This is my all-time favourite Father Ted episode. The bit at the end, when Dougal says "Those women were in the nip." Creases me up every time. Superb.

A friend of mine wrote to the TV company to ask for tickets to attend the recording of a Father Ted episode after I'd bigged it up; they sent him 6 tickets, so me and my ex-girlfriend along with a few others went along to the studio in London - we had no idea which episode we were going to see - and it turned out to be this one! So when you hear the audience laughing, I'm one of them!

I love how this show is still popular to this day, and even people outside Ireland and UK are loving it! Proof that Father Ted is one of the all time perfect sitcoms ever made!

It was a huge trope for 1970's sitcoms in the UK that milkman were at it with housewives all the time once the husbands had left for work.
Hence the expression "you two must have had the same milkman", expressing that two people look alike
And the bin men and window cleaners 😅
Our neighbour in the 1970’s had an affair with the milkman and my 8 year old sister caught them at it. 😂

The wonderful and late Patrick Laffan, who played "Pat Mustard" - one of the best characters in Father Ted. Brilliant stuff.
Father Ted has iconic names for characters, like Pat Mustard, Fargo Boyle, Hud Hastings, Father Bigley (who is always mentioned, but never seen) all these ridiculous but memorable names

As someone who suffers awful depression, i want to thank you both, watching you react to these shows is a real tonic, and usually lifts me out of a bad slump. Season 3 was the last, Dermot Morgan who plays FT, dropped down dead of a massive heart attack on the first day of filming for season 4.
Not quite. He died the day after finishing the third and final season.
It was always intended to end after 3 seasons as the writers felt they had run out of ideas.

Veterans gateway can help with trips away doing activities with like minded people who have experienced similar to yourself, as well as walking with the wounded, combat stress and RBL ect.

For this episode, the writers challenged themselves to write a worse sequel than Speed 2. They also said that they were running out of ideas, which is why they decided to make this the final series. Dermot Morgan also decided this would be his last series because he had other future plans, but for his tragic death the day after filming the last episode.
This whole episode came about when the writers were having a conversation about how bad 'Speed 2: Cruise Control' was, especially as the original movie was pretty fun.
They wondered out loud if Speed 2 could have been any worse and if there was a form of transport that was even less exciting and adrenaline-pumping than a cruise ship.
This episode was the result.

Did you know that the actor who plays Dougal, Ardal O'Hanlon, played a police detective in "Death in Paradise" and a superhero in the sitcom "My Hero"?
My eldest sister absolutely _idolised_ Father Dougal back in the ‘90s when Father Ted first aired. Around ‘98 or so she was in a pub in Edinburgh and who should wander in but Ardal O’Hanlon himself. She was so star-struck she blurted out “You’re my hero!” and he responded with his classic confused Dougal expression (intentionally, I might add) 😂 She said he was a really lovely guy and signed her toothbrush for her - what can I say, she was a student!
A couple of years later he was starring in ‘My Hero’ on the BBC so we all like to think her initial reaction was prophetic 😄
He also played a cat like species character in an episode of Doctor Who and appeared in season 2, episode 4 of Derry Girls.
I'm 41 and in the UK. I remember is having a milkman up until around 1994. I definitely remember hearing the electric milk float (mini truck) in the early hours of the morning as a kid.
I’m in the UK too (south-east Scotland) and we have one to this day! In fact I accidentally gave our milkman an absolute heart attack a couple of months ago - I was having a sneaky fag on my front step at 4-ish in the morning (it had been a late one lol) and he didn’t notice me till he was almost at the door, poor bloke absolutely shat himself. I’m not surprised; I wouldn’t want to suddenly encounter some random at that time of night/morning!
Honey is a natural antibiotic, and it works just fine as a sweetener in tea so much better for you!
When you said "I'd use a brick", I was waiting for the penny to drop lol.
I mean it was pretty obvious the brick was going to be used for something considering they included a bizarre backstory for them having a brick laying around the house.

