    Use Take Cover and Sneak in combat together. Take Cover transfers up to 5 action points into your next turn. It costs 4 to initiate and you need to be in cover. So optimal to use when you have 9 AP.
    If you break line of sight with the enemy you can re-enter stealth for only 2 AP. This also puts you into crouch automatically. So you can run somewhere and as long as you have 2 AP left you will enter stealth and crouch.
    Lots of uses for these two abilities together. For example I use Buns early game as a sniper with some other mercs hidden in front of her in overwatch with assault rifles. After combat opens (usually with a shot from Buns) I will hide her and then take cover. The next turn I will have 5 extra AP so enough to take a shot then move her to break line of sight and re-enter stealth. The enemy knows she's there but can't shoot at her until they get close enough so they advance blindly into the overwatch cones of my hidden assault rifle mercs.

    Modern suppressors have no effect on accuracy. You may see a difference in point of impact between having a suppressor mounted or dismounted, however.

      @cellobass6195 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I think the myth comes from games, where having a suppressor usually gives such an advantage that it has to have a trade-off.

    • @InternetStudiesGuy
      @InternetStudiesGuy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Realistically: Most suppressors simply wouldn't do anything in the game, because all bullets in the game are supersonic, with the possible exception of the MP5Ks, and the subsonic 9mm bullets. Supersonic bullets cause a loud sonic boom. Most rifle suppressors are also far too small to be "silent", they would help with hearing protection for the user, but still be pretty damn loud even if you disregard the problem of the sonic boom. To use actually silenced firearms you would have to use specialized guns and ammunition, which mean those weapons have not only much reduced range, but also power. Suppressors are a good idea for hearing protection, but to be stealthy and get the "fwup" instead of the bang, you need to go to great lengths that impair the basic functionality of the gun, not just put a spray can at the end of the barrel.

    • @PrimarchX
      @PrimarchX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@InternetStudiesGuy When used with supersonic ammo, suppressors are handy for limiting the weapon's report, acting as a muzzle break and significantly reducing the muzzle flash. When being shot at you will hear the supersonic crack but probably not the sound of the cartridge discharge. This makes locating the source of fire challenging, especially at longer ranges.

    • @pultsari9036
      @pultsari9036 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PrimarchX Second that. This is exactly why modern sniper rifles are often equipped with a suppressor, despite the ~Mach3 muzzle velocity. While it isn't silent it's still not as loud as when unsuppressed, hides the muzzle flame, and can do as good a job in reducing recoil as a muzzle brake.
      Still, I have once had the opportunity to try a suppressed Uzi loaded with sunsonic ammo and damn it was ghastly. The loudest sound I heard while firing bursts was the slight sound of the bolt racing back and forth.

  • @dicecylinder
    @dicecylinder 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Suppressors IRL have negligible or no effect on accuracy or anything else. In fact, the only real drawbacks to using a good, modern suppressor (additional length & bulk) are so small compared to their immense benefits that the entirety of US Marine Corps is now planning to equip every single marine in with a suppressed weapon - all riflemen, machine-gunners shooting full-auto, etc. The only reason suppressors are shown to have any major drawbacks is Hollywood genre cliches and traditional arcadey videogame approach to balance.
    Of course real rifle suppressors can't make rifles nearly this quiet either, they don't even make them hearing-safe. The point is to make the shooter harder to precisely and quickly locate in the middle of a raging battle. You need special pistols like Hi-Standard .22 or PSS Vul chambered in pathetic tiny subsonic pistol cartridges, to have the Hollywood suppressor effect; worthless in battle but you could headshot a sentry during a thunderstorm and his buddies 50 yards away probably won't recognize it before you're upon them. Also, "improvised suppressors" (like the one from a plastic bottle in Max Payne 3) are worthless. They'll reduce the first shot noise by maybe 20 dB (still not hearing safe), as they blow up into shrapnel. You indeed need a steel pipe (and some machine-tools) to make one, it's not hard at all even for a novice metalworker but obviously super illegal in many countries.

    • @zanaduz2018
      @zanaduz2018 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The loudest part of most rifle shots (that pass at "near miss" range to the target, assuming the target is the point listening) is generally the sonic boom (audible as a "crack") of the bullet. A suppressor does not and cannot remove this sonic boom unless it manages to slow the round down to under the speed of sound (at which point it'd be better to be firing subsonic ammunition anyways).

