    My all time favourite episode,
having spent a few years living in the Irish republic at the beginning of this century I can say without a doubt that the Irish have an incredible sense of humour, a single off hand remark to a fellow worker would have me roaring with laughter, one of my favourites was (said about another worker) "He's a lazy bollox that one, if there was work in the bed he'd sleep on the floor"

The two writers of Father Ted saw Jim Norton in a small bit-part in an episode of Frasier, playing a snooty butler at a wine club that Frasier and Niles are vying with each other to get into. From that tiny role they knew he'd be perfect to play Bishop Brennan.

Die laughing? Somebody already did that watching a British sitcom. One of the show The Goodies biggest claims to fame was the episode Kung Fu Kapers which was a secret Lancastrian martial art using black puddings as a weapon. In the scene where Bill Oddie is fighting Tim Brooke Taylor (dressed as a bagpiper in kilt) a TV viewer at home literally died laughing. It is not apocryphal, it actually happened and is documented. The Goodies Kung Fu Kapers video is on TH-cam.

The Catholic guilt is BRILLIANTLY woven into and throughout this show. The Irish unable to shake their mentality of their gaelic pagan heritage and having to "correct" themselves! Bishop Brennan even shows this when he initially doesn't want to say a prayer but then remembers he's a bishop! And Ted saying "most forgiving of ALL gods and and having to pivot! It's so PERFECTLY done! and so accurate too! It's gold! And especially at the end when Bishop Brennan Ego is insult is literally stops giving a fuck pushing the pope over, and taking the gods name in vain in front of the pope and all the cardinals LMAO it's pure gold! There are examples of this in every episode!

Another brilliant series written by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews, that hasn't had many reactions is the sketch show Big Train, that helped to launch Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Mark Heap (Jim), Amelia Bullemore, Catherine Tate, Julia Davis and Kevin Eldon. There were only two series but they are extremely wacky! The World Stare-out Championships is inspired!

Amazing series although its like a lot of sketch some some are just exceptional andmothers you can take or leave, so many comedians came from that series.
Chris Morris's stuff around that time was similar

😂😂😂, one of the BEST episodes. I was still laughing my arse off same as when I first saw it. 💜💜💜. BTW, No, we only say arse in Ireland and two, we are allowed to take the lords name in vain, everyone does it all the time , it's mixed into just about every sentence we say😂. You two need to visit Ireland, the flights are cheap enough 👍

Lots of suggestion for what to consider next when Father Ted us finished, but my vote would be for Green Wing. Stars Mark Heap (Jim from Friday Night Dinner), who is incredible in this show. Literally made me cry with laughter almost every episode.
