in creating your squads. I feel like there are far too many "soldier/sniper" options, and not enough specialists (mechanic/explosives/medic). Add to that merc relationships, dislikes, and flat out refusals to join your team, playthroughs can feel quite constricted as far as your choices go. I recently started a playthrough trying to use mercs I didn't use on my last game just for variety, and I literally limped through the first half just because I didn't take optimal choices. Still fun, but the way the game is set up now, there aren't many good options for game start. Basically means if you aren't taking Livewire, Barry, and MD at game start, you're more or less giving yourself problems on purpose.

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, there are alternatives, but basically...ONE alternative which isn't as optimal. You don't need MD at all, medicine is the least of the problems. If you don't take Barry you need to take Red though, and if you don't take Livewire you basically need to take Steroid... or you need to create an IMP with these strengths. The issue is, that JA3 barely meets the critical mass of mercs to make it work. With its amount "it just works", but it doesnt leave you much choices like JA1/2 did. I mean think of Smoke or Kaboom or Skitz as explosive experts ^^

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KordanorsGamingLair Agreed generally, and you definitely get the point. Still, MD is so cheap and has so much potential because of his WIS, its kinda like "why not?" In JA2 you had so many other options, I can remember Gasket being a popular choice for a cheap starter mechanic, and for a bit more investment Danny as day 1 medic with outstanding potential. We just need more choices.

    .. dont waste high leadership on militia.. Use it to train your imp char , who has high wisdom.. during that time, use other mercs

      That's also an option. Personally I will now just go with Raider instead for my current run as the "leader" of the active party.

    Yup, time is money. People playing without an high leadership Imp or Raider are going broke. Also as I said smaller groups are better early game since you're gonna get a better Xp spread. The Gold Members are GOOD yet I'll rather keep that money, you can really get by just supporting the Imp for a long while.

      Yeah, but I guess that's also down to playstyle. I don't see how an "active" second group without a good leader could be financially viable though. Not talking about groups for training and stuff