  • @madrooky1398

    Not sure how accurate this is but I heard that some suppressors actually have the effect of a longer barrel, more accuracy and range. I mean it makes sense to me.
    In video games its a measure of balancing to have a negative effect, like in MGS, but IRLsuppressors certainly don't wear out any faster than a barrel. They may overheat and deform, but that's a different issue...

    Suppressors don't remove accuracy. If anything they might increases accuracy but lower bullet velocity due to being an extension on the barrel length. However it would be a very, VERY small change either way.

    • @Liikavarvas2
      @Liikavarvas2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Extending barrel length improves bullet velocity. The gases from the gunpowder have more time to propel the projectile.
      Also suppressors increase precision because they lower recoil and reduce barrel vibrations due to the added weight at the end of the barrel.
      The myth of lower velocity comes from subsonic rounds, which indeed are much slower and produce very little sound when fired. I use a suppressor on my hunting rifle and it does reduce noise drastically even with supersonic loads.

  • @user-ve5ei2xe8h
    @user-ve5ei2xe8h 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Suppressors should not lower your accuracy. They would even lower felt recoil.
    Subsonic ammunition on the other hand does come with a much steeper ballistic curve and would be less accurate over longer distances.

  • @ElMachoMucho

    Mobility and flanking is king in this game. Having perk to increase dmg to flanked targets to 35% and a couple high agility mercs with Fast Runner and Frogleaping will change the way you play and is a lot more fun than sniping away from stealth.
    Overwatch gives you more attacks on paper, but when you realize none of those shots are aimed, you dont get as much hits as you would if you used Take Cover instead and saved AP for a more effective turn. Also enemies will get closer if they cant hit you effectively while you are in cover, which makes them even easier to hit. Overwatch is only good with a specialized weapon, like AK-47 with recoil booster, light stock and bipod mods, and at short to medium range only.

    • @user-ic8ln8fq8h
      @user-ic8ln8fq8h 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are wrong and right at the same time. Overwatch is supposed to be used on targets that are changing their locations and currently not in cover and in clear line of sight. Accuracy doesn't matter in that case. But some of the guns supports sight mods that grant medium bonus to accuracy during OW. Perfect example of utilizing that mechanic is next: you flank or catch your enemy in plain field, then you go for a leg shot and initialize OW. Bots are bound to get at least one good burst from that, combine that with low cost attacks and you get devastating combo. But the most efficient way to play with it is ofc to assign few mercs to overwatch - 2 or 3 guys with AR's will do a juicy job, it's rather for combined merc's efforts i would say, than for one soldier

    • @cragnamorra
      @cragnamorra 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What I've found is that it's indeed pretty challenging at first, even on First Blood difficulty. The mercs, weapons, ammo, etc all suck. Wounds are frequent, downed (or dead) mercs are common. Missed shots, etc. But then once the mercs get to around level 4/5 or so (which happens fairly quickly), and get some good perks (there's a couple which are just outright OP), some better weapons, and have improved some key stats (most notably MRK/DEX for firearms characters, which is probably most of team), then most fights get pretty trivialized.
      And I'm not talking about "high-end" gear like the best AR's, sniper rifles, and such. "Mid-grade" stuff like Dragunov snipers and M-14 assault rifles become routinely accessible pretty early in a playthrough. With proper modifications, these are pretty potent weapons which could probably serve very well all the way through if needed.
      I guess my point is that the typical "power creep" of such games here isn't really "creep"...it's more like an early-mid game "flicking a light switch" moment where almost overnight the characters transform from bums into monsters. At least the perception I have after four playthroughs (I'll admit I haven't tried Mission Impossible difficulty yet).

      or you hire Dr. Q or the dude that can sneak and run at the same time. Dr. Q can incapacite an enemy indefinitely and in 2 turns deal with it. This game normally deals stealth like picking micro fights where your enemies are surprised/suppressed and deal with them quickly. By that reasoning Dr. Q was my Stealth/melee/Dr 2/3 of the game because he could incapacite one dude and them possibly kill the other like no deal with his bare hands. With bare hands you also can hit the throat and that would choke the enemies and they wouldn't call backups.