This episode is basically a parody of the first _Speed_ film from 1994 with Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Daniels but instead of a bus it’s a milk van. 🐮😂

Actually it was Speed 2 that inspired the episode. They said they wanted to make an even worse sequel.

Once you are done with Father Ted, maybe you should look into “The IT Crowd” if you haven’t already. “The work outing” is one of the best, although seeing the first episode introduces the characters and should be a pre-watch even if you don’t react to it.
Speed 3 and The Work Outing are two of the greatest 30 min episodes of anything ever broadcast.
Been so looking forward to this one, without doubt my favourite episode. And also the best moment, where Dougal gets knocked out after turning up the volume of his earphones and the passing truck knocks him out...

I adore this episode, it has so many great lines in it. Dougal being completely oblivious as usual is just hilarious in that setting, "a bomb? Who's that for?" 😂😂😂

I've probably been watching too much It's Always Sunny but I thought Queen came across as a shady drug dealer in that get up. 😂😮
Where I work they currently have this motivational corporate video playing in the lobby and during one part they filmed a baby with this really high def camera to the extent where you can see really tiny hairs on its lip and my colleague saw it and said "that baby's got a tash!" and quick as a flash I said "If people aren't even going to shave their babies!" in my best Dougal impression.
Hadn't rewatched the show in years but it sticks with you and the oddest innocent phrase can trigger my memory 😂

Can just picture General Boomer and his southern Belle Queenie, wearing a hoop skirt, a corset, pantalettes, and a wide-brimmed straw hat or bonnet, Queenie will wear the same too, glad you got to watch this episode I've seen a few reaction channels that couldn't find this one
I was living in Kilfenora, Co Clare while this was being filmed in ‘97. I recall the milk float just going up and down the road all day and the boxes 😂 Btw Vaughan’s pub is in the same town. Featured a lot in Ted. Excellent memories!

The boxes in the road is a reference to every single action movie/show from the 70's. I think it was considered a stunt to drive through a stack of boxes. so they appeared in every car chase --- stacked up for no reason whatsoever.
Ah yea that's clever as they still use that for car stunts today

If you can find the British version of 'the IT Crowd', I'd highly recommend it - its another Graham Linehan show and it's absolutely iconic, it'd right up your street.
Just make sure it's the British version, lest the horrors of the American remake be unleashed again

The next episode of father Ted called 'the mainland' has a famous actor called Richard Wilson in it famous for being in a comedy called 'one foot in the grave' I advise you watch a few episodes of that before the one with him in father Ted as you won't understand otherwise
the guy who plays the milk man in this episode was also in a Irish movie called The Snapper and there another two that go with that movie one is The Van and the third movie is called The Commitments three great irish movies
He was a creep in that film as well. I know its a beloved Irish film, but lets face it, its about a creepy old man who took advantage of a drunk 19 year old, its pretty gross.

The priest smoking the pipe is Arthur Matthews, one half of the writing duo on father Ted. The other writer, Graham Linehan, was on the plane in Flight into Terror, and the voice who kept saying 'fuckin hell!' in Chris the Sheep episode.

Condoms were actually banned in Ireland for a long time I think up towards the 80s due to religion not anymore thank goodness I love when Pat says you wouldn't be advising the use of Condoms to a priest being Ted that's smart thinking 🤣

I'm from Dublin. I'm 38. We definitely had a milk man when I was a kid in the 90s. One of my friends, who is a little older was a stoner and he used to steal the milk from the porches at 5AM and drink it.

I drink Yorkshire tea, and I also sweeten it with honey. There's nothing odd about that. If I'm feeling posh, or have a bit of spare cash, I'll buy Twinings loose leaf tea and brew it in a pot. It's very easy. My favourite tea is unblended Darjeeling, which I would serve without milk - just a slice of lemon and enough honey to make it taste good.
